Anthropia Chapter 4
#9 of Anthropia Adventures
After a couple days, we finally arrive at the excessively massive academy and as Moon is shown to his dormitory, he is left with a philosophical question about his treatment to Jakra.
Well, it had been a long trip, but eventually, Jakra, Valo, and Moon successfully made it to the recall point, and Moon was rather disappointed with it. He expected something more extravagant, but what he got instead looked rather unimpressive.
The recall gate was little more than a stone stone platform, elevated 4 inches off the ground. It had strange symbols carved into its circular outline, but Moon had no idea what they were, yet as they approached, he could feel power resonating from them, like a dull throbbing, or a pulsing sensation.
"The recall gate responds to the touch of magic, you must simply display your power and it will transport you and anyone currently standing on it with you." Valo said as he moved to stand on the platform. Moon noticed that the platform was big enough to hold all three of them, given how small each of them were. But by his estimates, any giant beast folk would take up far too much room for anyone else to join.
Moon stepped onto the platform with Valo, and shortly after, Jakra stepped up as well. Moon watched as Valo gently raised his staff into the air with both arms, and after a few seconds of concentration, it began to resonate with a red, glowing aura.
"This is your first time, so I'll demonstrate." Valo said, "Mage Academy!" He called out, before slamming his staff down into the pillar and in an intense flash of light, the three vanished from the recall gate.
The next thing Moon was able to register, they were standing on another recall gate, except the scenery around them had changed drastically. In front of them was an enormous construct made of white and gold. The construct was so enormous, even royal palaces failed to rival it, clearly the mages were unfathomably wealthy. Looking back in the opposite direction, Moon saw that there was a strange walkway made out of transparent, yellow light.
In curiosity, he approached it and the light turned opaque, solidifying itself. He also noticed the walkway lead down into an abyss, no, it was more like clouds. As he felt a gentle breeze pass by, the clouds parted and he realized the academy was not on any simple mountain, it was on a floating island! The walkway lead from the sky, all the way down to the planet, a distance that looked like several miles from this high! He almost didn't notice when Valo approached behind him and began to explain.
"That's the Arcane Ladder." Valo explained, "Only those with the power of magic can use it, anyone else falls right through. Together, with the recall gates, our academy is invulnerable to assault by the common beast folk down below." He gloated, "Even if someone did use a mage to help them attack us, they could only transport a handful of troops at a time with the recall gates." He added before turning to Jakra, "It also ensures slaves like you don't make any stupid escape attempts while you're up here." He finished.
Jakra tried to touch the walk way to be certain, but as her paw reached it, it passed right through, just as she had been warned. Moon tried to touch it as well, and found it supported his weight. So it was true then, Jakra wouldn't be able to leave without Moon or some other mage escorting her.
"Rather glad we didn't have to walk all the way up here, I think I'd get dizzy." Moon said, turning and following Valo as they approached the 20 foot tall double doors to the academy. Moon could see that the white part of the design was apparently carved from pearl or marble, the Mages certainly enjoyed luxury.
As the gates opened, Moon was greeted to the sight of an enormous library of books lining the walls, and as he, Valo, and Jakra stepped inside, he was intimidated. Everything about the academy was specifically designed to be excessive, from the size of the academy, the amount of books in the library, the decorations. Moon felt like he was barely larger than a toy figurine in some life sized house, he wondered how anyone could possibly find their way around.
The library had statues carved out of marble which depicted various mages that had earned a reputation throughout the ages. Moon didn't recognize most of them, except for the statue standing in the center of what looked to be a lobby. It was a statue nearly all beast folk knew, for it was the most famous mage to ever live. Akloric, the wizard king, founder of the Mage academy and first ever Arch Magus.
As Moon and Jakra approached the statue, Valo slowly arrived behind them as he noticed them admiring it. The statue was 20 feet tall, depicting a bunny dressed in a flowing robe and holding his arms to the side, fingers clutched. Somehow, despite the fact it was only a statue, there were orbs of magical energy hovering above his palms, as if ready to perform a spell. Moon was unsurprised that the most powerful mage who ever lived was a bottom tier prey species, it was how the mages earned themselves a nice spot outside of the food chain. Likely, Alkoric didn't want to risk being enslaved or eaten, so he made a law against such things for magical folk, a law which to this date, nobody had been willing to revoke.
A plaque was stationed in front of the statue, as Jakra began to read it out loud.
"Here is the image of the wizard king, Alkoric, the first ever Savant, Arch Magus, and founder of the Mage Academy. His statue remains posed to deliver the finishing blow that slew The Consumer, devourer of 30 villages." She read, and as they looked back up, they noticed the robe wasn't actually flowing, it was billowing, as if caught up in a fierce wind, the statue's robes were carved to be blowing backwards and slightly to the side, a wide open mouth and squinting eyes showing the expression of a battle cry being sounded.
"He's just a bunny, yet no predator before or since has been able to rival him." Valo scoffed, "Lucky little-" He began, but the sound of a loud voice interrupted him, startling both Jakra and Moon in the process.
"Ah, Valo! Finally back with your student, I see." The voice said, all three of them turning to see who the new arrival was and discovering a falcon descending from the air, likely why they hadn't heard his talon steps.
"Oh, and what's this, he brought a slave?" The falcon asked, "My, my, I heard your new student was a noble, but I didn't expect they would be so bold." He said, sounding amused by the idea. "I am Magus Galner, a pleasure to meet you, young Moon." He introduced himself.
Moon returned with a slight bow and a response of "It is an honor to meet you as well, Magus Galner." , eliciting a polite tilt of the head from the bird. Moon began to take in the appearance of this other mage and noticed his outfit was considerably different from Moon's.
He stood at 3'5 in height, with a rather lean frame of possibly 70 lbs, and because of the wings on his back, he did not wear any sort of torso covering, instead going bare chested. He did, however, wear a hooded cowl over his head, and a set of lower robes that covered from his waist down to his talons in what looked like a dress. The upper part of his body, although shirtless, had an assortment of trinkets around the arms and wrists, bands made of painted stones and decorated with colorful feathers. His own natural feathers were a dusty brown, while those on his trinkets were pink, blue, and white. The cowl and robes were violet in color and adorned with gold trims.
"Yes, well you'd be surprised, Galner." Valo said, "This so called slave master believes in nobility by deed, rather than blood. He's quite compassionate towards the slave." Valo said in a mocking tone, causing Galner to tilt his head and open his beak in surprise as he stared at Valo.
After a few moments, however, he began chuckling to himself and finally let out a squawking laugh, placing a talong on his face and chest.
"Noble in deed? Oh boy, that's a rarity for carnivores, alright. You've got me jealous, you old fox!" Galner laughed, "I'm afraid my own apprentice doesn't feel the same-" He began to add, but just like Valo, he was suddenly cut off with a voice interrupted him.
"Master Galner! There you are!" exclaimed a young lion cub as he rushed to the scene, "This place is so big, I got lost." He said, skidding to a halt. "Please don't just fly away on me, its my first day, after all." He pleaded.
"This is my apprentice, Gelnon, I picked him up in the village of Ulgona, dear cub's family was planning to take over the nobility status before his powers awoke." Galner introduced, patting the boy on the head, "In fact, I set out to get him almost the same time as you, Valo." Galner added.
Moon looked over the new apprentice and noticed he was wearing a set of robes just like Galner, except his was the same brown as Moon's own robes, and instead of brightly colored feathers, they were a steel gray, and instead of painted stones, they were just black arm bands. Moon realized it was probably traditional that new apprentices be given a uniform similar to that of their masters, while the color scheme signified rank. Brown indicating apprentices, in this case. Yet that wouldn't explain why Valo and Galner wore different colored robes. Maybe they got the option to customize them later? Oh well, he would have that question answered in time.
The young lion was probably the same age as Moon, by the looks of it. He was still too young to have developed a mane yet, so he had the short fur look of a lioness for now. Like Moon, he was beginning to show signs of muscle tone, which due to wearing no upper clothing, it was easier to show off than Moon's full attire. He stood at 4'3 in height, his estimated weight being 100 lbs. When he turned and saw Moon looking at him, he squinted his eyes in curiosity and looked him over.
"Ah yes, well this is Moon, from the Solar Sword family. His kind have a long ancestry of magic, so its hardly surprising he would inherit the gift." Valo introduced, and at the mention of the Solar Swords, Gelnon perked up with a look that rapidly flashed from surprised, to curiosity, and finally settling on spite.
"Solar Sword? So you're a noble?" Gelnon asked in a tone that hinted his distaste, though Moon couldn't imagine why, "Well for your information, I'm going to become a noble myself once I get out of here!" He vowed, "My family had to postpone our plans, but I'll be even stronger when the time comes, so don't you dare treat me like a peasant!" Gelnon said, leaning in on Moon's face, causing the wolf to quirk a brow as he leaned away.
"From this day on, we're rivals!" Gelnon declared, pointing to the wolf, and with that, he turned and headed off into the library, Galner shrugged, a look of what passed for a smile on his beak before following after his young apprentice.
"What.... just happened?" Moon asked in confusion as Valo gave him a firm pat on the back, seeming to have cheered up a bit from his previously agitated mood. He looked down to Moon and spoke in a pleased tone.
"That was Galner, a friend of mine. Looks like his apprentice has a grudge against noble families. You've got yourself a rival." Valo confirmed, crossing his arms over his chest and smiling, "This is going to be amusing." he added before proceeding further into the academy and beckoning Moon to follow him.
"Come, I need to show you where your room is!" he ordered, Moon and Jakra following after him. Moon didn't want to get left behind in this massive place as he hurried to keep up.
The rooms were much closer than Moon had expected, or at least the apprentice rooms were, as Valo explained to him that the entry floor was for the new students. The dormatories for the more advanced mages lay further into the academy, as well as some of the more dangerous research materials. The library at the entrance was all "kids stuff" in comparison.
The apprentice rooms had only been a mere turn around the corner, yet from the looks of it, it resembled some kind of prison hall, although far more glamorous. The apprentice dorm rooms were stacked above each other like appartments, 4 levels high, by the looks of it, and what he guessed was 50 rooms long. That meant in total, there were 200 apprentice dormatories!
"Normally, each apprentice is assigned their own room for private study and education, but due to your slave, you will have a roommate, it seems." Valo explained as he approached a set of stairs and climbed it to the highest level of the dorms, Moon and Jakra following him. They then proceeded down the line until they came to the 25th room.
"This will be your dormatory, room 4-25, don't forget it." Valo said before pointing to the door, "Its specially enchanted so only its assigned occupant or their mentor can open it, so there is no need for a room key. It also means nobody can enter or leave without one of us assisting them." He explained, before opening the door and surprising Moon even further.
He had expected the dormatory to be cramped and cluttered, but it was the size of a two story house in comparison! He had a smaller library for reading, a table with writing material for notes, a place in the floor where he assumed it was for practicing, judging by the runic circle painted into the floor, along with a pedestal where a research book could be propped up. A full sized kitchen for storing and making food, a bedroom complete with a bed large enough for two, and a walk in closet. A full bathroom, complete with a tub that was large enough to fit a beast folk four times his size.
There were other smaller details too, like a large chest capable of holding various equipment and materials he would need, as well as a cage large enough to hold a beast folk in a standing position, but Moon couldn't tell what he would need it for, that is, until Valo spoke up.
"I arranged the cage for your slave to be locked in while you were otherwise too occupied to be with her. But after what I've seen, I assume you won't be using it much." Valo scoffed, "Regardless, this room is highly magical in nature, and I will not tolerate stupid slaves causing destruction by tampering with it." He warned before turning to Moon and leering at him, "Up until now, I've put up with how you treat your lessers in the outside world, but the academy is an entirely different matter. Keep your slave in line, or I will." He finished before turning to the door and beginning to leave.
"Your first lesson starts tomorrow, for now, I'll leave you to get situated." He finished, before opening the door and leaving Moon and Jakra to their privacy. Moon stared silently at the door for a few moments before turning his attention back to the room.
"I think I need a bath," Moon muttered, "2 days on the road worked up some dirt." He added before heading to the bath room and beginning to undo his robes.
As he took his shirt off, he caught a glimpse of Jakra just standing there in the entry way to the room, looking too scared to even so much as twitch, lest she disturb something. He realized she also hadn't had much chance to clean herself, and had a rather embaressing idea come to mind.
But then again, she was technically his slave, and like Valo said, nobody could enter here without one of their assistance. He sighed as he worked up the nerve and turned to her.
"Jakra," He said, causing the otter to quickly address him, "Would you... would you like to join me in the bath?" He offered, slowly gesturing to the tub with one arm.
"If it's alright with you, master." Jakra replied, to which Moon nodded. The otter then began to make her way over as Moon began to pull off his boots, while Jakra began to work on her upper clothing.
Moon quickly realized that she was nowhere near as hesitant about getting naked as he was, likely due to her upbringing, of course. By the time he was about to remove his pants, she was already down to just her loin cloth, the rest of her body exposed for him to see. He noticed her breasts had just started to come in, and as he shirked his pants to his knees, she unclasped the sides of her cloth and let it drop, now fully nude before him, the collar around her neck being the only exception.
Still not having hit puberty just yet, Moon wasn't as lustful for her as most males in his situation might be, but he could hardly deny that she was cute, and she realized he was just staring at her, pants still half way down, she smiled at him.
"Does my body please you, master?" She asked, sauntering up to him, "Here, allow me to assist you." She said, gently taking hold her his pants and finishing off as she dropped them to his ankles
"You are very pretty." Moon complimented, causing the otter's cheeks to flush as she looked down at the floor, but now that they were both naked and bare, Moon climbed into the tub and beckoned her to join him.
As they both climbed in, Moon took hold of the tap controls and turned them on, a quick jet of warm, comfortable water poured in from four different locations surrounding the tub, allowing it to fill up much quicker, and in only a couple minutes, the water was up to their bellies before he turned the taps off.
"Master, I noticed you haven't mounted me yet." Jakra said, causing Moon's eyes to widen in disbelief she had just said that, "Could it be because your hormones haven't set in yet, or do you prefer males?" She asked. Moon sunk lower in the tup, up to his muzzle, hardly knowing how to reply to something like that.
"I..." he stammered, "I'm just a pup! I'm not old enough for those sort of feelings!" He replied. Jakra seemed relieved at that response as she smiled at her master trying to maintain his composure.
"So it is because of your age." She said, "I was afraid you preferred your own sex." She said before she looked at the edge of the tub and found a sizeable bar of soap and bottles of shampoo and conditioner to keep her master in finely groomed condition.
"Allow me to clean you, master." She offered, taking the shampoo and squirting it into her paws, lathering it up as Moon slowly nodded and rose back up as she waded over to him, beginning to massage the shampoo into his head fur.
As she cleaned him, her words began to sink into his thoughts as he meditated on what she said. Was it true, was his hesitation merely the product of biology? Would he just use and abuse her like Valo when he got older? He certainly hoped not, the idea of becoming that cruel was frightening to him. He was pulled out of his thoughts when a large splash of water crashed down on his head, rinsing the shampoo out of his head fur, and Jakra began to apply conditioner now.
Puberty... it was only a couple years away, then he'd find out for sure if it was biology, or psychology that effected him this way.
