Back into the real world
A continuation to A New Way of Life
After the surgery Tiran finally returns to the real world but it looks like the world isn't very accepting of him.
Tiran opened his eyes and looked up at the white roof of his room, his ears twitched as he heard the sounds of machines running and people talking out in the hallway. He slowly slipped his legs over the side of his bed to look at the mirror that was next to his bed, it had become a habit of his to look into the mirror each morning just to proof to himself that this was his new reality. The eyes that reflected out at him were strange to him, where they used to be a light blue they now shown an almost golden brown.
Tiran's body still looked human in nature but had the build that of a wolf, according to the doctors the serum took the human body and gave it animal qualities but it kept the human physique. He stretched and stood up then walked over to his closet and looked inside to find his new clothes. The company had provided him with new clothes the previous day that had been fitted to his new form. He found that clothes weren't necessary now that he had fur but he wore them so that normal humans wouldn't take offense.
As pulled his shirt on Mr. Thonla strode in followed by Tiran's doctor, "Ah Tiran you're up that's good, I have some great news for you. According to your tests your DNA has finally finished changing and you can head home." At this news a giant smile crossed Tiran's face, "That's great news!" Tiran's doctor stepped forward and handed him a pen and clipboard, "This is your clearance papers just sign these and you can leave." Tiran hesitated; he had found that with his paws he had problems with writing. He hastily scribbled an approximation of his signature and handed back the clipboard, the doctor glanced at it then nodded at Mr. Thonla and walked out. Mr. Thonla smiled at Tiran and handed him a suitcase, "When you're ready the limo that you arrived in is waiting out front so you can leave." Tiran thanked him and started to pack up his clothes, as he started to close the closet he saw a brick on the floor. He frowned and picked it up, the day that he had woken up the brick had been thrown through his window. Thonla had the cleaning crew clean the glass up; as they were cleaning it for some reason Tiran had felt compelled to hide it away. He knelt down and picked it up and slipped the brick into his suitcase and took one more look around the room then walked out the door. Some of the employees smiled and him and waved to him as he walked out, he stopped for a moment outside and coughed a few times. With his new nose he could smell much more clearly then he could before, the air inside of the building had been sterilized but outside the air was permeated with car fumes.
Tiran saw the limo and quickly got into to escape from the fumes from outside and closed the door behind him, as he looked next to him he saw that the car was full of human animal hybrids just like him. They all smiled and waved at him, he found himself smiling and waving as well. The first time he had driven with them all they had all stayed rather quiet but now they all seemed much more talkative. The doctors had explained that this might happen; animals were much more sociable than humans were so the change might make them more open people. As they all talked they started to trade information so they could all keep in touch, as they reached Tiran's house he felt sad that he would have to leave all of his newly found friends. After a moment of sad goodbyes he left from the limo and watched as it drove away, after it disappeared around the corner he turned around and looked at his house. His parents were waiting for him on the front porch as he walked up the steps, "Hi Mom, Dad." His parents looked him over for a moment then walked up to him and they both hugged him, "Welcome home." He cheerfully hugged them back, "It's great to be back." His dad took his suitcase from him and the three of them walked into his house. After setting his stuff down his parents sat him down looking serious, "Tiran we were called a week back and were told that your company had to fire you." Tiran was shocked, "But they just gave me a raise a few days before I went in for the operation. Did they say why they fired me?" His parents grimly nodded, "The Company has apparently been receiving messages from multiple people saying that if you were to stay that they would take their business elsewhere." Tiran put his head in his hands, "Don't worry though, your father found you some work at a local restraint they don't care on whether or not you've received the surgery." Tiran smiled at his parents sadly, "Thanks Dad, I just can't believe they would fire me so easily." His parents frowned, "It's been happening a lot around, after your initial surgery more people started getting the surgery but they came back to find that they had no jobs because of people threating the companies." Tiran barked in anger, "I don't see why people are so disgusted by use, we're still people we just... changed a little bit." After talking for a while his parents left and he was left sitting at his table thinking things over when he received a call on his phone, "Hello?" A familiar voice answered, "Tiran is that you?" He tried to place the voice then realized who it was, "Marine is that you?" She answered softly, "Yes, I wanted to call you about where you'll be living." He was confused, "I'm living where I always have." She gasped softly, "You're still living there?!" Her voice had taken on a hint of fear to it, "What's wrong Marine?" She cleared her throat and started talking again, "I heard that people who have gone under the surgery and lived there were hunted down by religious freaks." Tiran froze, "When you say hunted down do you mean..." She softly answered, "Yes, they've been found dead in their houses." He was getting angry, "Why aren't they caught?!" She paused for a moment before answering, "I don't know, the police aren't divulging any information." A slight pause of her end, "Tiran do you have any pen or paper near you, I have the number for a new apartment complex that are allowing people like you in them." He quickly found some pen and paper and wrote down the address that she provided, "Thank you Marine." She started to say something but the line suddenly stopped and Tiran found himself hearing dead noise. Tiran thought about going to check up on her but he realized that he might get her in more trouble if he did. He grabbed his still packed suitcase from his bedroom and ran out of his house and jumped into his car, after driving for an hour he finally found the apartments. As he walked into the main office he saw an otter woman standing behind the counter, "Oh hello there, welcome to Aenma's Apartment's. What can I do for you?" She had a cheerful disposition, "Oh well a friend of mine said that this would be a good place to live since my old neighborhood had some problems." She smiled sadly, "I understand, why don't you just sign these papers and I'll have a room put together for you." She handed him some papers then went into a room behind her, after messily scribbling on the papers he finally finished. As he finished the woman walked back into the room, "All right your room is already." As he handed her the papers she started to process them, "So your name is Tiran? That's a very unique name, my name is Aenma." Tiran smiled, "Your name is Unique too." She laughed, "I guess it is." After processing his papers she told him the cost of the room and he quickly paid, "Now before I forget I have to tell you that since the apartments are currently being expanded you'll have to share your room with another tenant."
"That's fine." Tiran said, Aenma smiled and handed him his keys. "I hope you'll have a good night." He thanked her and walked out and looked for his room number and he finally reached it. He unlocked the door and walked in; as he walked in he saw that the room was rather immaculate. "Hello?" He called out, "Oh hello there." He heard a guy's voice and looked over and saw a lion walking towards him, "I'm guessing you were roomed with us?" Tiran nodded then paused, "Us?" He repeated, the lion smiled and nodded. "Yeah Aenma rooms more than just two people." A female dolphin came out of the bathroom not dressed and Tiran suddenly looked away embarrassed, "Oh do we have a new roommate Dinto?" The dolphin asked the lion, "Yeah Niala, though it looks like you've scarred him." She laughed, "I guess he's pretty new if he's embarrassed at seeing others naked." Tiran frowned, "I'm sorry but I'm not used to seeing everyone in the nude." They laughed, "We're sorry, but we just can't stand wearing clothes. Ever since we stopped being human they're just annoyances." Tiran coughed, "Well could you please put on clothes?" They both laughed, "Fine but only until you're over wearing clothes." After a few minutes they were dressed, "Better?" Tiran looked over and saw that they were now dressed, "Much." Dinto smiled, "Now I guess I'd better introduce myself, I'm Dinto as I'm sure you heard from my friend." The girl walked up finally dressed, "My name is Niala, sorry for scaring you so much." Tiran waved it away, "My name is Tiran." After the introductions were over the three walked out of the hallway of the apartment and Tiran was shown to his room, "This'll be your room, after you're done unpacking come on out and we'll get to know each other." Tiran walked into his new room and dropped his suitcase on his bed and unpacked it, after he was done he walked out and saw that the two were sitting at a table and were talking. "Oh Tiran you're done already?" Tiran smiled embarrassed, "I didn't bring much, the only stuff I have are my clothes." Both looked surprised at him, "So you don't have anything?" Tiran shook his head, "Well we can't let this stand, tomorrow we're going to go get you some stuff." Tiran started to disagree but Dinto wouldn't take no for an answer, "We're all Animos Sapiens we have to stick up for one another." Tiran was confused by the new word, "Animos Sapiens?" Dinto nodded, "That's what we've been classified as now seeing as we're not fully animals nor fully human." Niala smiled at Tiran, "Are you feeling alright Tiran?" He nodded, "That's good, a lot of the other new ones aren't taking to this change as well as you are." Before they could dwell on the topic any longer Dinto suddenly jumped up, "I know what we should do tomorrow; we should talk to Aenma and convince her to have a party so we can all meet each other." Tiran was confused by this sudden development and whispered to Niala, "Why did he suddenly bring this up?" She laughed, "Dinto comes up with spur of the moment ideas a lot, don't worry you'll get used to them." After a while of talking the three of them decided to head off to bed and they all wished each other good night, as Tiran climbed into his bed he wondered if he was happy with his new surroundings. After a moment of thinking he decided he was and turned over and slipped into sleep.
