Chapter 1

Miami, Florida: Joshua Strive's mansion.

"So, I hear you have a new pet, Josh", smiled Onyx.

"I do, why; are you jealous", barked the wolf.

"Oh no, I'm fine with it", meowed the winged panther. "But I'm curious to know who it is that's all."

Joshua grinned and clapped his paws twice. Baxley walked out of the kitchen shyly, leash dragging and bushy tail flicking. He wore a black skirt, black t- shirt, red collar with a black stripe in it and tags stating his name and owner. The black fox carried a tray with three glasses of wine and a bowl of cookies that he and the vixen maid had prepared.

"B-Baxley", gasped Onyx. "You're Joshua's new pet?"

"I'm the only half demon fox related to a winged black panther with that name", smiled Baxley, walking over and serving the wine and cookies.

Joshua grabbed the fox's leash and pulled him closer. Baxley went over and sat on the wolf's lap. He kissed the wolf's cheek and looked at Onyx who was grinning widely. Baxley's ear twitched and he levitated a cookie over to the panther's muzzle. Onyx took it and nibbled on it, still grinning and looking at the fox.

"So, why am I here", asked Onyx. "I mean you didn't just invite me here to talk; so what do you want Joshie?"

Joshua smirked and stroked Baxley's back. "Well, I think my pet can answer this for you because he's the one that wanted you here."

Onyx looked at Baxley expectantly. "Well, foxy, what is it."

"Okay, I've always wanted to give you something since we first met, but couldn't decide on either a new dagger or car", barked Baxley.

"So, he got you a dagger case full of daggers and a Ducati monster 696 motorcycle", smiled Joshua with a giggle. "Oh, sorry, Bax, I couldn't help it; you were going to slow."

"I thought you liked it when I went slowly", growled the fox playfully.

The wolf chuckled. "Only then you can go slowly."

Baxley nodded and blushed, glancing at Onyx which from the look on his face knew what they were talking about. The fox took a sip of his wine and a cookie from the bowl. The phone rang in the kitchen. "Could you go answer that, kit", barked Joshua, patting Baxley's butt softly.

"I sure can, sir", grinned Baxley, flicking his master's cheek with his tail.

"So, how is it having my younger brother as a pet", the fox heard Onyx say as he left.

Baxley twirled his leash absentmindedly and located the ringing phone. He found it and answered it. "Hey, Bax, I have some important news to tell you and any other thief near your position... shit, okay here it is, mercenaries", growled the voice on the other line. "Mercs have been hired to kill or capture all thieves in the world."

"Wait a second; who is this", asked the fox, looking out the window into the night.

"Machine, the gray wolf you met about two months ago; listen, you need to get somewhere sa..", the line went dead before the wolf could finish.

"Hello, Machine, hello; damnit", growled Baxley looking out the window in thought. He saw a flash of light go by and thought nothing of it. The fox hung up the phone and leaned on the counter. Baxley didn't like how this was looking, with the call telling him and all thieves to hide or be wary of mercenaries and the random flash of light outside. Finally, the fox just decided to go back into the living room and tell his master and his brother.

Baxley started walking out of the kitchen and down the hall when a body- armored tiger came out one of the guest bedroom carrying a futuristic battle rifle and had an energy saber at his hip.

"What the hell", hissed the fox quietly, stepping behind a wall and peering around the corner.

"Command says we got four heat signatures in the building", mewed the tiger.

"And we have six men, with weapons", barked a husky, stepping up next to the tiger. "We also have the element of surprise, sir."

"True", meowed the tiger, looking around almost catching sight of Baxley who ducked behind the wall. "Let's move out team."

Four other armored soldiers came out of the room, some with battle rifles of the same design as the tiger and others with just the energy saber and a pistol. Baxley watched them as they slowly headed down the hall towards the living room. The fox didn't have time to change so he rounded a corner, running to Maria's room knowing the vixen would be getting ready to go to bed. Her room was next to the guest room he used to sleep in where he had his backpack.

Baxley ran around corners to the maid's door and cracking it open to see if she was awake; she was and dressed, in her bed reading.

"Hey, um I would advise you to find a place to secretly get out of the house", smiled Baxley. "There are six mercenaries in the house and they're looking for us."

"Baxley, you honestly don't think I'm that gullible to fall for a prank like that; your ear is twitching", smiled the vixen.

"W-What, no I'm serious", barked Baxley. "Hold on a sec."

The black fox closed the door and looked down the hall to his right. Three mercenaries were coming down the hall. "Shit", barked the fox.

"There's one, take her down", ordered one of them, an otter.

"Her", barked Baxley in confusion before he looked down at himself. "Oh, the skirt; well this her isn't going without a fight."

Baxley busted open his door to his old guest room, grabbing his backpack and a dagger. He turned around and bumped right into the otter, slashing at him. The otter sidestepped the fox and elbowed him in the side. Baxley's tail flicked and he looked sideways hearing a gun cock. A ferret soldier had a pistol aimed at him while the man next to him was guarding the door.

"You can come quietly or die here, bitch", hissed the otter, pointing his saber at Baxley.

"Well, since I plan on not dying or coming quietly I guess we have a problem, slut", Baxley chuckled.

The otter lunged at Baxley, blade raised high over his head. The fox dodged the swing from the saber and roundhouse kicked the otter in the shoulder. The ferret took a step forward. "You get involved in this and you will die like you friend will soon", growled Baxley, glaring at the ferret.

"Fuck you", yelled the otter, coming at Baxley again, saber swinging.

Baxley ducked and blocked the swings and punched the otter in the nose, disorienting him. The fox didn't stop there; he sliced the otter's cheek and kicked him against a wall. Baxley then pinned the otter with his elbow, grabbing the otter's saber paw, and kneeing him three times. He glanced at the ferret who was getting furious and Baxley knew this as the ferret kept fidgeting with his pistol.

Baxley slammed the otter's paw repeatedly against the wall until he dropped the saber. He levitated it and flung it at the ferret who ducked, making it kill the soldier behind him, a Dalmatian. The ferret cursed and raised his gun, firing. Baxley twisted his body, using the otter as a shield. He shoved the otter towards the ferret as a distraction, dropped his backpack and rushed up, tackling them and wrestling to get the gun out of the ferret's paws.

The fox stabbed the ferret in the stomach and head-butted him, before punching the ferret in the stomach. Baxley twisted the pistol, trying to get it to face the ferret or to eject the cartridge. He smiled as he pressed down on the button and turned the gun so the cartridge slid out.

"Ha", barked Baxley, bringing his dagger up and attempting to stab ferret again.

"Damnit", cursed the ferret, reaching for the saber that killed the Dalmatian.

Baxley jabbed the dagger into the ferret's chest, growling softly as his enemy slowly died and took his last breath. The fox sighed and rolled off of the man. He heard a grunt and another sighing breath, this time from the otter as he died. Baxley stood up, grabbing his bag and knocked on Maria's door. No one answered so he peeked in and saw that she was gone.

Baxley smirked. "And she thought I was joking."

The black fox jogged down the hall and slowed as he got the living room, hearing silent commands from ahead.

"Okay we got two of 'em in there", whispered the tiger. "This should be easy."

"Sergeant Ryas, I can't get a hold of the other half of the squad", reported the husky.

"Probably jammed; don't worry they'll be alright."

The husky nodded and Ryas, the tiger, signaled them to spread out. Baxley smiled and watched them circle around the living room as he twirled his dagger. He slowly followed behind the tiger and growled slightly as the tiger peeked around the wall. The fox was glad he was wearing black tonight so he practically invisible. Baxley could see Joshua and Onyx sitting on the couch and got an idea. He closed his eyes and levitated the cookie bowl off of the table and in his direction, making Josh's eyes follow it. Sergeant Ryas was confused and stared at the cookie bowl coming at him and around him to the fox.

"What the fuck", growled the tiger. "Who the hell are you?"

"I should be asking you the same thing", hissed Baxley, tackling the mercenary.

"Baxley, who the fuck is that", growled Onyx, unsheathing his daggers and standing up.

"Now", ordered the husky, coming around the corner, gun raised and aimed at the panther. "Get on the ground and you won't get hurt, much."

Onyx smirked and winked at Joshua who was calmly sitting and sipped at his wine. "Only two of you?"

"I'm in here, kitty", said a leopard pointing his saber to the ground and glaring at Joshua.

"Oh good, a fair fight and more fun for me", growled the wolf, standing up and setting his wine down.

Baxley and Ryas separated, both breathing hard from their scuffle. "Hey....master...sorry it took me....so long...to get here I had three others to take care of", grinned the fox.

"You bitch", growled the husky. "I'll kill you!"

"Hey, I'm the only one allowed to call my fox a bitch", barked Joshua. "And all you should be worried about is his brother clawing your eyes out."

Onyx took the hint and lashed out at the husky with his daggers. The leopard came at Joshua with his saber swinging. The wolf dodged and swatted away the swings from the leopard. Baxley and Ryas were back at it when the tiger drew his combat knife and swung at the fox. The fox dodged the tiger's strikes and kicked him in the chest, before throwing the cookie bowl at him.

Joshua disarmed the leopard and punched him in the eye. The wolf kicked the leopard's knee and popped him over the head, before round housing him and sending the feline to the floor. Onyx kept up the attack on the husky who had thrown away his gun and was using his bare paws. The panther slashed the husky's cheek and shoulder with his daggers and kicked him into the wall.

Ryas threw Baxley across the room into another wall and followed up with a kicked to the gut. The tiger roared before fiercely clawing and kicking at the fox. Baxley covered up and yelped at the kicks he received, eyes starting to glow red as he growled. Ryas stopped and stood there in triumph as he looked down upon the beaten fox.

Baxley growled louder, starting to get up off the floor, nose bloody, coughing blood and glaring at the tiger. He roared and grabbed Ryas, kneeing him, tripping him, catching him before he fell and punched the tiger in the gut, sending him to the floor, causing him to hit his head and black out. Baxley turned around and levitated the pistol from the tiger's unconscious body and checked the ammo cartridge. "Full", smirked the fox, putting it in his bag.

Onyx growled and stabbed the husky in the stomach, before pushing him through the wall. "Argh, fuck", barked the husky, as he grabbed the panther's arm and head-butted him.

Baxley ran back down to the guest rooms and walked into the master bedroom where he and Joshua slept. He went to the dresser and opened all of the drawers, taking out another bag and packed some of his clothes and Joshua's clothes. Baxley heard footsteps from outside the room and looked up. "Hey foxy", smiled a hyena, with two submachine guns in his paws.

"May I help you", barked Baxley, giving the canine an expressionless face.

"With you in that skirt you're already helping me with one thing", growled the hyena, looking over the fox and licking his lips.

Baxley blushed and spun for the hyena, pulling a dagger out from his right sock and throwing it at the doorframe. The hyena grinned, showing sharp canine teeth. The fox finished packing and walked over to hyena.

"So, what can I help you with", growled Baxley, playfully. "Is this service important?"

"Actually, foxy", growled the hyena, grabbing Baxley's leash and pulling him close. "It is and you're going to help me with it."

"Um, excuse me, but that fox does not belong to you", yowled a voice down the hall.

Baxley and the hyena turned their heads looking for the owner of the voice. They found it and he didn't look happy. Joshua was bleeding from a cut on his shoulder and gripping a saber in his right paw. Onyx was next to him gripping his daggers and flicking his tail from side-to-side.

"Aw, but master can't I have fun with him", barked Baxley. "Please."

The wolf sighed and smiled. "Fine, have your fun, kit."

The hyena chuckled and pulled on the leash, leading the fox back into the bedroom. Baxley giggled, winking at his brother, dropping his bags and sliding a dagger from out of his left sock. He closed the door behind him and leaned against it. The hyena turned to the fox and smiled.

"So, we can do this the hard way or the easy way, foxy", barked the hyena. "You can drop the dagger and come with me or you can die a very slow and painful death."

"Or, you can drop your guns, I'll drop my dagger and we can walk out of here unharmed and go about our business, so I don't have to kill someone else tonight", grinned Baxley.

"I still have a hold of your leash, kit", growled the hyena, tugging softly.

"That doesn't mean shit if you can't kill me", growled the fox.

"Who says I want to kill just you", smiled the hyena, dropping his guns and pulling out a frag grenade.

Baxley chuckled and walked forward only arm's length away from the hyena. "Now things are getting interesting."

The hyena laughed as he watched the fox closely getting within spitting distance of him. Baxley circled around the hyena, stopping once he was face-to-face with him and kissed him. The fox felt the hyena wrap an arm around him and smiled. Baxley rubbed the hyena's stomach, feeling the canine loosen his grip on the leash. "Master", called the fox, twisting around the hyena and using his leash to choke him.

Joshua came bursting through the door with his saber and stabbed the hyena. "Like I said; that fox is mine and will take care of him", he growled.

The hyena looked down at the saber in his gut and smiled. "Well, so much for letting us all live", he chuckled pulling the pin on the grenade.

Baxley and Joshua looked at each other and then made a break for the door. Baxley's leash stopped him only inches away from escape as the hyena still gripped it. "We're dying together, kit", he barked.

"Um, I think not so fuck you and this leash", growled the fox, slicing through the leash and tumbling through the door as the grenade went off. Debris flew through the doorway as Baxley covered his head.

"Damn suicidal maniacs", groaned the fox as he stood up.

"Hey, Bax, we gotta get out of here; a chopper's coming", called Onyx. "Joshua's in the front with the car with our stuff packed in the trunk."

Baxley nodded and followed his brother to the front of the house. They ran out to the drive-way and got in the backseat of the hummer. Maria was in the passenger seat next to Joshua who was in the driver's seat.

"Y'all ready to go", asked the wolf.

"Yes", they all said in unison as a missile came firing down hitting the mansion dead in the center.

"Those motherfuckers; my house", growled the wolf. "Fuck it."

The hummer kicked to life and Joshua pulled out onto the highway and headed somewhere where there weren't mercenaries....maybe.
