Descent Ch 1: Impressions
First official chapter of Descent and we get to meet some new characters :3 Those of whom are my close friends might recognize those i have described in this chapter, so keep your eyes focused and be on the look out hehe.
"Good morning sleepyhead."
I felt a soft, tender kiss on my cheek followed by a reassuring brush of a big tail along my own. I smiled and slowly began to open my eyes before the sunlight caused me to squint them. I heard a giggle which only caused me to smile more.
"You gonna be able to get up this morning hun or do I get to tickle you awake hehe."
The thought of being tickle attacked sunk into my mind. The endless torture, not being able to fight back, the forced laughter, and seeing her devious grin all the while she committed the attack. It was enough to cause me to spring awake as my eyes shot open and caught the light of the sun directly in them. I groaned from the flash of light and shielded my eyes with my paw, turning myself to face down into the pillow.
She giggled once more and that's when I felt it; her paw moving along my side and he claws combing through my fur. I knew it was coming but part of me didn't want to fight the softness of the pillow upon my face, so I reached down and grasped her paw, moving it up alongside me before turning my head to nuzzle into it.
"You always have such delicate soft hands my dear... it's always so comforting to embrace them."
I opened my eyes, taking care to do so slowly this time so as to not be blinded by the vibrant rays of the sun. As they adjusted, I took note of the form before me; a petite young woman with a warm smile on her muzzle. Her features fascinated me every time I cast my gaze upon her. Her belly fur was pure white as snow which ran down to her legs and up her chest to her neck, but on her back from her thighs to her shoulders, it was solid black; it reminded me of a husky's fur coloring but it wasn't as defined.
I raised my gaze to meet her own, taking in her facial features as she continued to smile at me. The black fur from her back extended up along her head on the sides, blending her cheeks in both colors as the pattern stretched onto her muzzle on each side like two daggers. The white from her chest was up to her neck and coated the remainder of her muzzle but extended a line up the bridge of her nose to between her eyes and then she had two little white spots above her eyes that seem to fit perfectly. What fascinated me the most about her was two unusual spots on her and a certain addition upon her head. Her nose and the tip of her extremely fluffy tail, they were bright blue and on her head she had something that bewildered me even to this day; antlers.
She tilted her head and moved her paw to tap my nose which stirred me from my thoughts. "You going to say good morning to me silly or are you going to stare blankly at me like a boy with raging hormones?"
I shook my head and smiled back at her. "Good morning my dear puppy, did you sleep well after last night?"
Her ears perked up at the reminder of last night's activities, causing her to curl her tail around and hide her face. I knew from that, that she remembered it all too well. Yesterday was our one year anniversary being together and we decided to celebrate it with a nice dinner and a little playfulness to end the night on a warm note. I snickered and reached forward, moving her tail down quickly, causing her to squeak and try to hide her blushing face beneath her paws.
"Aww, did I make the puppy blush?"
She moved her paws from her face and pushed me playfully. "You know I get all fidgety about stuff like that you butthead."
"Myes this is true, but..." I placed my paw on her side, gently stroking her body through the fabric of the sheets. "I know you like it hehe."
Again she pushed me but this time, she hit my chest and I felt a sharp pain pulse throughout me. I winced and clutched my side and gasped, looking at her with a confused look.
"W-Why did you hurt me...?"
She shifted herself to sit up then suddenly shoved me again, causing another massive jolt of pain to hit me. "Get up Ein, now." I tried to protest but she only hit me once more, bringing tears to my eyes as the pain only escalated. "Get up! Now Ein!" Again and again she kept hitting me, each impact of her paws on my growing more painful. I gasped for air and tried to roll away but suddenly found myself falling over the side of the bed.
I cried out and screamed in terror as I opened my eyes, seeing nothing but pure darkness. I thrashed about, kicking and swatting my tail around as I tried desperately to grab something to break my fall. I kept hearing her voice screaming, echoing all around me, feeling like it was ringing in my ears.
"Ein! Come on man, get up!"
Wait... it wasn't her voice anymore, but it sounded familiar, it sounded... gentle. My eyes shot open and once again it was dark but I could see rays of sunlight through what looked like barred windows lining the walls. I laid there motionless, panting heavily from the anxiety hitting me while taking in my surroundings as I began to scan the room I was in. Nothing but brickwork and windows but I saw bars around me... was I in prison for some reason?
Suddenly I felt a paw rest on my side and I jerked my head to look behind me. I saw a young looking fox reaching out and holding pressure on me. When his gaze caught mine, he smiled.
"Oh good, you can open your eyes now. I was beginning to think you had gone blind from anything that happened out in the N-zone."
I craned my neck more to try and get a better look at him, but it was too dim lit to be able to see much except his face and the flicker of his tail in and out of the light. I gave him a confused look which he must have caught on because he nodded then shifted himself to sit more comfortably. He reached up with his free paw and removed a scarf he was wearing then offered it to me.
"Here, place this on your wound and hold it there. You lost a lot of blood already from that hole in your side so the best we can do is try to slow it down until we can get you some real help."
I nodded and took the scarf from his grasp, rolling it over my paw then moving it to hold my side where I felt the pain. It didn't seem as unbearable now that I had a hold on it which was a relief; last thing I needed was to feel like a thousand knives were piercing my side at once. I tried to adjust myself to be able to look at him without straining my neck but when I tried to move, all I felt was pain again to my displeasure.
The young fox raised his paw up to signal me to stop, which I did so obediently. "Best to just stick to where ya are man, that wound is pretty deep and I don't know the extent of internal damages done to you."
For the first time, since coming into this unknown place, I actually took a glance down out at my supposed wound. As I lifted the scarf the fox had given me to place on it, I saw a massive stain of blood on my jacket and shirt lying beneath. I tried to turn myself to get a better angle on it and as I did, all I could see was more blood pooling in a gash in my side. The sight made me gasp and fold my ears back.
"Yea, it's quite deep; I'm still not sure how you got it but when I found you, all I could see was a pool next to you."
I looked back up at the fox then back down at my side. What exactly happened to me that caused this though...? There were still so many questions swirling around in my mind like a storm ready to explode outwards, but I decided on one of the simplest ones just to make the atmosphere a little less unfamiliar. I tried to mouth the words out but it was still difficult to speak with this pain I my side, but more so because I couldn't remember that last time I had anything to drink.
I had a feeling he had many questions of his own and knew I had some as well, but his attention seemed to be focused elsewhere; another source of light on the other side of the room. I couldn't understand why at first but then my ears picked up the sound of metal clanging and before I knew what it was, the light moved and grew larger as a door was opened. Slowly a figure emerged from the light and a small click was heard, suddenly turning all the lights in the prison on.
"Well well, it looks like our little guest survived through the night. I bet you're thirsty, judging by the weak expression on your face."
I couldn't help but nod at his observation for it was the truth, I couldn't form words my mouth was so parched. The big canine stepped forward and unlocked the door to my cell, then turned and ushered for a guard to enter the room with a tray. As he neared my cell, my sense of smell burst with all new scents... all of them smelling like food.
"Here you are sir, would you like me to set it in his cell?" The guard asked the much larger looking canine, whom only nodded in response. The guard turned and walked towards me, kneeling in front of me with the tray and its contents sitting upon it. I never felt so happy to see a sandwich in my life, but what caught my attention more was the large bottle of water next to it. I wanted to jump at it with every fiber of my being but I was in no condition to do so and they knew it.
The guard pivoted on his feet and grasped the bottle of water, opening it, then holding it in front of me. "Here, take a few sips to try and regain your composure; we have some questions to ask you but we'll take you to see a medic first."
I glanced up at him then back at the bottle of water, questioning mentally whether they were just wanting me to drink it to poison me or if they were honestly helping. I did the only thing I could think of, I turned to look at the young fox, whom only nodded at me. If he says it ok then it has to be alright, I don't think he would turn against me now.
"You going to take a drink or not? I'm not going to sit here all day."
I snapped out of my thoughts and turned back to the guard. I nodded and leaned forward, taking a few big gulps of water, the ice cold feeling more refreshing than I could describe. After a few moments he sat the bottle down then grabbed the knife off the tray and cut the sandwich in half, holding a piece in front of me. Without hesitation I took a bite out if it and savored the flavor; wheat with swiss and turkey, these people have good taste I'll admit.
"Well now that you have gotten some nourishment into your system, I expect you will be more willing to cooperate." The bigger canine spoke in his harsh accent which seemed to silence anyone in the room. "Guard, give the rest to our subordinate; he may have spoken against me out of line, but I still value my men and I won't lose one to negligence despite his poor decision to remain in here."
The guard nodded and rose to his feet, taking the tray with him. He padded over to the young fox's cell and opened it before entering and setting the tray down at his feet. I saw the fox's tail flicker, as if he was planning something, but I guess it was my natural feeling with foxes, they always seemed to be up to mischief. As the guard turned to leave the cell, I saw the fox look at me and smile.... What was he up to?
Suddenly a shadow caught my attention and as I turned to look for the source, I saw the big canine leaning over me then lifting me into his arms. "Alright, I will take you to our medic but afterwards, I expect you to be fully cooperative got it?"
I simply nodded at the question, the tone in his voice was intimidating enough but being held in his bulky figure meant that if I were to say no, he'd break me in half. With one last glimpse, I looked over the side of the canine's arms at the young fox. He continued to smile at me, then raised his paw to salute. What was that meant for; I simply do not know but again I just nodded in response.
After a few moments, I found myself in a solid white room, lined with cabinets and a table in the middle. The room was laid out like a doctor's office, but was more spacious, to accommodate more than one patient I assume. The big canine rested me on the table and turned to speak to someone behind him.
"This is the one we captured last night, I need you to patch him up so we can interrogate him."
"What's happened to him sir?"
A new voice, this one sounded calm but had seemed to be hiding probably a more adventurous side. When I saw the source of said voice walk around to the side of the table, I could tell just by his facial expression that I wasn't far off in my guess. He had a smile that showed me confidence, in what I assume to be his profession, but it also shows a bit of a rambunctious attitude.
"He has a massive gash in his side and has been losing blood ever since."
The medic turned to the commanding one with a look of both anger and disgust. "Why the hell wasn't he brought to be sooner if he had such a deep wound? Where was he kept all this time?"
The larger guy raised his paw to scratch the top of his head and glanced to the side before he spoke. "Down in the holding cells-"
"WHAT?! You brought a guy here with a deep, bleeding gash in his side and you put him down in that infectious shithole?! The hell is wrong with you sir?!"
"Hey! He was brought here by the rookie recruit and how else was I supposed to treat the situation? He's one of the other siders, look at his fur pattern."
The medic squeezed his fingers to his forehead and groaned in frustration. "Helloooo? How can you possibly interrogate a guy if he's DEAD FROM INFECTION?!" He shifted and stepped towards the other guy, shooing him out with his paws. "Alright fine! Get out so I can work in peace and speak to him on my own!"
"Well, I feel I should stand watch to make sure he doesn't..."
"Doesn't what? Suddenly be granted magical healing powers and run out of the room without a scratch...? Honestly, I think you are a bit too paranoid; go get some coffee ya stuffy coot, it's still early."
The canine nodded and turned without hesitation, raising his paw up to signal he was ok with everything. After he had left, the medic walked over towards a row of cabinets on the wall, skillfully using his tail to shut the door to the room as he passed by it. After a few minutes of him rummaging through some of the drawers and gathering materials, he turned to look at me with a smile.
"Alright then, shall we get started?"
I nodded and laid my head back on the cushion on the table that he provided. I started to close my eyes until I suddenly felt something touching my arm. I turned and saw the tip of his tail padding my arm. I turned my gaze to look at him directly where I saw him shake his head gently.
"Ah, ah, can't have you sleeping while I address your wounds. I need to ask you some questions myself about your medical history so I don't give you something that might kill you, alright?"
I nodded and started to open my mouth before he raised his paw.
"Hold yourself for the moment, I need to change out of these stuffy clothes." He looked at me and chuckled, setting his clipboard down and extending his arms to take off his white coat, revealing his bare furred chest.
It was then that I started to take in the full features of his appearance. He had a sleek build, slightly smaller than average but had some muscle tone to it, but I immediately turned my attention to his facial features as I put him together with his new exposure. He had more of a smaller muzzle and had thinner teeth which I saw whenever he spoke. He wasn't canine and to be entirely certain, I glanced at his tail once more and saw the thin yet flexible appendage curling around him; he was a feline of some sort, but a species I didn't fully recognize.
"Like what you see bud?" I heard him snicker after the question.
My eyes widened and I looked back up at him to see him smiling. As if he was putting on a show, he turned in place, allowing me to get a full view front and back of him. He was indeed feline, but his ears seemed off, they were rounded on the tops and his coloring was simple yet perplexing. A mixture of black and white adorning him all over with spots and stripes covering his sides, arms and back. The only main thing that was genuinely more strange was the large pair of dragon like horns that protruded from the top of his head that seemed to be dipped in some chemical because of the unnatural coloring.
"Well now that I've given you a show as to what I am, I suppose we should get introductions underway bro." He turned and glimpsed at his clipboard, lifting a page and adjusting his glasses then turning back to me. "Well then, I see your name is Ein, quite an unusual spelling but I like it, it's different." He walked around and moved to the counters where he turned on a faucet to wash his paws and dry them; afterwards coming back and chuckling.
"Well my name is a bit hard to pronounce since my origin isn't from this area, as I assume you have gathered by now."
I tilted my head and sat up slightly, giving him a curious look and summoning some strength to speak the simple question in my mind.
"What shall I.. call you then...?"
He chuckled and placed his paw on my shoulder, resting me onto my back then adjusting the cushion under my head to elevate it.
"Well, I doubt you wanna call me 'Medic' all the time, so I'll give ya the name that everyone else nicknamed me around here."
I raised my brow curiously and gave him a puzzled look. "And that would be...?"
"My friends here call me Duke, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the magic as I repair ya to tip top shape."
