Story by KarathKasun on SoFurry

Written as a "slice of life" I suppose.

I may post more as I write it. I have lots more to post, as the original idea was to write it as a book.

This is mostly just the intro which gets into the main plot device.

As the story goes on Its a sort of rotating first person viewpoint for a bit, giving a glimpse into the individual initial responses of the main characters to the initial "disaster". After that it was planed to go into a more action oriented arc.

Thinking of re-writing to just make it "journal format". Need opinions, critique, feedback in general.

Oh, works best in fixed width due to the crazy formatting from the software I was using.

Breaking news,

Research at the Large Hadron Collider has uncovered evidence of extra dimensional particles responsible for the effects of gravity. These, as of yet, unnamed particles seem to be responsible for many holes in the theory of general relativity. Scientists at the LHC complex expect to further explore the properties of these particles in further tests on Monday.

Dr. Kalinov "Ok Jim, bring the containment field up to operational levels."

James "Yes sir..."

*he flips some switches and initiates a program on the mainframe terminal.*

James "The field is approaching minimum operational strength"

Dr. Kalinov "All readings need to be double checked, I don't want any chance of an accident."

James "Yes sir, All monitoring equipment is in the green. The field has stabilized."

Dr. Kalinov "Ok, today we make scientific history. Engage the anti-proton beam"

*red warning lights go on after a moment*

computerized announcement "Warning, the colider is powering up. You have sixty seconds to clear the operational areas"

James "All personnel are accounted for, activating the anti-proton beam in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1..."

Robby is a sysadmin at a local business on his way home from work on his motorcycle. He is listening to a local radio station on his headphones when the music is interrupted with an emergency alert...

"This is the national emergency alert system. An accident at the LHC has caused atmospheric disturbances over most of Europe that are spreading rapidly. Lightning and communication blackouts may occur. Information is showing that this should only be temporary, but we are recommending that everyone remain indoors. Precautions should be taken as if you are in an electrical storm."

Robby "What in the hell? There's no way anything that could cause something like that could be minor"

As he says this to himself he can see the electrical discharges in the atmosphere at the horizon.

Robby "Shit, it would probably be best to find cover. That will be here soon by the looks of it"

He pulls his bike into an auto shop right off the road.

Store manager "Hey! You cant just park in here!"

Robby pulls off his helmet and tells the manager hurriedly "Check the TV, there's an electrical storm coming in. You and all your clients need to get inside now!"

Seeing as it is mid-day on a workday there are quite a few people about. Robby decides he needs to at least try and help some of the oblivious people meandering about the shopping-center parking lot.

He runs outside to the nearest group telling them of the warning, imploring them to head to safety in one of the nearby businesses. "Hey! You need to get to cover!" he points in the direction of the visible atmospheric disturbance. "Right now!"

The group sees what he is pointing at and scramble to the nearest building. Another group sees the commotion and looks as well. soon the whole parking lot is stampeding to the mall and its surrounding stores. Robby sees this and, for once, is thankful for herd mentality.

But being thankful, he fails to notice how fast the coming storm is moving. In the few minutes since he saw it on the horizon it is almost on top of the small town. He turns around, hearing something like a continuous growl, and is greeted with what looks like a wall of lightning rapidly moving towards him.

Chapter 1 "Robin"

"Oh shit"

Famous last words, right?

That's about what ran through my mind as I sprinted back to the building. But I wasn't fast enough. The last thing I remember is the sound of continuous thunder and a bright light approaching me from behind as I ran, and a shock. After that... nothing.

After the long darkness of unconsciousness I vaguely remember a doctor asking me who I was, and where I came from. Which brings us to now...

The doctor... Wait, that doesn't look like a doctor. There's an officer there now. Officer of what, I don't know. He is looking at me sternly, one hand on his holstered sidearm. He has a badge that I don't recognize.

"Who are you, what have you come to earth for?!?!"

I blink away the grogginess and try to rub my eyes, but I find myself restrained to the gurney I'm on. "Come to Earth for?" I reply, dumbfounded. "What's your problem? I was born here, just like you..." It is only now that I notice some things are very out of place. I can see a muzzle as if it were my own. I try wiggling my nose and discover that it is mine.

The officers condescending reply was "Born here??? That's not likely. What is your purpose for being here! Maybe you want our resources, maybe our people as slaves?!?" I can see his agitation growing, I can smell it even.

I decide to try and explain what I do remember. "Look, I was on my way home from work when I heard about the LHC incident and the resulting storm. I parked my bike at a shop and tried to help as many as I could. In my haste to help others... I was hit by the, I assume lightning, that was part of the ionization caused by the LHC incident. Now I'm here."

I could see a flash of realization on his face before his next response. "That did this to you? Holy hell." I asked him if he could at least take the restraints off, seeing as I wasn't going anywhere anyway. He was wary at first, but after confirming some personal information he agreed.

My stomach churned. "How long have I been here? I'm really hungry." The officer said that the event was only 18 hours ago. Odd thing is, it felt like I hadn't eaten in three or four days. I asked to speak to a doctor or nurse. He said he would send someone in.

In came a doctor in a white coat with a stethoscope. He looked at me as if he were very concerned that I may maul him. "I don't suppose you could get me a steak in here could you? Oh, I also could use a mirror, I don't even know what I really look like." He pointed at the bathroom and mentioned that they didn't have steak, but there was beef stew. I asked for the largest bowl of it they would bring to me. After which he left the room as fast as he could.

I sat up, immediately noticing that I had new appendages. The first I noticed was the tail, because I sat on it and nearly fell off the gurney. Id have to remember that for future reference. Then I noticed that I happened to be a bit back heavy, which upon further inspection was due to a pair of wings on my back.

Being a bit in shock due to the totally different body I was in, walking was difficult. That may also be due to the fact that my feet were radically different, they resembled what you see on werewolves with a normal walk achieved on the toes. So I stumble into the bathroom and find a full length mirror on the door.

What I saw made my jaw drop. I was a bit shorter, covered with fur that was a purple so dark it was almost black. My wings were bat like, maybe a bit more furry. My head was, well, different. I have horns and a muzzle full of sharp teeth. And I was naked! Well the fur hid everything, which was most unsettling. I was definitely not male anymore. My chest was now adorned with a set of B or C cup breasts, and my groin was home to a pair of black vaginal lips. Which actually made me happy. As outwardly manly as I was, I had always wanted to be on the other side of the gender fence.

After a few minutes of self exploration that was remniscient of puberty, there was a knock on the door. To my delight, it was a nurse with the food cart. I told him to leave it by the table. After cleaning myself up I came out to see a full pot of beef stew, which I dug into hungrily.

After finishing my meal of what I could only describe as "the best beef stew ever" I phoned the nurses station and asked about being released as I was apparently in good health as far as anyone could tell. Her response was yes I could go, but orders had come down from the CDC that anyone affected by the LHC event would have to wear a tracking device. Something of a cross between wildlife GPS tags and a house arrest anklet.

I was concerned about this but could definitely see the reasoning behind it. She also informed me that a psyche evaluation was required, but the agent that was here had already vouched for me. I stopped by the nurses station covered with nothing but a towel and asked about getting some clothes, which they helped me with as much as they could. I ended up in a miniskirt and a bikini top. These were both out of necessity as my tail would definitely not work with pants and my wings made shirts useless.

By now, news of many more people being altered by the LHC incident was spreading. I found an old friend that worked in the medical plaza and asked If he could give me a ride to the auto shop where my bike was. He kinda freaked, not knowing who I was, which is reasonable now that I don't even share the same gender anymore. I convinced him with some history that not many people would know of, and he gladly helped me out. I thanked him for his time after we arrived and asked him to keep this quiet for a while, not wanting to cause any undue drama.

Upon investigation of the shop, I figured I would have to let myself in to get my bike. Which wasn't that difficult, as the glass was blown out in the sales office. After rooting around and noticing the security was fried, I decided to just break the locked door leading to the garage. This was much easier than I would have expected. This new body must have more dense muscle mass. I found my helmet and keys and got on the bike.

As I tried to put my helmet on I was reminded that my head was no longer the shape required for it. I locked it on the back seat in case somebody needed it, and took off to my dads place. I expected to be limited to around 35-40 miles an hour with no eye protection and all, but was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that the wind did not bother my eyes at all. Must be an adaptation for flight I mused to myself as I accelerated away from a light with traffic stopped both ways gawking at what they saw.

By the time I exited the highway to go to my fathers house I was surrounded by vehicles full of people trying to get a glimpse of what one of the victims of the LHC incident looked like. Before I exited I waved and gave them a toothy grin. The rest of my ride was thankfully uneventful, no cops or news choppers.
