In addition, every precaution was taken to make sure that this little space of land remained our own. About 500 feet out from the gate, a wall had been constructed to look like the side of a cliff. It also had a solid concrete barrier extending another 20 feet into the ground that would discourage anyone or anything from digging their way in.

There were only two ways in or out of the private area, one was through the gate that required Charlene and I to open together and the other was a doorway on the front part of the wall that could only be opened from the inside, which would serve as an emergency exit. However, given the area where our oasis was made, it was unlikely that this exit would ever have to be used and we would be able to come and go as we pleased without anyone knowing about it who we didn't want to tell. For now, this spot was exclusively for my sisters and I to play in, but there was always a chance that things could change later on.

In the meantime though, it was time to focus on my sisters as I walked with them towards the middle of our oasis. In this area, there was a patch of dirt about 10 feet in diameter with a few rocks located at one end of the circle.
