Hunt the Doe
Short little story I wrote in about five minutes after my editor suggested a little game Amunet might play after her adventure through the forest and around the city.
Amunet has found herself in a familiar position. Naked, save for the collar around her throat, she runs through the woods. Not far behind her she could hear the sound of someone else running, someone she was trying very hard to escape from. She knew that in a flat out race he would win, she needed to be tricky if she was going to stay out of his grasp for long enough. Her eyes were peeled for a specific hiding spot, but even if she got to it, escaping would be tricky. She would need to sneak away while he looked around for her, and do so without making any noise.
She saw her hiding spot come into view, it was one she knew the man hadn't seen before. After this he would know of it, but that was best left to be worried about another day. She quickly dove under the log. After having hidden under here the very first time she was left naked in the woods, she decided to keep it her little secret, especially since, after just a little bit of work, the hole she hid in looked nearly invisible from the outside.
She watched as the green clad figure carefully stalked into the clearing. His eyes were peeled for her, knowing that she couldn't be far. Amunet watched, calming her breathing as much as possible to remain quiet. She waited until the man's back was turned, then tried to slip out quickly and quietly, ducking behind a tree.
She had managed to make it that far, but getting any farther proved to be difficult. Her mind was not completely on her sneaking, she didn't notice the small twig. The resulting Crack seemed much louder than it should in the quiet forest. Before she could even start to run though the man had jumped her, tackling the girl to the ground and leaning in close "Got you."
Amunet sighed and shook her head "Alright Iestyn, you won that round, but I was close there. So, what does my master wish for me to do for him?"
