A boy and his dog
My first story rewritten and edited.
I want to thank protoborg for editing the story for me.
May 3rd, 6 PM, Miller Lake -- The shepherd boy sits on the edge of the pier, legs over the edge. The fishing pier sits serenely just a few feet above the water. His foot paws are just an inch from the water. He lets out a soft sigh as he stares at his reflection in the smooth surface of the lake. The only
thing left of his humanity physically is his blue eyes. At first he was unsure of his of new form, but his love for the German shepherd breed has led him to adore his new body. Holding his paws out in front he looks them over. They are covered in brown fur. They have kept the shape of human hands, though, so he can't complain too much.
He lays back on the pier staring up at the cloudless blue sky. As the sun starts to set over the mountains, he closes his eyes and reflects back on what has happened to him the pass couple days.
It had started 36 hours earlier.
May 2nd, 6 AM, Kyle's bedroom -- The day began as every day did for Kyle. He got up and jumped in the shower. He got out and stood in front of the mirror feeling a little depressed about his looks. He only stood 5'-5" and weighed 225 lbs. The only feature he liked about himself was the blue eyes. Other than that, his brown hair was always messy no matter how much he combed it and his acne was worse than anyone else in his high school. Being 18 sucked, but what else could he do.
After getting dressed he grabbed a couple pieces of toast and headed out the door. As he closed the front door Rex, his best friend, greeted him with a wagging tail.
"Hello pup," he says with a smile giving the German shepherd his second piece of toast. "See you after school." Kyle jumped into his car and drove away.
Once at school, he grabbed his math book and headed to class. Math came easy for Kyle, so as the teacher talked about an equation he looked down at his smartphone, looking over the daily news. After seeing nothing really happening today, he put the phone away and began working on homework. As he finished his homework the bell rang. He was the first to leave the classroom, and quickly made his way to the locker to put his stuff away and grab his gym clothes.
He grinned as he reached the locker room. Once again he was the first one in. He hated changing in front of others. Kyle stripped down to his brief and quickly put on shorts and a t-shirt. As he bent down to tie his shoe he noticed other males already in the locker room. Some in just their boxers. He tried his best not to stare at their bulges a bit jealous they were much bigger. He shook those thoughts from his head and headed to the gym. Gym was of course as much as ever for Kyle. That is to say no fun at all. It is, after all, rather difficult to have fun in gym class when you are jealous of everyone else.
After gym they headed back to the locker room. Kyle was the only one who wouldn't shower after gym. He was way too shy. He was quick to change clothes and leave. Although, not before catching a view of some of the well hung guys in his class. Even though he liked to look at other guys, Kyle never consider himself gay or bisexual it was more of a comparison of how much bigger he wished he could be... or so he would tell himself.
They still had 5 minutes before the bell rang, so he pulled out his phone to check the news. One story caught his attention. In the article, there was a virus being passed from dog to dog. If the dog was thought to have it, the owner was to call The Center for Disease Control. Further in the article it mentioned most of the dogs become aggressive and tried to turn on their owner. They compared it to rabies, but without the foaming at the mouth. There had been close calls but not one report of the owners being attacked. The CDC commented it may be dangerous to humans, but nothing has been confirmed. His thoughts turned to Rex, but quickly dismissed the idea, Rex was in good health, but he thought maybe best to go check on him at lunch. The rest of the morning went by quickly and, at lunch, Kyle jumped into his car and drove home to his pup Rex.
Once home he saw Rex was lying next to his dog house. Rex's tail wagged seeing Kyle getting out of the car. He quickly jumped to his feet and ran to his owner. "Who's my good boy," Kyle says, petting the dog on the head as he heads into the house.
Kyle walked into the kitchen to make himself a sandwich as Rex ran around in the living room with his squeaky toy, making as much noise as possible. For being apure bred German shepherd, Rex was bigger than most of his kind. One of Kyle's favorite features about his pup's markings was the black nose and ears with brown running down his cheek and around his eyes.
Already running late, Kyle quickly put everything away taking both sandwiches. He walked into the living room where Rex is sitting at the door, waiting. He reached for the door knob when Rex growled and snapped at his hand, but Kyle was quick. He pulled his hand back. "Fine, you can have one."
He tossed him a sandwich to Rex but he ignored it. Rex stood up and slowly walked towards Kyle, still growling. Just as Kyle reaches into his pocket for his phone, Rex attacks, using his powerful jaws to clench down on his shoulder. Kyle staggers a few steps back before falling back hitting his head on the corner of the wall.
Being knock out cold was probably the best thing for Kyle at the moment, as the virus passed from the dog's mouth to Kyle and changes in the bite area started to occur. Kyle's arm lengthened a few inches as the fat melted away quickly and pure muscles replaced it. Rex released his grip on his owner's arm and collapsed next to the body. The wound healed quickly with new skin. A mixture of brown and black fur spread up and down his arm moving to his shoulder. With the virus spreading quickly throughout the body, most of Kyle's body fat melted and turned into muscle causing his jeans to rip. His body grew taller; the pain of growth causing Kyle to groan. Kyle let out a scream from the pain of his facial structure changing as his mouth lengthened to form a muzzle. His human ears merged with the side of his head as his new ones formed on top. Kyle lay back on the floor panting looking up at the ceiling.
"What the hell just happen?"
Kyle looked down at his nose noticing it wasn't even human. He moved his paw up to feel it, slowly rubbing it. He smiled dumbly as rubbing it actually felt pretty good.
He rose to his feet and let out a whimper as his now tight jeans rode up on him. The jeans weren't going to work for him anymore, so he pawed at the button for a few minutes before being able to get them undone, then he pushed them down to the floor along with his boxers, leaving him more or less naked save for his fur.
Thinking back to the article he had read, he looked over at Rex lying on the floor. "No, this can't be happening." He dropped down to his knees and placed his paw on the dog's side, "Please don't leave me pup," Kyle whimpered thinking his pup was dead.
Kyle placed his arms under the shepherd, lifting him up. As he was about to carry his dog outside, he noticed the faint rise and fall of the dog chest. He smiled and wagged his tail and headed towards his room instead.
He laid Rex on his bed, to let him rest, and headed back downstairs to see the damage. There wasn't too much from where he was bitten, most of it was a bit of blood on the wall from where he hit his head. Once cleaned up he went back upstairs, but instead of heading to his bedroom, he went into his parent's room and closed the door.
Standing behind the door, the anthro shepherd looked into his mother's mirror. His paws traced over his new muscular form, causing him to smile a bit, as he always hated being fat and short. From just looking in the mirror he would have to guess he was about 6'2" or 6'3". With him being bigger he wonders if something else was bigger, he paw moved down over his now 6 pack and reached a nice plump sheath. He gave it a soft squeeze, letting out a soft moan just has he heard a car door slam.
"Shit."
He looked out the bedroom door and just heard the key turning in the dead bolt. He ran quickly down the hall to his own room slamming the door behind him. His dad was usually the first one home. Somehow he was going to have to explain why he was home early. Just as he feared, his father came up the stairs and turned to knock on his door.
"Kyle, are you in there? Why are you home from school so early?"
Kyle's heart raced, not sure what to say. "Umm... I came home for lunch to check on Rex. He bit me so I wanted to make sure it wasn't infected before I headed back to school."
"Are you ok?"
"Umm yeah. The bite was superficial. Rex is in here with me right now."
"Well okay. Next time call or text me, so I can at least call you out of school." His father turned away and headed towards his bedroom.
Kyle locked his bedroom door and headed over to his bed and flopped down next to Rex, who let out a small growl in his sleep. "Oh hush pup you're the one who got me into this mess." He sighed softly as he cuddled his shepherd, quickly passing out.
A couple hours later Kyle wakes to his mother knocking at the door. . "Kyle, honey. Are you awake?"
"Yeah mom. What's up?"
"Dinner is ready."
"Ok. I'll be down in a few minutes," he said momentarily forgetting his current situation. He realized just a few seconds too late what he had said. He couldn't stay locked up in his room all night. He would have to face his parents eventually. Kyle decided to just get it over with.
"What's the worst they can do," he asked Rex. The pup just gave him a confused look.
"Oh who asked you?"
Kyle unlocked the door and opened it. Rex stood next to him with a worried look on his puppy face. Kyle had the same look on his face. He walked slowly toward the stairs as he tried to keep his courage up. At the top of the stairs, Kyle paused and looked down at Rex, who was looking just as worried as when Kyle opened his bedroom door. As Rex began to whine softly, Kyle realized he had to either go through with it or run back to his room and cower in fear.
"I have come this far. I might as well keep going, huh boy?"
Rex just looked at his best and wagged his tail. Kyle took a deep breath and started down the stairs. He could hear his parents talking as his mother set the table. His father was going on about something at work. He tiptoed closer to the dining room door. He heard his mother say something about him and realized that if he didn't makes his presence known they would begin to worry about him. That was when he decides to just "take the plunge."
Kyle stepped out from behind the wall and casually walked into the dining room. His parents did not yet notice that he was there. He walked slowly over to his place at the table and pulled out his chair. The sound of the chair moving got his mother's attention. He glanced at him and stopped in mid-sentence. Kyle's father noticed his wife's distraction and turned toward his son. Both parents now had a look of shock on their faces. Kyle's father was the first to speak.
"Son, did... um... did something happen to you today? You look different."
Carol, Kyle's mother, just continued to stare at the creature standing naked in the dining room. She hadn't yet managed to figure out how to react to what essentially was a dog creature with her son's eyes. She just kept blinking her eyes slowly as the image of her naked son flitted through her confused mind over and over again. Kyle's father, Richard, cleared his throat to get Kyle's attention.
"Well?"
Kyle for his part had been thrown off-guard by the question and was still trying to process exactly how to answer. He ran all the possible answers and outcomes through his brain. At least he would have had his mind not gone completely blank. He was expecting a surprised reaction from his parents, but his father's question left him to stun to say anything. He blurts the first thing that came to mind. In hindsight, he really should have thought about his response more carefully.
"Rex bit me when I came home at lunch time."
The following 30 seconds or so was a little too confusing, at least to an outside observer, to truly explain it. Suffice it to say Richard might as well have been The Flash. He moved so fast to close the blinds and make sure no one had seen his son that he was almost a blur. Carol hadn't seen her husband move that fast in years. When Richard was certain everything was secure he spoke.
"Kyle, I am going to say this once. You must not let anyone know you are like this. I will call the school and let them know that you won't be back for the rest of the year due to a family emergency."
Kyle nodded slightly as he realized that his parents would make sure he was ok. He also realized he couldn't be trapped in the house for who knew how long. He had to figure out a way to get his parents to leave for the night. He thought quick and realized they usually had a date on Thursday nights. That meant they would out for at least 3 hours. He could use that time to escape the house.
"You guys shouldn't let this change affect your plans for the night. I will make sure the doors are all locked and the blinds are all closed. I will keep the lights low and the TV turned down. Go on your weekly date. I will be fine."
Richard looked like he was not sure that was a good idea. Carol had by this time recovered from the shock of seeing her son transformed into a humanoid dog. She seemed to think sticking with the regular routine was a good idea. She moved to put the food away as it was clear dinner was cancelled. She did manage to cast her vote for the idea while cleaning up the dining room.
"Richard, we need to give the outside world the impression that everything is normal. Besides, I have been looking forward to this date for some time now." She looked in Richard's eyes. "You promised," she said. The look she gave husband clearly said "you won't regret this."
"Fine. We are going to go out to a movie. We will be back later." Richard headed up to his room to start changing his clothes to get ready for the date. Carol had finished putting away the food. She looked worried about her son, but tried her best to put on a brave face. She followed her husband up the stairs to their room. She took one last glance back at the dining room before she disappeared down the hall.
Carol and Richard came back down a few minutes later looking rather fancy. Richard looked at Kyle again as he past him. Richard still seemed to be hesitant to leave he transformed son home alone. He really wanted to just lock Kyle in his room and hope the boy was back to normal in the morning. Richard knew his wife would neither be happy about that nor allow it to happen. Richard resigned himself to the current course of events. He knew he didn't have a choice. Carol could be very convincing when she put her mind to it. Most of the time, he would simply have to accept it as she wouldn't not change her mind once it was set on something.
"Be good, Kyle," his mother said as she and Kyle's father walked out the front door. Kyle locked the door behind them like the good little drone he was starting feel like. He waited until he heard his parents' car pull out of the driveway before he set in motion his plan to escape whatever his parents might be planning for him. He wasn't normally paranoid, but the look on his father's face had scared Kyle to his core. He wanted to be as far as possible from whatever his father might do to him.
Kyle looked in the fridge and saw there was pizza. He took two slices for himself and gave two to Rex. They both scarfed down their food quickly, and then Kyle grabbed his back pack dumping his books out and starting to stuff it with snacks out of the cupboard. Once filled with snacks he ran up to his room and grabbed some of his stuff. He put it into his pack. He stopped at the door, where Rex was waiting for him. Rex looked rather miserable knowing what Kyle was planning.
"Sorry pup, I have to leave you here for now. I will be back as soon as I can find a safe place for both
of us," he sighed as he pet Rex on the head as the pup lets out a soft whimper.
Kyle peaked out the front door to see if any of the neighbors were out. Lucky for him there was no one. He stepped out onto the front porch still naked, since none of his clothes now fit him. He slung his back pack over his shoulder and took off, running down the street ducking behind trees and bushes whenever a car drove by. After about an hour of running and ducking, he came to the edge of the forest somewhere on the other side of which was the lake where his parents took him every summer. Considering the time of day, he didn't expect anyone to be there.
He managed to find a place to sleep for the night. He missed his parents already, but he just couldn't let his father do whatever he was planning to do. Kyle had always thought his father loved him. That look on his father's face, however, had convinced Kyle that just maybe Richard was not the kindly loving man he let people think he was. Kyle began to set up his "camping area" for the night. He hoped Rex would be ok without him until KAyle could find a place that would take both of them.
Once Kyle had finished setting up his bed for the evening, he decided to have a look around the area. It turned out he had made it to Miller Lake. He walked down to the edge of the water and look out over the lake. As he looked at the look he noticed the old fishing pier was still intact. It brought back fond memories of many summers spent here at the lake. Kyle wondered over to the pier and walked to the end. He sat down at the edge of the pier and dangled his feet... well, his paws... over the edge.
The pier sat serenely just a few feet above the water. His foot paws stopped just an inch from the water.
He let out a soft sigh as he stared at his reflection in the smooth surface of the lake. The only thing left of his humanity physically was his blue eyes. At first he was unsure of his of new form, but his love for the German shepherd breed had led him to adore his new body. Holding his paws out in front he looked them over. They were covered in brown fur. They had kept the shape of human hands, though, so he couldn't complain too much.
He lay back on the pier staring up at the cloudless blue sky. As the sun started to set over the mountains, he thinks back on what has happened to him. Several hours later he fell asleep.
Kyle awoke to the beeping of his cellphone, a message from a friend asking what happened yesterday. Ignoring it, he gripped the phone in his hand as he stood up yawning. Just as he stepped onto solid ground, he felt a sharp stinging in his neck. His hand quickly jolted to the spot, feeling something sticking out. Pulling the dart from his neck, he stared at it only for a few seconds before collapsing to the ground.
