"What does she know?No big, scary Underground will scare me away!""Tara! Where are you!?""What are you doing! Get away from there! Stop!""Mommy? Where'd you go? C-Come back...I'm sorry!"I slowly tugged Kyle out of the stagnant water onto a nearby ledge. He was still out cold, surprising considering how chilling the water was. I let his limp figure lay flat to dry as I leaned against the wall exhausted from all the swimming. I put my head in between my legs as I sat down taking deep breaths. Eventually I pulled myself together and started walking around a bit. Unfortunately, there wasn't much room to walk, only about as large as bus. There was rusted railing blocking most of the platform off, and a cold steel door with a flickering yellow light. The walls were the same as the ones in the previous tunnel, dense and rough brick. The ceiling seemed to go on forever and the darkness soon swallowed it too. I sighed, and stared at the murky water, flowing rapidly toward no direction in particular. It was almost mesmerizing, the relaxing sounds of the stream, the cool air flowing through my mane, sending cool shivers down my spine. I could get used to this, maybe with less...evil.Nearby coughing breaks the serene silence and snaps me out of my trance. I turn to see Kyle sitting up, using his arm for support."Glad to see that you're awake," I said in a calm tone.He just glared at me before gently getting up and coughing some more. After a few moments of silence, I leaned up against the railing. "What was up back there?" I asked."Wha- oh yeah..." he said, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Sorry, its just...its been so long."I lifted an eyebrow in confusion before letting him continue."Light...plain, simple, natural light. I've been so used to seeing darkness, and hatred. The only light coming off of me, but then...I see this authentic beautiful beam shining through the blackness." 'Such a shame, surprised he hasn't gone and offed himself in this pit...' I thought."S-Sorry, didn't mean to get all preachy," he said blankly. I grimaced. I know I haven't known Kyle for long, but I felt for the guy. Bring trapped constantly under stress and pressure of surviving and killing and endless lightlessness. I gave him a friendly pat on the shoulder, showing my best smile. He gave a weak grin back before stretching and returning back to his normal peppy self."Alright, so what do we got to work with?" He said, popping his knuckles."Well," I began, getting off my perch on the railing. "We have a door and a current that will most likely kill us if we try to jump in again." "Well, I guess we both know which way
we're going now don't you," he said as if he were talking to a child.I rolled my eyes and sauntered over to the door with Kyle not to far behind. Although the door was large, we both managed to pry it open and hobble inside. We were met with a tight stairwell, leading downwards into the duck. I looked at Kyle, he gave a slight nod, and we both slowly continued downwards. Kyle began to glow so that we wouldn't trip trekking down. More continuous walking down the steps, in the all too familiar silence, not knowing what to expect in this endless staircase. We could be walking into another trap, knee deep in monsters. We could be walking deeper into the labyrinth, only ensuring our chances of our inevitable demise. Maybe we could even be walking into some hidden bandit sanctuary, forever living our lives there. But what we saw was completely different. After hiking down the steps, we entered a large and seemingly empty room. We stood in silence looking around for anything if interest, but to no avail as the darkness was too thick, even for Kyle's light. My ears flicked again and I turned my head forward to face the noise. Far away in the distance, I saw the flickering of large industrial lights overhead. More lights turned on as they made their way toward us. One by one, making a bright pathway across the room. The last light hit us dead on. I quickly covered my eyes to the sudden beam and when I removed my hand, the whole room and its entirety was revealed. Large holding cells filled with eerie creatures, howling and pounding on the bars that were preventing them from digging their claws into my gut. I recognised some, mostly the Ferals from before and some zombie like creatures lumbering around with their heads down. The rest I could barely recognize. Multiple limbs, horrid growths, malformed and twisted bodies. I could only imagine what they were before this nightmare happened. "What the hell is this place?" Kyle asked, scratching the back of his head."I was just about to ask the same question..."I said staring at the creatures. We slowly walked along the trail of lights, looking fixedly at the monstrosities thundering their cries in vain, wishing that their suffering will end. It was astounding how many souls were held in these cages. All of different structures and anatomy. Another door, large and intimidating stood at the end of the prison. "Come on Kyle, I don't want to be in here any longer than I have to," I said"Couldn't have said it better myself," he replied, rushing over to the door. We both got ready to push, but the door leisurely opened on its own. I scrunched up my face, this can't be good.We cautiously plodded into the notably light passageway. the feeling of danger constantly keeping me at edge. Another dark room, just like before. 'More of
these things?' I thought to myself. I soon realized that I was wrong as screens booted up across from us. They lined up the entire wall and light up the rest of the room, revealing a large chair and desk in the center of the room. "What the fu-" Kyle started."Ah ah ah! No need for that kind of that language Kyle, its rather impolite.""Who said that? Show yourself!" Kyle said, frantically looking around. The chair swiveled around showing a man in an all black suit, smoking a cigar. He had elegant white gloves on and a long black tail which casually swing back and forth. His face was covered by the shadows but I could clearly see that he was the cleanest thing I've seen down here so far. "How do you know my name?" Kyle inquired. "It's my job to know everything that goes down in here." he replied calmly."What do you mean by that?" I interjected. He sat silently for a bit before responding. "You must be Tara..." he said rather aggressively. I kept a straight face. "Yeah I am, what about it?"He got up from his slouched position on the chair and put his elbows on the deck in front of him."You. I've been keeping a close eye on you ever since you arrived on my little plain of oblivion, and to put it frankly: I don't like you. You don't belong here. You are a virus, a disease to my children. My beautiful children..."My heart began to race. 'This guy is bat-shit insane' I thought to myself. I continued to let him rant."We have a saying down here: Those buried in the Underground, forever in the Underground. But you, you just want out. To leave my utopia and never look back. Why can't you be like Stephen? He's such a good boy, so loyal to what he loves...""You don't know anything you crazy old man! Utopia? This place is horrible, disgusting, pure evil! Your children? Those sick freaks of nature trapped in those cages back there? You think they are happy? Their brains are probably to mutated to even feel any emotions anymore, and I'm guessing thats all your fault too! And don't you dare talk about Stephen like he's your pet. You don't know what he wanted..." I snapped out of my rage in front of the mysterious man, my paws placed firmly on his deck."Tara..." Kyle said quietly."Are you finished?" the man said after taking another drag from his cigar. I just stared blankly at his covered face."Look, I don't like you, and you don't like me. Thats fine, but I am not going to let you tell me how to run my people." He relaxed back into his chair once again and sighed."I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Ever since you arrived here, I've been trying to get rid of you, the 'Ferals' as you like to call them, Stephen, everything! But you're a stubborn one. If I've learned anything
in my life, is that the best way to take care of a problem is usually the easiest, so you know what? If I can't kill you, I'll have to go to plan B." He put his feet on the desk, showing off his polished black shoes. He put his cigar in his mouth before snapping his fingers. A blinding light shone at me, and soon, I passed out.The sound of water flowing peacefully across the smooth rocks woke me up. I sat up and rubbed my head to ease the slight headache that I received. 'Wait a minute...water?' I opened my eyes and quickly looked around. A creek flowing into a crystal clear lake nearby. The smell of wildflowers invading my nose as the birds chirped nearby in a large oak tree. The sun was setting, leaving a beautiful orange glow across the landscape. "What the hell?" I said, slowly getting up and walking around a bit. "This has to be a dream, this is too good to be true," I assured myself, touching the calm and cool water as it flowed through my fur. I looked at my reflection in the water. My clothes were clean and new, and the bandages around my neck were gone, along with the wound I received. "How long was I out..." I said pacing around."Wait..." I looked around and began to run, looking around in all directions. I stopped at the lakebed, falling to my knees. No sign of Kyle.I stared in silence, a cool breeze flowing through my mane sending cool shivers down my spine. A single tear fell down from my face."I sure am going to miss that son of a bitch..."
