Apt Punishment
Did this as a request for my brother, FA: darkfigure <3
Re-submitted and added a closed ending. Stop bitching.
Darky raised his cupped paws to his face, smiling happily. "Oh my, you're so tiny.." He whispered, keeping his voice down to refrain from hurting the tiny wolf's ears. He rubbed over the shivering canine's head with a single claw, gently scritching the space between the wolf's ears. He reassuringly rubbed and patted the micro, attempting to ease his concern. "I won't hurt you, I promise. I'll keep you safe." The bat whispered, bringing his cupped hands up to his cheek, cautiously pressing the micro against a cheek.
The little wolf reluctantly nuzzled back into Darky's silky cheek fur, beginning to enjoy the bat's warmth and gentle demeanor. How could a creature this sweet cause him any harm? Most 'giants' seemed to hold his kind in very low regard, but this bat was astonishingly kind.
"Oh, I almost forgot to offer you food and water!" Darky exclaimed, in that soft and gentle voice of his. "Would you like something to eat? We really only have fruit, but uh.. I could bring back a strawberry. What do you think?"
The wolf hesitantly nodded, a weak smile spreading across his muzzle. He didn't speak, himself, but nodding seemed to suffice. The bat began to make his way to the kitchen, with the micro still clasped to his dark cheek fur.
"I'll just set you down here, okay?" The young bat whispered out, as he gently grabbed the wolf, holding him between his index finger and thumb. Darky set the lupine down on the ebony kitchen counter, then turned to the refrigerator, and dug around in it.
The little wolf sighed softly and sat down, crossing his legs. His ears idly flicked around as he watched Darky scavenge around in the fridge. From what he could see, it was chock-full of various different types of fruit! It did make sense, though; bats ate a large amount of fruit.
"Here ya go!" Darky happily squeaked out, setting a single strawberry before the wolf. The strawberry was about half as large as the wolf, and was the richest shade of red that the micro had seen! The fruit was perfect, from the little brown hairs poking out from the pores, to the lush green growth coming out of its top. There wasn't a single blemish on it's ripe surface.
Darky smiled, amused and pleased by the surprised expression on the little wolf's face. His brother, Nox, always bought the best fruit that was available. This never failed to surprise guests, no matter what size. Darky plucked a strawberry from the small box in the fridge, and popped it into his mouth, chewing the little red fruit, all of its stores juices flooding his muzzle. He chewed the berry into a fine pulp, then swallowed down, and wiped his mouth with the back of a wing. "Good, isn't it?"
The micro, who had also been taking large bites of his own strawberry, nodded cheerfully. This was, without doubt, the very best strawberry he ever tasted. He briefly pulled his muzzle away from the strawberry, and wiped a little dribble of strawberry juice off of his chin. "T..Thank you." He murmured, hardly even audible.
Darky practically glowed with happiness. He beamed down at the wolf, smiling happily. "I'm just glad I could help, little guy!" He happily chirped out, as he reached down and gently rubbed at the little wolf's head; his smooth claw rubbed at the space between the micro's ears.
...
Darky and his micro were happy; Despite their size difference, their friendship had blossomed immensely. Weeks melted into months, and still, the duo remained the best of friends. The bat and wolf were inseparable; Darky took his friend -everywhere-.
Unfortunately, good things never last.
...
Darky adjusted the buds in his ears, humming quietly as he ascended the steps to his home. The young bat dragged a claw through his silky hair, and smiled to himself. It had been a long and tiring day, but he was glad to be home.
Darky opened the door to his house, and slipped, locking it behind himself. The bat dropped his backpack by the door, and quickly made his way to his small room. He had been eagerly looking forward to spending more time with his pet, who he left at home today.
The winged mammal opened the door to his room, and his jaw dropped. There, sitting on his bed, was his older brother. The oddly colored bat was peering down into his cupped hands, with a disgusted expression on his face.
"B-brother! Hi!" The younger bat weakly called out, taking a couple of steps into the room. He stood up on his tiptoes, hoping to perhaps catch a glimpse of what was in his brother's hands. Surely enough, his suspicions were confirmed. A little wolf lay between the white bat's claws. It appeared to be unmoving, further adding to Darky's horror.
"Darky, why do you have a micro in your room..?" The older bat, Nox, inquired. He slowly looked up, frowning. Though he wasn't one to get upset, he absolutely detested micros. He often said that the little pests were better off dead.
"I... He's my friend." Darky mumbled quietly, looking down at his feet. There was no use in denying it; the wolf had probably already explained himself, and further deception would land Darky nowhere. "Brother, I know you don't like micros, but he's not a bad one. I've had him for a couple of months, now, and he hasn't done a single thing wrong. H-he's actually multi-purpose! He can clean and reach all the slots we can't!" Darky quickly blurted out, hoping that cleaning would be an inventive for his brother to keep the micro.
Nox closed his hand, momentarily hiding the micro from view. "None of that is important. What really matters, here, is that you lied to me." Nox glared at Darky. He was indeed quite upset with the younger bat. "If you would've -just- asked me, I would've let you keep him! Hell, I was going to get you a micro, too, since I know how you like 'em!" The older bat stood up, still clutching Darky's micro in his hand.
Tears welled up in Darky's eyes. He swallowed audibly, trying to keep himself from breaking down and sobbing. "B-brother, please..! I didn't do it to disobey you, or anything! I.. I just found him, and he looked so sad, and hungry, an-"
"I don't care! How many times did I tell you, not to let those pests in? Why is it so hard for you to follow simple instructions? " Nox took a step forward, standing right in front of the shorter bat. "I'm going to give you two choices, here. Either -you- eat him, or I will, and trust me.. I like to chew my food."
Darky's knees felt wobbly. He could hardly believe that all of this was happening to him! A mere twelve hours ago, he was sitting with his micro, feeding him from the same bowl he served cereal in. Now, the life of his little micro was in danger, and it seemed that Nox couldn't be convinced otherwise. Darky, tears already running down his cheeks, extended a hand. "C-could I just... See him? Just one last time, brother.. Please.."
The older bat scoffed under his breath, dropped the micro into Darky's hand, and took a step back. "So I guess that means you'll be eating him." Nox stated flatly. "Make this a quick goodbye; I've got things to do, and frankly, I'm sick of dealing with your disobedience." Darky pressed the micro against his cheek, and squeezed his watery eyes shut. He gently nuzzled at the little wolf, just like he had done so many times before. "I'll.. I'll never forget you, for as long as I live. I'm so sorry.." The bat choked out, his voice cracking a couple of times. Tears freely ran down his cheeks, dampening the little wolf's fur. If not for his brother clearing his throat, Darky wouldn't have stopped nuzzling his tiny friend. The winged mammal slowly pulled his hands away from his cheek, holding the micro in his cupped palms. He stared down into them, tears still leaking out of his eyes.
The little micro stared back into Darky's eyes, his own small ones filled with tiny tears. He wiped at his eyes with the back of a hand, then leaned closer to one of the bat's fingers, and gave it a tight hug. He did this not to comfort himself, but to comfort the heartbroken bat. The wolf would die, and that would be the end of that, but Darky would have to live with the knowledge that he unwillingly killed the only thing he had ever truly loved.
Darky took a shaky breath, then slowly raised his hands up to his muzzle. He made sure to keep them steady, so the wolf wouldn't tumble off of them, and further injure his frail body. "This is all my fault.. I.. I can't believe.." Darky began once more, and emitted a choked sob. The micro, upon seeing this, reached out and pressed a little hand up against the bat's nose, to comfort him. Darky's eyes opened briefly, and he was able to make out the form of the wolf, from behind his watery eyes.
The little wolf finally spoke, now that he was close enough for Darky to properly hear him. "I'll always be with you. I.. I don't hold this against you. It wasn't your fault. Please.. Don't you ever think this was your fault, okay? If not for yourself, do it for me. That's the only thing I'll ask of you, Darky. N-now.. Open up."
The wolf's little speech strengthened poor Darky. He nodded slowly, and hesitantly opened his mouth, revealing the glistening pink insides. His muzzle was certainly a terrifying sight for someone so tiny! Two sharp fangs protruded from his gums, and extended further down than the rest of his other teeth. It wasn't surprising, considering that Darky was a vampire bat, after all. Beyond those sharp fangs was a long and thin tongue, a uvula, and of course, the bat's tight throat.
Following the micro's quiet encouragement, Darky slowly pressed his open palm to his mouth, forcing the little wolf into the hot and humid cavern, which smelled faintly of strawberries. Darky hesitantly closed his mouth, and inhaled through his nose. He felt sick to his stomach, knowing that he was eating his best friend.
Before Nox could command Darky to swallow, the bat quickly tilted his head back, and gulped audibly. He certainly didn't want to prolong the atrocious task. It would be better to swallow quickly and get it over, rather than torturing himself and his friend. A small lump traveled down along Darky's throat, and his brother followed it with his eyes.
The wolf squeezed his eyes shut, slowly traveling down along the bat's throat. Tight muscles squeezed and steadily pushed him further down into his friend. The absolute darkness, searing heat, and constant slicking noises, all became part of the little wolf's new world. To him, it honestly didn't feel like he was making any progress at all. At one point, he figured he was just being held in the bat's tight throat!
Darky slumped onto his bed, hands cupping over his face and eyes, as he sobbed. Sniffles and choked whimpers came from him, as he finally realized the finality of what he had just done. There would be no more of the little wolf he had come to know and love. Aside from the rare attention from his brother and friends, Darky would be alone now. This is the thought that frightened him the most, and the thought that drove the most sorrow into his shattered heart.
The micro finally reached the ring of muscle that signaled the beginning of Darky's stomach. He was roughly squeezed through, and a dull snap echoed from his elbow, as it was broken in order to force him through the tiny little hole. That was the most difficult part; the rest would be easy. The little wolf would just have to lay in his friend's stomach, and endure the painful wave of acids that would wash over him.
"I hope you learned your lesson, Dark. None of this would've happened, if you would have just been upfront with me about it. Why did you have to hide him from me? I would've been perfectly fine if you would've just -asked- me." Nox glared at the sobbing bat, still showing no sign of pity.
Darky simply turned away from his brother, and curled up on his bed. He stared at one of his walls, his eyes tracing over one of the posters on his walls. It offered little comfort to him, because it just reminded him of the first time the wolf had commented on it.
...
"That's a really neat poster! I'll probably never get a chance to play it, myself, but I can dream."
...
Sloshes and gurgles echoed throughout the wolf's acid-burned ears. He would have clenched his mouth shut, but the acid had eaten away a hole in the front of his muzzle, exposing his bloody teeth and gums. There was nothing for him to do, except to bask in his own miserable thoughts, and the hideous pain of the acid. Thankfully, he wasn't able to see himself, because his eyes had been corroded by a splash of stomach acid.
...
The little bat sniffled, and sighed. His eyes were fixed on a small clock on his wall. Three hours had passed since he first ingested the micro, and two had passed since his brother had finished his lecture on the importance of obedience, and of the threat that micros could pose, to a household. By that point, Darky had given up; resorted to laying on his bed, staring at his clock, and wondering how the poor wolf was doing. Perhaps it was best not to try to vomit him back up, because he was probably a mess by now. While he could have been alive, he would've had stripped down to bare flesh, and holes would've been eaten in his body. His eyes would've been gone, and his face would've been raw. Darky didn't want to regurgitate his friend, only to have him die of his wounds. It would be better to keep him in his memory as he was in life; happy, carefree, and as sweet as could be.
And sweet, he had tasted.
