Finally! I've been working on this one for a while, so I'm glad to say it's finally done. Many thanks to Cheetahs for funding the commission. He's a great guy, and the stuff he puts out is awesome. You can find him here--> https://cheetahs.sofurry.com/. Now, onto the story. This is a tale of two lovers in a resistance against the evil regime lead by the humans. Great action, sci-fi, and a nice yiff scene. It's about half way in.

Now, time for some soulless advertising. Check out Skatelian. He's my favorite actor on SoFurry, and I'm yet to see a bad story from him. Go vote for Game of the Year and other categories on the "Game of the Year Voting" thread on the forums. I'll post the results around New Year's. Finally, check out my other stuff. I write for you guys. Give honest critizism, grammar/spelling errors, everything to make sure the stories are as good as they can get.

Well, that's just about it. Without further adieu, I give you... Homeland

It had been a while since the world went to shit. The end of the world had been predicted in many different ways by many different people, but no one was prepared for the apocalypse. Before, life for many had been good. Teenagers were reaping the benefits of the new PS4 and Xbox One, the world was enjoying a prolonged peace, and science was finding cures for some of the world's worst diseases. In all the genius of "modern medicine", there was nothing anyone could do about the plague.

The Great Plague infected its hosts' brains, causing the victim to become homicidal before killing it in less than a week. It lay dormant for days before showing symptoms, which allowed it to spread rapidly across the globe. Patient 0 was infected in May of 2014. By Christmas, 98% of the world population was a corpse. The few people that remained buckled down against the infection, creating small pockets of civilization scattered across the globe.

Funny thing about the plague. While it killed of humanity, it gave rise to other inhabitants of the world. The plague seemed to not affect other animals. In fact, it bettered them. Seeing this, the CDC experimented with many possible cures, one of which was to add animal DNA into humans'. The government gathered subjects for this, their most ambitious project. However, it was also their greatest failure. Instead of combining two strands of DNA, it changed the subjects into the animals themselves. These "transitioners" were immune to the virus, which allowed them to live.

The plague affected other animal species as well as humans, but the effects on animals were astounding. It, too, attached to its hosts' brains, but instead of killing the host, it gave the animals greater intelligence. They could organize and do things in a very constructive manner, including taking back the planet. When the humans realized this, they tried to fight off the animals in an effort to maintain control. This is where our story begins. In the New York area, there was a pocket of humanity left that called themselves "The Resistance". Like most of what was left of humanity, they fought against "The Earth Warders", or the highly-intelligent animals trying to regain the planet.

The Earth Warders were never interested in power. They were never interested in politics, land, resources, or any of the traditional motives of war. They stood for something that was bigger than themselves. They protected the Earth for their animal comrades. Nothing more, nothing less. They saw the humans as aggressors, and they fought a defensive battle.

They had small camps here and there, and lived in closely-knit communes. They cared for each other, protected each other, and tried to better the community around them. Their leadership comprised of high-ranking "officers" in their fighting forces. The most prominent was a majestic elk, whose aura commanded great respect and authority. Most regarded him as the leader, but he played himself as just another piece in the puzzle.

But, back to our story.

In what had been 40 years, both sides had become very organized and battle-minded. Two animals had risen to be leaders of the Earth Warders. The first was a lioness named Sarah. Her creamy, light brown fur ran flawless down her body. Even in this post-apocalyptic world, her fur was always high on her list of priorities. Her tail was the most groomed part of her body. It was always smooth, always tidy, and seamless from base to the almost-blonde tip. Back before the plague had claimed most of humanity, she was a subject of the government project. Like the others, she became an animal. The experiment also gave her a special power. She achieved telekinetic abilities, letting her move small objects around her.

The second was a cheetah named Nicholas. His speckled fur had a base of golden yellow and spots of jet black scattered throughout that, although poor for camouflage, was a sight to behold. He was much more unkempt than Sarah. He focused on what he did, not so much how he looked while he did it. Like Sarah, he was also in that experiment. He also gained an extra ability. Through the experiment, he got these heavy-fiber claws that could be extended out of his body and rip through flesh and thin armor. What is possibly the most impressive result of the plague was that the animals affected could communicate telepathically. This allowed them to organize so well and wage their war against the humans.

On this particular day, they were supposed to take on the biggest mission they ever had. They were supposed to infiltrate the Resistance camp in Lower Manhattan and assassinate their leader, Michael Douglas. They said their good-byes to the others, and then headed out. They left just as the sun was setting, ready to go kick some human ass. Nick was always the more aggressive in battle, so the Earth Warder leaders normally sent Sarah with him. She was much more passive, so when she and the cheetah agreed on a plan, it was always flawless. Because this mission was so important, there was no one else that the Earth Warders could send that could do it better.

They set out just as the sun was beginning to set below the horizon. For this mission, they were wearing a special armor that had been adapted to be worn by the animals. It was jet black and was plated in separate plates to protect from gunfire and crushing blows. It fit tightly against the two felines, but also comfortably and allowed for easy movement. Many joked that when you wore it, you looked like you were going to Comic-Con as Batman, but without the cowl.

The sun was nearly gone by the time they reached the edge of Long Island. It was dark enough that they didn't have to worry about the humans spotting them, so they decided to go over the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan. Nick looked around in the sunset-lit bridge, recognizing bits and pieces of the old culture. I remember having to drive on this thing every day. I've never felt more uncomfortable in my life, even after that experiment. As always, Sarah could hear everything he thought. She nodded back at him. Tell me about it. I had to do the same thing back in Orlando. They past an overturned truck filled with discs and books. Aw, remember these? I used to LOVE the madden games. The Giants were the shit in those._The lioness just smirked, letting Nick revel in his past. _C'mon Nick, we have a job to do. You can remember the "good times" when we get back. With that, the lioness was able to persuade her cub-like partner's personality to focus long enough to get back on track.

They didn't encounter any signs of the Resistance until well into Manhattan. It was almost ironic that the humans decided to build a stronghold at the site of the World Trade Center, but it was humanity's home nonetheless. On their way to the Resistance's stronghold, they had to pass all the way around to avoid a head-on attack. Their plan was to stay in a nearby building to scout and rest until the morning, then infiltrate the fort. Sneaking down Murray Street in the light of the moon, the felines heard a ruffle of steps to their left. They looked at each other, then split up to hide, one on each side of the road.

Two patrol members came around the corner. Equipped with the standard M-28 assault rifles, they strolled down the street, pointing the flashlights around every now and then. Sarah was behind a car, whereas Nick was behind a mass of overgrown grass on the other side of the street. Which one do you want? Sarah motioned to the guard on her side of the street. Wait for my signal, then go get them. And try to keep it quiet. Nick hated when she took that condescending tone of, well, thought. Sounded like his mother.

Sarah nodded, then quietly stalked the patrol. The cheetah was right behind her, both silent as the night air around them. Without the millions of people, New York was peaceful. The patrol went through a patch where the pavement had worn away, into the grassy area that was now most of the city. Nick was the first to attack. He jumped up and tackled the guard, then bit down on the back of his neck. His victim was still squirming, blood gushing out everywhere. Nick didn't waste any time of ripping the patrolman's throat out. He threw it over to the side into the pool of blood that was now gushing around the body. He looked up and over to the side where the lioness was painted red, standing over another body that had been ripped apart.

After the jungle cats had dragged the bodies into the thick foliage, they proceeded to a skyscraper (or at least what was left of it) to rest for the night. They ascended the main staircase to the 17thfloor, then went into the interior of the building. It was relatively empty, except for a few computers and office appliances. They went around to the side of the building that overlooked the Resistance stronghold. Nick looked over to the lioness at his side; It's obvious that we need to come in through the east. Much less security on that side of their compound. She nodded in agreement, but with a smile that looked like she was about to burst of laughing. Yeah. I just hope when this is over I can really get a bath. The guy nearly exploded all over me. I mean, look at this! She turned to the cheetah to show the mess under her armor. What was once silky tan fur was now mostly matted thick with crimson. You don't look much different, either. I can't tell if your spots are supposed to be black or red. It was true. There was so much blood around his face that he just looked like a crimson feline with yellow and black spots.

Here, let me take care of that. With that, the cheetah went over to the lioness and started giving her a tongue bath. It wasn't mean to be perfect, but it was something. He cleaned off her face, and then went down her body. As he got lower, he started feeling different. He had never felt like this, at least not since he became the cat he was now. He just couldn't put his paw on it. There was just a little left, but he was a good friend and was going to finish the job that he started. It was then that realized what he was feeling. He was falling in love with his partner. Nick realized that he had always felt something, but hadn't focused on it until now. He was under the moonlight, alone in the decaying office with his long-time lioness friend.

Sarah was enjoying the bath she was getting from Nick. Unknown to him, Sarah had felt something for Nick for a while. He was one of the few animals that knew how she felt. She was a human without humanity. It always made her different, no matter how much she had assimilated into the animals' culture. She was thinking about her past and her future when, expectantly, she felt the cheetah lick just a little lower than she was expecting. Nick sensed her surprise. Sorry. Sorry. I didn't mean to lick you on your... sorry. Even in his thoughts, he sounded uncomfortable and embarrassed.

No, it's okay. You should finish. I don't want that to be the only spot that's covered in this mess. With that, Nick, still very cautious and a bit embarrassed, went back to finish her bath. He licked at her sex again, and as he licked, his strokes became less controlled and focused on cleaning, and took on a more sexual aspect. The lioness let out several moans of pleasure, which just egged the cheetah on. After a while Nick stopped "cleaning" her. He leaned towards her faced and licked over her nose. I think I'm falling in love with you, Sarah. I think I've always loved you, but haven't noticed it until now.

Sarah gave him a little smile (or as much as a feral can smile) and a mew of approval. I want you, Nick. I NEED you. With that, she got up, walked toward the window, and leaned down. She raised her rump in the air and gave it a little wiggle. Even though he was new at this with his current body, (and he'd only had sex a few times as a human) he seemed to know what to do. Almost as if his new body was instinctually guiding him on its own.

He got up and walked toward her. His animal cock was almost completely out of its sheath already, and he couldn't say he wasn't impressed with himself. It was huge compared to his old human dick, and was still big compared to feline standards. It swung with his huge orbs as he walked up to the lioness. When he got to Sarah, he climbed up on her, trying to aim his cock in the right place. He was slowly thrusting aimlessly, trying to hit his mark. It took a few tries, but he eventually hit his mark. She mewed out in pure pleasure as Nick buried half of his member in her in his first successful push.

He quickly settled into a quick rhythm and pushed deeper and deeper with each thrust. Sarah was loving every bit of it. After Nick had settled into a rhythm, she began pushing back into him with each thrust. Groans and moans were all that came out of Nick. Each thrust brought a new sound that was different from any he had let out before, but all of them said the same thing. They all said that he was in bliss, and that he was loving the feeling of Sarah's tight tunnel around his dick.

His thrusts grew in power and quickness, which just excited Sarah even more. She was moaning out in pleasure every time his dick went into her, and even louder when he scraped his barbs against her tunnel every time he drew out. Her screams got even louder when she hit her peak, and she came hard. Her body was shaking as her orgasm racked her body in pure ecstasy. Nick quickly approached his own peak as Sarah's sex grew even tighter around his dick. With one final thrust, Nick buried himself balls-deep. As he did so, he let out a loud, guttural roar and let loose as far inside of her sex as he could.

The feeling of Nick cumming inside of her brought Sarah to another climax almost immediately. The combined fluids of Sarah's two orgasms and Nick's own climax were spilling out of her pussy and onto what was left of the tiled floor. When they had both come down from their afterglow, Nick slowly brought his dick out Sarah's sex. She shuttered as his barbs raked against her well-stimulated walls. When it came out, a small waterfall of cum flowed out of her and joined the rest on the floor.

He climbed off of her and flopped over on his side, still breathing heavily. Sarah just fell to the floor, exhausted. Nick wriggled up to his lioness and lay next to her, staring into her eyes. I love you, Sarah. He thought as he licked her nose. I love you too, Nick. She responded. Before the conversation could continue, they had both fallen asleep. They were there, asleep and under the moonlight of the silent night, and lay up next to each other. Even in this post-apocalyptic world, they both dreamed dreams of the time before, when everything was simpler, but at the same time, so much more complicated.

The sky was getting a slight orange hue as the two felines awoke from their sleep. They just lay there for a few minutes, thinking of the night's activities. Then Nick stood up and started walking toward the building's staircase. He looked back at Sarah. Come on. We still have a job to do. With that, he walked through the door frame (the door had long since been removed) and climbed down to the ground floor. Hold up! she yelled after him as she went down the stairs after him.

When they got to the street, the turned toward the east end of the humans' stronghold. They met another patrol about 5 minutes after they left the building, but left them alone. They figured it wasn't worth the trouble. They needed to keep things quiet. They did find a deer strolling down a side alley, however. Their stomachs rumbling, the choice was already made for them. Venison for breakfast it is.

After a small breakfast, they made their way to the Resistance stronghold. They lurked along the bastion's outer wall, looking for the soldiers' gate. They quickly found it, and then sat in wait in the grass for someone to open the door with an alphanumeric code. The unfortunate souls were two patrolmen coming back from an early morning patrol. The two felines went in right behind the two guards, and then attacked them when the door closed. They dragged the bodies into a side closet, hiding the evidence as best they could. They made their way through the halls of the building, heading towards the control center. That's where they figured Douglas would be.

They went into a large room, in which there were a dozen soldiers. Shit! Nick, get down! They hid behind one of the desks in the room. Okay,_Nick thought as he was scoping out his surroundings, _there are two guys over here, and a bunch more on the other side. Go over to the guy over there, and take him on my signal. He nodded toward a human on the far side of the room, who was all alone. She silently went over towards the human, staying hidden behind the desks. Nick then brought his focus to another human that was walking toward him.

As the human was rounding the corner, Nick lunged out and caught the man's throat with his razor-sharp claws. They easily tore through the man's flesh without much more effort than cutting through butter. He lay there, bleeding out on the floor. Sarah had brought down the human that Nick had told her to get, but they had been spotted by the rest of the humans in the room. The humans drew their weapons and opened fire on the felines. They were pinned down, and the humans were advancing on their position.

Sarah got an idea. She went through the body that Nick had killed and found what she was hoping to find. What are you doing, Sarah. We need to find a way out of this! She came back to him with a grenade. That's what I WAS doing. I need you to make a distraction for a few seconds to draw their fire away from me. When I growl, duck. Nick took the hint, and snuck over to the other side of the room. The humans were nearly on top of Sarah when Nick knocked a pistol off of a desk. The humans then focused their fire on where they thought the cats were.

This gave Sarah just enough time for her plan. She held the grenade down and pulled the pin out with her teeth. She kicked it toward the humans, who were oblivious to her presence. She let out a loud roar, and then dove behind a desk. Nick heard her, and he jumped behind a desk hear him. Before the humans could react, a large blast rocked the room. The sound waves didn't let the felines hear. It was that loud. They emerged from their hiding places and ran to where the humans were. There were a few left, but many had been killed by the grenade. They went through the bodies, found the live ones, and slashed them in their necks. They had just gotten their hearing back by the time they had finished slicing the last of the bodies.

They exited the room and stopped in the hallway outside. You think they heard that, Sarah? Sarah looked at him with a disapproving stare. You think, dumbass? Come on. We gotta go now. Hopefully Douglas doesn't know about us yet. They sprinted down the hallway until they hit a door that held the control center behind it. You ready, Nick?

Ready. Let's finish this. With that, they nudged the door open.

The door creaked open, and the two felines entered the room. They saw that the room was empty, so they didn't really know what to do. As they made their way perplexed, into the room, they checked for any sign of where he was. Just as they grew comfortable, the chair at the front of the room near the windows spun around. When it spun around, a gunshot went off, and Sarah fell to the floor. Nick ran to the lioness. She lay on her side, unconscious, and was bleeding heavily from the bullet wound.

Nick looked up at the shooter. It was none other than Michael Douglas. He was sitting with a grin in the chair, holding a P-226 pistol. Nick growled at Douglas, teeth bared and metallic claws extended. Two other humans walked through the door, holding their M-28's. They just strolled into the room and stood on either side of Douglas, giving zero fucks in the process. Nick backed off and stood in front of Sarah's body, ready to die. He wasn't about to lay there and take it, though. He was going to fight.

Douglas stepped forward, looking down at the cheetah. With a monotonous voice, he looked at the cat and said "Welcome to our city, cat. I must say I'm proud of the progress that we've made. I'm impressed with you. You did well, but not well enough. I'm just glad you were able to fuck before you died. You really should be more quiet if you're gonna try and sneak around. From how it sounded, you must've really been great for her. But... all good things must come to an end. I'm not sorry, though. You kill my men and destroy my base? You're no better than the other animals you associate with. They'll miss you, but I sure as Hell won't."

He pointed his pistol at Nick. The cheetah stepped away from the body of his lioness and circled around the humans. He had his gun aimed at Nick's head the whole time. "Goodbye, you feral prick." With that, he fired. Nick growled in a violent tone as he jumped, just as Douglas fired, the bullet missing him by mere inches. Nick jumped up towards one of the guards next to Douglas and tackled him to the ground. He ripped the man's throat out and threw it aside. Blood pooled all around the body, and Nick leapt off of him. He had a look of hate in his eyes. His teeth were bared and dripping the blood of the human, with his eyes continually focused on the other guard's neck.

As the other guard was drawing his weapon, the cheetah lunged at him. He caught the man's arm and gripped it in his mouth. His teeth sunk in, and his claws slashed at the man's neck. It didn't take long until the man, coated in the blood of his own arm and neck, fell to the floor, dead. Nick got off of his latest victim and turned around to the muzzle of Douglas' gun touching him between the eyes.

"Move and I blow your brains across the floor!" The look of violence in Nick's eyes went away in an instance. It was replaced by a mix of fear and disappointment. He had failed. He had failed himself. He had failed the Earth Warders. And worst of all, he had failed Sarah. He would die, and Douglas would live. The humans would continue to fuck the world up, and there was nothing he could do. He closed his eyes and waited for the sweet release of Death. I'm sorry, Sarah.

There was a shot, and then silence. Nick opened his eyes, expecting to see the afterlife, but instead found himself to still be in the room. In front of him, he found Douglas, lying on the floor with a hole in his head. He didn't understand, until a pistol fell to the ground next to him. He looked over and saw Sarah, barely conscious but still alive. He ran over to her. Oh my God! Sarah, what just happened?

What do you think happened? I'm still in this fight. You forget... I can move things with my mind. That soldier shouldn't have dropped his gun. She forced a painful smile at this, then laid her head on the ground. The blood trickle had slowed, but it was still all over the floor around her. He looked down at her. Come on, Sarah. Stay with me here! He was trying to get her up, but to little results.

Go on. Get out of here! More of them are gonna be coming. I'll just slow you down. The cheetah was nearly crying. He knew this could've happened, but he never expected it to go like this. No, you're coming with me! Nick was trying to lift her over his back, but couldn't manage without hands. Sarah leaned up at him and nuzzled his face. She licked his nose, and said I love you, Nick. I love you. She went limp after that. Nick tried to wake her up again, but it was no use. She was gone.

I love you, Sarah. I'll always love you. He shed a tear, and put his paw over her eyes. He closed them, making it as peaceful of a scene as he could. He then walked out of the room, looking back at her before leaving. I'll always love you. With that, he was gone. He snuck out of the base and went back home. The animals gathered around him when he returned, but didn't ask him about the mission.

The leader of the Earth Warders went to him after Nick had gotten back. Douglas? Nick looked up towards the elk. Dead. The elk asked What about Sarah? He already knew the answer, but needed to hear it from Nick. _Dead._There was a sadness in the air that was impossible to shake. They all knew what had happened, and they had all tried to come to terms with it. But eventually, they all did. Their lives went on, and the war continued. However, Sarah was remembered. She was celebrated as a hero, and Nick always loved her.

That is the cost of war. We die, we live, and we remember. What matters is what happens in between. You can fear death, you can love it, or you can learn to accept it. Everything dies, but everything lives. The most you can do is learn to live. Live... until you die.
