#3 of Survival of the Fittest

Round 1: Quix Vs. Daniel

Daniel belongs to SSJ3Mewtwo

Quix belongs to Quixoticfur

Quix groaned slightly as he began to awaken, the drug-induced grogginess began to lift as he slowly tried to get to his feet. As he stood up he heard the telltale noise of metal clink together and as he looked down he saw that he his ankles and wrists were bound in silver chain, each one with its own separate lock on it. All four chains were bolted down to the ground, and as he patted himself down worriedly he realized that other than the clothes on his back he had nothing on him. When he looked around the room he only found a singular door amidst the steel walls, which looked extremely heavy and appeared to have no lock of its own. At first he thought the whole party might have been some sort of ruse to capture him, but as his thoughts began to run wild one of the walls suddenly turned a brilliant white before a silver dragon appeared on the screen.

"Ah Quix, you're the first one awake, congrats." The dragon said. "My name is Argos, and I will be the host for the remainder of this little competition that you are now a part of, and without any further pleasantries let's move right on to your first challenge."

"A challenge?" Quix asked as he looked around, trying to figure out where the camera was that allowed the dragon to see him.

"Of course, if there was no challenge then this would be a rather boring competition." Argos replied with a chuckle. "Now since you're a thief I think you're going to find this right up your alley, all you have to do is undo the four locks that are keeping you in the middle of the room. But since just that would be too easy we're going to up the ante by shooting you with concentrated DNA rewriting, latex-forming rays from the little sentry gun that will be appearing right about... now."

The rat gulped slightly as what looked like an alien ray gun came down from the ceiling and pointed itself straight at him. "The gun will turn you into another creature slowly over the span of thirty seconds, and since we have a plethora of creatures to turn into I will give you ten seconds to decide what type of animal you want to change into, because I'm that nice of an AI." Argos boasted. "If you decide not to pick anything, or try to pick something that would obviously break the spirit of the game, then the ray will automatically be set to the default setting of lizardman. Your ten seconds starts now."

As a timer appeared on the screen and began to count down Quix quickly looked at the locks that bound his wrists. They were pretty standard padlocks, if he had any type of pick implement then he could easily scratch the tumblers and get out of there. With just his wits and his clothes though it was going to be near impossible, and he doubted that he was strong enough to break the locks or the chains. With only five seconds to go his mind raced on anything that could possibly help him with the task at hand, and when the clock ticked down to three seconds he knew he had to either choose now or be given the default species, which probably would not have been that helpful...

"Falcon!" Quix cried out as the last second of time disappeared from the clock, the AI dragon giving him a nod in reply.

"Alright, hope you're ready for something of the avian persuasion." Argos said as a new timer appeared on the clock. "You now have thirty seconds to unlock all four chains, only with all four locks undone will the transformation cease and you can move onto the new round. Your time starts... now."

As soon as the last words left the dragon's mouth a beam of blue light shot out of the gun, Quix instinctively putting up his arms to try and block it. As he did so a strange tingling sensation swept up his arms as the fur on his hands and forearms began to thicken and turn shiny. The feeling sank down into his skin as the rubberized fur congealed into a different pattern, the individual strands wove and merged together until a layer of long feathers covered his arms. At first he feared that the appendages were about to turn into a pair of wings that would render his plan useless, but much to his relief he felt his fingers remain as sharp talons grew from his normally stubby fingers as small feathers began to coat them.

"Here goes nothing." Quix said as he closed his eyes and pulled one of the longer feathers from the rapidly expanding patch on his arm. To his surprise it didn't hurt, and as he plucked a second one he could already see a new feather grow in the spot and replace the one he had taken. Once he had gotten them out he tested the tips of them, thankful that even though they were made of rubber they were still ridged and he used his teeth to file them down. With twenty seconds left on the clock he sharpened them down to workable points, especially as the light of the beam hit his face and his blunt muzzle thickened and hardened into a sharp beak.

To his surprise the implements worked out rather well, with his skills as a thief he had the first lock popped open in no time at all. As soon as the metal fell away the whole chain and cuff dissolved into silver dust, though Quix could only regard it for a second as he turned to work on his other arm. By now there was only fifteen seconds left and his head had completely transformed, his breathing slightly ragged as a warm pleasure emanated from his transformed flesh. He could feel the rubbery feathers press against his equally synthetic skin, which caused him to become even more aroused as the fur on his chest was converted. As the muscles underneath began to expand he began to wonder why he would even fight such a great change... though he quickly shook his head of the thought and continued his work.

By the time he had started on his third lock he only had ten seconds left, and as he exposed his back to the light of the gun he realized it was an error in judgment. He felt the energy course through his backside his tail stiffened, what looked like several more tails burst forth from the top of his rear before they fluffed out into a very large set of tail-feathers. His breath grew ragged as he felt his lust continue to rise, his eyes became unfocused as he slid the implements into the lock in order to break the third lock. With some embarrassment he felt his groin begin to stir, especially as the smaller feathers began to overtake his lower abdomen.

"So... close..." he grunted as he heard the satisfying click of the lock opening, which freed his ankle with seven seconds to go. By now the feathers had spread down to his thighs, the rat looked mostly like a falcon now aside from his furry calves and feet, and even then his toes had begun to thicken and turn a rubbery yellow. There was only one chain left between he and freedom, though with their use his feather-picks had lost a lot of their form. He put them back in his beak and tried to sharpen them again, the now-familiar taste of rubber in his mouth as he put a point back on them.

He heard the computer announce five seconds left as was forced to sit down and put his transformed leg in the air. His body had become completely avian by this time, which meant that the only thing that was left was his mind. He could feel the tendrils of foreign thought wormed its way into his mind. All he wanted to do was fly... and it was interfering with his ability to pick. His breathing quicken as his thoughts turned to more and more alien desires, including his throbbing tool that bobbed in front of his face.

"Three seconds remaining." The computer called out as Quix felt the lock begin to turn. He was so close, all he had to do was turn it a little bit more and he would be free...

A sudden and satisfying click could be heard through the room as he saw the padlock pop free, the last chain dissolving into dust as the transformation on his mind stopped. As he sat there and caught his breath he could feel the physical changes recede as well, the rubbery feathers replaced with his normal fur as the synthetic material crumbled away into the ground. When he stood back up and faced the viewscreen he was a rat once more, save for one little detail...

"Argos!" Quix shouted at the screen, which still displayed the two seconds of time he had left. "I still have wings!"

Suddenly the silver dragon appeared on the screen once more with a grin on his face. "I thought you might like a souvenir of your first accomplishment." The AI said as he threw a handful of virtual confetti in the air. "I guess you're going to have to get used to people calling you 'pigeon' from now on. Get it? Cause you're a rat with wings... ah, humor is wasted on the stupid. Anyway, congratulations on completing the escape portion of the Survival challenge, please exit through the door on your right as promptly as possible to avoid disqualification."

The metal door promptly opened as the dragon disappeared once more, Quix carefully moved his way towards the now open threshold in case there were any other types of traps prepared for him. A sudden beeping noise on the collar wrapped around his next gave him a newfound sense of urgency, however, and he quickly darted through the door which promptly closed behind him.

*********************************************************

Daniel groaned as his eyes opened, he braced himself on the cold stone floor as he slowly got to his feet. At first he thought his vision was still swimming from the drugs in his system, but as his senses continued to return he realized that it was something else that swam instead. He was surrounded by water that was illuminated from some unseen source, the only dry area in the surrounding area was the twenty foot meter wide half-sphere that he stood in the middle of. Also with him was a pile of what looked like diving gear, complete with air tank. At first he tried to use his TK ability to just levitate out of the water, but as he tried to muster the power he felt a slight electric tingle that came from a silver collar that he saw around his neck in the water's reflection.

Instead he tried to go for the diving equipment, but before he could approach it though one side of the sphere lit up like a television screen and a silver dragon head appeared on the screen. "Welcome to the competition Daniel, my name is Argos." The dragon said with a smirk. "Ignore the sinking feeling, you're at the bottom of a natural tide pool. For the purpose of this contest you will find that your telekinetic abilities will be quite hampered to even the playing field, so I would suggest that you concentrate on me instead. You'll have ten seconds to put on as much gear as you'd like, though the more of a handicap you use the faster you're going to have to reach the surface. But don't take nothing and flounder, if you fail to make it to the surface in thirty seconds you'll be in very deep water as well as disqualified. It's time to sink or swim, your time starts now."

The mewthree rushed over to the pile as the silver dragon head was replaced with a timer that started at ten seconds and began to count down. He ignored the air tank completely, with only thirty seconds he could certainly hold his breath long enough to avoid needing that. He did decide on the flippers and fin gloves, they would greatly increase his speed. The wetsuit would not be feasible, he thought as he discarded it, though he did put on the goggles in case the water was particularly salty.

Before he had a chance to put them on though the last milliseconds of the clock ran out, Daniel had enough time to take deep breath as the water rushed in towards him. He was knocked off his feet as the weight of the water crashed into him. There was little time for him to recover, no sooner had the last of the air escape the bubble then another time appeared right in the left of his goggles. Almost immediately he kicked his powerful legs towards the surface, leaving the bottom of the sea in his wake as the timer clicked down.

The water was warmer than the mewthree expected as he made his way to the surface, his speed greatly augmented by the fins he wore. With twenty two seconds left on the clock he could already see a light that he assumed was above the surface of the water, but as he made his way past a small outcropping he suddenly found himself unable to kick properly. He looked down and saw why; his mouth opened slightly in surprise as he saw the flesh of his inner thighs begin to stitch together and his rubber funs had melded together at the ankle. There was nothing he could do about it now, with eighteen seconds left on the clock he continued to make his way to the surface of the water.

When the clock hit fifteen seconds Daniel began to feel a secondary effect of the transformative waters, his sensitive member sliding out into the eddy of water that rushed passed his body as he continued to try and swim as best he could. By now the rubber of his conjoined feet had subsumed his legs all the way up passed the ankle while the material of the fins had reached down to his elbows. Even though he couldn't see it a similar reaction was happening to his face, the latex covered the tiny scales of his face and began to flow down his neck. He let out a sudden gasp as he felt the stale air he had held in his lungs suddenly exhale out of slits that had formed when the black material covered his neck.

I just have to power through this... Daniel thought to himself as he tried to use his new tailfin to propel himself to his escape. But as the seconds ticked by he found himself more and more inclined to just enjoy the swim. It was a strange thought process and as he focused on what was happening to his head he realized that the rubber that wrapped around his head had begun to push into his skull. The only thing that was left unaffected was his eyes and even those were in trouble as the shape of his head began to flatten out into a more shark-like visage.

There was only ten seconds left as the black rubber scaled shark began to falter, having to rely more heavily on his tail as his arms began to shrank and alter into true fins. The foreign instincts pushed at him even harder, but his drive kept him focused on the light as he ignored his newly formed base urges and continued to pump his muscles towards the shimmering surface. At that point he heard a voice, whether his own or the computer's he was too focused and horny to tell, begin to count the numbers down. Nine... eight... he could see shapes on the other side of the mirror-like top of the water... seven... six... he gave a few more 'kicks' as powerfully as he could in a desperate race to the surface... five...

The sudden transition from water to air caused him to gasp, the rubber that had engulfed his face immediately flaking off as it came in contact with it. He splashed back down in the water after his initial leap into the air, his newly created gills quickly closed before the goggles themselves fell apart and revealed his original face. The changes didn't just revert to the parts above the surface either, he breathed a thankful sigh of relief as he felt his legs separate and revert back down to their familiar strong, three toed configuration.

"Enjoy the swim?" Daniel heard as the form of Argos appeared next to a platform that the mewthree swam too. "Looks like you came out on top after all, congratulations. If you'll hop on out and dry wyourself off we can continue on with the next part of the competition. Also enjoy the little parting gift for you, compliments of the game."

"Wait, I-" before Daniel even had a chance to ask a question to the AI the dragon disappeared, the bulkhead door opening on its own accord. He hoisted himself onto the stone platform and found a towel to dry himself off, his erection subsiding back into his body as he felt his lustful urges lower significantly. As he got to his feet he realized something odd, that even though the rubber had been removed from his legs the webbing had remained, a finely scaled mesh of skin connected each of his toes. His fingers had undergone a similar fate, as he held him up to the light he examined the semi-transparent membranes a little more closely before he shrugged and discarded the towel to the side.

"I'm sure that I could use these later..." Daniel said as he walked through the door, which immediately closed shut behind him.

*************************************************

The next room was extremely dark as both contestants made their way from their escape chambers into another area. It was hard to do anything but slowly move forward, the only illumination was from track lighting that had been placed in the floor. Both Daniel and Quix suddenly found themselves staring at each other as the entire room lit up. "What on Earth..." Daniel said as they tried to reach out to the rat, only to find themselves separated by a pane of glass. "Wait, I remember you..."

"Oh good, perhaps we can skip out on the introductions then." Argos said as he suddenly appeared on a huge screen that bisected both of their sections of room. "Congrats on being the first two to make it this far to the first Survival of the Fittest head-to-head challenge. There will be a few different types of them, testing everything from physical prowess to mental ability. I will now be selecting yours... hmmm... ah yes, my random generator has decided on just the one for the two of you."

A second pair of viewscreens appeared down below, one on Daniel's side and the other on Quix's side. "Now on each side of the room is two screens which will have the same image on it." Argos explained. "However, there will be nine subtle differences between the two, things added or removed or different details. The first person to get five of these discrepancies wins the match, simple right? Your game starts the second the pictures appear, and there is no time limit, the round will end when someone is eliminated. Good luck!"

Quix and Daniel looked at each other, then at the now-blank screen that the silver dragon once occupied. For a few seconds it was absolute silence, both the contestant's bodies were tense as they stared at the screen and waited for their challenge to start. Then the two heard a beeping noise, the screen suddenly lit up once more as large red numbers began to countdown from three. Both contestants leaned forward as the number one disappeared, followed immediately by a different picture. Both men were surprised when they saw that the picture was dominated by statues of various creatures, dozens of them and each different in their own way. There were so many features that Quix thought he would be overwhelmed, but as the rat looked back and forth he quickly saw an easily discernable discrepancy between two bronze lizardmen that he wanted to be quick to exploit.

Unfortunately as the difference was called out it was not in Quix's voice, but rather Daniel's as the mewthree pointed to the spot that Quix had seen only moments before. As the statue came to life and moved out of the frame of the picture a cold feeling permeated the rat's feet and lower legs. When he looked down he gasped as he saw that he had been turned to bronze all the way to just below his knees. He couldn't move them no matter how hard he tried, and he quickly realized his error in focusing on his transformation as Daniel called out yet another mistake. This time a ruby crystal statue moved off the screen, and as Quix watched a similar crystalline joined the bronze as it traveled up his legs to just below his groin, where despite the situation he found himself aroused at the sudden immobilization.

Daniel couldn't help but grin slightly as he took the lead in their challenge, the rat he was opposing already almost half petrified as he scanned the picture for yet more discrepancies. Unfortunately as he heard Quix call out a diamond naga with missing fangs that he had just started to look at he found that it would not be a shut-out, his feet and lower legs becoming transparent as they solidified into a clear crystal. The mewthree quickly saw why the rat thief was erect, the petrification process was oddly pleasurable as he resumed his focus on the picture itself.

Now that the easiest of the differences had been spotted it took a little more time for the two contestants to look through the picture for details that were slightly askew. It was still rather close, Daniel had managed to get the jump on Quix and score two points but the rat's latest find got him down to only one. Quix hoped that he could find another and tie up the round, but to his dismay the mewthree quickly pointed out that the gems in a silver statue of a gryphon near the back were emeralds on his side while they were rubies on Quix's picture.

The rat let out a low moan as the ruby studded bronze encapsulated his now-erect member, silver tracing added to the metal as it crept its way up to his abs until the metal covered him just below his pectorals. While everything from his chest down was frozen in place it wasn't cold, merely a cool sensation that caused him to absentmindedly rub a paw down his metal-coated stomach as he tried to maintain his focus on the pictures in front of him. He wasn't done yet, the thief said in his mind as the two continued their search, all he had to do was quickly find four and he could still win...

"The horns on the golden dragon on the left are different!" Daniel suddenly shouted, the picture shifting once more as the statue of the dragon gave a brief nod before he left his pedestal. Quix felt his heart drop as the petrification continued, what was left of his organic body shuddering as the cool liquid metal swept over his chest. It got up to his shoulders before it cascaded down over his arms and onto his newly-won wings, the feathery appendages tipped with golden filigree as his limbs were frozen into place. Unfortunately for him he had subconsciously began to play with himself before the metal reached his hands, a bit of embarrassment rising in the rat man as he found himself stuck in a rather lewd position.

At this point Daniel could feel his chest rise as he scored two more points against his opponent, which had been turned completely into a statue from the neck down. Only one more point would seal it, and as he looked through the remaining statues he realized that it would be harder then he thought as all they all looked almost exactly alike. Still, the mewthree kept his composure as the two continued to search, trying to maintain a level of focus even though the end was in sight.

But the next point was not Daniel's, as Quix figured out that the pedestal itself that a onyx gargoyle had a different base design in the two pictures the statue quickly flew off and the perch he had been on disappeared. The mewthree panted slightly as the black stone mixed in with the diamond that had covered his feet and shins, creating a rather stunning pattern as he felt his knees and thighs lock into place. He quickly tried to regain his focus on the pictures once the stone stopped just under his own groin, but he could feel his arousal begin to grow as he looked from statue to statue.

"Oh oh! The statue of the phoenix is missing a tailfeather!" Quix shouted excitedly, Daniel stunned as Quix got another point on him. After the marble phoenix flew off of the screen the mewthree felt a tremor of pleasure shoot up his spine as the scales of his groin and tail hardened into solid stone. The marble had mixed with the obsidian as it accented the diamond of his body, his blunt appendage frozen in mid wag as a small kernel of panic began to rise in his chest. Even though he was still in the lead the rat was now only a point behind, and which the pleasure of his transformation Daniel found it extremely hard to concentrate as Quix seemed to gain a second wind. All he needed to find was one though, Daniel tried to reassure himself as he scanned over a metallic-blue Minotaur that he believed was flawed in some way.

But once again it was Quix who had found the next mistake once again, which made three in a row as the silver werewolf let out a loud howl before it bounded off the stage. Daniel couldn't believe it as his transformation progressed up to where Quix had been a few minutes before, the silver filigreed into the stone as it rolled up his back and chest and down his arms. With one right after the other the mewthree was glad that he was stuck standing up, otherwise the waves of bliss that had accompanied the conversion process would have had him down on his knees as he made sure to keep his hands up in a more dignified position as they solidified.

"Oh my, what a turn of events." Both contestants suddenly heard as the screens went blank, replaced with the now familiar visage of the silver dragon as Argos looked at them from their respective screens. "At first I thought that our hybrid was going to have a run of the game, but it looks like the rat has scurried his way to a tie. It looks like the last point wins, so I've altered the picture a bit. It's just one statue with a singular flaw in between the two pictures. Naturally the first to find the flaw wins, good luck."

Unlike the beginning there was no countdown this time, as soon as the AI disappeared it was replaced with a statue of an obsidian demonic dragon with glowing red eyes, posed in mid combat with two rather nasty looking daggertail whips in each hand. Both contestants said nothing as they began to search the picture, looking for the tiny difference between the two pictures of the statue. There were so many details, everything from the individual tips on the chains of the dagger to the markings on the dragon's body... it seemed almost impossible.

The two had no concept of time as Daniel and Quix arched their heads back and forth, scanning over each and every detail... until finally, it was spotted... one of the horns had been twisted in a direction opposite to the other. It was tiny, but it had to be it... and that was what Daniel shouted out.

"No!" Quix shouted out before he felt his jaw stiffen, having noticed the same flaw mere seconds after the mewthree had announced it. The metal crept up his jaw and over the back of his head as the mewthree quickly found his own body able to move again, though a subtle trace of the patterning had remained on his black scales. He was able to watch as the last of the rat's fur was consumed by the transformation, though curiously his eyes were still unaffected as once more Argos appeared on the screen clapping his hands.

"Well well, it appears we have our first victor in the head to head challenge." The AI announced. "Congrats Daniel, you will be moving on." The mewthree began to walk towards the door that had opened on his side of the room, but before he took his first step Argos quickly stopped him. "Ah ah, not quite yet. I have a question for you first."

"A question?" Daniel replied, slightly confused. "Another part of the challenge?"

"In a matter of speaking, though it will not affect your victory." Argos replied. "You now have a choice as the winner. You can either let Quix continue to compete, though at a slight disadvantage, or you can end his run right now and disqualify him from the competition. I leave his fate in your... strange hands."

Daniel stopped and paused, looking back at the statue that was Quix. It was a tough decision, though they had been in opposition the rat had not performed dishonorably, but if he did let him go then there was a chance that he could come back and beat him later...

Daniel quirked a thick eyebrow at the proposition that had been presented out of the blue, and gave a quick glance to the individual he'd been pit against. He'd never really considered himself any sort of a cut-throat asshole type. Competitive, sure, and this was a competition, so he'd been gunning to win. But for right now, right this specific second, he'd gotten it. The round was his. And his opponent hadn't been acting like the sort of dipshit who deserved to have their faces rubbed off by the loss. So....meh.

"Might come back to bite me," the mewthree replied, "But sure, give'm another shot. Seemed like he was holding back a bit this time around. If he and I go at things again it'd be more of a competition if he really gave it his all. I've got a bit of morality to this sort of thing."

Argos's muzzle turned up in a bit of a smirk at the response. "Well, now noble of you, certainly unexpected." He said with a small nod. "Very well, you can go on now, the next phase of competition is waiting for you. I can only hope that your generosity comes back to you in the future, wouldn't want that sort of thing to haunt you."

Once Daniel had left Argos turned to the frozen statue of the rat, his smirk widening even more. "Well then, looks like your opponent took mercy on you." The silver dragon said as the rat's eyes shifted to the screen. "It's too bad that it doesn't matter at this stage."

Quix could only widen his eyes before the metal crept over the edges of them, which turned them a solid bronze color. Once the transformation was complete the statue of the rat was surrounded by a glowing light, which made the statue disappear and left the room completely empty as the lights switched off once more.
