Squirming gently, Rufus turned into the warm embrace pressed up against him, sliding with ease into the welcoming arms that folded around him. Soft hands teased across his belly, stroking his short fur as his nose shuffled and his whiskers twitched. His dream shifted from food to a field, the rich scent of fresh straw filled his nose, the warmth of the sun played over his fur. Then with a start he jerked awake as a paw closed around the few inches of rat cock poking free from his sheath due to morning wood. He tensed jerking upright, scattering straw before freezing in place as his brain recognised the other's scent and he shivered slightly and pushed back against Russet, grinding his tail against his fellow rodent's morning wood in turn.
"You... are going to get stabbed one day doing this to me," he squeaked softly as Russet's red furred head slid over his shoulder, pink tongue licking out at his whiskers.
"Maybe, but you squeak in such a delightful way..." Russet purred, fingers stroking Rufus' length, "So... can we... before we go down into this dungeon?"
Squirming slightly, pressing his hips up against the warm paw teasing him the rat snorted as a piece of straw tickled his nose. "No... not whilst we're on a job"
"I guess you're right," Russet sighed, releasing Rufus' cock and sitting up, rubbing sleep from his red eyes before pushing his way out of their little nest of straw. He crawled on all fours to the faint outline his night vision could just make out of their lantern. There was a brief spark from the built in flint and the oil soaked wick caught, brightening the dark cellar room with it's warm, cheerful orange glow. Rufus shuffled out of the straw, clutching a large handful in both hands to cover his crotch and hurried toward where he had left his clothes to dry out. Russet watched him scamper off and shook his head before digging their belongings out of the makeshift nest and to see if they had anything they could possible consider breakfast.
"What..." Rufus squeaked, staring at the empty rock then rounded on Russet, whiskers bristling, "This isn't funny Russ, give me my clothes back!"
"What..." the red furred rat looked up, eyes flaring in the lantern light, "I've not touched them... they are all... right...." he jumped up, hurrying over to look at the empty rocks, still wet from where their clothes had been and their wet fur had left pools on the stones. "Where..."
Rufus hunted around the room, poking in corners, squeaking in alarm, he even tried to pull up the trapdoor and staggered as it swung up easily. Russet joined him as they stared down into the shallow stone pit that contained nothing but dust. "This is mad, did someone seriously sneak in here and steal our clothes? Or is this some after-effect from that mage and his teleport spell or some other mage nonsense?"
"I... uhm... lets look outside OK?"
Rufus nodded and hurried to the door, bits of straw slipping from his grasp with each step and as he stepped out onto the landing he stumbled and stared in bewilderment at the stairs leading down. "Russet, the lamp, quickly," he squeaked and moved aside as Russet rushed over and illuminated the tight spiral stairs leading down.
"How..." Russet ran back into the room they had slept in, searching hurriedly for another way out, he soon came back and stood besides Rufus looking as bewildered as Rufus felt.
"What.. is going on?" Rufus muttered as the white and brown rat wandered back into the cellar chamber and sat in the straw, pulling it over his lap, "Where is the way out?"
Russet paced the room, red fur ruffled still from sleep, tail sliding over the flagstones until with a disgruntled squeak he walked over to stand next to Rufus. "This is all wrong... I guess our only choice is to go down."
"Down!? We're naked in a dungeon. We can't go down; that's risky, there is no guarantee there is a way out down there. I doubt there is going to be another mage with a teleport scroll to get us out" Rufus hissed, squirming in the pile of straw uncomfortably as Russet turned to regard him then squatted down.
"We haven't got much choice, no one knows we are down here, we've got no real food and one water bottle between us. We have to go down, we've got our weapons, we will just have to be extra cautious."
Squeaking softly Rufus slowly stood up and nodded at his partner, "I don't like this, something really stinks about this whole set up," he then pulled two wrist sheaths out of the straw and carefully buckled them about his wrists. They were simple tools that allowed him to hook out his throwing knives with his claws, they looked odd worn openly and not tucked beneath his clothes, but no more unusual than Russet's heavy belt strapped about his waist on it's own.
"I don't like it either, and as much as I enjoy seeing your booty swinging free, I don't enjoy being forced into a trap-laden dungeon nude." gathering up the lantern he then started to cautiously descend the stairs.
They wound down deeper into the earth, each step smooth, unadorned granite, the walls plain and as the rats moved they took each step with great care. Russet examined every inch of the pitted stone work, despite how old and worn these stairs where he continued to check the joints and walls for any hint of hidden mechanism or trap. It was slow work and they were both cold by the time they reached the bottom. Shivering slightly and holding his paws against the lantern Russet stared at the door blocking their path and sighed.
"All my picks were in my hoodie," the red rat muttered as he crouched before the door and peered into the lock, "Did you have yours on you?"
Rufus replied by crouching beside Russet, furless fingers retrieving a set of rings and rods from his pouch, his white body pressed closely against his fellow rodent's as he examined the lock. "You want to do it or should I?"
"You do it, I'll hold the light," true to his words Russet lifted the lantern up and angled it so Rufus had a clear view of the locks. Muttering quietly the hooded rat fitted one of the rings over the tip of his tail and poked it into the lock. Sticking his tongue out Rufus worked on the lock, large pink ears twitching as he listened for the click and clack of the tumblers inside the lock, switching picks after a few moments and trying again.
"You should do this Russ, it's what you're best at... I can't get it."
"You can, it's about time you practiced these skills in a real life situation," Russet squeaked, pressing a paw to Rufus' back and pressing his nose against his friends neck fur, "You've been practicing with these very picks, listen and you'll do get... use your ears."
Muttering softly Rufus continued to manipulate the picks, closing his eyes and pricking his ears forward as he listened to the click clack click of the tumblers moving. His knees where aching from holding so still when a loud snap heralded the locking mechanism releasing and the door swung open. The sudden shift pitched Rufus forward through the door with a yelp and as he scrambled back to his feet there was a loud hiss and a bright spark of white fire. Squinting against the sudden glare of phosphorus Rufus focussed beyond the light at the trail of dark powder running across the floor. Cursing the rat rolled up onto his knees, curled a finger on his left hand, hooking his claw through the loop at the end of one of his knives and with a practised flip of his wrist threw the blade at the trail of powder ahead of the moving spark.
The flat, triangular knife hit the stone with a sharp chink but the flame continued to advanced, he'd missed and as Rufus leapt to his feet the flame split in two, the trail of gunpowder moving in two different directions, curving back toward the door.
"Russet move, it's a trap!" As Russet darted past him Rufus sprang up onto his feet, hooked two more knives out of his wrist sheaths and flung first one, then the other, pivoting on one foot to fling them in separate directions. The ringing sound of metal on metal filled the air, accompanied by two puffs of dust as the thin, razor sharp blades scattered the careful laid trail of gunpowder.
The white rat held his breath, body tense and ready to run as he watched the sparking white flames. First one then the other snuffed out and with an explosive sigh of relief the rat slumped to the floor, "Damn, that was close..." he squeaked, relief at not exploding draining the adrenaline out of his system as he glanced toward Russet as his partner walked over. He ruffled Rufus' thick brown hair and squatted down next to him to examine the set up. "That was very sneaky, it was set up so the door opening would cause a spark," he moved the door back and forth causing the tiny piece of flint to spark and spin on the rough granite flagstones, kicking up bright sparks, "I can't see anyway not to set this off, how would someone get down here normally?".
"Well... that old geezer warned us there were traps and the place was in ruins, maybe he used to have a secret way down that didn't come this way?" Rufus muttered as he moved to pick up his throwing knives, and frowned as he searched for the first one he'd thrown, "Damn it, there is a drain here," he crouched and peered through the grate and sighed, "Well that is a huge pain." he tucked the two he had left back into their sheaths and walked back over to Russet who was examining the hall ahead of them.
"I think... we had best go cautiously..." the thief whispered, shuffling forward a few steps, holding the lantern higher, illuminating the long, empty, beautifully adorned hall stretching out before them. It was maybe three hundred yards long, the floor was one big mosaic pattern of fist-sized tiles. The walls were a mixture large, beautifully carved pillars and big, solid-looking marble panels worked with odd designs. It was impressive, the ceiling was lost in gloom but there were hints of vaulted buttresses and more carvings and the whole thing was empty, there were no visible impediments to them walking forward to reach the other side.
"Yeah... I think you're right this looks way too easy, I'll follow you," Rufus started to run a single knife back and forth across his knuckles as he followed Russet's slow, methodical progress down the length of the hall, ready to react at a moments notice if anything seemed amiss. After a few metres of movement Russet knelt down and peered intently at the floor, a band of alternating purple and green tiles maybe three metres deep lay ahead of them. It looked like the floor they had been walking on to Rufus, just a different pattern of colours but the ginger rat had clearly seen something. Leaning back he took his dagger and tapped a purple floor tile with the tip . There was a faint hiss and something small zipped through the air at about chest height just in front of Russet before clattering to the floor.
"Poison dart trap... traditional but... ah," he reached out carefully and tapped one of the green tiles and the same thing happened again, "This whole segment of floor is set up to trigger the trap." he shook his head in admiration, "It's quite clever, just enough hints to make you confidence you've found the trigger, you step out onto a "safe" tile and it gets you...."
"Ok... so how do we get past it? I can't jump over that much floor and neither can you."
"Let me look, here carry the light," Russet handed the lantern up to Rufus then moved sideways on all fours, pale pink hands and feet padding silently across the tiles as he searched for some sign or the other. He reached the wall and grinned, standing up suddenly he stepped forward, clambering up on all fours to balance carefully on the wide plinth at the bottom of one of the pillars. "Follow me Rufus, we need to clamber over this way, just be careful, the holes that fire the darts are right here, you step on the tiles and you'll be full of darts and I doubt the poison whoever built this used will be weak."
Putting his throwing knives away and taking the lantern over from his friend, Rufus followed the other rat. The marble was cold against his bare feet and fur as Rufus crawled along on all fours. There wasn't much space and Russet's tail was draped over his back whilst his muzzle was inches from Russet's ass. He had to shuffle from one foot to the other, hugging the freezing stone, following his partner's movements exactly. One.. two.. three pillars had to be crossed, the raised marble forming a walkway over the trapped area of floor. Russet jumped down to the floor well beyond where the purple and green tiles changed to solid bands of ochre.
"Ok that was.. unpleasant, please tell me they aren't all like that?"
"Probably not, each trap will be different, take this one for example...." Russet gestured at the bath in front of them, "See the big wide open blocks of marble with the stripes of colour separating them. Pit trap... how do you think we get past them?"
Rufus frowned, peering forward through the darkness, sliding his tail around his ankles to try and ward off the chill permeating the floor. "We walk along the small bands of colour right? The big panels will open up and drop us into the pits, you can see the join where the doors are held together?"
Russet shook his head, "Wrong... that is what you are meant to think, it is more likely..." he took a small stone out of his pouch and tossed it so it landed on one of the bordering strips of stone. The floor clunked open horizontally, not vertically... the bands of coloured stone Rufus had thought were safe part of the trap door. The floor on either side of the pit remained solid and stable right along the line Rufus had suggested as being the opening of the separate, smaller trap doors.
"See.. most people would think like you did, that it was three trapdoors with the safe bordering lines separating them and the big panels would drop open." the red rat leant forward, peering down into the pit and shuddered, "I dread to think what is down there... so... come on," he led the way to the edge of the pit and carefully walked out onto the remaining panel and soon enough they were on the far side of the pit and safe.
Rufus squeaked as he looked from side to side and made as if to walk forward but Russet suddenly grabbed his tail. "Don't... something is... not right," whiskers twitching the red rat leant forward slightly, sniffing the air... paws moving up and down Rufus' tail absently as he concentrated on the air before him. Rufus was left squirming, well aware just how naked he was and now denied the relief of his tail. He didn't interrupt his partner, he had a knack for tricks and traps and sometimes seemed to sense things others would miss. It was why the guild teamed them up. Rufus' skill with projectile weapons complimented Russet's uncanny sixth sense. The guild had taken them, trained them and slowly encouraged them to be more than just partners. Now they were a rat duo who had made a name for themselves in the guild for bringing in the best loot by being able to anticipate each others' actions and accept without question the instincts of the other.
Russet dipped a paw in one of his numerous belt pouches, the leather bulged as his fingers closed around something and when he drew it back out it was balled into a fist. Raising it to his mouth he unfurled his fingers and puffed out a sharp breath of air, scattering the silvery dust gathered on his palm. Under the lantern light it glistened softly, floating gently through the air as a sparkling cloud then it hit something, seeming to wrap about a thin line in the air. As the dust moved more of the thin, invisible lines were made visible until a patch of intricate wires sparkled in mid-air with dust clinging to them.
"I never understand how you can sense those things," Rufus murmured, taking his tail back and looping it around his waist, "Now what?"
"I just have a sense for them, just like how you can bank those knives of yours around corners. I could never do that... as for what we do next." He frowned, the dark red rodent walking sideways toward the opposite wall. "We can't cut them, they're designed to trip the trap if their tension breaks. So we need to get into the mechanism and disable it."
"Ok, lead on," Rufus said warmly, feeling a bit better now he had his tail wrapped about his waist like a long, pink kilt, he had to hold it in place with one hand but it was better than exposing everything. It was bad enough he could feel everything swaying free with each step he took. Russ paused as he was about to walk off and moved back over to put his paws on Rufus' tail.
"Stop with the hiding behind your tail Rufus, you need to focus on everything around us not the fact these are hanging out," one of his paws slipped through the coils of the other rat's tail and squeezed his balls. "Yes you're naked, fine... so am I, but if you keep trying to hide the fact you'll miss something and that could be a disaster."
Squirming slightly the white rat looked down at his tail and with a soft squeak let it slide back down to the floor and sway out behind him. "Ok... sorry just you know..."
"I know, but it's ok I doubt anyone is down here to see either of us." Russet squeezed Rufus' arm then turned and walked all the way over to the wall.
Rufus watched his butt swaying and grinned as he blew more dust into the air, he really was a great thief. Rufus also got a very good view of Russet's sheath and balls as he walked back, he wished he could stride about nude with such confidence. Licking his front incisors he tilted his head in query as Russet drew level with him again and murmured, "No luck?"
"Wrong end, the wires are just attached to the wall at that end, stay here," Russet said as he walked past and started to examine the other wall.
Rufus squatted down on his heels and waited, looking around the hall, they had come far enough now that the lamp light no longer illuminated the stairs. "Any more ideas about what we've walked into?"
"Something weird, I can believe we tripped a trap or an illusion on our way down, but our clothes vanishing makes no sense..." Russet answered as he dug away at the wall with his dagger, the red? grunted as his blade slid into a gap in the wall, "Got it!" He threw his weight behind his arm and heaved, struggling to lever open the hidden panel he'd found. Rufus was about to offer to help when the stone suddenly snapped open, banging open as if it has been spring loaded. It might have been but that wasn't important, the stone panel jarred Russet with enough force he almost fell forward into the trap be was trying to disarm. Rufus' breath caught as his partner teetered on the brink of falling forward. At the last minute Russet was able to twist his body to the side and grab the panel he'd just opened and pull himself back from the brink of disaster. He had to let go of his dagger to do so however and the heavy blade hit the floor, bounced and rolled backwards. There was a clank as the pit trap fell open and Russet's dagger plummeted into the depths.
"Well fuck," the rogue growled before reaching into the wall to tear out some mechanism. The effect was instantaneous, the hall in front of them lit up with a roar of flame, incinerating the wires criss-crossing the hall and blasting both rats with a wave of warm, dry heat. The torrent of flame lasted a good minute before dying down, the stone floor ahead now warped and buckled from the heat, stone pinging and cracking softly as it cooled.
"You alright?" Rufus asked, standing up and walking over to Russet who was peering down into the pit as the floor started to swing shut behind them.
"Yeah, but that was careless of me, I thought it'd swing the other way."
Shrugging and showing his incisors in a soft grin Rufus wrapped an arm around Russet's shoulders and turned him away from the pit, "It happens, I'm still armed so lets get out of here. Look," he pointed ahead, "The door is past this bit, I saw it when it was all lit up."
Sighing heavily, Russet turned away from the pit and led the way across the four blasted stones, the cooling rock a welcome change against their bare foot paws. "You got me that dagger when we graduated," he said as he stopped to check the exit.
"I'll get you another one," Rufus replied as he followed Russet into the tunnel beyond, "And you never know; we might find it."
"Yeah maybe... ah..." Russet shaded his eyes as the archway ahead suddenly lit up as they approached. Cautiously approaching the doorway, they peered into the next room. It was a bare cube of stone, six feet wide with a stone table in the middle and glowing white spheres recessed in the walls. Walking up to the table, they glanced briefly at the plaque set in the front that had the word "Reward" carved into it deeply then examined what was waiting for them in more detail.
"What on earth..." Rufus muttered, picking up one of the piles of sleek, slinky material that was pooled across the top of the table. The red material was beautifully smooth, glistening under the soft lights and as the rat gripped the waistband he spread the strange material wide revealing that they were shorts. "Clothing, ha it's clothing," without hesitating Rufus darted forward. He might have agreed to stop trying to cover up with his hands and tail but with real, honest to god clothing right in front of him Rufus didn't hesitate to slip first one foot then the other through the shorts and pulled them up over his rump and tucked his rat goods away as he let the waistband snap into place.
"Rufus!" Russet exclaimed in shock, reaching out to grasp the waistband of the smooth red shorts, "What are you doing, they could he cursed or anything."
"Nonsense," Rufus said with a big grin, stretching his arms behind his back, tail swaying back and forth as he fed his tail through the appropriate hole in the back. "It's clothing and it feels good..." for a moment his eyes clouded and he shivered as the shorts squeaked gently, the latex fabric moulding itself to his butt, defining the bulge of his cock and balls, "Put yours on Russet, it's better than being naked."
"Uhm... no I don't think I shou..." he was cut off as Rufus slipped forward and kissed him passionately, Russet trembled for a moment, he could feel those sleek, shiny shorts grinding up against his crotch, they were distracting. Rufus also had his tongue down the his throat and with a passionate squeak Russet sank into the white and brown rat's embrace, grinding his crotch against those smooth shorts. Squeaking in delight Russet obediently lifted first one leg then the other, stepping into the pool of lycra lying on the floor. He felt a moment of confusion as he tried to work out how the shorts had wound up on the floor, perfectly arranged for him to step into. The thought died as Rufus sank to his knees, his whiskers brushed against the soft, warm flesh of Russet's cock before his lips wrapped about his cock tip in a teasing kiss. Rufus didn't stay in place long, a short teasing suck, the trailing touch of a pink tongue and he took his mouth away so he could pull the tight, lycra shorts up Russet's legs and help to tuck him in. The shorts felt so good, the fabric moulded itself to his butt, framed his nuts and cock and then Rufus was back in his arms. They started kissing again, grinding their lycra clad bulges against each other, shiny fabric squeaking softly. Pulling back slowly, breath coming rapidly, ears flushed and smiles plastered over their muzzles the rat stepped back to admire each other's latex and lycra clad forms.
"Man... that was hot heh..." Rufus murmured in delight, swishing his tail back and forth, one hand stroking the smooth fabric of his new clothing, passing over the tight bulge his hard cock made against the shiny material, "What do you think Russ?"
"I think," Russ drawled slowly, eyes passing up and down his fellow rodents body, "That you look hot," Russ started to play a hand over his own cock, he was as hard as Rufus and he slipped a hand inside, fingers teasing up and down the length of his shaft. He squeaked and turned his head slowly to look around the room then froze, "Well fuck....my belt is gone..." Russ pointed at the table and sighed, pulling his hand out of his shorts "I think we just got spelled."
"No... the lamp, my lockpicks..." Rufus rushed to the table and stared forlornly at the empty stone space. He then quickly tapped his wrists to check the sheaths holding his throwing knives were still there. "I... I put them on the table too, where did they go?"
Shaking his head Russ moved around the table and stood before the new door that had opened up, "I dunno... you dived into those shorts, kissed me and then it all.. got a bit.. you know" he squeezed his cock firmly through the fabric of his shorts and flicked his tail."
Moving up next to Russet the white rat stared at the door and shrugged, "Well we might as well go on... there isn't any going back." he rubbed a hand idly against his new shorts and shrugged, "Least they feel good."
"Yeah... that's something," Russ slapped Rufus on the ass and grinned, whiskers twitching as he showed off his incisors. "Come on, lets move out, we'll never get anything done if we don't try."
