January 16
Mt. Mitchell
The snow had been falling for the past few days. It was a colder winter than usual making the trip more hazardous than it should have been. Helena's mother needed her to come help with some family business, but the snow had made the trip up the mountain impossible for a few days. She was able to make it to the town at the foot of Mt. Mitchell before the weather hit full force. She could turn back or she could wait it out. Being a german shepherd, she was loyal to her family and a little weather would not stop her, just delay her.
Luckily, the hotel where she chose to stay the night was owned by an old school friend and he discounted her stay greatly. She stayed a few nights, but it was a bright sunny day when she woke up that morning. The road was salted and plowed. It seemed a good idea to attempt the trip the rest of the way to her mother's, but her car had other plans less than half way up the mountain.
Waiting in her car for an hour, she had hoped there would be someone drive by, but she was not that lucky. Combining that with the darkening clouds in the sky, she finally gave up the wait. Walking up the mountain would take half a day or more and would be tough. Going back down the mountain would be easier and wouldn't take as long but it would be a few hours at least. Just a couple hours back to the town and the hotel. In the trunk of her car, she pulled out a first aid blanket to help wrap herself up in to keep warm as she waked. It was thin, but it would give her another layer of protection over her winter jacket from the cold, and it was reflective grey in color so any headlights would see her on the road if the sky continued to darken.
A flash of lightning and the sound of thunder filled the air. She sighed, looked up at the clouds as they seemed to pick up in speed. She started her walk down the mountain road hoping it wouldn't snow, or worse rain, before she got to shelter. The thunder sounded repeatedly, almost in an interval as she walked down the mountain. She couldn't see the lightning each time, but she considered it was probably hidden by the mountain. But the thunder seemed to be getting louder and the sky was almost pitch black.
One lightning blast that lit up the entire area made the fur on her entire body raise, and the resulting thunder came so quick and loud that she was sure it was very close by. She looked at her watch. She had left her car almost an hour ago and she estimated another couple hours walk before she made it to the hotel again. Not paying attention to the road, the headlights of the semi caught her off guard as they rounded the curve ahead of her. She jumped back a little as the horn of the semi sounded at the same time she was flashed by the lights. When she landed, her footpaw slipped and she fell back, tumbling over the side of the road and she rolled down the cliff. Her blanket fell from her but she was able to stop herself on a very thin ledge, large enough for just the toes of her shoes to hold on to. If she moved her footpaws at all, she may slip down farther and over the edge below. The outside of her left thigh was burning a little and she could feel something running down the side of her leg. She felt her leg. It was hurting from the touch and was gooey with something fluid sticking to her fingers. She couldn't tell what it was in this light, but she smelled it. Blood. She was cut open and bleeding bad. Looking up, she couldn't see anything except the disappearing light of the semi as it continued up the mountain. Either the driver didn't see her or didn't care.
She yelled for help, hoping that someone might be around. Moments later, her left foot paw slipped, almost making her tumble down, but her right one kept her balance just enough. Her left footpaw was going to sleep, probably from lack of blood. She worried a lot. She had a husband 10 pups to take care of at home, as well as an elderly mother. Helena couldn't believe that she was going to die here. She was determined not to.
Feeling around for any kind of paw hold she could use to pull herself up, she found one. Then she found another with her other paw. They were small, but it was her only chance she thought. Hooking her paws on them, she pulled herself up the clif face a few feet. Then both pawholds broke free and she lost her balance.
She screamed as she rolled down the rest of the way over the cliff and into the darkness.
She woke to the sound of thunder nearby and she sat up fast. She howled as her fast movement reminded of how painful her leg was from the injury. There was movement outside of the tent. Tent. She was in a tent. She looked around. The tent was big enough for a few furs. She was laying on a large blowup matress and covered very warmly in some thick blankets.
The zipper sound at the front of the tent made her jump a bit. The flaps opened. The light of a fire filled the tent for a moment before a big silhouette of a bear came in to focus.
"Are you ok?" The huge bear's voice boomed into the tent with a great authority.
Helena was taken aback by the forceful nature of just his voice as well as his size. "I'm ok. I was startled by the thunder."
Fangs seemed to highlight themselves in the firelight as the bear smiled, but the rest of him seemed to hide in the shadows. "I have food and drink out here. Probably would be easier to come out to the fire to eat if you are hungry." He let the flaps go and walked away from the tent door. She could hear what sounded like aluminum camping cookwear being rustled around.
There was something about the bear and his presence. Something she couldn't quite place. And he had an accent she didn't recognize. All of it made her feel fearful, but not from him. It was clear in her mind that this bear could be trusted, but she didn't know why, and she was very hungry. As she removed the blankets, she found her leg had been bandaged. Though she was dirty all over from the fall, around the wound was clean. Her mother was a nurse and had taught Helena how to care for wounds like this. This bear had done a professional job. Perhaps he was a doctor. She saw her shoes next to where she was laying and slipped them on.
Not able to stand up fully in the tent, it was a little difficult to leave the tent, but she made it out without too much pain. A wave of cold filled around her from the breeze and she wrapped her paws around her. He noticed, grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around her fast. He moved so fast she almost didn't see him until he was standing above her looking down at her. He had to be close to eight feet tall. His white fur was course and short like her tawny fur, but it was warm from the fire, and looked blond in the light. She immediately because had not realized until then that her paw had slipped under his flannel button-up shirt and that it had grabbed ahold of some of his fur and was holding on to it.
He smiled down at her. "Come. Sit by the fire. I am making you a plate of food for you." She sat down on the log he pointed to, she notice that the bottom of his jeans were still damp up to the knees and he was shoeless, his thin footpaws walking through the snow comfortably. Moments later he gave her a plate of fish and vegetables along with utensils . "I hope you like this."
She looked up at him and nodded. "I do, thank you." She took the offered food and took a bite of the fish. It tasted fresh, like it had just been caught. It was very good. The look on her face showed how much she liked it.
His smile grew wider and he sighed contently as she ate. His fangs glinted in the light again, but she was again not threated by them. "Good." He turned to grab a plate of food for himself. "I caught these fish earlier today down at the river at the bottom of the mountain. It is good fishing here."
She nodded as she contined to eat. It may have been her extreme hunger, but not only was the fish delicious so were the vegetables. Before long she had eaten that plate and he offered her a second one, just as full as the first. She devoured half of that plate as well before she felt she couldn't eat more. He offered her more, but she had to politely refuse. He was not offended.
"Where are we?" She needed to try to figure out how to get to the town at the bottom of the mountain so she could call her mother. She was probably worried sick.
"Not too far from where you fell." He pointed behind the tent. "About 50 yards that direction.
She remembered the fall. "I fell off the cliff." She looked at her body. Nothing more damaged than what she could remember. "How did I survive?"
He smiled, "I caught you." Laughing he took another big bite of his fish, almost finished with his second plate. She grinned at him, realizing he was probably kidding. Swallowing he continued, "I heard you screaming and came to your rescue, my lady." He got up and grabbed another helping of food. "You fell unconscious before I could reach you, but you were still alive." He sat down and took another big bite, continuing to talk as he chewed. "I bandaged you and lay you to rest in my tent."
Helena nodded. It was still confusing to her how she survived the fall, but she was grateful that she wasn't hurt more. "Do you have a phone or a way we can get to the town? I need to call someone."
"I have no phone, and it is not wise to travel in your condition in this darkness."
Looking around she couldn't see too much farther out from the firelight. It would be dangerous, he was right. "Do you have a car?"
"No car. Tomorrow, when yon sun crests over the horizon, I will help you down the mountain to safety. Until then, feel free to enjoy my hospitality." A snapping twig from the woods around them made the bear stand fast. He slowly put down his food and reached into a nearby bag. He pulled out a big axe.
Helena stood slowly and walked back towards the tent. "What is it?"
"Tis my weapon, my lady."
"No, I mean in the woods."
"Not sure. Probably just a feral wanting some food or curious about the fire."
Looking at his face she could tell that he was lying for her protection. There was something else out there. Something that made her scared. It was the same thing that she could sense connected with him that made her fearful earlier.
A cold wind swept the area, almost putting out the fire. "My lady.... For your safety...get in the tent. NOW!" She stood her ground, dropping the blanket and she picked up a butcher knife from the box of utensils next to her and looked at him. He smiled slightly and nodded at her. The axe blade in the bear's paw seemed to catch the fire light and reflect it well. She noticed the back end of the axe was flared out a bit into a blunt surface, similar to a large hammer.
The most hideous growl came from the woods. It sent chills down her spine and made her fur stand on end. She trembled from the sound. It couldn't have come from a normal animal, this growl was unearthly. Cracking of limbs in the trees above and another hideous growl was the last thing she heard before she saw the creature highlighted in the firelight.
It was huge. Crouched down as it was in the tree, it was still easily six feet tall and looked like it could bench press a semi-truck. Its eyes were sunken dark black pools of nothingness, looking at them she could feel hate being directed back at her. The fangs of this creature shown through the darkness as if they were glowing in the dark without the light of the fire. The fur was dark in color and seemed matted in some places.
Jumping down from its perch, it bared long claws at the bear on the ground. It was met in the jaw by the blunt end of the axe. A flash of lightning flew across the sky and thunder resounded down the mountainside. The thing landed a few yards away in a heap. The bear took a battle stance in front of Helena. "Stay behind me, my lady."
She did not argue as the thing started to get up again.
"You have no busssinessss in my woodssss, bear." The thing hissed as it talked, the term "bear" was clearly accented as an insult.
"These are not your woods, creature. You are not to be here."
"I can go where I want and take what I want." It hissed again as it spoke, the words flowing from someplace other than its mouth because it's jaw wasn't moving at all. "You will not dictate where I may go."
"Dictate I shall and enforce the law I will." The bear swung his axe ahead of himself and he jumped at the creature. He landed in front of it and tried to cut the creatures head off, but it was too fast. It dodged, catching the bear in his own jaw with a right hooked punch. Before the bear could react, the creatures other paw came down slashing across his chest, ripping open the bear. He stumbled back breathless as the blood splashed out of him and onto the ground. The first paw made another movement and slashed the inside of the bear's thigh, causing him to fall to one knee.
"Been waiting for you to have a... disssstraction." It looked at Helena.
Grimacing, the bear pulled his hammer up fast, clipping the creature under the jaw. An audible crack echoed around the campsite. The creature stepped back as its head was pushed back. The bear felt something suddenly pressing down on his shoulder for leverage. He looked up and saw Helena jumping off of him, the knife raised above her head. As she came down, the knife plunged into the throat of the creature, her foot paws resting on its chest as it fell back. She rolled off of it, pulling the knife with her as it hit the ground. Spinning around, she raised the knife above her and brought it down into the eye of the creature. Its body shook on the ground, gurgling noises escaped from its open maw. Helena breathed heavy and let go of the knife as she watched the thing die.
"You're good, my lady." There was pain in his voice.
She looked at him kneeling on the ten feet in front of her. Hobbling over to him, she helped the big heavy up as best she could and over to the campsite. "Are there any more of those things?"
He shook his head. "No. It was the last one. I was sent here to find it."
"By who?"
"My father." He looked took off his shirt.
"Your father?"
"I need to take care of these wounds before I lose too much blood. I don't think you can carry me if I pass out." He chuckled as he pointed to a bag next to the tent. "Please, my bag."
She walked over to it and picked it up. It was a black bag with a name badge on it that read "Blake". Handing it over to him, he pulled out bandages and medical tap. She helped him to clean and dress his wounds. Once done, they both were tired.
"My tent is big enough for both of us and we can keep each other warm. It would be safer and healthier for us to sleep in there."
She looked at the ground. "I'm married and I have pups."
"Fear not, my lady. I won't take advantage of you." He motioned a paw to the tent. "If you would be more comfortable, I will sleep out here. I am from a land who's weather is similar to this one and I am comfortable."
"May I ask where that is?"
"A long way away from here."
"I see you are a polar bear, so you are from the colder climates to the north, but you don't seem to be from around there either."
"My lady... just know that I'm a friend and I will keep you safe as you rest."
She nodded and entered the tent. She lay down on the mattress again and covered up in the blankets from before. She could hear him lay down in the snow outside. She sighed and crawled as best she could to the tent flaps and looked outside at him. He had removed his shirt and his jeans and was only in some underwear. His back was turned to her, but he seemed comfortable enough. But something nagged at her. She had been raised to not put anyone out and she felt guilty to take the tent from this big bear even though he was comfortable in the cold weather.
"Blake?" She called out to him.
He rolled over enough to look at her. "Yes, my lady?"
"Why don't you come in here and get warm. I know you are probably comfortable enough out there, but you'd be better in here I bet."
"I'm fine. You don't have to worry about me."
"I'd just be more comfortable if you were out of the weather." He nodded at her. She crawled back into the tent and arranged the blankets on the mattress for the both of them to sleep. She heard him crawling into the tent behind her. He came over and lay down next to her with a grunt. She smiled at him. "Thank you."
"For coming in here?"
"For everything. You're a big sweet bear."
"Thank you." He rolled over the other direction, facing away from her. "Good night and sleep well, my lady."
She rested her head on the pillow and tried to go to sleep. For the first time, in this warm tent, she could smell his scent. She breathed deep. There was something about it. It almost smelled like the air of a clear cool night right after a rainstorm. She reached up to feel his fur in her paw. She shouldn't be doing this, but something was compelling her.
"My lady?" His head turned towards her direction.
Her paw pulled back. "I just wanted to feel your fur."
He rolled towards her a little again. "Do you like my fur?"
"Yes. I do. It's similar to mine, but it has something special about it. Do you condition it when you wash it?"
He chuckled, "No. I bathe in natural waters only. I use no soap or chemicals to clean."
"None?", her eyes went wide as she leaned in sniffed his scent on his arm. "None at all?"
"None. Just the natural water."
"WOW. You smell good for not using soap."
"I bathed shortly before I heard you scream. I usually do after I've caught my fish."
Her paw rubbed up and down his arm. "I see."
He rolled over onto his back, looking at her as she stared into his eyes. They were bluer than any blue she had ever seen before. The color was a good accent against his white fur. She smiled slightly, almost shyly, and turned away, looking down towards the tent opening. Her line of sight passed by the front of his underwear, which did very little to hide the growing stick inside. Her eyes went wide again. She had never seen one so big before, and never this close to one. Her gaze fixated on it.
"My lady?"
She was snapped out of her staring by his voice. "Yes. What?"
He grinned. "My lady, I'm sorry. Your touch is doing that to me. But have no fear, I have no intention to violate you."
She smiled warmly, her paw caressing his cheek. "You are so sweet." Completely intoxicated by this bear in front of her, she leaned in and kissed him deeply.
He didn't fight her or push her away. He let it happen.
Her paws rubbed across his chest and belly and his moved under her shirt to find the mounds on her chest and rub them. She moaned into his muzzle, their eyes meeting each other as they kissed. To her, his eyes seemed bluer and his fur whiter.
He rolled over towards her more, breaking the kiss to pull her shirt over her head. He leaned down, his tongue licking the nipples on the end of her breast. Her moaning told him to keep going. His muzzle opened wide, and he took her breast into his muzzle and licked all over it. She arched her back up at him as one of his paws worked its way into her pants, and between her legs. His large fingers quickly finding her wet patch, one of them worked inside her the others rubbing her clit. She shuddered from the pleasure under him as he worked on her. Her ears flattening on her head she submitted to his actions.
Looking at him, she could see every detail about him in full clarity. He was beautiful. The most beautiful bear she had ever seen. A god. And he was taking her to heaven. The wind outside had picked up and the lightning and thunder had returned.
Pulling his paw out, he moved down her body, kissing as he went, unfastened her pants and pulled them off along with her panties. He pulled her legs apart, leaned in, his tongue licking all around here opening then inside. She moaned as he did, she pushed her hips towards his muzzle as he buried it in her crotch. His tongue going inside her, licking all over the outside and inside that it could reach.
Helena had never felt these feelings before. Her paws grabbed his head and she held on to it. Not to control him, but to help herself feel grounded and stable. It was so intense that she could see then inside of the tent perfectly. Looking down at Blake eating her out, he seemed bathed in a bright light and each lap of his tongue seemed to send waves of electricity inside of her, gentle sparks finding the most intimate and sensitive parts of her pleasure, she yelped and moaned and she found it difficult to breathe.
He withdrew from her, crawling up her body, he pulled her up by her hips, moving his enormous hard cock in to position. "My lady", he breathed heavy, "do you want me to take you?"
Without hesitation she nodded. "Yes, Blake, take me, please, take me."
He pushed up at her, slowly pushing his cock into her. She yelped from the pressure and pain of the size of his cock, but she had to have it. When he seemed to stop, thinking he was hurting her too much, she pulled at his arms pressing herself down on his cock. He pushed in further. She yelped again, but smiled at him through her grimace. He kept on, pushing further in to her slowly, the entire eleven inches inside her. Helena shuddering and shaking on him, completely filled with his cock.
She pulled herself up to him and his muzzle down to meet her's, kissing him deep, their tongues caressing and massaging each other. She moved up and down the pole, gasping and whimpering happily the whole time.
The polar bear smiled wide and moaned out himself into her muzzle, feeling his desire taking over. He leaned over, putting her on the ground, thrusting into her, gaining speed and force as he did, rutting and growling as he did, breaking the kiss out of desperation to fill his mate, his muzzle growling above her and looking towards the back of the tent.
Helena lost in her own pleasure, she drifted off to a beautiful land she had never seen. Full of snow covered areas and forested woods connecting to it. The whole land teaming with creatures she had never seen before and some other polar bears hunting them and battling them. She could see lighting in the sky above her at the same time and hear the thunder as she flew above the battle. Then there was a sudden light filling the entire vision. It was a bright godlike light. It filled her with pleasure the likes she had never felt. It was warm and it filled her entire being. She felt love like she had never felt it before.
When she came back from the dream she looked around. The tent was dark. The fire outside had died down. The big polar bear was sleeping next to her, facing away. She looked down and felt around his backside a little. Underwear. She felt her own body. She was wearing her shirt and pants, but the crotch of her pants was extremely wet. She breathed a heavy sigh and rolled over. She smiled to herself at the festinating dream she just had. She just hoped that she was quiet enough that the bear didn't know what had happened.
The next morning, the sound of clanking woke her up. She was alone. "Blake?"
"Yes. I'm out here packing up, my lady."
She crawled out the tent, her leg stiff and in pain. A warm breeze had replaced the cold chill from last night and had began to melt the snow. She looked around the campsite. The body of the creature was gone. "Where is the body?"
"Body?" The bear stopped his packing and looked at her. "What body?"
"The creature we killed last night?"
"I don't know what you mean. Creature?" He stood there in front of her, his shirt unbuttoned and open. He was not bandaged, nor was he injured.
She moved over to him and rubbed his chest. He pulled back slightly from her paw and looked at her. "What happened to your chest?"
"My lady?"
"The slash marks."
"My lady, you were delirious last night when I rescued you because of your injuries and loss of blood." He started to pack up again, putting the last of his belongings into his pack. "I'm glad but surprised to see you up and walking already." She looked around the camp, lost in her head, remembering all that she had thought had happened. "I guess the little fish I was able to feed you last night helped more than I thought it would."
She nodded. A slight chill ran down her spine, but not from the weather. She was sure it all had been real. She looked at the bear. The feelings she had been feeling for him last night were still there, even if it had just been a dream. Her ears flattened in sadness.
"I was able to flag someone down on the road earlier while you were asleep. He is waiting at the road for us to get there and take us back to town. Do you think you could walk a little ways? If not, I can carry you."
"Yes." She was distracted and felt a bit empty at the loss of something that wasn't real. "I will be able to make it."
He picked up the few bags he had. "I'm sorry to ask... but would you be able to bring my kit?" He motioned towards the black bag from last night.
She picked it up. The same bag and the same name plate on the top. She must have seen it when he was doctoring her up.
They made their way slowly through the woods to the road. It took a while, but the guy was still there. His car was parked on the side of the road and he was talking to a policedog. Both the stranger, a tiger, and the policedog, a rottweiler, stepped into the woods to help them up an embankment to the road.
They took Helena to the hospital. Her husband, Sameal, her 10 pups, and her mother, Nellie, joined her the next day. They had been worried about her when she disappeared on the mountain and the police had found her abandoned car. The polar bear disappeared shortly after Helena's husband arrived. Nobody, even Helena ever thought to ask him for his whole name. She just knew him as Blake.
While at the hospital for a couple days, they found out that Helena was pregnant. It was recent, probably within the past week. Since she and Sameal had good sexual relations, there was no doubt that it was his.
Six months later, it was time for her new pup to be born. It was a boy. He came out, unusually covered in fur already. He was all white and had blue eyes. A marked difference from the rest of the tawny and black furred family with brown eyed german shepherds he had been born to. White german shepherds were not unheard of, but it was unusual for them to be born to a mother that was not white. The doctors surmised that somewhere in history of one or both of the parents had at least one while german shepherd as part of their ancestry.
Because of his coloration, Helena felt a foreign name seemed to fit her new pup, but no name she could think of seemed to fit well enough. However, as she looked on the internet for names, she ran across an article whose headline caught her eye. She used the translate feature and read the article. It was about Iceland and the unusually cold winter they just had. All the pictures were of the snow covered lands and the green trees intermixed around them. She switched back to the original article. She read the headline again. It was just four words. "Kalt Vetur á Íslandi". Translated, it read "Cold Winter in Island".
She chose the name for her new pup, and the name seemed to fit. He would be known as Kalt Vetur Wolfe.
A nurse checked in on the newborns in the nursery. All seemed well. As she exited she saw one of the doctors looking through the glass at all the babies in there. He was looking at the Wolfe pup. A tear in one of his eyes but a smile across his muzzle. "Doctor Blake? Are you ok?"
The polar bear looked at her, said nothing, and walked away.
