Food Chain: The Lost Chapter
A bit of explanation for this one, folks. After going back and reading my food chain story again, I noticed something very odd. It seemed that an entire chunk of the story had been missing, a chunk which I could have sworn I remembered writing and uploading. The story content depicting what happened to those who rushed onto the island, and the death of Kyle, who was just spouted as having been dead the following chapter.I don't know what happened to make it disappear, or at least I don't remember anymore. So I decided to rewrite the information as a sort of "lost chapter" add on for those who were confused! The following events take place during the Leroy Jenkins chapter. If the content seems a little rushed, I apologize. Like I said, this stuff was supposed to be included in a previous chapter, but mysteriously went missing. Not wanting the chapter to be too short, however, I added some extra content that wasn't in the previous write up.---------------------------------------------------We didn't have time to focus on the steel flower because within seconds of the bee girl being caught within it, the river next to us exploded into a fountain along with screams of terror. Snapping to attention, we saw Kyle half buried in the jaws of an enormous fish. The otter burst from the water and hastily clawed his way onto the shore before turning to look back as the fish began to thrash about in the water, making Kyle's screams distorted from the rapid movement. The sharp teeth piercing his body and the rapid movement began to take their toll and we watched in shock as Kyle was torn to pieces right in front of us. The fish gulped down Kyle's legs, then did the same to his upper body before returning beneath the river, a splotch of blood discoloring the water was the only remaining signs of the attack."Holy shit!" Adrian yelled, resting a paw on his chest after his near death experience. Hector quickly exclaimed that we had to get to safety and we began moving as a group to escape anymore death traps that might decide to spring on us.-------------------------------------------Elsewhere, the contestants who were too eager to get things rolling weren't having much better luck than us.One of the contestants was a road runner and was having the time of his life testing out his new speed. He was blazing his way through the island thanks to his modifications, as he mockingly ducked, weaved and outmaneuvered various death traps that tried to catch him. Maybe if he had been a flying bird, he could have lived a little longer. Alas, he was grounded and his arrogance caught up to him.Barreling through a set of bushes, the avian's feet locked into place and he went crashing face first into the ground, just barely managing to
put his arms up to divert some of the impact. When his senses returned to him, he tried to pick himself up, only to find he couldn't budge, and he felt a sickly ooze creeping over him. Looking down, he saw the ground was pitch black and bubbling, and he realized he had run straight into a tar pit!The poor bird's ass was sticking high into the air. He was crouched on his knees, sealing his legs to the pit and his upper body was pressing into the tar, trapping his arms up to the elbows, as well as the left side of his face. He couldn't get enough leverage to move, and struggling only made him begin to sink deeper! He tried to call out for help, but just as his beak opened, a glob of tar oozed its way inside, forcing him to breathe through his remaining nostril to get fresh air. At least he was lucky enough to get his head stuck first, that would make his impending death quicker once he lost his air supply.Another contestant's death was much quicker, though substantially more painful than mere suffocation. A salamander girl had made the unfortunate mistake of getting too close to a hornet's nest, having actually bumped into it during her travels. But these were no ordinary hornets, they had been genetically engineered. Each one was the size of a small dog, their poisoned stingers were like built in knives as they swarmed out from their house sized hive and dove at the intruder. Dozens of stingers pierced her flesh, each one carrying enough venom to kill 10 men. She creamed in pain from the stabs before collapsing in shock, the poison overloading her system. The hornets were not finished with her, though. Like something you only witness in a cartoon, the hornets worked together in unison to lift the corpse into the air and fly back inside their nest. The queen would lay her eggs inside the salamander as a host for the next generation of her swarm.Yet even working in groups could not save some of the other contestants. One tribe had wandered their way into a mass of unnaturally sentient vines. At the slightest caress against their bodies, the flexible wood coiled itself around them and pulled taught, restraining their movements as much as possible. They tried to struggle, but it was obvious they were helpless to do much more than twitch. It wasn't long before they began crying out for somebody to help them when it became obvious they couldn't move on their own.---------------------------"Oh, seems one of the tribes has just come into contact with our Baiting Vines" said Vincent as they watched the show play out on the cameras."Indeed," Susan confirmed, "these genetically modified vines will actually restrain anybody who comes into contact with them, and hold them prisoner. The screams and shouts of those captured by the vines make them easy to locate for any predators in the area."
she explained, licking her lips at the prospect."Too bad the entire tribe got captured, because the torque on those vines is just about impossible to fight against." Vincent commented, "Without somebody to cut the vines for you, you're stuck there." he clasped his hands together, watching the group struggling helplessly."It's only been a few minutes since the first batch of contestants was loaded onto the island, so nobody has any tools to work with." Susan explained. "Which, of course, means nobody is going to be able to free them. I'd love to watch their naked bodies squirm on the cameras, but we've got some more death and madness to cover, so let's move on." and with that, the cameras switched to show more contestants on the island being picked off or at least captured by the island.------------------------So far we were alone, yet off in the distance we could hear them. The screams of the dying who were unprepared for the dangers of the island. By now the second group of contestants should have been on their way to the island, and I was afraid the friends we left back at the docks may not catch up to us. "We should have waited on the beach for the others, there's no way they'll be able to find us now. We're too far in." I said. Another scream in the distance was abruptly silenced in mid cry, and I wondered what could have halted it in such a way."It's too late to turn back now. I don't even think we can retrace our steps." Hector said, looking back at the ground. The jungle was so overgrown that finding our prints would have been frustrating to say the least. We pressed onward, although now at a slower pace. The constant screams and moans off in the distance had us worried, but somehow we managed to play it cautious. Every member in the tribe was on high alert, scanning the environment for anything that looked out of the ordinary. Plants, food, water, wildlife, anything that could potentially kill us."Try to look on the bright side everyone. If we die, at least it will be exciting." Adrian joked, though his tone indicated he was only halfhazardly attempting to lighten the mood. Still, he got a few nervous chuckles from the group, so it seemed to have worked."I think the path is clearing up ahead." Hector said, finally. "Come on, maybe we can get some rest and survey the area!"End of Lost Chapter.
