So now we'll be following the adventures of Ranger Scott, the smooth suave skunk ranger who's not afraid to get rough. He's wealthy, a diplomat, skilled in espionage and a dab hand at kinetic weapon. Buckle in as he explores the mysteries of the lost planet of Elysium.
Soaring through the endless frontier of Galactic Federation space was the rogue of the Corps, Ranger Scott. He was the devilishly cunning member of enforcement of the law and honor of the federation. The skunk reclined back into his hands with a grin. Polished regulation boots were crossed on top the dashboard. His shiny white smart technology Ranger uniform gleamed and clung to his body showing off the results of constant conditioning and training. Under the soft constant lighting of the cockpit of the Blazing Comet, his ship shone the gold emblem of the Ranger corps on his right breast. His blue eyes glinted remembering his rise through the ranks.
The ranger was relaxing on patrol, his ship set on auto-pilot when an alert came on his com-unit .Scott brushed the fringes of his white hair back as he gazed down at the new set of orders sent to him. A careful eyebrow rose with the news along the secure airwaves of the Ranger Corps private channels. There was a buzz of speculation of the rescue of the celebrated freelance explorer, adventurer and self proclaimed Captain Sam E Stokes from a region of dead space. Furthermore there was the details of his next mission relating to Captain Sam's rescue.
Captain Sam E Stokes had been declared dead four galactic unified solar cycles ago after no trace of him had been found in his search for the mysterious planet of Elysium. The planet had been declared as a little more than a myth in its description of an advanced civilization of enlightened temperament. That of course meant it had more than likely developed superior firepower and advanced methods of warfare. To protect themselves against the unenlightened of course.
The explorer had been found stranded in an escape pod of unknown origin. Captain Sam was weak and delirious when found. Furthermore the mongoose was in critical condition and suffering from a variety of physical and mental ailments. The mongoose had been transferred and was now recovering in the Second Federal Galactic Med-ward under heavy guard and with details of his rescue being delayed to the news feeds.
The skunk twirled his stored kinetic weapon between his fingers as he read further on the incident. There was a holo-gram of the captain in his current state, much thinner and more fragile than his hearty appearance four years ago. In any case, when pressed by the federation. Sam E Stokes rambled that he had found the great civilization that resided on the planet Elysium. Fantastical tales of the wonders that could be found there and the endless riches that could fulfill the wildest dreams of any rambled out of his mouth. What was more worrisome to the officials was the dangers he spoke of. Sam E Stokes spoke about his crew were captured and used in some nefarious and unknown experiments. Furthermore there were weapons of interplanetary devastation just littering the landscape of the planet.
That was why Ranger Scott had been ordered to investigate the claims of this planet's existence. Even if the planet Elysium was merely a hallucination of the Captain caused by whatever calamity seemed to have befallen the expedition there. The chance that the respected captain's rants had any point of truth was a risk the federation could not take. So the skunk ranger had to investigate the mongoose's claims.
If the planet Elysium existed and was abandoned, then he was to explore it. Furthermore he was to seize and secure any dangerous assets there such as dangerous weaponry. It was for the sake of preventing any such hazardous technology from falling into the wrong hands. And if there was an enlightened civilization, see about their intentions and see if the Captain Sam E Stokes' crew needed rescue. If not then Ranger Scott would see about setting up diplomatic ties with whatever lived on the planet.
Ranger Scott seized the controls and quickly ran through the possible ways he could investigate the matter turning off the auto-pilot. There was a gag order on the issue of the Captain's rescue for twelve days. That was the estimated projection of how long the federation could suppress this information before it made its way to the public. Of course that was if nothing went wrong.
In terms of where to start this mission. There was the option of doing further research first. He could use his connections to gain entrance to the nearest Explorer's gala in three days. There was also the option interviewing the mongoose explorer directly.
There was the option of visiting a Ranger Archive Outpost to see what information the corps had if there was any. There was the option of seeing what the underworld was up to on this matter, for even the government couldn't stop the illicit markets. That option gave Scott the ability to head off any transaction on the Captain's situation. Or he could take the reckless and glory seeking way of diving right into the last places the Captain was found. Making a decision, he turned to the ship's navigation system and pressed in the coordinates to his destination.
How should Ranger Scott head first begin his mission?
A-Dive in recklessly towards the last locations that Captain Sam E Stokes were found. The sector where he was rescued and the last known location his expedition party was found. Certainly there should be some clues at those locations. Scott could certainly track the trail back towards the planet Elysium.
B-Head towards the Second Federal Galactic Med-ward and personally interview the Captain himself. Perhaps a personal touch would have the mongoose's lips spill more coherently
C-Set up his connections and wealth to gain access to the Explorers Gala that would occur within three days. There'll be contacts, and chances to intimately network.
D-Dive into the seedy underbelly of the Federation and use the criminal connections Scott developed to investigate what the lawless scum of the underworld have heard about this issue. Perhaps check in on that pistol for hire Night Sonar on what his ear caught.
E- Visit the Ranger Archive Outpost and retrieve any data about the Captain's journey and the circumstances surrounding the planet Elysium. Plus there's a cute mouse archivist on duty there.
