Light and Dark Ch.4: The Novelist
#4 of Light & Dark
I apologize in advance if parts of this chapter are bland. This is the forth version of this chapter and even then I wrote this while deprived of sleep so...
Keith is pressured to find another pack mate before the full moon by his beta, Joseph.
Keith finds a perfect candidate but their meeting is interrupted by some dangerous people.
"I don't care if he's the pack omega! He's our head chef and if you want to eat tonight, you are going to go down there and follow his orders! Do you understand? He needs all the help he's going to get if he expects to prepare enough meat for EVERY werewolf in Maine for the full moon in two days so if I were you, I WOULD GET MY ASS DOWN THERE AND HELP!"
It wasn't common for Booker to lose his cool in the office, but nearly every banker and their secretary could hear the 28 year old financial advisor screaming into his phone and were put off by the change in behavior. After slamming the phone back onto the receiver, Booker slumped back into his office chair and wiped away the sweat accumulating on his fore-head. His pack and Ava's were the only ones able to cater the sanctuary's monthly get-together for the full moon and this month was his turn to provide enough meat for about 500 werewolves most of which were Ava's. Booker had no idea why she had so many in her pack but her business was her own, as long as she helped keep the peace, Booker could care less how many she had.
He pulled out his cellphone and began texting his head beta, Jed. "Make sure Isaac gets the help he needs, you are authorized to dole out punishments if necessary." A minute later Jed had texted back: "Got it Booker, love you! <3"
Jedidiah was a loyal and dependable beta, but Booker knew that beneath that submissive personality was an alpha waiting to emerge. Keeping him at home as a proxy alpha was supposed to help Jed discover that side to himself but even after a year nothing had changed. Something was holding his head beta back, but he couldn't quite place what that was. Putting his thoughts aside he replied to Jed, telling him to do his best and that he loved him. After that he went back to work, confident that Jed could handle the situation back home.
"Come on Keith! He's been checking you out since he walked in!"
Joseph had been trying to get Keith to somehow convince one of their customers to become a werewolf and join their pack. So far Keith hadn't seen a single person come in that interested him, of course that was before he saw the guy Joseph was referring to. The man had a lumberjack beard and his chestnut brown hair was kept under a trucker's cap but looks could be deceiving since the man couldn't have been much older than himself. The man also had a pile of books strewn about his table as well as a laptop that he was typing on, and whenever he stopped he would glance up towards the counter to look at Keith. Joseph was correct in assuming that the man was checking him out. With help from his heightened senses, he could smell the man's arousal even from across the store.
"Fine, I will, but you haven't proved anything you know."
If Keith looked behind himself he would be certain to find Joseph with a stupid grin stretched out across his face. He sat down across from the man while he was distracted by whatever he was typing, waiting to surprise him. When he looked up, the man nearly jumped out of his seat.
"DUDE WHAT THE FUCK?!"
His voice had a hint of southern drawl to it indicating that if he lived in the city, he hasn't for long. He was of average build and his face was quickly growing scarlet red from the embarrassment of being caught and refused to make eye contact, hinting towards a submissive nature. All and all, even with his manly looks and temper, he was a cute guy that could easily be convinced to become a werewolf.
"You know, usually when someone is attracted to someone else, they usually gather up the courage to go talk to them you know."
"What?! H-how did you?"
"You didn't exactly make it subtle, checking me out every know and then."
The man began to slide in his seat trying to hide from Keith behind his laptop monitor, yet another indicator of a submissive personality.
"My name's Keith, you?"
The man was still huddled down in his seat so Keith had to lean over the guy's laptop to make eye contact. The southern man looked up with a blush splashed across his face.
"C-Collin... I'm sorry if I offended you sir, it won't happen again."
Yep, total sub. Before he became a werewolf, Keith wouldn't have been so forward in his advances. His personality was changing unbeknownst to him but even if he noticed, he wouldn't have cared. He was a dominant alpha wolf, and he was going to insubordinate this quivering sub into one of his betas if not an omega. If he was to do that however, he was going to have to be gentle with Collin. Keith smiled with a soft look on his face, calming the southerner from his embarrassment.
"Hey you weren't being offensive, it was kind of cute."
Once again Collin's blush flared up and his eyes darted away from Keith's.
"Hey, what do you say we go on a date?"
Collin was surprised, his heartbeat speeding up enough for Keith to hear with his improved hearing.
"U-uh... I'd like that. What do you have in mind?"
When you become a werewolf, in exchange for the improved senses of a wolf, your dietary options become limited. For one, anything poisonous to canines becomes poisonous to you as well. Because of that werewolves cannot consume chocolates, alcohol or ironically for Keith, coffee. And two, werewolves become unable to receive nutrition from plants as they are carnivorous. Besides those two restrictions, werewolves are just like normal humans in terms of dietary habits and have adapted as such. -Excerpt from Order's archives
Keith was surprised at how much Collin had changed since they had last seen each other. Before, Collin had had his hair tucked underneath his cap, but now it had been parted and tucked behind his ears and fell down to his shoulders in a wave before attempting to stick up again. His beard before was messy and uncut, but now it had been trimmed down to stubble giving a faint reminder of what had been there before. He had also put on an alluring aftershave that had Keith drawn to the handsome southerner, dulling his senses every time he inhaled the man's scent.
"Do you like it?..." Collin asked timidly, gazing up to Keith as though asking for approval. Keith wanted to pounce, and take Collin now but he had to hold himself back and keep his instincts in check if he wanted this date to go smoothly.
"Yeah, I do."
Keith had taken Collin to a steakhouse on the other side of the city, and after a thirty minute wait they had finally gotten a seat. For some reason though, Keith had felt that he was being watched but a quick survey of the restaurant had turned up nothing. After being seated and having ordered their drinks, Keith had initiated the conversation.
"So I picked up on a southern accent when we talked earlier. Where are you from?"
"Oh, you noticed? Well I grew up in Georgia and I moved here a year ago after landing a job."
"Well I'm not from here either you know."
"Oh?"
"Yeah, I'm half native and I was born in Oklahoma where I spent my early childhood in my mom's tribe."
"Okay, so how'd you end up here?"
"Well my mom died in a car accident when I was seven so there was nothing really keeping my dad in Oklahoma. When grandpa got sick, my dad and I moved up here to take care of him before he eventually passed as well."
"Oh I'm sorry..."
"Hah! Don't be! If you want to feel sorry for anyone, feel sorry for my dad! My mom's parents hate his guts now for taking me away from the tribe and when they came to visit for my eighth birthday, they spent the entire time giving him this evil look..."
Over the course of the date, Keith had begun developing a close relationship with Collin after exchanging various details of their lives. Collin was 25 years old, grew up in a semi-strict home down in Georgia before moving to Maine, and had become a novelist. When they met, he was working on a sequel to his most recent novel and had finally gotten out of his apartment for the first time in a week. Collin was slightly embarrassed that he hadn't cleaned up before leaving that morning and met Keith that way so he made up for it when he prepared for their date, explaining his drastic change in appearance. Keith chuckled when Collin admitted this, and said that he didn't mind his previous look but now Collin was even more handsome before, making Collin blush from the compliment.
After leaving the restaurant, Keith had pulled Collin into the entrance of a nearby alleyway.
"Um, Keith? What are you doing? The car's this way."
Before Collin could react, Keith had wrapped both of his arms around Collin and had pulled him into a kiss. Collin was caught off guard, he hadn't expected to be kissed by such a handsome guy, especially when he was so out of his league. He was hesitant when Keith began to slide his tongue into his mouth, was he even worthy? Keith noticed that Collin was uncomfortable and broke the kiss, feeling as though he failed.
"Did I do something wrong?"
Collin shook his head and wrapped his arms around Keith.
"N-no! I just... I don't feel like I deserve you..."
Keith took the bottom of Collin's chin with one of his hands, forcing him to look him in the eyes while he gave the most reassuring look he could muster and smiled. Collin felt inferior to Keith, but when he saw the comforting look Keith gave him, he could feel the sincerity of Keith's feelings towards him.
"I don't want you to say that, okay? There is nothing about you that makes you undeserving of me."
Collin smiled and without warning, Collin went in for a kiss. Keith was unprepared and before he could react Collin had already joined their lips. After recovering from his surprise he had joined him, meeting his tongue with his own and holding the other man close as time seemed to melt away. It would have been perfect, but unbeknownst to them, they were followed.
Keith felt an unknown presence behind him but before he could break the kiss and confront the stranger, a hand reached out grabbing Keith by the shirt with an iron grip. Keith was so startled, he had accidentally bit down on Collin's lip and drew blood as he was pulled away from him and thrown on the pavement with a loud thud, echoing through the alleyway. It felt like a cold knife had been plunged into his stomach. Although he was being attacked, he had accidentally bit Collin and in a couple of minutes he would turn into a werewolf. He never told Collin, and had forcibly changed his life without him knowing. He screwed up big time, and would in no way be able to apologize to him.
He shifted his body to get a look at his attacker, but all he could see was the barrel of a gun. The attacker pressed the gun to Keith's forehead but instead of feeling cold metal all he could feel was a sharp searing pain where the weapon pressed onto his skin. It felt like the time he had once burned his on the stove, but rather than recoiling he was being forced to experience the pain longer than one should have. He screamed out in pain, and could hear Collin yelling at the attacker but couldn't make out the words.
"So, it appears I was right. You are a werewolf." The only word that came to Keith's mind was "Hunter". He had been caught off guard and was about to die and if Collin didn't run before his transformation kicked in, he would be dead too.
"Funny, you thought you could seduce this perfectly normal human into becoming a monster like you. Well we aren't going to let you!"
Once the hunter said that, another appeared from around the corner. While the one holding him down looked to be in his forties and balding, the other looked about 19 or 20 and had shaved the sides of his head, leaving a short buzzed mo hawk in the middle. He held a long silver blade in his hand and looked unsure about what he was supposed to do, flipping the blade over and over in his palm. If what they said about werewolves in the stories were true, then the weapons they were holding were silver. The place where the gun was placed on his forehead now burned away completely, causing blood to drip down the middle of his face as first-degree turned to second-degree burns. It was unbearable, and tears welled up in Keith's eyes from the pain. Collin was paralyzed with fear, edging himself up against the wall as he looked on in horror.
"Well, it's this guy's first mission so I'll let him end your miserable life, come on over!" He motioned for the other hunter to come over, grinning as he dug the barrel of the gun into Keith's wound, letting a fresh cascade of blood spill out and eliciting a scream from the aforementioned werewolf. He wanted to tell Collin to run, but if he did so, they would have known he bit him, so he remained silent as he waited. They hadn't noticed but Collin's eyes had begun to change from blue to yellow, one of the first parts of the transformation. He was too late, unless a miracle happened, they were both as good as dead.
"Come on kid, as long as I have him in this position he won't be able to attack. The silver, you see, is causing so much pain on contact that his body is using all of its resources to heal the wound it's causing! Since I'm not removing the gun, the wound can't heal and even then, it would take a while for their bodies to heal silver induced wounds. He's as helpless as a baby!"
The other hunter gripped the blade he held tightly, and muttered something under his breath.
"What was that? I didn't hear you."
The other hunter looked up with a look of anger across his face.
"I said, I never asked for this life!"
Without further warning he lifted the sword up and plunged it into his partner's shoulder, causing him to drop the gun onto the ground as blood spewed out of the fresh wound.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"
The wound on Keith's forehead had already ceased to bleed now that the silver gun was removed but like the hunter said, his body was using every thing it had to heal the silver induced wound so he couldn't transform but he didn't need to to fight the hunter. He swung his fist as hard as he could, connecting the blow with the hunter's face and throwing the hunter off of him. The younger hunter caught the elder hunter as he fell, but rather than help his partner, he retrieved his blade and once again sank the blade into his flesh. The elder hunter screamed as the younger hunter stabbed him multiple times, each time sending a blood curling scream out into the night. Oddly enough no one came to investigate. Keith ran over to Collin and held him close, already his ears had begun to change and he seemed a bit taller than before. Looking back, the elder hunter collapsed into a pool of his own blood with the silver blade still lodged in his gut.
The younger hunter was gasping for breath, covered in his former partner's blood. He looked over to Keith with a worried look on his face.
"Are you okay?"
Those were the last words Keith had expected from a hunter.
"Why did you kill him rather than me? I thought you were a hunter!"
Collin was still cowering in fear, looking at Keith with confusion.
"What the hell is going on?! He called you a werewolf! And what the hell do you mean hunter?!"
The younger hunter glanced between them before sighing.
"I'll start by saying: I never chose to be a hunter, my parents raised me to be one. Tonight they sent me with this guy right here to hunt down a werewolf as a rite of passage. From my point of view, I had a choice. I could either go through with it and become a glorified serial killer, or kill my partner and run away. I chose the latter, but I have no where to go now."
Keith didn't believe what he was hearing. His first encounter with a hunter, he had been ambushed but before he was killed, he was saved by another hunter. As impossible as it sounded, he didn't pick up on any indication that the hunter was lying. Collin broke the silence.
"I still don't know what's going on! Keith! Why is he calling you a werewolf?!"
Keith turned and looked at Collin with a sad look on his face.
"Promise me you won't be mad at me..."
Just in case, he brought Collin around the side of a dumpster so that any passerby wouldn't see him, then he remembered the dead hunter still lying in full view of the empty street. He looked around the edge of the dumpster and saw the other hunter dripping a vial of an unknown substance on top of the corpse. The body began to bubble where the liquid dropped until the body itself dissolved. In less than a minute, no trace of the body remained except for the blood and even then, that began to dissolve as well. The hunter capped the vial and placed it into a pouch he had brought with him. He turned and saw Keith watching the process.
"Sorry about that. If anyone came by, law enforcement would be on our asses in less than a heartbeat and lucky for us, I happen to have a cadaver dissolving potion. Hunters use it to dispose of werewolf corpses so the public remains unaware of their existence."
"R-right..."
Now that he was sure that they wouldn't be seen, Keith had begun taking off his shirt.
"Keith? Why are you doing that?"
Flinging it to the ground, Keith looked into Collin's eyes which were now golden.
"Like I said, don't be mad at me. You see... They weren't lying."
He only had to change the top half of his body to prove his point. Fur blossomed all over his top half, covering every inch of his body as his face enlongated into a wolven muzzle and his ears became pointed and migrated to the top of his head, twitching as he became noticeably canine.
"Wait...what?"
Collin was shocked to see Keith like that.
"You mean you're really?"
Keith nodded.
"Yes, and I'm sorry but when they attacked, I accidentally bit you..."
Collin didn't seemed fazed.
"But, you're still you right? You're still Keith?"
"Y-yeah but, you're going to..."
"So? I don't mind. Does it happen soon or do I need to do something first?"
"Um, you're already..."
Collin looked down. Already his clothes were becoming too tight as his muscles expanded and grew to accommodate his new body. One by one, the buttons on the shirt popped off, exposing the bulging muscles of his pecs and abs to the cold night air. Although he already had body hair, new hairs began to grow in thicker than the originals, covering his god like body in a forest of chestnut brown before being over taken by white fur. Collin tried to take off his shirt to avoid any further damage, but he couldn't help the fact that his arms were far too big for him to easily take them out. After successfully frustrating himself from numerous attempts at removing the garment, Collin gave up and proceeded to tear off the shirt piece by piece with the claws he just grew, throwing the shreds down at to his feet. Every move he made caused any one of his muscles to flex, hypnotizing Keith and the hunter as his body danced.
"Guys, stop staring please? It's embarrassing."
*SHHHRIIIPPP* Collin looked down and saw that his legs were now far too large for his pants and had caused them to rip at the seams. He covered his privates just as his pants gave away and fell into the growing pile of clothes. Keith walked up to Collin and got a good grip on the southerner's hands before yanking them away from what the sheepish man tried to hide. He pinned the man's arms to his sides, keeping him exposed to Keith's hungry eyes as he marveled in Collin's progressively less and less human-looking genitals.
"Hey! Come on!"
Collin tried to shake Keith off of him only to find that Keith was stronger than him, his iron-grip keeping his arms stuck to his sides. He thought to himself about the improbability of the situation. He was becoming a werewolf, something that once only existed in fiction, but here he was changing before his date and soon-to-be alpha. Even though he should have been feeling pain from his predicament, he felt oddly enough, aroused. Looking down, he already saw that his dick was forming a sheath, the skin fusing around his dick while being covered in the same white fur that was covering his chest and torso. Collin noticed that Keith had begun kneeling down and sniffing at his crotch.
"H-hey! Are you really going to do that while he's still here?!"
Collin was of course referring to the hunter from before who was standing off to the side, totally distracted by Collin's transformation. He was aroused and sported an obvious erection bulging in his shorts. At the mention of himself, he looked back up in shame.
"Oh, sorry... I just wanted to talk to the other guy while you were still here."
"About what?"
Unfortunately for Collin, Keith had not moved an inch even when talking to the hunter, and had even taken steps further by massaging the sensitive skin of his newly formed sheath with his tongue, the moist movements urging forth his member as it began its changes into a wolfs.
"Well, like I said before, I have no where to go now that I betrayed the Hunters, so..."
"Mmph?"
Keith knew no shame apparently, still communicating with the hunter even while pleasuring his new wolf with his tongue. Collin couldn't take it anymore so he closed his eyes hoping that his exposure to the stranger would be over soon.
"I was hoping that you would take me in too..."
That caught Keith in his tracks, the alpha retracting his tongue before turning to face the hunter.
"Wait, you WANT to be a werewolf?"
The hunter only shook his head while Keith stood up imposingly towards the hunter. The former hunter shied away from the wolf while staring away, obviously taking a huge risk and hoping it didn't back fire on him.
"If I make you a werewolf there are some things you will have to do for me."
The hunter perked up at the mere hint of becoming a werewolf and turned to make eye contact with Keith, only to shy away again under the pressure the wolf's gaze put on him.
"You seem young and I guess you aren't in college yet so one, you are going to work for me until you get a better job or get into college. Two, you WILL be the pack omega not because you were a hunter but because you are the youngest, no ifs ands or buts about it. And finally three, you will NOT mention your past to anyone besides me and Collin unless you know they can keep a secret. It's for your own protection, understand?"
The hunter nodded furiously
"Yes sir! My names Adolph by the way."
Keith grabbed the young man by his shirt and pulled him close enough to whisper into his ear. Adolph shuddered at the closeness between him and the tall muscular alpha wolf, this being the first time he had been so close to another male. He could feel the older man's warm breath on his ear as the wolf commanded him to remove his clothes. As he raised his hoodie up and over his head he could hear Collin complain about not being told to remove his clothes before he destroyed them in the transformation, but his argument was swiftly shut down by being reminded they were attacked just moments before.
After Adolf had gotten rid of his soon to be useless clothes, Keith began to look over and judge his new recruit. Adolph's hunter training definitely payed off, leaving him with a well toned but light-weight build, but even though he was about 5'6" and a foot shorter than Keith, his transformation would bulk him up even further like it had with him and Collin. Adolph shivered in the cold night's air and was about to reach for his clothes before Keith had stopped him.
"Tough it out omega, soon you'll outgrow those clothes and be covered in fur. Quit whining and come here, it's time for you to become one of us."
Getting two large, nude werewolves out to his car in a parking garage a block away from the steakhouse wasn't something Keith wanted to go through again, with multiple points during their journey where they could have been discovered. With some skill he had gotten Collin and Wolf into the back seat of the car where they were told to lay low, with Wolf lying on top of Collin's fur covered frame.
After Adolph had transformed completely Keith had suggested that he take a new name, not only to protect him from the hunters but also because of the negative connotation to the name thanks to the infamous fuhrer of Germany. After some horrible suggestions given by his alpha, Adolph suggested that he be called Wolf, since Adolph literally meant: "noble wolf", in German and from there the name stuck.
Collin was covered in brown fur with a white patch over his belly and chest, and had grown even taller than his alpha at a full height of 7'0" and had grown muscles like that of a competitive body-builder. Wolf on the other hand had blonde fur so light in color that you would mistake it for white but his body had barely changed, reaching a full height of 5'10" and had gained some muscle so that he barely scraped the definition of medium weight, his body looking like that of a hockey player's.
The size-difference of the wolves was kind of cute. While they drove back to their new home, Wolf was laying his head on Collin's pillowy pecs and had curled up in the massive wolves chest fur while Collin had been cuddling the omega as though he were a stuffed animal. Keith had wanted to stop the car and join his new beta and omega, but at the same time he wanted to get home and show Joseph his new pack mates and see his beta's reaction to returning with twice as many people as he began with.
But at the same time he wanted to be alone with his beta, his hard working beta who had spent two weeks teaching him how to be a werewolf. Joseph gave him his abilities because he had a crush on him and how did he repay him? He went and had sex with one of his friends, went on a date with a stranger, and converted a stranger that had saved his life. Keith felt guilty that he had ignored his beta for so long, his heart feeling heavy at the thought of betraying his beta. But he wasn't going to let that get him down. He was determined that as soon as he gets home that he show Joseph how much he is loved by his alpha. Though of course, he wasn't going to ignore his new pack mates either, in fact they were all going to have a little fun when they get back home.
