A trip in the woods
"YOU KEEPING UP?" I shout and stop and wait for Jessie, a 18 year old cross fox. She walks up to me and puts her hands on her knees and catch her breath, I say "I ain't even walking too fast" I know its the snow and our height difference that separated us when we where walking, but our feelings for each other puts that behind us. She takes a deep breath in and says "hey, I'm no coywolf, Jason" She always brings-up the fact that I am half coyote and half wolf or a coywolf. I sigh and say "we are almost at camp... so I say about another five minuets at my speed, an hour at yours!" and laugh at my joke. Around seven minutes pass and we get at camp, I say camp but i mean the cabin. It is a simple cabin, one floor log cabin, steep roof with shingles and yes a door and two windows.Jessie says "that wasn't too bad now was it... come on lets get in there" and she opens the door. We sort-away the things we took, stuff like food, can opener, clothes, etc. The first thing i do is start a fire, so I grab some small twigs from the side of the furnace, some cardboard and split-up some small logs. I rip-up the cardboard and put the twigs on top of it, I pull out a lighter and light-up the cardboard, soon enough the twigs catch and I put on the splits. I close the furnace door and wait for it to burn."ouch!" shouts Jessie, trying to muffle her shout with her paw over her mouth, she says "stubbed my bloody toe!... GOD!""Aww!" I said "you poor thing!" and pick her up, only to lay her on the couch. She says "I can still walk, Jason" I put a finger up to her muzzle and say "shh... your too weak to talk"She sighs and says "your so... dramatic and romantic... You best check that fire"I nod and walk over to the furnace, open the door and toss-in some small logs than close the door. The small cabin is already starting to warm-up, so I take off the thin jacket I had on, I see that Jessie has gotten-up and is hanging-up her coat too, I ask "do you have the time?"She looks at her wrist and says "about 6:30" and she starts to walk to another room, she comes back with a small gas bottle and says "I'm going to get the generator going"I say "I don't think that it needs the gas, but leave it out there" we have a small shed, only big enough for the generator and a person/fur, there is a small vent to let-out the exhaust.I now have to put some larger logs on the fire and the lights come on, there is a faint hum from the generator. A few seconds later I hear a thump and a seconds after that Jessie comes in.She says "dang it, almost tripped going up the stairs there!... don't worry, I'm fine"I say "I should check to see if we have some road salt" And I walk into the other room, we keep things in this room, things like a shovel, road salt, sometimes gas and oil... that stuff. I find about a cup and a half of salt in a bag. After salting the stairs, I go back
into the cabin and see Jessie sitting on the couch, she says "I'm so clumsy today, falling all over the place!"I sit next to her and say "I know that feeling, sucks... looks like you need someone to cheer you up!" And pin her down and start tickling her.She starts squirming and laughing, soon she manages to start tickling me back. It becomes apparent that with my arm length I have the upper hand... or rather the upper paw and She is soon forced to say "I CANT BREATH, STOP IT!"I roll away from her and say "fine" we have both worked-up a sweat and need to catch our breath.I soon get up to check the fire, I say "we are going to have to go out and chop a few logs tomorrow... as it is too late to do so now" With the fire dealt with I pull on a jacket and ask "did you put the gas in the generator?" Jessie shakes her head, I say "I am going to put it in now, so be right back" I step out side and walk into the small shed, it is warm in there.I pour in the gas and put the lid back on. For some reason Jessie just floats into my head, she is so cute and sexy, we like a lot of the same things and ever act kind of similar... there is a reason why we are dating. I do not know how she feels about sex, but if i had half a chance I would screw her. I always make sexual jokes and she always laughs at them, jokes like hey look, I can only just rap my arms around this tree... Finally found something bigger than my dick being one of my favorite (and least possible) jokes.I have walked-in on Jessie while she was getting out of the shower or when she is getting changed, she never shouted at me for that and never rushed me out, I was just too nice and just turned-around and walked out of the room. I could just imagine Jessie sitting on that couch, naked with her legs spread for me... I stop myself there and go back in the cabin, hang-up the jacket and check the fire.Jessie asks "how much gas do we have?"I respond "there is enough in the tank for 12 hours and there is a smaller bottle around here somewhere" she nods. About an hour passes and we start getting ready for bed, I turn-on some battery powered lanterns and walk out and turn-off the generator. I can hear the wild eastern coyotes howling, I say "I would join you, but not without Jessie" Normally I would howl back, but only with Jessie. By howling back the coyotes would know where we live and know to keep back as this is our territory and they are smart enough to keep back. Hopefully the sent from us having to go outside to do our "business" works fine.I walk into the cabin and check the fire, I get Jessie to get-up and go in the bed room, I start turning-off the lanterns leading to the bed room. In the bed room we have a single lantern so we can still see, unlike most cabins we have a twin bed so we can sleep together. We lie down in bed and I turn-off the lantern. The next dayI wake-up to find that
it is pretty warm in here, I stretch-out and twist to crack my back and i notice something important is missing, Jessie is not in bed with me. I jump up and rush out to the main room of the cabin, I see Jessie checking the fireShe said "good morning, Jason" I nod back, she says "That's the last of the wood, we are going to have to get some more"I say "yes, but lets get something to eat" our options are limited and some things may taste a little off, but we have things like hot dogs, ham burgers, some vegetables and what ever we can catch. After we ate, we puled on our jackets and I took my axe we left to get some wood. It was about a ten minuet walk to get to where I cut our wood. I look around for a good tree, I see one about 25-30 feet tall, starting to die, I take the axe and start swinging it at the side of the tree to cut off the branches that I can reach. I am about to take the first swing at the tree and Jessie says "hey Jason?"I say "yo?"she asks "whats that over there?"I turn to see where she is pointing and see the snow is stained red, I walk over with Jessie not far behind me. once we get closer I see that the red is blood, there is fur tossed everywhere and the remains of a moose calf. "oh god!" Jessie said "what happened!?"I think, I walk over to the calf front right leg and pull it out of the snow, I say "in the hole created here, there an an alder growing here, when the snow came down It left an air pocket that collapsed when this calf ran over it... and it was being chased!" I see the tracks from its mother leading away from the remains, I say "they where both running from something and the calf went down, the mother never noticed"Jessie says "thats so sad... But what was chasing them?" I look around and see the dog-like tracks, "coyotes" I say. I look at the tracks and can tell how many there was and how big they where, I say "there was six of them, the biggest one about 50-60 pounds and the smallest about 25-35 pounds" I examine the remains, I say "they ate the good things, the heart, the lungs, the kidneys and the liver... they will be back tonight for the meat"she asks "why don't we take some meat?"I respond "the stomach popped and now there is crap over everything, with lots of washing and being very picky as to not eat moose crap we could get about 10-15 pounds per quarter" a quarter of moose being one of the legs with part of the spine and in the case of the front legs(quarters) the ribs. Jessie nods. we go back to our tree.On our way back, Jessie was fowling the moose tracks to see where they came from. I got to where the tree and my axe was, I was about to take a chop when "YIPE" I spin to face Jessie and see that she is up to the hips in the snow, she says "GOD, that hurts!!" I run over to her.I ask "ARE YOU OKAY!"She says "JUST PULL ME OUT!!, god!"I grab her and pull her out, she
says "my foot hurts some bad"I get her to lean up against me and try to put some weight on her foot, she falls down. I help her back up and ask "what now?"She says "why didn't we take the ski-doo, go out to the house and get it!"I say "it will take too long, 25 minutes out and 10 in with the ski-doo, a coyote could come along"She says "go to the cabin and get the sled, I sit on it and you pull me out"I say "the sled cracked in half from that snow drift we hit going down that big hill"she says" And I'm too big for you to carry to the cabin... what do we do?"I gently grab her foot and ask "is this the one that hurts?" she nods, I say "okay, tell me if it hurts when I poke it" she nods. I start poking around her foot, nothing, I get to her ankle and the first poke. She shouts "GOD!!" After some more shouts and pokes I say "yeah, you sprained your ankle"She asks "so what now?"I say "I could try to make a splint, let me see whats in that backpack of yours" I dig trough the bag and find a roll of duct tape, I say "this will help, hold this" and pass it to her.I go to the tree and grab the branches I cut off, I place two of the strongest and straightest against the ankle and tape it along her shin to the bottom of her foot. I slip some branches into her backpack and zip it up. I stand her up and support her, we slowly start walking back to the cabin. About ten minuets into the walk we sit down on a stump and catch our breath, I say "another five minuets at this rate and we will be at the cabin"I stand up and see something in the bushes, It resembles a dog, I say "Jessie, Jessie, there is a coyote there" It steps out of the bushes, the coyote being about 30 pounds looks very under-weight.Jessie asks "why is it so thin? there is a dead moose not far."I say "he is a small coyote, the bigger ones eat first and he probably never ate anything off it"the coyote growls at us, pins its ears back and slowly walks towards us.I reach down to my hip and grab a handle, I say "I don't want to do this... back off!"the coyote continued to approach us.I pull out a .22 LR handgun, take aim and say "don't make me do this!"the coyote does not care about my voice and threats.I fire a shot at the snow in front of him and shout "LAST CHANCE!"The coyote sticks his ears up and staggers, he is considering running off. But he doesn't, he continues walking to us, he is nearly close enough to jump on me. I have no choice, I aim at the coyotes head and fire.POW the coyote drops to the snow on the spot, it kicks its legs and twitches its tail while lying on the ground, Jessie asks "you just shot it in the head! why did it still kick like that?"I say "You see... when anything has its brain destroyed from a bullet or some other trauma, the last thing they do is the last thing there brain thinks, so the coyote was
thinking I'm so going to jump on him and kill him but the bullet turned that into I'm so going to BANG twitch, kick, kick, twitch"Jessie nods and than asked "wait, cant you get money for those things?"I respond "yes, around here you can get 25 dollars per coyote, I will leave you at the cabin than come back for it"We get to the cabin and I plop Jessie on the couch, I toss the branches in the fire and go back for the coyote, I bring it back and leave it at the cabin. I say "yo Jessie, I'm going back to the house to get the ski-doo, expect me back in 15 minutes" she nods.I arrive at our house and start up the ski-doo, It will take about five minutes to get back to the cabin now. I arrive at the cabin and help Jessie get on the ski-doo and strap the coyote to the back rack.We get to the house, I ask "do you want to go to the hospital to get your foot checked-out?"She said "yes, only because it could be broken"I get Jessie into the passenger seat in the car and put the coyote in the trunk. I don't speed because Jessie is not in serous pain, she even says its okay for me to cash-in the coyote first. The doctor confirmed that it was only a sprained ankle and put a proper splint on it, we returned home 25 bucks richer.
