#6 of Starfox

Three months had passed since Wolf had started seeing Krystal behind Fox's back. Wolf had learned to manage the guilt he felt about cheating on his husband, rationalizing that keeping Krystal happy and keeping his family together was his highest priority. The affair was not without its close calls, such as the night Fox and Wolf went out to eat together, leaving Marcus and Will with Wolf's parents. There at the fancy restaurant they chose to eat, the couple had--unwittingly, in Wolf's view--run into Panther Caroso, the very beast Wolf had lied about seeing. Panther was dining there with his new wife, and longtime friend of the Star Fox team, Katt Monroe, now Katt Caroso. Wolf almost went into a panic attack when the newly-wed couple had asked them to join them. It was only a stroke of luck that Fox and Katt both had to go to the restroom at the same time. While they were away, Wolf quickly told Panther to play along with what he was doing. Happy to oblige his former boss, Panther told Fox that he had been doing consulting work for the Cornerian Army, but was back to freelance work.

There were close calls, such as when Panther slipped up, saying he hadn't seen Wolf for years, then taking it back, saying he had seen him in the grocery store the same day that Wolf went out to get diapers for Marcus and Will. Wolf had to excuse himself a few times to go to the restroom, his nerves were on the edge of breakdown, and anxiety made his bowels upset, a thoroughly unpleasant experience for the lying lupine. Wolf breathed a sigh of relief when the meal was over and the couples parted ways. He had been spared the horror of Fox finding out his secret.

For now.

It was now Saturday morning, and Fox, Wolf and especially Will eagerly awaited the arrival of Marcus, though Wolf wanted nothing more than to see Krystal drop off Marcus and just leave without saying a word. Some weeks Wolf got his wish, while other weeks she decided to stay and chat. The longer she staid, the more uncomfortable Wolf felt, and just like the restaurant, Wolf had to sometimes make an emergency trip to the bathroom. He would sometimes return to see Krystal and Fox chatting away as though they had never been through a terrible divorce. Krystal never wasted an opportunity to give Wolf funny looks when Fox wasn't looking, making Wolf even more neverous and uncomfortable than he was. He just hoped this week she would leave, just fucking leave!

Wolf was now occupying himself by reading the weekend edition of the newspaper, hoping to take his mind off Krystal's arrival. Try as he might, he could never get her completely out of his thoughts. Would this be the Saturday she might decide to break their deal; telling Fox the truth? He tried not to think about it, but his attempts were always in vain.

Just then, the doorbell rang, making Wolf drop the paper as he sprang from his chair.

"I'll get it!" he yelled at Fox, who was busy cooking in the kitchen.

Wolf took a deep breath, telling himself to calm down and act like nothing was going on. He went to the door and opened it.

"Hello, Wolf," said Krystal in a seductive tone.

"Hello," said Wolf, glaring at her.

"Hi, Daddy Wolf!" said Marcus who reached up for his second father.

"Hey there, pup!" said Wolf, picking him up. "I bet you wanna go play with, Will?

"Yep!" said the little fox, wagging his bushy tail.

Wolf put him down, watching him run off to his room to see his brother. Confident that only he and Krystal were listening, he laid into the vixen.

"Like I've told you before," he said, his voice hushed, but filled with wrath, "you'd better shut your fucking mouth!"

Krystal grinned at him. She was smug and confident. "Oh, I'll behave myself . . . if you're lucky!"

The two went into the living room where Wolf was greeted to the sight of Krystal purposely sitting in his chair. He glared at her, but she was neither threatened nor moved by his expression. He sat on the couch, not wanting to say a word to her.

"Oh," said Fox, walking out from the kitchen. "Hello, Krystal!"

"Hello, Fox!" said Krystal, who got up to give her ex-husband a hug. Wolf hated it when she did that, and she knew he hated it. The longer he had been with the vixen, the friendlier she was towards Fox. Wolf tried to take solace in the fact that Fox was much happier dealing with the mother of his son, but it was of little comfort to Wolf.

"How's Marcus been?" asked Fox.

"Fine, although he's still wearing diapers at night," said Krystal.

"Yeah, same thing with Will," Fox remarked. Both boys were in the early stages of toilet training, and though they had made progress, their parents still thought it necessary to keep them in diapers at night. Fox had been sure to mark their achievements, noticing that they were having fewer accidents at night with every passing week.

"So, Krystal," said Fox. "Are we ever going to meet this boyfriend of yours?"

Wolf thought his heart might explode at the mention of "Krystal's boyfriend". He cursed Krystal in his mind, wishing the bitch of a vixen would just vanish into thin air.

"Oh," said Krystal, turning her gaze to Wolf. "I think that day will come, right Wolf?"

Wolf wanted to strangle her, but he knew that she had him by the balls. Every move he made, every attempt he made at stopping this was thwarted by the sly Krystal.

"Wolf," said Fox, looking at Wolf, who was now drenched in sweat, "are you okay?"

"Fine," said Wolf, his throat dry, his voice raspy.

"Well," said Krystal, getting up, "I think I should be going."

Wolf breathed a sigh of relief. "Good-bye, Krystal," he said, starting to feel better.

"Yeah, see you next Saturday," said Fox.

"Yes," she said, "I really need to get going. I'm expecting to see my boyfriend tonight!"

Wolf's anxiety was back in full force. Fox watched, puzzled, as Wolf ran to the bathroom.

"I don't know why he does that when you're around," said the clueless Fox.

Krystal shrugged her shoulders, turned around and walked out the door.

Later that night, Fox and Wolf were in bed. Wolf had still not fully recovered, and Fox kept asking him questions, too many questions for the lupine's taste.

"Wolf, why is it that you seem to have these panic attacks lately?"

"Don't know," said Wolf flatly, he turned to his side, facing away from his husband.

"You seem rally nervous around Krystal. Is there a particular reason why?"

Wolf tried to keep his cool. "Don't know," he said again.

Fox grabbed hold of Wolf, flipping him around so that he could make eye contact with him. "Wolf, seriously, what the hell is wrong with you?"

Wolf wanted to confess, right there, but what good would that do? How could he justify his sleeping with Krystal to the beast he loved, his best friend, his lover, his husband? He got out of bed, putting his clothes back on.

"Where are you going, Wolf?" asked Fox.

"I need to get some fresh air, Fox," he said as he hurriedly threw a t shirt on.

"You're avoiding me," said Fox, growing upset.

Wolf sighed, He leaned down and looked Fox in the eyes. "Fox, I promise, I'll go see a doctor first thing in the morning. Okay?"

"Okay," said Fox, with a nod. "I'm just worried about you, that's all."

"I know," said Wolf as he took hold of his cell phone. "I promise I will get better, Fox. I promise you that!"

Wolf walked outside and got in his car. He was sick of it all; sick of the lies, sick of the sneaking around, sick of feeling like his life was one big roller coaster that was ready to collapse. He knew what he had to do, whatever the cost may be.

Wolf arrived at Krystal's house. Getting out of his car, he went and banged on the door. What seemed like an eternity passed before Krystal got to the door.

"Well," said the vixen, who for once was fully clothed when she opened the door. "You're early tonight! Did you miss me?"

Wolf walked inside, shutting the door. "We need to talk, right now!"

"Yes," said Krystal, "as a matter of fact, we do!"

Wolf mustered all the courage he could before he spoke, his voice resolute. "Krystal, I don't care if you tell Fox about us, I'm ending this, now! I'm sick of having to sneak around to see you. I'm sick of sleeping with you just so you'll stop making Fox miserable. I'm sick of you ruining my life!"

Krystal laughed at him. "My, my, it looks like someone doesn't know their place, does he?"

Wolf gnashed his teeth at the vixen. "You don't scare me anymore, Krystal! It's over, right here, right now! You go ahead and tell Fox everything! I don't give a fuck anymore!"

Wolf put his paw on the door, but Krystal was determined to have the last word. "I don't think you know everything about this situation quite yet?"

Wolf turned around, flaring his nostrils. "What the hell are you talking about, vixen?"

Krystal walked out of the room, but quickly returned with a small stick in her hands. "You know what this is?"

"No," growled Wolf, tired of her games. "Why should I give a fuck what it is?"

"It's a test," said Krystal.

"What kind of test," asked Wolf, barely controlling his temper.

"A pregnancy test," said Krystal, grinning.

Wolf felt his confidence vanish, it was all he could do to stand up. "Pregnancy test?" he said, his voice a whisper.

"Yes," said Krystal. "I'm pregnant, Wolf! Looks like you're going to be a Daddy again!"

Wolf slumped down in a corner. What was he going to do now?
