Enjoy some tears.
The kids landed on the thing's back as it thrashed. It wanted them off. Papyrus was more restrained in his attacks now. Sans was screaming for the kids to get off the creature. It was not long before they were flung into a patch of snow.
The thing turned on them but before it could get at them, Papyrus unleashed a particularly powerful bone attack. Sending it reeling as it cried out in agony. IT turned back into smoke and fled, leaving the group alone to recover as the distant sound of sirens filled the air.
Sans was furious, Papyrus had put the kids in danger. How utterly stupid! Coming outside, he saw them, and they were smiling. Why the hell were they smiling? "You felt it too?" Asriel asked Frisk. She nodded. "It was momma... she was...protecting us."
Sans staraed at them a moment. His eye glowing faintly. They were so sure of themselves. That thing would have... should have killed them. But.. It just... It was like it couldn't bring itself too touch them. And where did Papyrus learn to move like that? Sans felt it suddenly. The time line was fractured. HE closed his eyes. Sans knew in his heart that this timeline was going to reset. But to when and where he didn't know. He knew Frisk wasn't going to do it. She couldn't do it anymore.
The skeleton moved outside and watched Papyrus pick up Undyne. The kids were helping Alphys get mettaton inside. The sirens got closer. Arriving the police cars stopped in the snow. "Where is it?" One asked. "We fought it off." Sans said. One officer looked at Sans skeptically. "We didn't even make a dint in it with magic or weapons. How did you do it?" "Sheer dumb luck." The officer sighed. "Probably. Look, Be careful. That thing is very powerful."
Sans nodded as the officers left. Once everyone was inside, they locked the door. The kids were ok. That was what mattered the most. But honestly, it was getting bad. They couldn't hurt it like that again. And next time, Papyrus would not be so lucky.
Sans knew what he had to do. He moved to the back of the house. Where he kept the old machine locked away. Inside he saw it was still covered with that old tarp. He ripped the tarp down. "ALPHYS!" he yelled. She poked her head in after a moment. "Give me a hand Alphys... We ... We gotta. For the kids. And for Tori." ALphys knew what it was. She nodded softly and moved to help.
It took the better part of two days, working non-stop to get it up and running. Once it was, Alphys left Sans to his work. Sans left the house. He needed to clear his mind for what he was about to do. It took him an hour to get his head right so he could ask. Coming back, he got everyone in the living room. "What im about to say... Is insane. And I don't want to hear anyone object to this until you all hear me out. That thing... Is has captured a lot of souls. Its gotten really powerful. And next time it wont make the same mistake. So we have to fight it the same way it is fighting us.... And there are only two here that can really fight it." He said looking at the kids.
Alphys put her claws over her mouth in a gasp. Undyne grit her teeth, but held back her objection. Mettaton looked away. "So... Kids... Which of you will be fighting it?" Frisk was about to raise her hand when Asriel stood up. "I will. Frisk already had to do this one time. Its not fair to ask her to do it again..." Frisk was looking at Asriel. He was trembling. Terrified. But the courage it took to stand up and say that. She took his hand and held it tightly. Sans nodded. "Alright kid. Let's get you ready."
Leading Asriel into the back, he shut the door. "You know that you have to have another soul to do it right?" Asriel nodded. "Well You can have mine kid." Asriel looked up, crying. "No.. Sans no. Please don't make me." Sans knelt and put a hand on his shoulder. "Kid. You gotta. Otherwise Frisk has too. And you and I both know... She cant hurt a fly. You gotta be her big brother now. And... keep them all safe for me ok? Save your mom. Make her proud." Sans stepped into the machine. Shutting himself in, he turned on the thing. Asriel watched as it powered up.
The lights in the house flickered as it drew in so much power. The machine was designed for a single purpose. To extract the soul of a living monster. The Machine began its cycle. And Sans screamed in agony as it began breaking his body down.
Papyrus was curled up in a corner. Crying. He knew what was happening, So did Alphys. There was so much screaming that they couldn't tell if it was Asriel or Sans. Frisk stood in front of the door. Tears streaming down her face as she listened. Mettaton had tried to pull her away. But she had remained firmly rooted to the spot. After a bit longer, the sounds died down and the sound of machinery breaking could be heard. Then silence.
The door opened slowly. And out stepped Asriel. In his full and terrifying god form. But his eyes glowed like Sans had. As well he had skeletal wings. He was silent as he looked down at Frisk. She stepped forward and hugged him. He slowly knelt and hugged her back. He was still shaking. "Im gonna save momma..." he said. His voice that same deep demonic sound. But there was a tenderness to it now.
Frisk nodded and let him go. He came to Papyrus, kneeling he spoke. "You will have Sans back when this is over.... I promise." Papyrus looked up. Nodding he tried to wipe his eyes. As the group watched Asriel leave, they couldn't shake the feeling that something was going to go wrong. Frisk snuck up to the attic. Sans and Papyrus had gotten all her old things from the underground. This included her old dagger she picked up in the palace.
Once she was geared up, she snuck out the back. Following Asriel's foot steps into the forest. There she found him, standing at the spot he had once used to call home when he was a flower. Looking at him, she sighed and came out of hiding. "I wondered how long it would take you to catch up sis." He turned and smiled at her softly. She held his paw as they nodded to each other. "Alright. Let's go save momma." Frisk got a serious expression on her face.
The pair walked off into the forest further. Asriel sensing out where Chara would be. They were not going to let this go on any longer.
Or ever again..
To be continued.
