Chapter 13 - The Wheel of Fate
Location: Raven's Nest Shipyards â€" Tigris Docking Port
The docking port was just as amazing as the rest of the space station itself; it had a very long walkway which walked out over the massive shaft to the ship that was docked on the other side. However running across there at the moment, was one wolfian that was at point, a Pegasus and an echidna. Shots echoed and ricocheted against the metal walkway that led to the docking point onboard the Tigris and probably safety... that was providing that the ship still worked and was in spaceworthy condition.
Diamond ran ahead to the door as both Lance and Kestra crept into the small cover, provided by the metal pillars that held up the large walkway. They were being pursued by about twenty guard troops, all of the different races that made up the diverse Terran military.
"We really need to doors to the ship open!" shouted Lance as bullets whizzed past his head, making him turn and return fire, hitting a guard in the chest with his black, sleek handgun, a type 787 34.calibur handgun. Diamond flew down further then Kestra and Lance were providing cover, to the door on the other side, he had refused to take a gun, not wanting to kill anyone else.
The door was large and metallic, with a computer panel controlling it. Diamond tried to open the hatch like door but knew it was not going to respond without the proper code sequence and verification. He decided to dispense with that as bullets whizzed past him, making him sweat. He pulled the computer panel off the wall and began to try and hot-wire it. He had learnt these techniques from his tiger friend Remmy who was an expert at "questionable" activities within Terran Law.
Kestra looked back to see that the doors were not even open. What was taking Diamond so long, why could he not get the door open. She attempted to keep covering him as he worked, that was the only thing on her mind but she was used to situations under fire. She was also checking on Lance that seemed to impress her with his calm attitude during a battle situation.
"Got It!" shouted Diamond and the door whizzed open. Kestra frowned as she backed down towards the door. "That was extremely quick!" thought Kestra. "Not even an expert can hotwire a door that quickly."
"Come on!" shouted Diamond as they boarded the ship with haste. The corridors of the Tigris were white however they were also only half constructed with deck plates hanging from the walls and conduits that were still waiting to be packed away behind the deck-plating but were still hanging out. Diamond manipulated the control panel to close the door as soon as Kestra and Lance were through, he then borrowed Lance's gun and shot the panel. Hoping the explosion had sealed them in.
"Great..." said Lance, leaning against a white titanium deck-plating for balance and to rest. "Now what?" he asked looking slightly frustrated that getting to this ship took one battle after another and there was no guarantee that this thing would actually fly.
Kestra scouted forward as Diamond was checking that Lance was alright, she managed to find a single black panel on the wall the corresponded to what she knew to be an Internal Directory Terminal or an "IDT" which she tapped on the black panel and it bleared to life with a series of beeping.
"How do you know so much about this ship?" asked Lance looking at Kestra in a suspicious manner. He still did not trust her and only partly believed the records that he recovered during the time that him and Diamond had spent apart on the station. The records indicated that Kestra Valentine was actually, a biogenically engineered weapon that was put in to stasis when she rallied against the "gods" or Asgardians. It was also stated that she was Terra's first attempted at biogenic engineering and they had succeeded in imbuing her with Asgard powers... But so far, Lance had seen no evidence of that at all, she just seemed like a normal Terran, maybe she only had access to her "god-like" powers in her human form?
Kestra snapped back at Lance. "Can it!" she shouted immediately after. "I used to have a vessel that was the same class as the Tigris." She then looked at Diamond for acknowledgement who nodded and then continued to explain. "Apparently Terra had a past that we knew nothing about, all this..." he put out his arms to illustrate his point. "Was created by us years ago, back when Terra was a dominant space power... however we thought we could become the new Gods and started a war with the Asgard which we managed to drive them back out of Terran space but they purged our memories of those events and wiped all trace of our technology from our world leaving us in a pre-space travel state... what I find confusing is why leave this shipyard?"
Kestra thought about that for a moment, what Diamond had commented on had indeed perplexed her, after all the Asgard did to this world, why did they had not eradicate a single shipyard in orbit.
"I will tell you why" said a voice who appeared down the other end of the hallway. Kestra and Lance jumped in shock and tried to grab their guns but suddenly a wave of soldiers materialised in the room with a flash of white light. The male walked down the hallway, he was wearing black uniform which complimented his white fur, it was another Horsia, he would have looked similar to Diamond except that he was built with a lot more muscle then the other horse, he also had a tuff of black hair that came off his head and drooped down over one of his red eyes.
Kestra and Lance both looked at Diamond who did not look that surprised to see another Horsia, especially on this space station after they had all been killed. "Oh... allow me to introduce myself" he said, a sarcastic grin flushed against his face. "I am Obsidian Sonata, director of this facility... I have been here for almost five years... unfortunately, Astra did a pretty good job of lying to you... allow me to show you the truth."
Lance did not trust this person but being held at gunpoint by a number of different commandos required that he pay attention to what Obsidian was saying. He was going to say something but Kestra got there first...
"What do you mean!? You used me! You would not know the fucking truth if it bit you!" Diamond winced at the awful use of cliché that Kestra had used.
"Oh Miss Valentine... using you was not our intention... when you broke out of containment at the laboratory, you were confused, disorientated... You had no idea where you were, we were trying to help you. I am sorry about what happened to you, I sincerely apologise..."
Kestra just stood there looking unconvinced by the whole of Obsidian's soft voice and the "act of innocence" that he was putting on. "I'm not buying it..." she said with a sarcastic tone.
"Very well" repeated Obsidian who was looking directly out her with his blazing red eyes. "You might as well know the truth... all of you..."
While Kestra and Lance were listening to Obsidian, Diamond walked towards him, pulled out his gun and fired. The smoke from the pistol cleared that had been hidden in Diamond's belt, there was a bullet hole in the whole but the impact of the bullet that had gone straight through somebody's skull...
Lance's...
The wolfian fell to the floor with Kestra screaming at Diamond, the whole seconds seemed to move in slow motion as Lance fell to the floor, the bullet placed right between the eyes and Obsidian looking on as the men surrounded Kestra and pushed them back.
"And of course when I said... all of you... I meant one of you" said Obsidian as he went to put his arm tightly round Diamond. "You see, Miss Valentine, that boy was really of no use to us... you are the prize..."
Kestra's tears fell as she looked at Diamond's unfeeling face. "NO! I won't believe it! You freed me..."
"That is where you are wrong" said Diamond, he point his pistol at Kestra. "I'm an Equinus and so is Obsidian and the rest of our race... we are the chosen of the "gods" on Terra. For several years now we had been watching Terra, collecting information and communing with the Asgard about Terra's intentions but we knew that the government were beginning to discover more about their past with the all mighty ones rather they did not. However when we attempted to infiltrate the Chentrilla Government from our base on the planet and on this space-station, three of our operatives were caught... they divulged everything to them and they massacred our village and covered it up to the press."
Kestra was absolutely amazed by what she had just hear but it did not explain what it meant for her. "Obsidian and I acted quickly to carry out the will of the Gods... I went to get a job as cryptologist for Phoenix Grace, knowing already about the presence of the Valkyrie there at Everonth. Unfortunately... Remmy was about to make a breakthrough in the transcriptions, so I had to dispose of him myself... I set an elaborate trap using the advanced Terran transporter on this station, I beam down to his room, energised enough to fire a bullet at him and then redirected the beam to put me back in my tent a few minutes before Remmy was killed so I looked innocent."
Kestra collapsed on the floor... these people were traitors to the whole Terran cause and kept the Gods happy... she hated them. Diamond continued to speak. "I also managed to obtain this..." Diamond smiled, pulling out a long ciggerette? Kestra glared at it and then noticed that it had holes in the base and along one side...
"A summoning flute!" she said, knowing that was piece of Asgard technology that was extremely advanced. It was actually a molecular replicator that could bring a biological "copy" of any creature into existence.
"Yes..." chanted Diamond, his eyes beginning to flare. "So... you see, you never did anything, we just conveniently needed somebody to take the blame. Obsidian was the one that released you and fitted you with the modifier so that you follow commands. He had got pretty far in the Chentrilla Government by then and using you as a bargaining chip, he managed to bribe his way to the top ranks of the Terran Military Council... he also offered them use of this station, claiming that he had "discovered" it. But Kestra, your role was vital... I summoned both the worm that destroyed the Valkyrie and the Leviathan that levelled Chentrilla. I needed to Lance as an alibi encase anybody questioned my motives or I ever got caught but... I did something better... he fell in love with me which made him so much easier to control... I saved him before because I am not a monster... like you but now that our "escape" forced us to knock up our plans I had to dispose of him.
"BASTARD!" shouted Kestra who spat at Diamond with rage while being held by the men. Diamond wiped his face, turned and gave a dark grin. "Well thanks to my excellent performance, I managed to kill both that snoopy bitch Astra and the current President of Chentrilla... leaving Obsidian to be next in line for the presidency..."
"Wha...what... eh... do you plan... to do?" asked Kestra while being held. Obsidian gave a slight grin to Diamond before the horses grabbed each other into a passionate embrace, kissing and then turning to look at Kestra. "We are bringing the rebellious Terra, under the dominion of the gods... all the planets in the Altia Galaxy will far before the true gods... both Silmeria and Terra... are ours... and if it resists... we will destroy it..."
"But..." said Diamond, taking over from Obsidian. "Although your powers are useful... I doubt you will cooperate so... I guess you go back into storage... Take her away"
Kestra tried to fight but it was completely in vain, she looked back at the two horses as they spread out both their wings, Diamonds were perfect white and Obsidians were perfect black... a fantastic contrast. Kestra was pulled away by the masses of commandos, leaving only Diamond, Obsidian and a dead Lance in the room.
"This is it my love" said Obsidian showing a beautiful grin at Diamond. Diamond smiled and looked back at his lover. "Yes, we have served the Gods and nobody will challenge them again. Inform the fleet that the invasion of Terra will proceed and that all significant world leaders have been disposed of. Then tell them that mining operations for the stone is ready to commence..."
Diamond could not believe that this moment was happening, actually he had a lot of confidence, he was in the glory of the gods now. A noble servant of the divine, he had always been that but it had been a long and difficult journey to get from where he was to this place in his life. He held onto Obsidian for he loved him with all his heart, nothing was going to take him away from him.
Epilogue
Over the next few days a number of huge Asgardian warship invaded Terra and began to put the people of Terra to work as slaves. Silmeria had fallen back into line too but somewhere, far out in the cosmos, Eclypse and few others had survived and were opposing the oppression of the Asgard with all the will of the universe. On board the small ship, Terra Nova the dream of freedom was alive.
