#2 of Valkyrie - Pegasus - Book 2 - The Hand of Gods
Chapter 2 â€" Occupation
"Hail be the Gods, may their compassion and their light be a source of strength to me" - Traditional Terran Prayer
Location: Terran Labour Camp 045 â€" Terra.
Diamond struggled to find a reason to the let him go free. He had been sat in this room with a Dragon staring at him for the last twelve hours. The Dragon was green and wearing a black jacket covering his white scales on his belly and jeans with a fat rip in them to poke out his large scaly tail. Diamond himself had sat here as the ashtray piled with cigarette ends from the both of them.
"Look, I'm telling ya!" said the Dragon. "I knew no'thin about that". Diamond folded his arms and wondered why this was continually going in one big loop. He felt like he was trapped in a causality paradox.
"The Asgard know that you were behind it... We know that you stole the food from the camp... We brought you up here to question you..."
"Enough" as Obsidian stormed through the door into the room looking from the Dragon to Diamond. The room seemed like an interrogation chamber of an old police station, there was only one table in the room and a large mirror that was infact a one way glass window. "Diamond... we don't have time for this... The fleet has been ordered to the last whereabouts of the Terra Nova, we must find it..."
Diamond finished his cigarette and then got up from the table, going to stare Obsidian right in the eyes as he approached him to whisper.
"Why are the gods so concerned about these ships... I thought they were digging for the artefacts both here and on Silmeria, that is why they needed these planets? Surely one ship is not a problem?"
Obsidian stared back at Diamond as if he was stupid. "Diamond, we do whatever the Gods command, we do not worry ourselves with their motives. Now, take the Tigris and let us get going..."
"And what about him?" Diamond nudged towards the Dragon who was sat at the table.
"Is he guilty?" asked Obsidian, a slight glint in his eye made Diamond feel worried about if he said yes.
"Erm... well he did steal the food, the video confirmed it... but" he continued, quickly jumping to the Dragon's defence. "But can you really blame him, they are underfed and working ridiculously hard under these conditions."
Obsidian just stared long and hard at Diamond, he was detecting a note of sympathy which he did not like. In his mine, these were servants of the "Gods" and Diamond should not have wasted his time being sympathetic towards them.
"We don't have time for this" commented Obsidian in a low voice. "Come on". He gestured to the door of the room.
"And what about him? should I send him back?" asked Diamond, Obsidian then turned to him and gave him a look that would send shivers down him spine.
"Have him executed" said Obsidian quickly and still whispering over to Diamond. Diamond felt like he had swallowed at lemon.
"WHAT!?" he shouted, the dragon poked his head up from the table in surprise. Obsidian looked surprised at Diamond too but he stood there looking straight in the white pegasus eyes.
Obsidian sighed, Diamond was acting strangely again, over the last few weeks he had begun to question the Gods commands, he had also been questioning his own wisdom of shooting Lance and having Kestra imprisioned again. His betrayal had been so perfect however Obsidian felt that he was loosing his touch, his nights with Diamond had not been filled with passion like they used to be but instead they had stopped sleeping together. Diamond claimed that it was working keeping him up but Obsidian knew otherwise.
"None of the Terrans must revolt against the system, otherwise we would surely have chaos" whispered Obsidian after a long silence. Diamond looked at Obsidian with an almost cowering look, he stared as if he was going to make a plea.
"Obsidian, this guy could be useful serving on the Tigris" said Diamond. Obsidian instantly sighed and put his hands in the air as he walked out the room. "Whatever Diamond, but if he steps out of line once... he's dead... the gods cannot use those that will not serve."
Diamond felt relieved and went back to the table with Dragon sat down at, he leaned over the table and said.
"Your punishment has been decided...."
The Dragon looked up, slightly fearful of what Diamond was going to say. "You will serve aboard my flagship, Tigris, your records indicate that you are quite good with computers."
The Dragon snarled at the request, Diamond was going to take him away from his family, his parents who were being worked to death at one of many archaeological sights all over Terra. He hated the Asgard so much, he just wanted to kill Diamond at this very moment, he was the most hated of the collaborators on Terra. The Aesir may have kept control but it was Diamond and Obsidian that made all the decisions, like Obsidian had ordered random executions in response to an act of terrorism committed against the Gods.
"Mr... Blackfire" said Diamond, looking relentlessly at the Dragon who stared up at him with thoughts of murder. "Don't look like that, I just bought you your life"
