Hotel Check-In

It was business as usual at Twilight books following the Loli's introducing themselves to Spec. Things didn't pick up till Wednesday, when the new books and magazine came out. Spec and Penny would text each other through out the week but he worried when she didn't show up on Friday night. He sent her a text after closing the shop to make sure she was okay. It didn't take long for her to send a reply.

"I won't be able to come over tonight, I've got a Girl Sprout thing I need to attend. I can swing by Saturday though. I miss you."

Spec smiled as he read her message and replied back, "Okay, see you Saturday." He sat the his phone down and watched the news as a certain story caught his attention.

"Former mall security guard and alleged child molester, Mary Ford was arraigned in court today. His trial is scheduled to start next week as both the defense and prosecution prepare their cases as the jury selection process has begun."

Spec shuddered as the thought of what would happen if anyone found out about him and Penny. It was at that point he thought to himself, "Man, I really hope Penny and her friends aren't part of this some how." He sighed and decided it would be better to not dwell on it. He finished the rest of the news program and made some pasta with a simple meat sauce for dinner before showering and going to sleep.

Spec woke up the next morning to the sound of his phone going off. It wasn't his alarm but rather a phone call. He blinked as his eyes could barely make out the name as he answered.

"Hello?"

"Hey Spec, it's Penny. Are you still asleep?"

"Kind of, what's up?"

"Well I was wondering if you would be up soon. I was going to swing by and see you."

"That's fine, I'll be in a bit. Just gotta brush my teeth and get dressed."

"Okay, I'll see you soon."

Spec walked downstairs to let Penny in from the side entrance of the building. He let Penny climb the stairs first as they had a conversation.

"So how did your Girl Sprout thing go last night?"

"It was interesting but we got what we need to do done. It's usually fun when hanging out with the girls."

"That's good. So what do you want to do today?" He asked as they entered his apartment. She put her bag down next to the couch as she took a seat.

"Well I was thinking we could just relax here today and have a small party. Maybe some chips, soda and some pizza."

"Sure we can do that. I have Ax cola in the fridge but I don't have any chips. Is there any flavor you like?"

"Could you get three big bags of regular, barbecue, and sour cream? Oh and a two liter of orange and root beer?" She said with a nervous smile. Spec looked at her with a confused look but he replied "okay... Do you want to come with me?"

"If it's okay with you, can I stay here? I'm a little tired from walking over here."

"Okay, I'll be back in a bit I guess. If you want a snack or a drink you know where they are. Just use a step stool to get to the cups if you need to. My music player is in the bedroom on the night stand."

"Okay Spec I'll see you in a bit." She said as he left. When the door was closed Penny started to type out a message on her phone.

"He's gone and should be for a while. Try to be here in five to ten minutes."

Spec took a bit longer then he wanted to as he didn't return for forty five minutes. He had the chips and soda Penny asked for as well as some cheese and bread for himself as he felt like making fondue for some reason. He made his way up the stairs and checked to see if the door was locked still. It wasn't as he opened the door only to be surprised by what he saw.

Penny said "Surprise..." weakly as Spec saw six other girls, three of which he never seen before. He remembered the twin albino rabbits and Betty, who was doing several advanced yo-yo tricks while wearing gloves by the kitchen table. All of the girls waved at Spec and said "Hi" as he waved back.

"Hello everyone. Penny, may I have a word with you in the bed room?" He asked as he sat his bags down on the kitchen table. His eyes met with Betty's as she began blowing a bubble from the piece of gum she was chewing. Penny was already in the bedroom as Spec entered.

"Okay Penny, I'm not mad so much as confused. What is going on here?"

"Well, when me and the girls had to do that Sprouts thing last night, they were asking about you and our new safe house. Eventually everyone wanted to see your place so I said we could all visit today."

Spec sighed as he looked at the wall, towards the living room. He sat down next to Penny who was sitting on the bed.

"So those are the girls I'm going to be working with eh?"

"Yeah. They can be a little weird sometimes, but they are good girls."

"Well as good as a bunch of jail bait criminals can be."

Penny chuckled under her breath as Spec slapped and rubbed his knees before standing up. He said "Let's go meet them." and walked out into the living room. Penny followed and began introducing the girls, starting with the mouse looking through Spec's things on his shelf.

"This is Sunshine, but we all call her Sunny. She is good at spying on people and other groups for us." Penny said as she gestured towards Sunny. The mouse looked up at Spec as she ran her fingers along one of the bookshelves as she said "Hi." She tilted her head and smiled at Spec. He got the feeling that she was trying to read him. He acted as if he didn't notice, simply waving back with a polite "Hi." Penny tugged on Spec's arm to lead him away as Sunny started to look through his belongings again.

Next up were the albino rabbit twins. They smiled and greeted Spec with a drawn out "Hello." in unison. Penny continued the introduction as she could tell Spec was a bit uneasy at the twins behavior.

"From what I've heard, you've met the twins already. Anna and Emma are our runners. They pick up and drop off messages and packages as needed. Depending how much business we do, you'll be seeing them a lot."

"It's good to see you" "Again Spec. We look forward" "to seeing you more."

Spec tried to keep from making a distressed face as he said. "As do I." He leaned down and whispered to Penny, "Do that do this twin thing a lot?" "All the time." she whispered back. Spec moaned at her response as they continued on.

Two more girls sat on the couch. A red fox who was reading a book and a young pig who was playing with a wooden puzzle box. Penny started with the fox.

"This is Rika. She is our girl when it comes to distractions or getting into difficult places. She can be weird some times but she's sweet with good intentions."

"I'm not weird Penny. By the way Spec, this book isn't very accurate. I mean there is no way you can summon a demon with some dice rolls."

Spec was confused by what she said as she checked the cover of the book she was reading.

"Rika, you do realize you are reading a Stronghold and Serpents GM manual right?"

Rika double checked the cover before reading again.

"I see, it's a recent edition. The manuals they had back in the seventies were much more accurate. Hey, can I have some of your fur?"

"What?" exclaimed Spec as Penny interrupted. "No Rika, you are not getting any of his fur. I don't care if its for some love slash sex ritual you have planned." Rika sighed and continued reading while saying "You're no fun Penny." Penny let out an annoyed growl and moved on.

"And this is Kelly. She likes to tinkering with things and has incredible people skills. She keeps track of our connections and can usually find us some body that can get us what we need with little to no trouble."

"Hi Spec. This is a nice place you have here. Hope we can get along."

"I'm sure we will Kelly. Good to meet you."

Spec thought to himself, "Thank god a normal one besides Penny." as he walked to the kitchen area where Betty was still doing tricks with her yo-yo.

"I'm sure you remember Betty. She's our group enforcer. If anyone gives us a hard time or tries to threaten us, they usually answer to her."

Betty gave Spec a mixed look as she blew another bubble from her gum. Spec was impressed that she could do tricks with out looking. When her bubble popped she spoke.

"Good to see you again Spec."

"Same to you Betty."

Spec wasn't sure if she liked him or not from her tone. He went to the fridge to get a can of Ax cola. He sat down on one side of the kitchen table as Penny took a seat on the opposite side while petting Rosie the rock.

"You really like that rock, don't you?"

"She's cute. So what do you think of the girls?"

"Well the twins and their finishing each others sentences will take some getting use to but I'll manage. How do you tell them apart?"

Penny was about to answer when they heard Sunny call out from across the room, "Hey, I found his pot stash!" Penny and Spec yelled back "Put that box back!" at the same time. The sudden shouting startled Betty and caused her to jerk her yo-yo string too hard. Everyone heard Betty yell "LOOK OUT!" as the projectile yo-yo was now headed directly towards Spec's potted rose plant.

Penny backed away to avoid getting hit but Spec reached out with his left hand to catch the yo-yo out of reflex and instinct. A loud smack came from his hand as he barely stopped the yo-yo from making contact. He yelled out "SHIT!" as he dropped it from his hand. The yo-yo made a loud metallic sound as it fell and hit Rosie. Spec shook his hand violently as he examined the yo-yo.

"What the hell, is that thing made of steel?"

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" Betty asked as all the girls rushed over to check on Spec. Penny was the closest, and got to him first as she took his hand. There was a dark bruise that showed from under his fur that ran under his middle and ring finger. Spec was able to flex his finger as he held his soda can in his hand to try and numb the pain. Penny went for her back pack and brought it back, and sat it on the table.

"Give my your hand Spec, I'm gonna wrap it for you."

"I'm fine Penny I don't need..." Spec stopped as he saw a mask in Penny's backpack. He pulled it out to see it was a frosted Cupid mask with exaggerated make up patterns and fabric over the eye hole that allowed the wearer to see while concealing the wearer's eyes. He turned the mask around while examining it before asking, "Do I want to know what this for?" All of the girls let out a low moan as they tried to figure out what to say. Spec shook his hand and sighed as he said, "Forget I asked." and put it back into Penny's bag.

"Please don't be mad at me Spec I didn't mean for it to go flying like that." Betty said with a concerned tone. Spec looked at her and sighed. He could tell all the girls were worried in some way or another. He flexed his hand a couple of more times before handing it to Penny.

"Go ahead and wrap it up Penny. Don't worry Betty, I know you didn't mean to do it. Just, if you are are going to practice indoors be a little more careful okay?"

"Okay..." Betty replied, a little sheepish. There was a rush of relief that flowed through her and the other girls. Penny seemed more concerned with Spec then anyone else as she finished wrapping his hand.

"How's it feel, not too tight is it?" She asked hoping her first aid training from the Sprouts would be useful. Spec flexed his hand, as it did feel much better.

"It's fine Penny, thank you."

"Sorry to interrupt, but where is the bathroom?" Rika asked as she popped up out of no where. She startled Spec a bit. "That door around the corner on the left, through the bed room. Use any towel you see hanging to dry your hands when you are done." He said while pointing towards the hall. Rika thanked the wolf as she just a quickly disappeared. Spec looked to Penny while flexing his hand again.

"You weren't kidding when you said she could get in and out of places easily. "

"Yep. She's our secret weapon when it comes to being sneaky." Penny replied as the girls started to calm down. Betty approached Spec after removing the yo-yo string and gloves from her hands.

"I'm really sorry Spec."

"It's okay Betty. I've had worse happen to my hands in the military I can still move it and I'm sure the swelling and aching will pass soon. I know to just let that thing go flying next time. But do me a favor, and next time you practice inside make sure there is nothing that you can easily break around okay?"

"Okay." She replied with a small smile. There was something about the way he spoke to her that sent a warm sensation though out her body. Betty noticed Rika returning from the bath room. It looked like Rika was taking her hand out of her pocket. Betty decided not to say anything to Spec or Penny as the mood was starting to lighten. She casually took the fox to the side to talk to her.

"What did you take Rika?"

"I took a little bit of his fur from his brush. I promise I'm not going to do anything bad to him. I'm just gonna give him a little boost. Believe me, Penny wont complain."

Betty sighed but decided to let Rika off the hook for now. She walked back to the couch and had a seat on the floor next to Spec. The wolf flexed his hand again as he was unsure if it was getting better or worse. He sighed and looked at all the girls, scared of what he was about to ask.

"I'm getting hungry. So, what do you girls want on your pizza?"

All of the girls erupted at once as they listed off what they wanted. Spec couldn't make out what the girls were saying and had to put up his hands to get their attention.

"One at a time girls. Penny, I already know what you like, I assume you want the same."

Penny nodded as Spec got a pen and paper to write down the other girl's orders.

"Okay, Kelly how about you? What do you want on your pizza?"

"Pineapple and bacon please."

Spec's mouth dropped slightly as he slowly repeated the young pig's order. "You want pineapple and bacon on your pizza?" Kelly nodded with a genuine smile. Spec looked at the girls while thinking "Is she serious?" All of the other girls nodded silently as if they could read his mind. Kelly looked at Spec with a confused look.

"Is something wrong Spec?"

"It's nothing Kelly. Just I don't know many girls who like pineapple on their pizza."

Spec did his best to act natural as he wrote down the order. Between a pig that liked to eat bacon, a fox that was into the occult, and twins that seemed to share a mental link, he realized this was a rather unique group of girls. Never mind the fact they also run an organized crime gang.

"Betty, what do you want on you pizza?"

"Meat lovers please." She replied with a slight smile. Spec took the rest of the girls orders before calling it in.
