It Was A Good Day
Get ready this is a longer story and doozy, I've been holding on to this one for a while
Thor walked into his apartment, and there was a particular pep in the German Shepherd's step. He was trying to whistle, but he wasn't doing too well. This fact was making him laugh at himself a bit.
"You're in a good mood." Jax said as Thor walked over to him, and he wrapped his arms around the shepherd's neck and Thor wrapped his arm around the doberman's waist. He nodded, then kissed him.
"It's been an amazing day. The boss finally approved a few device upgrades at work, and then the dispensary finally had a restock of that bud I love so much, and then they had some new edibles for me to try. It's key lime flavor, and it's sativia too." Thor rambled on, and Jax couldn't help but chuckle as the shepherd kept going. While Thor kept talking, Jax started running his fingers through the shepherd's neck fur. Thor always took impeccable care of his fur, and it was always super soft. He just smiled as he let the German Shepherd ramble on.
After what felt like an eternity, Jax finally got the shepherd to sit down and stop talking. Only because he had dinner on the stove and didn't want to burn it again. If he burned it again, he wouldn't hear the end of it from Thor and the folf. The folf was sitting on the couch watching cartoons and for someone who was pretty aloof and just all around goofy, the Folf was a mean cook, and so was Thor. Jax had a lot on the line with this meal.
"Hey hun. Have you seen my grinder?" Thor asked, sticking his head out of the bedroom door.
"Which one?" Silver and Jax asked, almost in unison, making them laugh a bit. They were also laughing at the fact that the shepherd has four different grinders and is constantly losing one of them.
"The purple one. It still has; never mind, found it." Thor said as he disappeared back into his room. Jax just chuckled a bit and shook his head. He then walked over behind the couch and leaned over it, looking down at the folf, and asked, "Will Alejandro be joining us for dinner tonight?" Even though Silver and Alejandro had been dating for a few months, any mention of the cheetah still made the folf giddy and blush deeply.
"Not tonight; he has to work a double since his replacement called in with the flu and no one else can cover." Silver said. Jax then reached down and ruffled the fur on top of the folf's head.
“Dinner will be ready in a few minutes." Jax said as he walked back into the kitchen.
After the group had finished eating dinner, Jax sat on the couch with an arm around Thor's shoulder as they watched TV and Silver finished up the dishes. The only noise in the apartment was the noise from the TV. The silence was broken by a sudden knock at the door, making everyone jump.
“I'll get it; I'm already up." Silver said he walked to the door. He opened the door, and on the other side stood a deer and a panther, the panther looking a tad uneasy.
“How can I help you?" Silver asked, looking at the two.
“My name is Allan, and this is my husband, Stan," the Panther said, introducing himself and the deer. “I'm looking for a gentleman that goes by the name Alex." Allan said as he started fidgeting with his fingers.
“There's no Alex in this apartment." the Folf said a bit cautiously, but eased up as Jax stood next to him.
“Right, he likes to be called Alexander." Allan said.
“Still, no Alexander here. I think you have the wrong apartment." Silver said this before Jax could say anything.
“Pup, Alexander is Thor's real name." Jax said, looking at the folf and chuckling a bit. Before he could say anything else, a growl started to fill the apartment. Jax and Silver looked at each other, unsure where it was coming from. They turned around as they realized that the growling was coming from Thor, who stood behind them trembling, growling at the two standing in the doorway. His eyes fixed directly on the Panther, tears blurring his sight. His snowy white fur stood on end. There was a calmness to the shepherd as he walked over to the door. “Please move." Thor said to his roommates “Doggy." Jax said nervously as he put a hand on Thor's chest. Thor shook his head and took the hand off his chest. Jax nodded at Silver, and they cautiously moved to the side. Thor stood in front of the Panther, standing a good few inches taller.
“What the fuck do you want?" Thor asked through gritted teeth, his voice and body shaking. “I told you I never wanted to see you again. And why the fuck did he bring you here?" Thor growled at the deer. “Did he bring you to rub this all in my face?" The deer looked like he wanted to run far away from this situation. “Stan, please go wait in the car." Allan said, turning to the deer.
“Are you sure?" Stan asked, and the Panther nodded. He walked off to sit in the car. “Is there any way we can do this privately?" Allan asked. Jax looked at Thor, who nodded in return.
“Hey Pup, let's go get some ice cream at the corner shop." Jax said, putting a hand on Silver's shoulder. Silver looked at Thor, walked over to the German Shepherd, and hugged him tight. Jax then led the Folf out the door and to the ice cream shop. When the two were out of sight, Thor motioned for Allan to enter the apartment.
Thor wiped the tears from his eyes and took a deep breath, then looked right into the Panther's eyes. “Why are you here?" he asked, trying to remain calm. While looking into Thor's eyes, he noticed all the years of hatred and hurt behind the shepherd's eyes. “I came here to apologize," he said, looking down to avoid Thor's eyes. “I didn't realize you were still so angry even after all these years. If I had known, I wouldn't have come." A blank expression came across Thor's face, and then before he realized what was happening, he started laughing, a deep, booming laugh. Then sudden laughter shocked the Panther.
“You want to apologize? That's fantastic! Do you realize what I went through for you? I came out to my family for you! My dad's parents disowned us after they wouldn't disown me. We struggled for years after that!" he yelled. Allan was shocked when he heard what Thor had gone through for him. He had to fight back the tears welling up in his eyes. “You never told me that." Allan said it quietly. “My parents didn't want word to get out that they were struggling for my sister and me." Thor wiped another tear after he composed himself a bit. “You know, for a long time, I was still holding on to those feelings, and after a while, I just kept them buried just below the surface. Then I met that handsome Doberman, Jax, you just met. Then those same feelings came rushing back to the top because I was scared he'd treat me the same way you had done." Thor took a deep breath and wiped his eyes as he felt the tears starting to swell again. “Then I learned he wasn't going to do that to me. He was there for me when I saw your engagement photos, even while he was dealing with his own divorce." Allan was shocked when he heard Thor mention the photos.
“How'd you see those?" Allan asked.
“You had Lily take them; we're still friends. I saw them on her business account." Thor said as he started to shake again. He quickly walked to his recliner and took a seat. He then motioned to the couch, signaling to Allan that it was okay for him to sit. Thor looked up at the ceiling and let out a shuddered breath, then looked over at Allan.
“Look, I understand how hard this probably was for you, and in a sick twist of fate, I do accept your apology, and I'm not sure how far you came from, but I'm going to ask you to leave. Every step forward I take to get past you, something always comes and ruins that progress. In the near future, I wouldn't mind trying to mend everything, but please just go." Thor said, and this time he didn't fight the tears; he let them pour down his face.
“I understand and thank you. I hope you have a fantastic future with Jax, and maybe one day we can sit down and have a drink with all four of us together." Allan said as he too finally stopped holding back his own tears and let them stream down his face hugging his arms to himself. He quickly left the apartment, and with the door shut everything felt final to the panther. He quickly made his way to the car with Stan waiting for him, and he started sobbing uncontrollably while the deer held him close, holding the panther's head to his chest.
Somewhere on a nearby bench, Jax and Silver watched for the Panther to leave the apartment. As they saw him leaving down the stairs that lead to their apartment, the two quickly made their way back to their apartment. Inside, they found Thor standing over the sink holding what was a brand new bottle of whiskey, which was now half empty. His bright green eyes blood shot, and his cheeks were soaked with his tears. “I hate him so much, but why do I feel so much better?" Thor sobbed as he dropped the bottle of whiskey and walked over to the doberman, who hugged the shepherd tight. Jax laid Thor's head on his own shoulders “Let it all out. I've got you, Doggy. I've got you," he whispered to the sobbing Shepherd.
