Chapter 20??? :O

Guess who's back... back again... 'Lijah's back... tell some friends! I'll stop. XD But eyyyy I'm back! I hope everybody had a fantastic holiday, I know I did! Lots of new clothes and games 'n stuff, but it's finally time to get back into the swing of things. For those of you who read but are not watching me then you may not have seen my update journal where I posted a couple important things about my update schedule. Please for those of you who have not read it... go read it! And because I'm nice and love you all I'll even summarize it here! Because college for me is starting back once again next week I will be short on writing time! So my new schedule for uploads will now be weekly for each story! Silent Soul like today's chapter will go up on Mondays, In My Time of Need will be going up either Wednesday or Thursday, and my new story Stranded which will be also starting next week will go up on either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday depending on which day is least busy. I posted a teaser yesterday (Sunday) for the new story, so be sure to go check it out! You might be interested! But that's enough rambling out of me, here's the chapter, hope you enjoy, and I'll see you at the bottom of the page!

The week went by quickly, pretty uneventful unless you count the endless cuddle sessions between Jasper and I which I'll say were quite nice. Sometimes we talked, but other times we simply laid there and held each other close, trying to time up our breathing with one another.

I was excited because not only was today Friday, otherwise known as lab day for me, but Jasper had been mentioning all week about some sort of surprise tonight after I got back. I could only guess at what he could be planning as the hints he'd dropped were very vague. Lost deep in thought I was startled by a soft paw coming down lightly on my shoulder. Turning to my left I was met with the amused look of Sebastian.

“Oh hey Bastian, didn't see you there." I said with a sheepish grin.

“I called you like three times, what's on your mind?" He asked, the amused look never fading.

“Jasper's been going on about some surprise he's been planning for this Friday but he won't tell me what it is." I pouted.

“Well if he told you that would ruin the surprise, can't have that right?" He replied.

“I guess, but I still have no idea what he's up to. I'm not sure if I should be excited or scared." I responded with a chuckle. The blast of cool air was refreshing as we entered the building together. I could tell the teacher hadn't arrived yet as the class was still waiting outside of the hall conversing amongst themselves.

The only two not talking however happened to be our two groupmates, Kylee and Vinesah. I frowned slightly at them but the frown was replaced by a friendly smile as the chinchilla waved towards Sebastian and I. We both waved back and our hand motions seemed to catch Kylee's attention as well as she glanced up to offer a half wave before returning her gaze to the ground. I watched Sebastian's demeanor falter slightly but said nothing as we approached.

“Hey girls, ready for three more hours of lab work?" I said sarcastically. “I don't see why this is a required class in the first place, it's so boring." Kylee stated.

“It's part of the application process really. We can sit and waste away in those lectures learning but the information is useless if you don't know how to apply it, that make sense?" Sebastian replied.

“I guess, I just wish it wasn't such a long class…" She answered. I stayed quiet during the conversation, as did the chinchilla who had maneuvered her way to stand closer to me.

“I don't think it's that bad, it could be worse if you think about it. Imagine the people who have to get up Monday morning to come do this." I commented with a light chuckle.

“Yeah no thanks, I prefer this over Monday morning." Sebastian replied. We chit-chatted idly for a few more minutes, still waiting for the professor to arrive.

Finally after almost 20 minutes of waiting somebody called out through the crowd of students, “She just cancelled class for personal reasons, we can leave." A wave of cheers and some groans travelled through the hallway as we all funneled back out through the doorway.

“Well now what?" I asked the group. It was true, I really had no idea what we were supposed to do.

“We can go eat I guess, I didn't eat before I came to lab." Sebastian suggested.

“Sure, I'll text Jasper and see if he wants to come." I replied, retrieving my phone from my pocket. I sent him a quick text to have him meet us at the dining hall, but the reply I got back was not what I expected.

“Jasper told me not to eat for some reason. Apparently he wants me to wait I guess." I explained. The reply got puzzled looks from everybody.

“Maybe it has something to do with tonight's surprise…?" Sebastian exclaimed.

“Maybe… well we can still go, I just won't eat I guess." I told them. So with plan in hand we made our way to the dining hall, Kylee and Sebastian chatting in front of us while Vinesah still walked next to me behind them.

“You haven't said much, you okay?" I asked her quietly, slowing my pace to get out of earshot of the other two.

“I'm okay, just nervous around her." She replied. I stole a glance to the duo in front of us and seeing that they were engaged in a conversation of their own I took the opportunity to do a little bit of detective work.

“Did something happen between you two?" I questioned. She was quiet for a few seconds, ears twitching as she formed her answer. Upon seeing the moisture begin to fill her eyes however, I knew this had to be sorted out now.

Glancing ahead I called out, “Hey you two go ahead we'll be there in a few minutes." I told them. Sebastian gave a thumbs up and pulled Kylee along with him. I bent over slightly so I could speak to her face to face.

“If you really don't want to talk about it I won't make you, but I'm willing to listen if you wanna tell me." I told her sincerely. Her light green eyes locked with my own soft silver ones for a few moments before nodding hesitantly.

“Kylee and I used to be really good friends; sleepovers, shopping, hanging out, you name it, we did it. We were essentially attached at the hip." She started, a smile tugging at the edges of her mouth which evaporated with her next few sentences. She brought her tail around to the front and began wringing it apprehensively. “My parents were both international business workers. A couple years ago when they were on their way back from England to the United States… their plane went down." She admitted sadly, the moisture threatening to spill over again.

I had to fight back tears of my own and I could only stare sadly at her, ears pinned to my head and tail tucking slightly. I remembered seeing the story on the news, it was enough to make national headlines. My heart broke for the tiny chinchilla at her confession, it was no easy feat to tell somebody how their parents died.

She shuffled closer to me and without hesitation I pulled her in for a hug, letting her tears dampen my light hoodie I was wearing. A deep breath told me she was ready to continue, so I released her so she could speak.

“When I received the news, needless to say I fell apart. A part of me died with them really, and because of this I went into a really dark dark place. This of course affected my relationship with Kylee. I had to drop out of that year of high school, which paired with losing access to my phone destroyed our friendship. When I came back the next year, things just weren't the same. She moved on, and when I confronted her about it, she kinda just… tossed me to the side. I don't understand why she was so upset at me, she had to understand… right?" She finished her explanation with a question.

“Did you ever tell her what happened?" I asked her in response. She was quiet for another moment before speaking.

“You're the first person I've willingly told, outside of having to mention it in places where it was required." She told me.

“Well, maybe she feels hurt that you didn't trust her enough to tell her." I replied.

“Maybe… it's just such a hard thing for me to talk about. It took a lot just to tell you, and it's been years since it happened." She responded.

I nodded, “It is hard to talk about, but even though it hurts so much to tell people about my mom, I feel so much better afterwards when I get it out. Don't you feel better now that you've had the chance to talk about it and reflect on it?" I asked her.

“Yeah, a little. I really should tell her, but she doesn't want anything to do with me." She said sadly.

“Oh I think we could reason with her, especially if we get Sebastian involved." I replied with a grin. The frown on her face slowly faded and soon a smile was squirming across her features as well.

“Thanks for being such a good friend Elijah." She exclaimed quietly.

“Hey, don't ever be afraid to talk to me about stuff okay? I'll always be here to listen." I told her.

“Now come on, let's go eat. Well not me but you." I added. Kylee and Sebastian were finishing up their meals when we arrived and I decided to join them while Vinesah got her food.

“What was that all about?" Sebastian asked curiously.

“Oh nothing much, she just wanted to get something off her chest." I replied. My response drew a snort from the ferret beside him, and I let out a warning growl towards her.

“Considering it's mainly about you I wouldn't be snorting." I told her.

“Why are you talking to her about me? There's nothing left to talk about between her and I." She stated harshly.

“And that's the sad part, you don't even know the half of it." I commented.

“Guys… come on now." Sebastian made an attempt at quelling the argument, and the huff from Kylee alerted me that he'd succeeded. My muzzled opened in a wide yawn and I sighed glancing at the clock.

“It's only 6:00…? For a Friday this has been a slow day." I exclaimed.

“I think we're all a bit frazzled by the professor cancelling class, it's not like we made plans for if it got cancelled." Sebastian replied.

“Something like that I guess." I replied, throwing a glance over my right shoulder.

“Where did Vinesah go?" I asked worriedly.

“I'm right here." I heard a small voice say to my left. I nearly fell from my seat as I whirled around to face the chinchilla who was gazing amusedly at my comical expression.

“I didn't even hear you walk up! Heck I didn't even see you!" I exclaimed. She simply shrugged, before shoving multiple French fries into her mouth and grinning around them. I giggled at her, enjoying this side of her much more than the quiet reserved side.

I was startled again when my phone rattled across the table, notifying me that somebody had just sent me a message. My heart fluttered as I realized it was my special wolf who sent it.

'You said you got out of class early right?' The message read.

'Yup, sitting here watching everybody eat with envy' I replied back. A few moments later the phone rattled again.

'You'll be glad you didn't eat, trust me. ;P' He responded.

'What are you planning mister, I'm hungry! XD' I sent back.

'Why don't you come back here and shower, you'll want to look good for later. (; ' He messaged back.

'I'm on my way wuffy, this surprise had better be good…' I replied.

'It will be, I promise!' I grinned at his response before shoving my phone back in my pocket and grabbing my bag.

“Jasper said it would be fine to head back, he wants me to grab a shower because apparently we're going somewhere." I told the group. The three all exchanged glances before all staring at me in unison.

“Elijah you can't be that oblivious, put the pieces together! He doesn't want you to eat, he wants you to look nice, and he plans on going somewhere…" Kylee explained. I felt a redness fill my ears as I blushed upon realizing what he had planned. A goofy grin spread across my face as well.

“A dinner date?" I asked although I knew the answer already.

“Ding ding ding! We have a winner ladies and gentleman!" She replied. I giggled at her response and I quickly waved goodbye giddy to get back and get ready. Numerous emotions ran through me as I walked briskly back to the dorm. Nervousness was the most prominent of them all, this would be our first date after all and I wanted to look nice.

Once I reached the room I pushed the door open and was greeted with the pleasant sight of Jasper in the middle of getting dressed. He yelped and covered himself, but relaxed upon seeing me.

“Could have knocked you know, almost made me have a heart attack!" He said, but his grin told me it was in good humor.

“Don't need to cover up in front of me silly, not like I haven't seen everything behind those clothes anyways." I replied with a wink as I gathered up my shower gear.

“Well it would seem that you're a little overdressed, it's only fair right?" He exclaimed, wrapping his arms around my midsection and hugging me into him.

“Feel like giving me a hand?" I teased, turning my head to face him. He gazed expectantly at me and I understood what he was asking for. “Pweeeease?" I drawled out, letting my ears flop to the side.

“Only because you asked nicely." He replied sliding his hands underneath my shirt to rub my bare stomach. I growled happily at the attention, holding my hands up to allow Jasper to slide the shirt over my head. He nibbled lightly on my neck causing me to shiver excitedly, but I couldn't let him get of track.

“Focus wuffy… save that for later." I told him. He snickered slightly and his hands moved to my lower back, his deft fingers quickly unlatching the button just above my tail, followed by the button in the front as well. The strip tease continued as he slowly drew down the zipper of my jeans. Lost in the moment, I didn't notice at first when I felt his fingers hook inside the waistband of my boxers in which I was forced to swat the invasive paw away.

“Nah ah ah, the boxers stay on. I want to look decent on my way to the shower." I told him.

“Are you sure?" He whispered in my ear, causing me to shudder once again.

“Unfortunately… yes." I sighed contentedly as I stepped out of the jeans that had pooled at my feet.

“Aww that's no fun though." He mock pouted.

“Save the fun for later, I want whatever you've got planned for tonight to be special." I told him.

“Oh it will be. Go hurry and shower so we can get going." He responded. I nodded and took the opportunity to finish grabbing my gear and making the long walk down the hall to the showers. Surprisingly the showers were actually fairly crowded, I was lucky enough to grab the last shower before it became occupied.

I made sure to double wash my coat, wanting it to retain the glossy look that had been fading over the last couple days. Securing the towel around my waist I stepped out of the shower and yelped in surprise when I found one of the hyena twins standing outside the stall.

“Oh hey Dan! Or Zan? I can't tell with you two." I exclaimed.

“It's Zan, I was about to drag you outta there by the tail, you took forever! Why such a long shower hmmm? Needed to take care of some 'business'?" He replied with a snicker. I blushed madly at his comment, shaking my head vigorously.

“No, just wanted to look extra nice for tonight, date night." I told him.

“Oooh who's the lucky lady?" He asked, adding an eyebrow wiggle for good measure. I froze momentarily realizing my predicament, but I figured that they would find out eventually so it would be best to just get it over with.

“Well… it's not actually a lucky lady…" I confessed. To my surprise and great relief, Zan didn't miss a beat.

“Oh! Wait so are you and Jasper…?" He trailed off quietly with a sly grin.

“Yeah, we are." I finished his thought.

“Dude that's awesome, hope you guys have a good time. Did he say where he was taking you yet?" He questioned.

“Nope, I don't have the slightest clue, he's been planning it all week though." I responded.

“Well that's pretty cool dude, hope you have fun! Tell him I said hello would ya?" He said before stepping into the shower.

“Will do, talk to you later." I answered before leaving the shower room. My fur had begun to dry as a result of the short chat with Zan, but I rubbed my spare towel vigorously through my fur to help the drying process. Remembering Jasper's words from earlier, I decided to humor him and knock.

“Come in!" He shouted. Pushing the door open I grinned seeing the gray wolf all dressed up. He was currently securing a dark purple tie around his neck that was the match to his purple suit vest and black undershirt which was tucked in to his fancy dress pants.

“Hey there handsome, lookin' good!" I teased him.

“Are you sure? I've got plenty more different things I could try on if you don't like this." He replied, a twinge of nervousness creeping into his tone.

“Relax, you look fine. You can model those some other day but for now..." I trailed off as I approached. I moved his paws away and finished pushing his tie up before leaning forward close to his face. “Me likey." I whispered, planting a kiss on his nose before pulling away. I could feel Jasper's gaze on me as I searched through my closet for one of the only fancy outfits I'd brought with me.

"Zan said hey by the way, ran into him in the showers." I remembered Zan's request from earlier while digging through the closet.

"Nothing crazy happened between you two right?" He asked jokingly.

"Nah, too many people around for me to make a move." I went along with it, finally finding what I was looking for in the closet. A blue and white sweater vest that my mom had gotten me for Christmas the year before, as well as the only pair of khaki pants that I'd brought with me.

I quickly pulled on a new pair of boxers, not without Jasper stealing a glance of course, before brushing all the knots out of my fur. Once I was satisfied with my work I equipped the other articles of clothing that I had set aside on the joined bed, making sure everything was tucked in and fastened properly.

“Think this'll be okay?" I asked him, gazing through the mirror for his reaction. He could only stare back dazedly before answering.

“I'm definitely the luckiest guy on the planet." He replied with a grin.

I blushed madly at his statement, “Oh come on, it's just a sweater vest thing. This is like the second time I've ever worn it." I tried to push his overwhelming comment aside.

“I think you should wear it more often, it looks great on you." He told me.

“Think so? My mom picked it out for me." I responded. “Well you're mom had a great eye for fashion that's for sure." He answered.

“Oh that reminds me, my mom told me to tell you she says hi and that she thinks you're very cute." I told him.

“Oh? When did she tell you this?" He asked, going along with what he thought was a joke.

“Monday after the shower while we were sleeping." I told him matter-of-factly.

“Good to know." He replied with a chuckle.

“Well, I'm ready when you are." I exclaimed as I finished brushing my fur one final time.

“Alright, let's go! I'm driving!" He said grabbing his keys and wallet.

“Not like I'd be able to drive anyways, I still don't even know where we're going!" I told him.

“And that's a good thing, even more of a surprise. Hope you're hungry!" He added before swinging the door open.

“I'm famished, let's get going!" I responded following him out the door.
