Prophecy
My submission for this weeks Challenge: tell a story out of context, starting at the climax/resolution.
I actually wrote this about a year ago as part of a Free Write. Let me know what you think. (I don't know what to put here, am new to posting stories xD)
As his hand entered the white light, his body tingled and started shaking. This was it, he was about to fulfill his Destiny. The Prophecy that was his entire Existence. His reason to live. His people will finally be free to live as they pleased. The Curse will finally be broken after six long and agonizing Centuries. A smile washed over his face as this thought overwhelmed him. But, slowly, another feeling started to grow: pain. They never said anything about this being painful. Confused, he tried to take his hand out of the light, but he couldn't budge. The pain was increasing at a slow rate and moving up his arm. He looked at his hand and black tendrils were snaking up his arm. He pulled harder, but it was no use; he was stuck. Something was wrong; none of this was in the Prophecy. The pain increased as the tendrils made their way to his shoulder. The white light pulsed, blinding him temporarily. When he regained his faculties, he saw that his hand was gone; turned to dust. He also discovered that he was able to move again. Screaming, he tried to escape the chamber, only remembering that he was locked in. The light pulsed again, causing him to scream again. He looked down and half his forearm was gone. This is wrong! This isn't supposed to happen! He wracked his mind, reciting the Prohecy to himself, trying to find something that could explain this.
"In a time of the Great Calamity, when the world was at it's lowest, a child would be born with Red eyes who had the power to stop the Curse. This child, upon reaching his 23rd Cycle, will take the Light into Himself and the Curse will be broken, ushering a new era of peace and prosperity for the World."
That was Him! It should be Him! He was born during the Sundering. He has Red eyes! He was on his 23rd Cycle! The Prophecy was about him! It had to be! He screamed in agony as his feet turned to ash and he dropped to the ground. The Light pulsed again, but this time, He heard screams from outside. He tried to call for help, but the pain was so agonizing that his vocal cords refused to work. His other arm was gone. More pulsing, more screams. He gathered the last of his strength and let out a scream of anguish, but not because of the pain. The scream was because he finally understood that they were wrong. The Prophecy was never about him being the Savior. Looking at the Light one last time, he finally understood. He was part of the Prophecy. He causes the Great Calamty. The Light Pulsed for one last time. His body and every body within Three Hundred miles disintigrated into ash.
The world was silent except for the wind, suddenly filled with ash. On the other side of the world, a baby was born. If he were to open his eyes, they would've been Red.
