Hello. My name is Emmanuel Welles I am a Xolo-Inu, finance major, and I am interning at
some accounting firm. Today, like any other day it started with me getting up, changing my sheets,
taking a shower, and brushing my teeth. Changing my sheets seem to be the recent thing in my life. My
mom thinks it's because I'm getting sick. Part of me wanted to argue with her but with the terrible data
plan my dorm was on at this moment (they swear they are gonna upgrade next month) it was half
heard. After I shower I grabbed my office uniform, my gold watch that my father gave me, and my
headphones. I realize I was out of boxer briefs so I made it a note to wash or be stuck with colorful
briefs from my High-school year that still fit me. Breakfast was routine, I ate toast with butter, orange
juice, and a poached egg. There was a box of cereal but I wanted to save it for a special occasion.
“A-choo”. That sneeze was the sneeze that broke my monotonous routine. I grabbed a tissue
blew my nose, and assumed nothing of the matter. Rather, I had a lot of energy, more than usual. After
all, this was my first day of my intern, the first day of my new major, something that'll make me some
money
Achoooo
Chapter 1: Bless you.
I never would've thought my ass would be late
“Fuck me,” I huffed, that extra energy was being well spent, the bus ran over a few nails ten
blocks from my job. Running was something I was good at. Being the youngest of 5 pups but having
your mothers temperament meant you barked louder than you bite. So, I ran ten blocks. I refused to be
late on my first day. Nothing was going to stop me, not a bus, not a sneeze, not a
“Oof-” his voice was soft but gruff.
“Just my fucking luck- watch where your goin-” My eyes widened at his frame. He was a bear,
yes I could see that. But he wore a baby blue short sleeve and button up, with cream slacks and dark
brown shoes. Very casual compared to my over dressed self, “Mierda...”
“I would say the same to you.” The bear chuckled a bit. Sticking his hand out, a fucking saint if
you ask me.
“M-my bad, the bus ran a flat, I'm about to be late to my first day at this internship.” I grabbed
his hand and effortlessly he pulled me up. I began to dust myself off.
“Oh that building right there?” The bear pointed towards the large and imposing tower.
“Y- yes.” I blushed a bit. Realizing I just barked at my senior.
“I know what you are thinking, oh darn I'm about to be fired from my first internship.” The
Bear chuckled a bit, dusting the remaining bit of dust off of my suit jacket.
I just sheepishly shook my head.
“Don't worry, I saw the accident on the way here to work. I'll let Arthur know.” The bear walked
ahead of me. I waited a few seconds to collect myself from this embarrassing situation.
AAAA-CHOOOOO
I grabbed another tissue, and prayed that it wasn't a cold.
Orientation went off without a hitch. I could tell some people where shocked at seeing a Xolo
Inu. A mostly hairless albeit fuzzy breed of dog but I somehow was able to get a very short amount of
fur and a nice tuft of hair, The hair-dye was fading and growing hair is a bitch so they where just gonna
have to put up with it.
“Emmanuel Welles, is it?” The bear from earlier came forward, kneel down to look me in the
eyes.
“Yes, but you can call me Manny.” I deepened my voice a bit. Gotta act the part in this world.
“I'm Theodore Grizz.” He stuck his large paw out for a hand shake, “ And it seems like you are
assigned to me, and you can call me Teddy.”
I touched his large paw, they where soft and warm. For some reason my heart began to flutter a
bit.
“Now shake.” Teddy playfully replied, and my tail began to wag as I complied.
Teddy just laughed a hearty laugh as I realize my brain just short circuited. Once again, I
gathered my senses as I followed Teddy around. He showed me everything the day to day stuff, where
the bathroom was located and such. My day to day duties where basically run copies, take notes on
business transactions, stuff I learned in accounting class
ACHOO
That last sneeze had more bite than normal.
“Are you okay, Manny?” Teddy asked. His brown beady eyes stared at me intently.
“Me, I'm aight.” I sniffed weakly but shook it off. I wasn't gonna
AchOOOO!
“Yeah, that's what I thought.” Teddy looks me with this disapproving look a Dad gives to their
kid.
“Don't give me that look-”
AChoO -ACHOOO
That last one sounded like a puppy bark. I covered my mouth each time, I'm not gonna be that
one accountant that gets every one sick. However I did feel warm. A slight spritz between my legs and
between my ears, both aren't a good sign.
“I'm taking you home Manny, you look for a lack of a better word sick as a dog.”
“No mames,” I chuckled, my body feeling worse by the minute.
“I'm guessing that's casual language where you are from perrito but here we don't use that.”
Teddy gave me this stern look.
“Oh, what are you gonna do about -” before I could finish this sentence, I felt my self lifted in
the air by the collar of my suit. I often forget how imposing bears can be.
“This.” Teddy grabbed the back of my pants and with one swift motion pulled them to my
ankles.
“Wait- You can't be serious.” I felt myself getting hot and red in the face.
I heard a tsk, I'm assuming that he saw my little accident from the last sneeze... This couldn't be
real, where was the HR, Lawyer, Mommy?
“Manny, wake up! Manny.” Teddy's voice echoed in the air. A cold chill was on my forehead as
my vision blurred.
“Sup,” I replied. I was in his office with a cold towel, and a damp pair of pants...
“You fainted, are you okay? ?” Teddy ask.
“I think I need to go home.” I replied. Pulling myself up, I felt the damage on my suit, “Pues.”
Chapter 2: Sniffles
So a sneeze, a fever dream, and a fainting spell was in the cards for today. For some reason
Teddy was adamant on carrying me to his car, when I could walk on my own.
“Look, so clearly we are past the professional stage are we.” I asked.
“Yep,” Teddy chuckled.
“Pues,” was all I could muttered as I buried my head into his soft chest.
“Look, Manny I'm gonna drive you home, but do understand that my car is big.” Teddy
chuckled nervously.
“What do you mean, compañero?” I was confused.
“You'll see.” he replied.
Honestly being carried like a sick whelp through the office because you decided to faint like a
fucking telenovella was the least of my worries. What could be more embarrassing than that?
“No mames-que pues?” my brain was rattled at the car. For context, I am on the tall side for
small breeds but small enough to be classified as a medium breed. It's a weird makeup especially when
it comes to clothes. Snot began to leak from my nose in disbelief.
“Yeah, I have a college student about your age, a dog like you, he uses that car-seat.” Teddy
opened the door, and gently set me down.
“This is why I take the bus.” That's a lie, my bike got stolen.
“Well, the bus is broken down.” Teddy buckled me up snug in the car-seat. If I didn't feel like a
perrito now, well now I do.
“I'm gonna crack the window down a bit to keep the smell down.” Teddy, turned on his car.
“The-what?” I placed my hand on the damp spot, “Tedd-”
“Don't worry I took your suit jacket and covered you up, no one saw.” Teddy smiled, placing his
phone on the charging dock I heard some key tones and in a few seconds I heard a ladies voice.
“Getting that behind ready for me Teddy Bear?” she asked.
I couldn't help but laugh at this interaction.
“N-No sweetie, I have a co-worker in the car.” Teddy stammered.
“ Hi Sweetie.” I said with a feverish grin.
“Oh,” she paused her tone shifted, “who's in the back”
“Manny, he's sitting in the carseat.” Teddy glanced at the mirror I saw his ass grinning.
“Oh, he's Corey sized?” she asked.
“No, a bit taller but he has a nasty fever,” Teddy turned on his blinker, “among other things.”
“You know, you don't have to tell all my biz Mr. Grizz.” I couldn't tell if the fever or the
embarrassment is making my face heat up.
“Ohhhh, so I'm guessing you're dropping him off.” Mrs. Grizz asked.
“Yeah, HR gave me his address and you're not gonna believe it, he goes to the same school that
Corey goes to.” Teddy chuckled a bit.
“He must be a lucky tenant.” I thought to myself.
Somewhere deep in a library, a small corgi is studying for a test sneezes.
“They say if you sneeze, someone is talking about you.” Russ handed the corgi a tissue from his
hoodie pocket.
“I wonder who?” he sniffles a bit.
“It's not much too look at.” I grabbed my key, “but it's home.” I sniffled. The chills where
setting in as I pushed through the door.
“You were right.” Teddy walked into my humble domicile. A clash of post modern college
décor and half opened boxes. Yes it's a mess. But it's my mess.
“So, I would say make yourself at home but uh I'm working on that part.” I smiled weakly.
Hiding the soaked bed sheet, not that it matters there was a faint odor in the air. I went into one of the
boxes and found my first aid kit and with it, some fever reducing medicine.
“Good, you took some med', are you going to be okay by yourself Manny?” Teddy asked me,
placing his hand on my shoulder.
“Sure, I'll go lay down.” I replied.
“Not without a bath, hold on I'll be back.” Teddy moved gingerly through my cluttered dorm.
I'll have to clean it when I feel better. It seems like an eternity waiting for Teddy to come back. When
he did my tail wagged but for only for a second.
“Que esos?” I saw a cute bag with clear nursery prints.
“Oh, it's an emergency diaper bag-”
“Uh....?” my head tilted.
“Don't worry no one saw the bag I can assure you.” Teddy smiled softly.
“Look, I appreciate the gestures and clearly I must be having a fever dream or something but-”
“Oh, no I wouldn't do that for you.” Teddy pulled out some disposable garments with tear-able
sides.
“Look,” I took a deep breath, “ I can do it myself.” I smiled.
“I'm sure you can pup.” The way Teddy was talking to me at this moment was that of a father. I
clearly needed a bath, and honestly me being sick is hitting the vulnerable daddy issues that a young
college age pup must have.
“But first-”
“But first I need a bath.” If I'm going to dive into something Imma do it myself. That's the
Welles way.
“Yes, a bath.” Teddy looked towards my bathroom and walked in.
“At least that's clean.” I smiled toothily as I toddled behind him.
“I'm ordering soup for you.” Teddy put the drain in the tub, and turned on the water. Digging
through the diaper bag, he pulled out some smelling salts to add to the tub. “This should help you feel
better, my wife packs for most situations.”
“The way she's about to pack you.” I asked “innocently.”
“Yes, but don't think you can get it too.” Teddy's took off his glasses and set them on the tray.
“Ja, I know.” The air smelled like mint and lavender as steam rose from the water. I began to
take off my clothes when Teddy began to help.
“Teddy, I can do it myself.” I whined.
“Hey, even tough guys need help some time.” He could see right through the macho act I was
failing to pull. Teddy helped me out of my clothes, my dress shoes, socks and saved the underwear for
last.
“Can you turn away for this one.” I asked.
Teddy folded his arms with dismay.
“I've been around for a long time and seen em all before,” Teddy turned his back, “ But, I'll give
the pup some space.”
I thanked him, quickly shimmying off my boxer briefs, they where dried but smelled faintly of
pee. My back was turned I felt his hands lift me in the air, and gently into the water.
“There you go pup.” said Teddy.
The water felt soothing to my achy body, like every ache in my body seem to relax. It reminded
me of the baths I would get at home during these cold months. Teddy scrubbed my hair, he kept his
claws very manicured but they felt good on my scalp. I tried to fake it but my curly tail gave it away.
“Baths do work I guess.” Teddy drained the water in the tub before grabbing a fluffy towel to
dry me off.
“I can do the rest myself.” I squeaked.
“Yes I know Manny, but lemme get behind your ears.” he replied.
Teddy actually gave me some privacy to dry off the rest of my bits. There's a certain level of
autonomy I would like to have, I'm not that helpless. Wrapping the towel around me I walked into the
living quarters sectioned off by a curtain. On the floor was the diaper-I mean pullup, and a two piece
pajama set clearly designed for pups.
“Teddy do I have to?” I asked.
“I'm not the one with little to no fur and a broken fever but you can just wear the pullup,” he
picked it up, closed his eyes to give me privacy and opened it for me to step in it, “That's not
negotiable.”
Rolling my eyes, I steadied my hands onto his shoulders and stepped into a snug fit. The
pajamas came next, as I noticed some fresh linen on my bed.
“Oh sweet I knew I had some stuff.” I walked, noticing the subtle crinkles with every step
mixed emotions filled my brain.
“Get some rest, I'll wake you up when soup and stuff is here.” Teddy asked.
“What do you mean by stuff?” I groggily asked.
“Some pup appropriate stuff.” Teddy smiled, the bath really wore me out.
It wasn't the bus, the sneeze, or fainting on the first day of work that stopped me. It was this
damn bear.
Achoo.
Chapter 3: Tissue please
The best kind of sleep is usually the kind that comes from a long hard day of work. The second,
from a broken fever.
“Hey, pup how are you feeling?” Teddy asked.
Dreams are often the subconscious way of telling us about ourselves. It's a dialogue between
our subconscious and conscious reasoning, or dreams are just the way the brain replay the day.
“Tired.” I replied, snuggling something soft and fluffy.
Most people aren't aware of a dream. Yet some, like myself, have become hyper-aware of
things. Our rational brains piloting and overriding the basic emotional needs.
“Shhhhh, then rest, but I gotta check on your pull-up pup.” Teddy gingerly lowered my
pajamas. I was very much soaked.
“I'm sorry,” I was too tired to blush but it felt like a whine. This is a dream I am sure of it.
“It's okay, mijo.” Teddy pulled my pant's back up and put the blanket back on me.
“Where are you going ?” I asked.
“To get you a change pup, you may need something thicker.” He replied.
“Like?”
“Well, I got some diapers for you.” Teddy in his older papa bear ways pulled out some cute
teddy bear prints.
“Pues...” groaning. This has to be a dream.
“Don't give me that pues, you're down to your last sheets, if you want I can take them to my
place and wash them after I get you changed and fed.” Teddy pulled the sheets, revealing my sleepy
puppy body.
“J..just make it quick.” I said covering my face.
First came the sensation of my pajama bottoms being tugged away, next came the sounds of my
pull-up tearing. Lastly the cold air hit my skin, I was very wet.
“Any longer and you would be out of luck.” The cold sensation of wipes shiver up my spine.
Maybe I am not dreaming after all, it feels too real. “I'm almost done Manny.”
“H-hurry up.” I let out a small puppy bark.
“Geez, someone's a fussy puppy.” Powder was dusted on my bits, as a diaper was snugly tapped
on me.
“See, all done.” Teddy took my hands away from my face. He had this shit eating grin, or well I
think it's a shit eating grin but I'm also embarrassed.
“Shit, I'm not dreaming.” I shifted my legs a bit, crinkling filled me with every step.
“No,” Teddy stood up, walking across the boxes and random junk that splayed around my room.
I saw him head towards the kitchen, my sense of smell must be shot. A few minutes later, teddy came
back with some soup and a spoon.
“You shouldn't have done this.” yet, as teddy grew closer the smell of the soup finally hit my
nose. It smelled like home and love.
“No, you are a grown dog,” Teddy sat on the bed, placing the tray on my lap,”but judging from
what I saw and heard, you really needed someone to look after you for a few hours.”
“Fine, you got me there.” I grabbed the soup, blowing on it a few times, and took a sip. I could
tell this wasn't some store bought stuff.
“It's my wife's recipe,” Teddy reached close to me and pulled a stuffed animal away from my
tray. “I also found this under all those boxes.”
“So that what I was hugging.” I paused between slurps to contemplate my day. It started out
with me on top of my game and somehow I ended up here.
“What's on your mind Manny?” Teddy asked.
“Nothing, really just -wait what do you mean by heard?” I asked.
“Oh, you where doing that thing dogs do in their sleep. Apparently you are a bit of a sleep
talker.” He winked.
The soup was doing it's work, I felt the heat rise from my face again.
“What did you mean by that?” I asked nervously.
“Nothing you should worry about kiddo.” Teddy stood up and smirked at me. Walking across
the closed off area that is my bed, he grabbed a black trash-bag and my basket.
What did dream me say to warrant such a look? I took a bite from some chunks of protein in my
soup. This day felt weird.
“I'm going to put these in my car, and check in on you in a few.” Teddy with a grunt picked up
my clothes and walked off. Apparently he made a pathway through the boxes. What ever dream me
said, I'm sure it will be brought up shortly. The soup really did hit the spot. I was allerted by a phone
notification next to my bedstand. It was a message from my mom:
Your job called, they said you got sick mijo. I'm sending you some money to get medicine and
some food, no arguing with me on this, we will be fine.
Mom
“Fuck she didn't have to.” She already had enough on her plato to worry about. I changed my
major from art to this for the family, even though she would be against it. Someone's got to look out for
them, dad's not around. It gotta be me.
“Pup, I'm back,” Teddy walked back in. I felt tears streaming from my face.
“H-hey ted! Um thank you for everything.” I tried to wipe away the snot from my nose and
face.
“What's wrong, was it something I said?” Teddy asked.
“Nada- it's not you. “ I took a deep breath, “My mom found out I was sick and sent me some
money.”
“Normally pup's like you would love pocket change, why are u so upset about it?” Tedy asked.
“See, I didn't want my mom to take care of me, I could take care of me, I wanted her to worry
about my brothers.” I huffed. Yes it was silly, but I was the one who made it this far in college. I wanted
to stand on my own merit.
“Ok, so while I understand, but as a parent I think you're being a bit too prideful.” Teddy
grabbed my tray and walked back to the kitchen. I rolled on my tummy adjusting to the new thickness
of my current attire before shimmying off of my bed and followed him to the kitchen
“R-really,” I asked, toddling behind him.
“Yes, parent's want to love and support you no matter what.” He placed my bowl in the dishes,
walked to the fridge and grabbed some orange juice. Then across the fridge was my cupboard and a
step ladder. From there he pulled a cup with a thick straw at the end. It was an insulated cup used for
smaller cubs but it was the perfect size for me and my workouts. Lastly he took some liquid fever
reducer and handed it to me to drink.
“It's not fair.” I interjected.
“Maybe,” he poured some juice in my cup, “but it's not your say when people choose to help
you.” He twists the cap tightly.
“I don't want to worry her.” I blushed. I sounded like a brat at this point.
“She's always gonna worry.” Teddy placed the cup down, picked me up with one hand and
grabbed my cup with the other, “it's what parents do.”
I stood there dumbfounded, at the situation, the kindness, and well being in the arms of a man I
barely just met but has made me feel like one of his cubs. All I can do was bury my head in his
shoulder.
“If you want to thank her, drink this, get back in bed get some rest.” Teddy carried me back into
bed like the sick puppy that I was at this moment. Tucking me into bed I gingerly drank some juice.
Teddy went into the diaper bag and pulled up a story book.
“What's this, a story before bedtime.” I tried to play it off if I wasn't sitting on my tail I
would've started wagging.
“Sure, gotta commit to the bit.” Teddy adjusted his glasses and began to read to me. Today was
tiring, and I made a mental note to thank my mom. The medicine took it's effect, as his low warm voice
lulled me to sleep. I did have a lot to think about. Hell, I don't think I actually like accounting enough
to make it a study. These questions would be answered in due time. Right now, I needed to get better.
End.
