A Change In Christmas Spirit (Story 2)

David loves himself some Christmas spirit but his wife doesn't share the same feelings and that might just be enough to warrant a little surprise to convince her otherwise.

The metal of the ladder creaked as David climbed up to the top, stopping just before he reached the top. With a heavy sigh he took in the smells not just the good but the bad, unnatural smells created by a holiday candle put him in the holiday mood, while the musty smell of garland and old boxes made him wish he simply bought whole new decorations instead of using the old classics from his grandparents basement. It was already going on four o'clock as he had spent the last two hours untangling and checking the lights as he didn't want to string them up outside in the bitter cold only to find out it didn't work.

Using the adhesive hooks he had found at the store made putting up garland so much easier and faster too, though midway through he got tangled in the lamp and almost sent it crashing into the coffee table. While he stood in the doorway to the living room he couldn't help but feel accomplished, he only wished Morgan felt the same way. She had never really been a fan of the holidays, she was a bit of a scrooge, she didn't believe in the cheesy decorations, the lights, the colors or even the gifts, she felt it was all just a waste of money and energy. He wished she appreciated it just enough to be willing to help him decorate the gingerbread man, his family and the house when they come fresh out of the oven, oh the smell of fresh gingerbread made his toes curl with joy.

David was in the middle of cleaning up the boxes when he found an old collar inside one of the boxes, it resembled a reindeer's collar with red fabric that was stained and somewhat muddy as well as the brass colored bells that were somewhat rusted with it somehow even smelling like animal but David just chocked that up to the strange odor that emanated from old boxes. Without any real idea on what to do with it he set it on the coffee table and left to go prep the gingerbread.

The house was warm and the smell of baked goods filled every corner and eliminated the last of that old box smell, Morgan had just gotten back from work and she felt drained. Granted she liked the smell of David's baking but everything else gave her sore eyes, the overbearing colors, the unnecessary joy on spending money, she didn't understand David's or anyone else's obsession with the holiday, it was just a corporate cash grab of a holiday. But as she entered the living room she noticed the collar that sat on the coffee table, up until this point she didn't really give David a chance when it came to the holidays but after seeing the amount of work he put into it, she decided why not humor him a bit and play along for the evening. Grabbing the collar off the table and replacing it with her bag she brought it closer to her face, it was made of a bright red fabric without any spots or stray dirt, and bells that lined it with which shimmered a glossy gold color and jingled with each movement, it even smelled wonderful, it was a bit odd a collar smelt so good but that must have been David's doing so she unbuckled it and wrapped it around her neck before clipping it closed. Something about it made her feel all jittery inside, her heart pumped as her body trembled a bit, something about the collar made her feel... odd yet cheerful.

Morgan found herself itchy, she scratched her back, her legs, her chest, her ears, her thighs, and her neck, when she scratched her neck she stuck her fingers under the collar but felt something soft and fuzzy, she didn't notice it at the time as she was too focused on the sudden growth in heat as she quickly threw off her suit jacket, and then her shirt but as she stood in a simple tank top she began to realize something off. Her arms had slowly begun to get hairier or well hair had quickly become fur, that's when it hit her, the collar. In a panic she reached back and attempted to take off the collar but couldn't find the buckle, she fought with it and struggled but she found it harder and harder to grasp at it. So pulling her hands back she freaked out as her fingers began to fuse forming large splayed deer-like hooves. Then the pain set in, it started slow from the base of her spine but spread to her upper thighs and then lower legs, the sound of light cracking followed by a wave of pain then more cracking, she dropped to the ground as caught herself on her hoof hands. The cracking bubbled from deep within her legs as they twisted backwards, but more cracking followed as they bent forward again, she found it hard to stand her legs were more like that of an animals then her own human legs, but the itching came back this time in a heavy torrent as she began to fill out. Her pants began to stretch the fabric popping and tearing out, her legs now plump and coated in a thick layer of white and brown fur. Her feet had fused into hooves similar to her hands, her spine began to stretch and bend as a series of deep pops caused something to push out at the back of her pants, or what remained of them. That's when they finally sheared, her underwear when with them as a small flap of fur grew out of her spine.

Her face ached as her nose began to stretch her mouth following it, while her arms filled with pain as they became legs. Her chest and stomach filled out as her shirt and bra popped and sheared into tatters. She wanted to cry the pain, the itching was so bad but she couldn't reach her face with these hooves. She tried to scream, cry, call for help, but a simple deer-like grunt escaped. No more speaking for her, as her once long hair began to recede into a scalp that was replaced by a thick winter coat. Her mind went fuzzy them came back, for a moment she forgot why she was panicking but then had to remind herself that she was becoming a monster. Two horns poked out from her head, with a layer of soft velvet on the surface as they reached high like a tree and branched out, her ears tingled as they stretched upwards and itched as fur grew upon them. When it all stopped, Morgan forgot why she was panicking, she didn't just feel good she felt great, something about this holiday felt amazing to her.

David walked into the living room to check on Morgan as she had been awfully quiet since she got home but he gasped when he saw a reindeer standing before him, a deep horrible truth bubbled in his gut as he saw Morgan's ripped clothes and the reindeer wearing the collar that was suddenly so clean but he couldn't help but feel... cheerful, like he was in the presence of Christmas spirit made flesh.
