"Most people don't understand Mawiles. Fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately, depending on your point of view, I have become a bit of an expert on the subject. They have oddly shaped, almost hoof-like feet at the bottom of their legs. Much like their massive jaws these 'shoes' are made of steel and can be quite deadly. Back to the massive jaws on the back of their head... those things do not have anything soft, warm, or wet inside. The black velvet like material on the outside coats a steel jaw that is capable of chomping through titanium carbide metal support struts like candy.

A Mawile has a surprisingly dexterous control over the jaw appendage and that is in part due to the patch of yellow fur on the thing. The fur covers a very sensitive portion of the jaw that is used to allow the Mawile to better detect the jaw's relative position to their body and they can detect very slight changes in pressure and air currents with the strange patch. Now I am sure why you are wondering "Well, if it isn't a mouth, then why does it have teeth and why is it pink inside?"

I am sure that if you are familiar with Mawile you are familiar with a Mega Mawile as well. As it turns out that pink substance is used for hardening the yellow fur of a Mawile. As far as I am concerned it is a Pok辿mon body magic substance. Basically, what happens is the Mawile's fur has micro tubes inside of it that fill with this strange pinkish magenta substance that on average, hardens the fur for a little over 47% yield to defensive properties, and nearly 73% more resistance to special Pok辿mon attacks. The fur on the inside of their massive head jaws have that special pinkish substance flooding the micro tubes at all times, and it drains out upon a Mawile's death. The little tooth-like appendages are a very hard metal bone mix that has about half of the harness of diamond on the Knoop Hardness Scale.

A Mawile has very, very precise control on the chomping power of their head appendage and while they can use it to chomp through steel beams, and even rocks... they are also quite capable of reducing the force so that it is just enough to subdue an opponent. This is more commonly done with a Mega Mawile since they have two jaw appendages and it makes it easy to hold down one's arms, legs or whatever they have latched on to. More often than not, a wild Mawile will just chomp down on an opponent. It horrifies me to think of the sheer force that they are capable of since they can chomp though steel beams. I do not specialize in engineering but in order to bring some metal to its yield stress you'd need to apply pressure in excess of 120,000 pounds per square inch of force. That kind of force would turn a human into mush immediately.

A Mawile may be known as the Deceiver Pok辿mon, but I feel like that is very pointed and targeted due to its hunting mechanism. They do not naturally attack humans and in fact are more often than not interested in helping humans out. The Police force has put a new image to the Jaws of Life. A Mawile can chomp a car door in a much shorter time and easily crunch the metal away from the victims. While war may not be a thing, organized crime is, and Mawiles make great lock breakers, too," a young researcher explained as he paced around the panel stage at the annual Pok辿WellCon.

The Pok辿mon Wellness Conference was targeted at professors, nurses, and certain pharmaceutical companies that developed Pok辿mon potions and health snacks. The purpose of the conference was to bring together the research from all over the world to the Alola Convention Center. Most professors, researchers, and even CEOs of companies liked to vacation in Alola, and Todd was on there for a temporary stay before heading back to my home in the Hoenn Region. Todd was a post graduate student in the field of Applied Pok辿mon Medicine in his final stretch for his PhD in Pok辿 Medicine.

"I have spent the last five and a half years doing research in medicine, chemistry and Pok辿mon-human relationships to get this far, and if you read my dissertation on the magenta compound found in the Mawile's fur, it will show what positive effects it could have for both humans and Pok辿mon alike. To summarize my work in a simple few words it can enhance the current hyper potion spray by fifty percent and provide a cellular level resistance to poison, disease, as well as a boost to regenerative properties for several hours varying by Pok辿mon types. It is far more effective for Fairy types than any other type, and far less effective for bug types, dark types, and dragon types. It provides no noticeable effect to poison types. In Max Potions there are no notable healing effects, but the regeneration property is nearly tripled. It would be a little better than spraying a potion on your Pok辿mon after every attack in combat. Additionally, it provides a 100% resistance to poison, and deals irreparable damage to pure poison typed Pok辿mon. This compound could be added to cheaper potions, but I feel it would be effort wasted since it is extremely expensive to create the substance in a lab setting without a Mawile and the effects are significantly boosted by the higher quality components in the stronger potions. I have experimented with max revives as well, but the effects do not seem to affect knocked out Pok辿mon, and when added to a full heal it provides a minimal healing effect with a significantly reduced boost to resistance," Todd continued on, "As for the cost, it would raise the price of a potion, at cost, by 600 Pok辿 Dollars. All of the information except for the method of synthesis is detailed in there, and in my book. Please do not think I am trying to sell you anything, as I have made my research and my book detailing everything publicly available for the extremely low price of free. Todd was a wealthy man in his late twenties, with a scar under his left eye. As he paced around in his sandals, his lab coat would flutter a little in the fans and revealed he was in very good physical shape since he was wearing khaki shorts and a sleeveless blue shirt. His height was very average for a human adult male and his skin was very pale. The people sitting closest to the panel stage could probably smell the sunscreen on him, as the Alola region had a very brutal sun. He had fairly short, reddish brown hair and a goatee to match, though it appeared the rest of his face had trouble growing facial hair anyway. His bright blue eyes were full of life and sparkled with glee as he talked passionately about his research and continued on into a slide show to try and impress the panel at the conference in search of points of contact or recommendation letters.

"Sorry, I am about to run over time according to the slide operator so I don't have any time for questions. If you have any questions, or want any of my research you can contact me at my email address listed on the last slide. My slide show is also available on my website. Thank you for your patience and support!" Todd said bowing before hurrying off stage to allow the next person to present. The room filled with thunderous clapping and Todd felt relieved as it was the first time he had to present in front of such a large crowd. There had to be at least 1000 people out there! He was glad that he didn't get asked any questions on the spot, and he could tell that there were a large number of people taking notes.

Todd's conference call was the second to last one and he had to get back to the hotel to prepare for departure back to his home in Hoenn. Luckily, his hotel was only a short difference from the conference center and he had no trouble walking back to the hotel. The city was a very busy place and there were tourists everywhere. Not only that, there were shady massage parlors, smoke shops, bars, and hole in the wall food service establishments scattered around the downtown area. It wasn't all bad though. There were a lot of restaurants, clothing shops, and a huge mall that was five stories high a short distance from the hotel. Todd had actually planned a vacation package that included snorkeling, deep sea fishing, spa treatments, a food tour that changed breakfast, lunch and dinner locations each day, as well as a guided tour. He had only strayed from the guided tour for two days and found some rare cards for a game that he had picked up in his early years of college. Not only that, but Chloe was probably having the time of her life while she was there. At least, she said she had fun on all of the trips except for the deep sea fishing trip since she was scared of the ocean.

Chloe was Todd's Mawile, or maybe Todd was Chloe's human? It didn't really matter since they had been legally married in the highly progressive Hoenn region. Chloe had known Todd since he was fifteen years old. Their meeting was certainly rocky at best and at the time Todd had no interest in being a Pok辿mon trainer, let alone a professor. After their first meeting, in a cave, Todd ended up meeting Chloe again engaged in combat with a wild Camerupt and saved her from the brutal lashing she received from a lava plume attack. It was a miracle she survived, and would have likely died if Todd hadn't been there.

After Todd saved Chloe she started to follow him around in the shadows, watching him from afar. He had frustrated her by trampling into her den with a seeming complete disregard for her privacy and space. However, she felt indebted to him and became his body guard. She was an ever vigilant guardian, and it seemed like he didn't notice her for the longest time, though everyone else could tell that she was following him if not only because she was constantly tailing him and watching him. After three or so months of the strange behavior, Todd got into a fight with some bullies at school who were picking on a nerdy girl in his class.

Unfortunately for those bullies, the moment they turned on Todd they picked a fight with a Mawile. Todd had been socked in the face and knocked to the ground, but he had barely wiped the saliva from his mouth before he heard the crunch of the bully's bones as Chloe slammed her head into his side. Todd purchased a luxury ball for her, though he rarely put her inside, preferring to have her out and about with him. He trained with her and performed a Super Training regimen every summer until he was in college, balancing her speed, attack, defense, special defense, and endurance though she naturally decided to train just a bit harder in endurance for some reason. During his second year of college Todd purchased a Mawilite stone and had it set in a gold clasp so it could be worn with a ribbon that he gave to Chloe. Between his second and third year of college he decided to try out his luck and challenged all of the gym trainers in the Hoenn region, earning their badges and the right to fight the elite four to become a Pok辿mon League Master. Unlike other trainers, the only Pok辿mon he had was his Mawile and he couldn't defeat the elite four, but it did solidify his desire to learn about Pok辿mon medicine.

Todd had dated a few girls since his start in college, having avoided it completely in high school. He found the first girl was only in it for his money, the second girl he dated liked to party all the time and he wasn't down for that sort of destructive lifestyle. The last girl he dated had cheated on him, though that was the longest relationship he'd had at six months, finding that he was always paranoid of her and let her go about a month after finding out she cheated on him. Chloe was always there to comfort him, and after watching him go through the relationships she started to realize that she had feelings for him, getting more and more jealous of the girls.

At the time, intimate Pok辿mon-human relationships were illegal, and while Todd was studying at college for Pok辿mon medicine, Chloe decided to learn how to speak his human language so she could easily prove she was a sentient being, competent and consenting. He agreed to marry her after he completed his Master's Degree in Applied Pok辿mon Medicine. Being engaged for three and a half years didn't really change anything between Chloe and Todd. They had already gotten so close when it was forbidden that they wouldn't have cared about the repercussions.

Chloe and Todd had already been a well-known couple in their neighborhood, and it was no secret that he was doing research for her benefit. It was an indisputable fact that Pok辿mon who had extremely close relationships with their trainers performed better in combat. It was to no surprise that he made it through the tournament and seemed to obliterate the competition. Not only that Chloe had agreed to let him use one of the potions and he explained what he had done after the competition and made the potions available to anyone who gained the title of Hoenn Pok辿mon Master, bringing in a fairly steady stream of money for research.

After that he continued to perfect the potions, focusing on Hyper Potion sprays to maximize the effects while minimizing the costs. He wrote two books, one on nearly everything to know about Mawiles from their physical anatomy and attributes, to their behavior and natural habitats. He went in depth enough to explain how their jaw appendages worked, and studied them with Chloe since she had no trouble finding other ones. His second book was all about the pharmaceutical benefits of alpha-T Magentile, and where it could be applied.

Todd slid his keycard into the slot of his room and listened to the door make a mechanical whiring and unlatch noise.
