If there is a longing deep within every heart, it is to connect with that which is unknown, to shine a light on that which is hidden, and to be seen as who we truly are. But loneliness is like a wall around us. Fearing that others might see us as we see our selves, we build it ever higher, all the while wanting to let others come inside. But when we allow fears such as this to drive us, to separate us, however unknowingly it may be, we then begin pushing others away from us. Truly, it is a terrible thing to be so alone. Chapter Ten : Descending into everlasting night. Sliding his hands along the inside of her legs while he admired his prize, Johnathan felt his desire to possess her growing with each passing second. To say that she was beautiful was hard to deny. Not quite human, not quite animal, she existed in the borders between the two worlds, in a place where the two crossed but could never quite meet. It was something he had found existed within all chimeras to some degree or another. That they possessed an almost uncanny resemblance to humanity, and that the closer you looked, the more human they inevitably became. But it was always there, on the surface for all to see, that glaring inconsistency. It was a truth that Exotica Geno-Works had tried to hide behind a mask of propaganda and lies. Forget the fur, the feathers and the scales. Through science, mankind had sought a way to make chimeras more then humanity could ever be. Perhaps they had done it to ensure their continued survival as a species, or to secure a place for themselves in the annals of history, or maybe, they had done it just to satisfy their own twisted egos. But whatever the reason may be, the fact still remained, Exotica Geno-Works had succeeded all too well. Chimeras were more then just the end result of decades of planned genetic engineering, they were the culmination of everything that science had ever hoped to achieve. Made in man's own image, they alone stood at the pinnacle of perfection, the children of carefully controlled evolution. Forget about humanity, Homo Sapiens time as the dominant species on Earth was already drawing to a close, and chimeras, chimeras had been created to take mankind's place, as Homo Superior. Looking down upon Lady as he raped her, Johnathan couldn't help but laugh. Was it any wonder that so many people hated them, when they were everything that humans desired, but knew they could never be? It was irrational, it was calculated, and it was all about control. With the way that things stood today, with everyone wrapped up in their own little worlds, they were kept too busy to realize that they were being used. That their hatred, their anger and their fear was being manipulated in infinitely subtle ways. And all so that the elite few could gain even greater control. Let the ignorant masses have their way, He thought to himself. And maybe one day, they will realize that chimeras themselves are blameless, that they are nothing more then what we have made of them, and they will find reasons to despise them even more. As for me, I will continue to conquer them in my own way. After all, she was such a wonderfully exotic thing that man had created for himself, with a mound of fur that was as white as newly fallen snow, and such perfectly formed breasts, it almost seemed a shame not to enjoy her. Since even among her own kind, Lady would have been considered a rare and exquisite beauty. That she had somehow been reduced to the level of a mere streetwalker was an irony he couldn't help but enjoy. And maybe someday he would ask her how she had fallen so low. Maybe someday, he would even remember that he had wanted to ask. It all depended on whether or not she survived that long. Many of them didn't. Many of them couldn't last longer then a few rounds. It seemed to him that, being raped broke something in them. That once they had lost whatever vestiges of humanity science had managed to give them, and began relying on their more primal, basic instincts, they became nothing more then wild feral creatures, incapable of anything save seeking out ways to satisfy their own baser desires. And once they had been reduced to that level, well, they were useless to him. Mere trash to be discarded and nothing more. "But you're better then that aren't you?" He said as he took a moment to catch his breath. She had such a sweet smelling scent. So like the fragrance found at the heart of a rose, it was an aroma that had been engineered to attract a mate, to tell anyone and everyone who could detect it that she was available and in heat, and yet, the only male chimera for some miles was Kato. Would it torment him? He wondered. To see but not touch, to smell but not taste? Even now, were his attempts to reach out to her nothing more then the result of his unrequited longing? Johnathan hoped so. Lady's struggles had finally started to weaken. Oh, she had tried to stop him from taking what he wanted from her, even going so far as to beat her fists against his chest while he invaded her pleasant depths. Taking her slowly, he had let her fight against him, to let her think that she had some chance of resisting as he forced more and more of himself inside her unwilling body. But unfortunately for her, Johnathan had been in no real hurry, after all anticipation had always added spice, and he was loathe to finish early. But even now she was reaching out to Kato, all the while mouthing some inane nonsense about how she wanted him to save her, and to keep fighting the collar's control. They were idiots, both of them. Idealistic fools who refused to accept their true place in the world. Grabbing hold of her hand, he slowly began to force it back, he wanted nothing to spoil the moment, nothing to come between him and his triumph. Thrusting into her with lustful abandon, Johnathan knew he was hurting her, damaging her, but he didn't care. She was even better than the all the others combined. A true prize. Granted, He had enjoyed her more when she had fought against him, her struggles had made taking her all the sweeter, but now that she was just lying there, her eyes staring up at nothing . . . her body pliant and unresisting. A sense of disgust welling up inside him, Johnathan tried to ignore the look on her face. He had seen it before, and all it ever did was remind him of the truth that he could never hide from, the truth that he had often tried to deny. That he could only take through force, what others found through love. Not that it mattered to him. In the end, love was just one more thing he had given up on finding long ago. True he had conquered her, but to what end? The spark, the spirit was gone. And he was still no closer to finding that which he lacked. Fearing the malaise that always seemed to follow in the wake of such hollow victories, Johnathan picked up the empty bag of Dust that had fallen to the floor, and proceeded to lick it clean. For far too long, the Companies have taken everything from us, our lives, our families, and even our memories. In him, we have been granted an unparalleled opportunity to set right that which has gone so terribly wrong. So I say this. Let us forge a sword of blood, and sorrow, and tragedy. A blade to strike at heaven with all of evils might. If ever such a weapon was given unto the hands of man then even gods themselves would have reason to tremble in the night. Fighting to keep himself from descending into everlasting darkness, Kato raged against the silence that held him captive. Forced to bear witness to an abominable act, such was the hatred that he felt, that engraving itself forever within his memory, that doorway had become a window into a nightmare that would haunt him until the end of his days. Gone was the thin veneer of civilization; stripped away by the senselessness of it all. Johnathan had reduced himself to the level of a mere beast, and not by design, but by choice. With his body immobilized by the collar, unable to close his eyes or even turn away, He had tried to pray. Please. Someone. Anyone. Save her! Instead, staring blindly ahead, his fear turning to despair as he strained his senses to the utmost, Kato sought out something, anything, if only to chance crying out in the hopes that it would somehow draw attention to her plight. But it was of no use, the garden surrounding the manor was an island unto itself. Isolated from the rest of the city by privacy shields and accessible only by a select few, it was a place where sound could come in, but it couldn't get out. Watching as the shadows grew in number around them, Kato began to feel as if he was actually growing numb to the reality around him. For even with the tracking device that had been built in to their collars to give away their location, still there came no sirens, no flashing of lights through the trees, nothing to indicate that anyone even knew they were there or would be coming to their rescue. And then came the most damning realization of all. That no one would be coming, because no one even cared. A prisoner of his own mind and body, Kato fell to his knees as the collar released him. Johnathan's command. You can't move, until I'm done. Echoed throughout his mind like mocking laughter. And now it was too late, too late to do anything to save her. It was too much, too much for even his heart to handle. Wanting to cry out in a wordless rage, Kato started tearing at the ground beneath him. Where is the sense in all of this! All my life, I've been taught how to protect others, told to save others, but now . . . With both hands he began ripping whole chunks of it free. I failed. Ignoring the pain it caused him, he clenched his fists and thought. For the first time in my life, I failed to protect someone who was within my reach! Beating his bloody fists against the earth, Kato tried to hold true to who and what he was, even as he felt his sense of self slowly beginning to slip away. Am I nothing now? He asked the night. Have I always been nothing? The person I swore to protect, he . . . he betrayed me! Clutching his forehead as the pain that he felt threatened to tear him in two, he thought. He did this to her, just so that he could hurt me, just so that he could punish me. Why? Why! What did I do that was so wrong? You were born. Said a voice inside his mind. And that, is crime enough. And the truth he found in that moment cut him deeper than any knife ever could. For he realized then, that evil was not some great and terrible thing as he had once been led to believe, to be rooted out and destroyed wherever it could be found, but that it was simply an accumulation of all the choices that people made, the good and the bad that finally led them astray. And in the end, that it was the results of those choices, that could truly be called evil. Tell me, Reaching up to the sky with open hands, desperate to take hold of the very thing he sought, Kato asked himself. Is there justice in any of this? Did I save a monster, only to grant him the freedom to do further harm? Is this . . . is this all that there is? This, endless shade of gray? With silence as his only reply, Kato felt as if the entire world were suddenly crumbling around him. Everything that he had known, everything that he had been taught, had just become a lie. Someone . . . anyone . . . tell me . . . what am I supposed to believe in now? Looking at Johnathan, watching him ignore everything and everyone around him in the mindless pursuit of his own gratification, Kato finally understood that he was no longer as powerless as he had once thought. That even if he hadn't been able to stop Johnathan from raping her, then the least he could do, was prevent him from doing her any further harm. Knowing that he had to wait until both Johnathan and Zack had fallen asleep before he could act, Kato stared up at the heavens through a veil of tears, as somewhere deep inside his heart, something infinitely precious, and irreplaceable; broke.
