Lynel Heart
#1 of Lynel Heart
In hindsight he should have listened to his father.
The older hylian had always told him to not overestimate himself just because of his lineage, however Kline was a hard headed elf. Stubborn, prideful, and very, very strong, the young blonde couldn't stand the fact that everyone around him constantly spoke about his grandfather and father without acknowledging anything he himself had ever done. He was the one who had single handedly fought off the horde of bokoblin that had been attempting to march upon the castle of Hyrule! It was he who taken an arrow to the chest to protect the queen's daughter when the younger princess had wanted to go out flowering picking in the middle of the wild plains outside the castle! And it was he who was destined to wield the legendary sword of his forefather in defense of the kingdom!
However, no one ever acknowledged any of his great feats.
People instead preferred to speak about his grandfather who had put down a rebellion of lynels attempting to march upon the castle, and his father who had single handedly taken down a horde of stone talus. That attack happened a year ago, damn it!
Kline spat as he got up from the dirt, blood leaking from his lips. The impact of his body hitting the boulder behind him had probably shifted some of his ribs into the wrong place inside of him but the young elfen male paid the pain in his chest no mind, his entire focus was instead spent on the opponent in front of him. Shakily picking himself up from the grass the blonde haired twenty year old glared bloody murder at the beast who had just swatted him aside like deku scrub, green eyes burning in rage as the stupid beast smirked at him as though he were beaten. Kneeling down to pick up his steel sabre he shook his head, his long mane of gold releasing small beads of sweat into the night air, before pulling his left leg back to take up his preferred battle stance against the four legged leonine brute. The red maned creature chuckled, its long tail swaying behind its centaurian backside almost comically as it kicked at the worn earth beneath its hooven feet.
Kline knew now that he would not be able to defeat the beast if he played fair, his aching ribs attested to this obvious fact. With this truth in mind the hylian warrior knew that there was only one way for him to win, however, in order to cement his victory he would have to climb upon the beast's backside. That would mean that he would have to time his next movements near perfectly, otherwise he would be eviscerated by the creature's massive broadsword which shifted tauntingly in between the creature's massive bronze paws. The beast probably figured that he would dodge to the left with the way it shifted much of the massive weapon's weight towards his right side.
Kline smirked, his eyes narrowing as he made a lewd gesture at the other.
The leonine creature snarled in response, sharpened canines winking within the light of the full moon.
A flash of movement sent both warriors forward. Neither would know who moved first but as the lynel swung its blade onto his left Kline ducked down, sliding across the ground with the force of inertia. The lynel's blade swept the air, the steel carving into the boulder the elfen youth had just been standing in front of with a sickening scraping sound that twisted the hylian's stomach. Kline didn't let his disquietude linger for long as he rolled onto the ground, his body curling up once he finally stopped sliding forward, and then sprang up to grab the fifteen foot tall creature's sinewy tail.
The horned beast yelped as its oft forgotten appendage was yanked hard enough to propel Kline up onto its back. The feeling of something on its backside immediately sent the centaurian creation into a fit of roaring and flailing about, instinct demanding that it get the unwanted creature from off its body. Kline held tight though, his stamina training paying off in spades as the red maned beast kicked, jumped, snarled, and wrestled to knock him off. A moment of stillness by the other as it fought to catch its breath sent the elf into motion.
Climbing up further onto the lynel's body until he was able to get up to its shoulders Kline wrapped his arms around the leonine's massive throat, and then pulled backwards. Because he still had his sabre in hand he was able to cut through the red fur of the leonine creature's throat fur to get to its meaty neck. The lynel, sensing the young warrior's plan, brought its head down to shake itself in hopes of throwing the youth off. However, Kline held fast, rage and desperation feeding him the adrenaline needed to pull backwards.
Blood flew out into the night at the same time two roars sounded into the air.
A moment later the only sound to be heard was that of a massive form hitting the ground with a painful sounding thud, this was quickly followed in turn by two much smaller masses dropping onto the ground beside the slightly twitching mass.
Looking up at the mother moon Kline found himself panting with fast and shallow breaths as his dilated green eyes stared up at the darkness looming above him.
A chuckle then left the young elf's mouth, the unsteady guffaws soon transforming into a maddening laugh as he realized what he had just done.
****
The feeling of his father's fist hitting him against the side of his head made stars blossom within Kline's vision. To say that the older hylian was not pleased with him would have been putting things mildly. Again, in hindsight he understood why, but it didn't make his next words any less venomous as he shouted at his sire, the older elf's eyes flew wide just in time for Kline to hit him in the face with the full force of his repressed anger.
The sound of the door to their home slamming open was the only thing to register to the older blonde haired elf as he lifted himself up from off of the wood floor to wipe blood from his nose. Blue eyes lowered sadly as he tracked the sight of his son fleeing into the night, bloody footsteps the only sign that the young warrior had ever been within the home they had shared.
Kline didn't stop running even as he heard the guards at the castle gate call out to him in panic. His wild emotions were too strong; the feeling of anger, sadness, fear, and dejection filled his pounding heart so much so that there was no chance for his mind to try and dissuade him from his thoughtless movements. Through the darkness he ran, his steps only being slowed by the large satchel which was strapped tightly to his back, the contents of which bled liberally behind him.
How long he ran Kline would never know, his soul just screamed at him to continue moving forward through the plains to someplace far away from the home that would never accept him for the warrior that he was.
The sun found him still running, though at a much slower pace, his steps as shaky as his breaths, yet the young elf continued to push his body onwards. He had to get away. Had to make it so that the judging eyes of his father would fade into the darkness of his mind where they would never again be able to pierce him with the contemptuous glare the other hylian had showered upon him. It was an upturned root that halted Kline's steps.
A yelp kissed the air as he tumbled forward, his lithe young form rolling once, twice, and then a third before he met the bank of a river.
Unable to find the strength to stand the blonde haired hylian merely remained where he was on the ground, his eyes clenched tightly as he fought against the feeling of defeat which gnawed at his heart like a curse.
Dawn found him slowly passing into unconsciousness, his mind finally gaining enough control to shut down his body in order to give the youth the opportunity to rest. It was during Kline's slumber that a shadow fell over him.
****
The smell of cooking food roused him from his sleep.
Blinking green orbs open, the young elf gasped as he noticed that he was in the presence of a lynel. The massive creature, though a fair bit smaller that the one he had slayed, turned its red maned head to look at him, crimson eyes curious. Kline grunted as he looked over the centaurian body of the massive creature at rest onto the ground, legs curled underneath itself, tail rolling back behind it slowly. Acting on instinct Kline rolled back away from the fire pit he had been placed next to, his hand reaching out for his sabre. The youth blinked in confusion as he whipped his head down. The sight of his naked form staring back at him caused the hylian to gasp, a deep flush covering his pale cheeks as he knelt down to cover his privates.
A hearty laugh made Kline roll his eyes over to the big beast. The creature, who by all rights could easily kill him with a swipe of its massive paws, seemed to regard him with a strong case of amusement but nothing else as it turned to reach out for the meat which was slowly roasting over the fire pit it had made. That the leonine beast made no move to attack him was slightly puzzling for the hylian, however Kline merely assumed that the other had some kind of nefarious plan in store for him. Having come face to face with the fierce intelligence of the quadrupedal feline monsters after he had tracked one of them down in order to challenge it to single combat the blonde haired elf was well aware of how calculating the centaurian beasts could be.
Flipping his head around Kline took note of the fact that he was inside of a camp area, the sight of bed roll and various barrels strewn about a telltale sign that the creature, or something else, made this place its home. Green eyes swept around wildly as the young elf tried to search for his clothing and other gear. A dark rumble drew his attention back to the horned monster. A single paw-like hand pointed a gargantuan finger towards the hylian's trademark green tunic and brown slacks hanging from a massive tree, flecks of water dripping from the articles of clothing onto the grassy knoll underneath.
Confusion ripped through Kline as he tried to make sense of what he was seeing.
Slowly turning his head back to the red maned beast he thought to ask the other a question before remembering his lessons regarding the lynel race. The creatures, while quite intelligent, didn't possess a language that any hylian could make sense of; the boisterous roars, barks, hisses, and chuffs of the other's race were too reminiscent of the great felines who lived within the depths of the darkest forests to be understood. Since he didn't have the natural magical ability to translate the calls of animals into words Kline decided to forgo conversation in favor of making a desperate plan. Shaking his head, he crouched down, green eyes watching the other carefully, before he began to slowly ease himself over to where his clothes were.
The lynel watched him, crimson eyes staring somewhat indifferently into fiery jade orbs which seemed hungry to challenge him. When Kline darted for the tree where his clothes were hanging he jumped up to swipe his pants from off the branch they hung on. Still damp, despite the heat of the midday sun baking them, he raced around the tree to clumsily place the article of clothing onto his lower half. Once he was sufficiently clothed Kline popped his head around the tree to stare at the centaurian beast, his green eyes narrowed as he searched around for his sword.
The lynel chuckled as it lifted the meat it had taken from the spit up to its muzzle. An impressive bite into the cooked meat brought drool down onto the leonine creature's chin, yet that wasn't what really captured Kline's attention. The hylian gaped for a second time today when a long sinuous tail slid around the red maned beast's backside to reveal both his weapon and the bloody satchel he had, had on his person earlier. A growl tore at the youth's lips as he glared hatefully at the monster. Another chuckle slipped from the lynel before it maneuvered its tail to drop the two items onto the ground next to it, an obvious challenge if there ever was on.
Now, despite what some people back at the capital said, Kline was not stupid. Brash, yes, however, his father had not raised a fool. The young hylian was well aware that if he tried to go for his things right at that moment the monster would more than likely rip him apart with barely a flick of its paw. Why it hadn't already done so still mildly confused him, however, that question Kline promised to figure out later on as he turned and then took off in the opposite direction of where the lynel's camp was. He could come back for his shirt and sword later, but first he needed to find a weapon that could substitute for the blade his father had forged for him.
And shoes.
The hylian tried not to think about what the creature had done with his greaves, his mind quickly shoving all the possibilities aside as they would force him to contemplate why the centaurian feline had stripped him bare in the first place. A rush of blood to his nether regions caused him to curse. Now was really not the time for that, he chided while noting the position of the sun in the sky.
It took a while of traveling before the he came upon a camp of bokoblins. The piglet creatures had been taken by complete surprise when he snuck into their area to take up one of their discarded weapons. A quick rush through the lot of them took care of the mob; there were only five of the short and tubby little red skinned creatures within the camp so they were hardly a challenge to someone of his skill level. When the last one was left dripping blood onto the warm earth Kline picked through the loot the group had, which really wasn't that much, but in finding a decent enough broadsword in a chest, not to mention some greaves, the young hylian felt himself ready to try and challenge the lynel.
The blonde just finished a baked apple when he returned to where the lynel's camp was. The beast didn't seem surprised when Kline snatched his now dry tunic up from off of the tree branch it was still hanging from, shucked the piece of clothing onto his body, and then came over to him. Sword in hand, the young warrior brandished the weapon before the red maned creature, his stance shifting wide as he prepared for the inevitable. The lynel didn't so much as utter a word as it pulled itself up from where it had been sitting in silence sharpening the edge of its own claymore with a whetstone to go over and stand in front of the hylian. The two warriors stared at each other for several minutes, the both of them gauging the other's respective attributes as the wind whipped their respective manes to the side.
And then the leonine centaurian made its move.
Rushing forward, its blade sweeping out into a wide arc, the twelve foot tall creature forced Kline to the side. The hylian grunted as he rolled twice before getting back up again. The lynel was able to stop its forward charge just in time to flip an ear backwards as the sound of boots crunching grass echoed throughout the area. The creature was well aware that it couldn't flip its mass around in time to counter the much smaller elf, and so instead it reared a leg backwards to try and kick at the other. Kline was prepared for this, having studied the battle tactics of these monsters earlier on. Sliding into the attack, the broadsword in his hands shifting so as to attack as a shield, the young elf grunted as he was forced backwards by the strength of the kick.
The sound of metal cracking filled Kine's ears but the hylian ignored the audible warning of his new weapon's imminent demise as he worked to catch his balance before he could fall on his as. Once he had collected himself Kline watched as the lynel turned around to face him. The red maned beast rolled its shoulders, the sound of popping bones consequently making the young elf's twitch, and then raised up its claymore once again. A forward charge found Kline grunting as his frantic mind tried to think of the best way to counter such an offensive tactics. His answer came as he threw his broadsword up into the air and then dropped down onto all fours. The lynel was completely caught off guard by this tactic, having never expected the other warrior to give up his weapon. Rushing over the other, its massive form unable to stop once it was in motion, the horned leonine beast hissed as another of its attacks met air for a second time. Flipping its head backwards, the red maned centaurian realized exactly what Kline had done and why as it watched the other's sleek form move into action.
Leaping up to catch the broadsword before it could clatter to the ground, the hylian skidded to halt, turned, and then made his own forward charge. The lynel prepared to kick out once again, however, before it could do so the hylian grabbed its tail making the beast release a feline yelp of pain. Pulling himself up onto the other's back Kline chuckled as he grabbed the beast's long flowing man in preparation for the equine bucking he knew was coming, yet the joke was on him as the lynel dropped down onto the ground and then began to roll around. Pain flared throughout his being as the three quarter ton beast crushed him against the ground, though thankfully the other didn't stay on top of him as it continued to roll its massive form all the way over until it could slowly spring back up onto its hooves.
Dazed, Kline grunted as he shakily pulled himself to his feet.
When the edge of the beast's claymore touched the side of his cheek fear forced him to freeze into place. Turning to look over his shoulder green eyes found crimson orbs gazing back at him, the lynel's face blank. When Kline tightened his grip on his broadsword the edge of the claymore at his neck pressed deeper into his throat. A slow trickle of blood ran down his left side, the effect of the recent sharpening no doubt. A curse slipped free from the elf's neck before he released his weapon. When the claymore was taken away from him to be replaced instead by a meaty hand Kline realize that in hindsight he should have listened to his father as he awaited the killing blow.
****
The Goddess were capricious creatures it seemed. Or at least this what Kline thought as he found himself sitting across from the lynel who was feasting upon recent kill it had brought down with its previously ignored archery tools. That the red maned beast had allowed him to live was shocking to the hylian, to say the least, however, it was nothing compared to the centaurian creature having lifted him up by his torso to stare at him face to face. There was something to be said for looking a wild predator directly in the eyes, especially one who was equally as intelligent as oneself. Kline would never know exactly what went through the beast's mind as it brought him over to its muzzle, the young elf expected to have his head bitten off and that be the end of things. However, when a gargantuan tongue lolled out to lick at the side of his bloodied neck, the feel of which left Kline frozen in pure disbelief, the hylian could say without a doubt that the maneuver was one of the strangest ones that he had ever encountered. And that was topping the time an undead bokoblin had thrown its own head at him when he had been trying to clear out a forest filled with the skeletal creatures.
The lynel had gently set him down soon after, seemingly satisfied with itself, and then gone off somewhere. Kline hadn't know what to think. His brain even now was still trying to make sense of what had just happened. In the hour that it took him to make sense of everything the leonine centaurion had returned to the camp with a freshly killed carcass, blood streaming down onto its bronzed hide, and then set it down before the hylian. Kline hadn't known what to think as he watched the other set down his bow and arrow and then moved off to the side to stare at him.
Now, the young elf's first thought had been to simply just walk away. He had lost the fight but still had his life, an oddity when it came to the silent code of the warrior, however, in trying to scoot off Kline had received a warning growl for his troubles. So obviously that was out. Turning to look back at the horned centaurian creature, who continued to watch him with the impassive face all felines seemed to naturally posses, he then dropped his head down to the fresh kill in front of him. A candle lit up in his mind a moment later when the lynel tossed something over to him. Green eyes looked over a set of carving knives that were as big as machetes for several seconds before turning to stare at the red maned beast in wonder.
Again, the creature bore an impassive look upon its leonine face but Kline was a smart enough boy to get the message. That was how he found himself cleaning out the slain animal in front of him, his mind shifting from the why he was doing this to the what would happened after he was done. A small part of him suggested that he slip one of the knives onto his side and then use that to try and attack the beast when the lynel least expected it, however, his elven pride wouldn't allow for such a dirty tactic. He had lost to a better warrior, and if the other chose to kill him then it would be within its right to do so.
Later into the evening after he had finished his own meal, the beast having allowed him to eat his fill before taking the rest for itself, Kline was still waiting for the other shoe to drop. Watching the lynel eat the majority of the roasted meat the other had placed over the fire pit it had created the hylian wondered when the ending blow would come. His fearful mind displaying the image of his gruesome death within the darkness of his mind in various detail, the likes of which made his stomach churn painfully. Yet such a thing never came, even when the meat that the two of them had shared was nothing more than bones. Kline watched the feline creature for several dozen minutes without making a sound, his green eyes taking in the sight of its chiseled bronzed upper torso with some measure of awe, before his rational sense smacked him upside the head. The lynel let out a rude roar-like belch which shook the ground before it reached down to scratch at the blood drying onto its bronze hide.
Kline said nothing as he watched the other raise up from where it had been sitting to go over to the river. Slowly slipping into the water the leonine creature quickly splashed water over itself in an attempt to get itself clean before stepping back out onto the grass once again. A quick shake found water spraying every which way before the beast returned to its spot next to the fire. Watching as the the centaurian creature settled itself down for the night, Kline once again thought about walking off as green eyes watched the monster drift off to sleep. Yet, he couldn't. And not because he didn't want to, but because the other still possessed his sword, the beast having taken it after setting him back to the earth. That thought made a spark flicker within the hylian's soul.
Slowly getting up, the young elf padded over to where the lynel had stored his father's sword, the intent to take it as clear as day. A massive paw reached out to snatch him up right before his pale fingers could grip the pommel of the blade. Vertigo overtook Kline as the red maned centaurian raised him up and then dropped him hard onto the ground. Pain once again flared through his backside, but before he could get intimate with the familiar sensation a bellowing roar shook every bone within his body. That he didn't go deaf was a miracle, however, said miracle was quite questionable when green eyes looked up into burning red orbs staring down at him angrily. Drool dripping across feral fangs, the lynel showed its obvious displeasure with him as it loomed up above Kline, bloody intent to eviscerate the other if he so much as thought about touching its battle trophy quite clear to the young elf.
Swallowing thickly as his eyes watched a trickle of drool drip from the beast's muzzle down onto his face, Kline turned his head to the side, his wounded neck an unconscious offering to the greater warrior. A heavy sniff filled the silent night as the feline monster breathed in the scent of the hylian's submission. When a warm tongue brushed against the side of his recently healed neck Kline shivered. A chuckle bounced against his ears just as the lynel pulled back from off of him. Rolling his head over to watch as the other settled back down into place, the young elf stayed where he was on the ground for a very long time as he tried to figure out why, again, he wasn't dead.
Surely death didn't take holidays, but this was thrice now that the same creature had failed to kill him, by choice no less. An untold number of minutes flew by as Kline remained where he was, his mind and heart arguing with each other loud enough to give him a headache as his instincts and rationale tried to make sense of everything. It was only when the mother moon swam up overhead that the young elf decided to simply drift off to sleep, his fatigued body too worn down to try get up again. Crimson eyes watched the hylian carefully before turning to regard the fire pit which crackled and popped merrily without pause.
The painful feeling of something tearing into his shoulder made Kline instantly snap to wakefulness.
Green eyes flew open only to find the lynel from the night before once again looming above him, one of the creature's massive paws holding him down as the claw from its other paw cut a jagged edge into the side of his shoulder deep enough to make blood run down onto the ground. The young elf thought to shout at the beast, however, before he could his eyes nearly exploded out of his head as he watched the leonine creature reach over to take a piece of burning wood from the fire pit. Bringing it up to his muzzle to blow over it, the hylian felt panic overtake him as he watched the burning red stick get lowered to his shoulder.
A hellish scream bellowed throughout the dawn as white hot pain flared through Kline's body. The lynel paid no attention to the other, instead, the leonine beast merely rolled the crimson tip of the wood down the scar it had made. Once it was sure that the injury was cauterized the centaurian beast leaned down to lick over the hylian, the heat and taste of scarred flesh making it purr wantonly. When the lynel moved away from him Kline immediately snapped up to look at his shoulder, the sight of the fresh scar filling him with a sense of rage the likes of which he had never known before.
Not caring what the beast would do to him for it, the young elf ran over to where his sword lay and then brandished it at the beast. The lynel's red mane flew with the wind as he turned his head to glare at the hylian for his audacity. The roar the young warrior released made feline's lips pull up into a wicked smile as the horned beast chuckled at the elf.
****
And that was how things went between the pair, Kline attacking the red maned centaurian with the full force of the strength within his body, his pride roaring at him to make the other paw for marking his unblemished flesh. The second fight between the pair lasted much longer than the first, the young hylian showing impressing swordplay as he attacked the twelve foot titan of bronze flesh and red fur in an attempt to repay him for his new scar. In a span of an hour both were sweat soaked and panting as they fought with each other without pause; their tactics shifting from power plays that made their swords cross together, to misleading psychological feints which would break the other's concentration in order to leave the other wide open to attack. Kline felt some satisfaction whenever his blade cut into bronze flesh, the sound of lynel's pain filled roars stirring something dark and feral within his own heart, however, a misstep sent him crashing into the ground.
The feline was on him fast and hard.
The heavy body of the centaurian creature prevented him from getting up as it grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and then planted him face first into the ground. Darkness and pain swept the hylian up before he could think to get up to counter the assault.
It was hours later when his body realized that there was still a flicker of life left within the young elf. Igniting the flicker until it became a burning blaze Kline groaned and then blinked open his bleary eyes. The day was mostly at the end by the time he noticed that, a, he was still alive, b, he was naked again, and c, the lynel was off to the side bowing before a recently made grave marker. The hylian had no idea of what was going on, but when the beast flipped and ear towards him, its massive form turning to gaze at him with expressionless red eyes, a sense of defeat once again filled his core.
The lynel said nothing as he marched over to the other; like before he lifted Kline up into the air by his torso to stare into the hylian's green eyes. Minutes passed as the two warriors looked at one another before the young elf turned to show his bloody neck to the beast. A lick preceded the young warrior being gently placed back onto the ground, the centaurian creature turning to go off about his way. Dinner was once again brought back by the leonine centaurian, Kline cleaning it without a word, before the red maned beast set the carcass over the fire pit to roast.
A quiet meal followed with the pair falling to sleep in their respective places on the ground. The morning found the centaurian creature marking him with his claw one again, this time down the side of his opposing shoulder, a press of hot wood against the new injury forever scarring Kline. The young elf said nothing, his pride roaring at him to get up and pay the bastard back. Once the lynel moved away the hylian went to get his clothes, his mind silently wondering why he had been stripped bare, and then took up his sword to challenge the creature for a third time.
Another loss found another mark being placed upon his body.
In the days that passed the lynel worked to cover Kline's entire body with the proof of his victories over the young elf. None of this was to say that Kline didn't place his own signs of conquest upon the bronze hide of the beast, his sword drunk deeply of the other's blood when swift movements left the red maned creature's side and rear exposed to the polished steel. However, for each wound the hylian placed onto the lynel the creature returned the favor thrice in kind, the other's claymore often being used to bat Kline into trees and boulders over and over again as though he were a living rag doll, the young warrior's heart refused to surrender the fight as he got up time and time again.
Weeks of this went by, the pair fighting harder and harder with only the impassive sun watching them as it raced across the sky before being overshadowed by the mother moon. In the time that they spent fighting with each other both warriors found their swordplay abilities growing greater and greater, yet each time Kline lost the same scene repeated itself. The young elf didn't question his role between them as he cleaned the kills brought into the camp, his mind too focused on thinking up a tactic for which he could use to defeat the lynel. The dominance of the greater beast was so great that the hylian didn't feel slighted whenever he was forced into cleaning the meals the other warrior brought for them.
One month into this strange relationship the elf's lower body was riddled with battle scars, the lynel having even gone so far as to mark his buttocks as though he were some domesticated farm animal while chuckling at him in that infuriating way that made Kline's pulse race.
Anger became a flame which refused to die within the hylian's heart, something the lynel found amusing to no end every night he raised the hylian up to stare into the young warrior's burning green eyes. Yet, even with the fire roaring inside of his like a volcano there was an unspoken code between the two warriors, a set of rules for which the pair adhered to despite conversation never flying between them.
One of these rules was that neither could challenge the other while they slept, slumber being a time of peace that was sacred to both warriors.
A second rule was that they were not to attack each other while the other was defenseless, this one took some time to cross Kline's mind, though it became very clear when the lynel had forced him to move through the plains to escape the dancing thunder which struck the middle of their camp hard enough to make their fire pit explode. Rain pouring down both of their hides as they ran, the pair found themselves forced to take shelter within a nearby cave to escape the arrows of the goddess which seemed keen to pierce them. While huddled together in the cave the elf had the single thought to try and take up arms against the red maned beast while the other shivered while shaking his red mane free of the cold pelt of rain which had soaked him, however, his honor set such a thought to the side. In that time as the two of them listened to the storm outside rage on both warriors huddled close to another another, Kline's smaller bulk fitting comfortably within the groove the lynel's body made as the centaurian creature curled upon on the ground to sleep. It was during this time that the hylian came to realize that the lynel was male...and very much so at that.
While that should have probably been obvious a while back now, the fact made VERY clear as the hylian found his body pressed against the girth of the dozing male's warm sheath. Fire overtook Kline's mind as a deep flush branded itself across his youthful features. That the other's heavy masculine scent surrounded him the same as the lynel's bulk, the musky heated stink of virile male burning him hotter than any piece of burning wood could, served to make his body writhe with a strange form of tension he had never paid much attention to before then. Carefully moving himself away from the very large pouch of fur and flesh the other possessed Kline was completely unaware of a single crimson eye looking upon him as he scooted forward. That he woke up just before dawn with the other's long sinuous tail wrapped around his waist, body pressed close to the slightly aroused equine manhood which had slipped out of the the hole of the sheath, was something Kline didn't understand, however, when his companion awoke an hour later to release himself without saying a word the hylian put the entire incident out of his mind. Though a quick sniff of his body revealed a strange musk having overtaking his arms and chest, the scent lingering with him for the rest of the day as the pair returned to their camp to pick up the pieces of what still remained.
A third rule was that both had to be decently enough clean before they could fight. The lynel made this perfectly clear the morning after he finished marking the young elf for the umpteenth time during the month. Grabbing the other and then taking him to a nearby river the feline creature tossed the elf into the water, unmindful if he could swim or not. Thankfully Kline's father had taught him how to do so as the hylian broke the surface of the water to swear at the biggest male, ironically the first few words he had spoken to the other ever since their initial encounter. The lynel merely chuckled and then stepped into the water, nearly half of its lower body getting submerged for its trouble. The pair washed in silence, soap a luxury neither had on them. One they were reasonable clean the two warriors walked out of the river, the lynel shaking himself down like an overgrown housecat while Kline desperately shielded himself with his hands.
A fourth rule was that no other creature could try and attack the pair without severe repercussions. A mob of passing bokoblins found this out the hard way as they tried to raid the pair's campsite one evening while the pair were resting. The lynel woke Kline up with a roar as arrows filled the sky where their camp was situated. Because of his smaller size the young hylian was able to get out of the way of the falling projectiles, however the much larger centaurian wasn't so lucky. Several arrows pelted his shoulders, arms, and backside spurring the red maned beast into a fury that Kline surprisingly understood. The two worked in time with one another to take down the bokoblins horde before they could strike again, the duo's fighting styles completing one another's as the lynel cleaved through the mob while Kline cut down the stragglers, leaving none to run away to possibly regroup for a counteroffensive later.
A fifth rule came after the four as, once they returned back to camp, Kline wordlessly pulled the arrows the from the lynel, the other roaring as his flesh was torn in the process. A lick against one of the arrow tips revealed to Kline that there no poison on them, something the hylian was unconsciously grateful for. When the red maned centaurian tried to get a stick of fire from the fire pit Kline sidestepped him. The leonine beast growled at the other but was quickly silenced when the young elf went to grab some herbs from nearby, crushing them with a rock and then stripping some cloth from his shirt to use as bandages. The lynel remained silent as the other administered to him, his red eyes watching how the smaller warrior worked about his body until he finally moved back with a satisfied nod. The pair said nothing as they returned to sleep, though both of them did sleep closer to one another that night.
There were other unspoken rules but these five were the most sacred and therefore unbreakable between the pair. Even three months later, with both elf and lynel having moving their camp twice over after being attacked by marauding rock talus, the two held tight to these truths.
It was during a battle with one another, Kline having gotten the upper hand on the leonine beast to the point where he wrapped his arms around the other's throat, his sabre running tightly across the horned monster's neck, that the lynel stopped fighting. This confused the elf as he was sure the other had some plan for trying to toss him off...that was until he noticed something. Green eyes widened at the feeling of hot blood covering his hands. Immediately Kline pulled the weapon away from the other, his body shivering as he hopped off the lynel's backside to look down at his hands. Coated as they were in thick red liquid it was obvious that he had dealt a very heavy blow to the other, yet Kline didn't know what he felt as he slowly turned to look up at...at...
The lynel chuckled as it reached up to press its paw against the wound. Red eyes looked down upon the hylian with a deep admiration, the pair standing at a strange precipice as the wind blew between them across the grassy knoll that surrounded their campsite.
