Of Men and Dragons: Chapter 20
#22 of Of Men and Dragons: The last Knight
So... I´m sorry for the delay on this one. There was just a lot going on lately and didn't have any motivation or energy to write something. But now I finally sat down and finished this on the weekend. I really hope delays like that don´t happen again, but I´m sure they will at some point. Anyway, I´m quite happy with this one, and I hope you are as well!
Cyrvanyx takes some time to visit his family. He meets his mother before he gets ambushed by one of his brothers...
Cold were the skies above the dragon clan as winter got closer by the day. It seemed that soon snow would fall from the sky and coat the land in a white blanket. Winter would arrive sooner than usual, which could either be very good or very bad, depending on how many supplies the forces of Albia had and how many Ulric had.
It was something that kept Cyrvanyx' mind busy as he was on his way to the home of his mother. He tried to ignore all the worries he had that considered his family by thinking of other things, like the war, or also Ary. Even though he arrived almost a week ago he did not take any time to meet his family, which was mainly thanks to his father who he never really liked. So He did not visit them until Arylaryl told him to do so. After thinking about it for a while he decided that she was right, so he began to fly towards his parent's home.
Outside of the vale, in the more northern mountains was the cave his mother and father lived in. The two of them owned its surrounding lands, although it was not much. The lack of territory to claim was the main reason many young dragons left the safety of the clan in order to claim their own lands and win renown. His parents though, or at least his mother, did not care about those things anymore and worried more about the future of their sons.
Worries got hold of him when he saw the cave in the distance. He really just hoped that his father was not there. Inside a rather large mountain, almost at the top, was the entrance to their cave. It was totally impossible to get there without the ability to fly, making it the perfect place to live for a dragon. Underneath him a narrow river meandered through the grass and woodland at the foot of the mountain. The highlands were slowly dwindling that far north of Albia. He was not sure if the ground he was flying over was even still seen as Albia or if that was already part of the kingdom north of them.
Cyrvanyx let out roar to announce his arrival. He did not have to wait long before an answer came that was clearly his mother welcoming him. A smile crept on his snout as he heard her calling out to him. It was a sound that awoke many good memories in his mind. He beat his wings more swiftly in order to reach his beloved mother faster. Hearing her call out meant that his father was not there.
He slowed down as he neared the cave. He softly landed in front of the entrance very close to the edge since the plateau in front of the cave was not very big. He folded his wings, the frills on the back of his neck slightly rising as he stepped into the cave filled with excitement. Finally he could walk past an entrance without having to worry that his wings could scrape the wall, like he had to inside the order.
Once inside he was filled with an almost nostalgic like feeling, recognizing everything from the way the cave looked to the trophies his brothers and his parents gathered. Having spent so much time at the order he forgot how big this cave actually was. Just the dome shaped main chamber was already as big as the order's main hall. The other chambers, some of which were too small for them to enter, only added to the enormous size.
The main chamber was where most of the treasure and valuables were displayed so that any visitor would see their wealth right when they enter the cave. Trophies from various successful hunts were all on full display on shelves that hang on the wall, reaching from antlers to fur and even a helmet or two from dragon slayers that dared to enter the highlands of Albia. The shelves were not the only thing that humans built for the dragons inside the cave. Red curtains that were fixed to the ceiling, hiding the other two chambers of the cave behind them.
There were many trophies he recognized, like the skulls of the first animals he and his brothers had successfully hunted on their own. The treasure though he mostly did not even remember. Chests filled with gold and silver stood piled up in the of the chamber, next to bookshelves that were lined up at the walls, stuffed with books they could not even read. Some barrels stood in another corner and more chests alongside them, filled with silk and human clothes this time.
It was strange. He had no idea where they could have gotten all those things. The idea that highlanders from the vale gave them all that was impossible, especially because all those things looked foreign in a way. Only way to find out was to ask his mother.
Just as that thought crossed his mind the curtains that divided the bed chamber from the rest of the cave parted as a slender dragoness stepped through. Dark crimson were her scales, the ones on her chest a bit lighter than the rest of her. The frills behind her ears and on the back of her neck were slightly darker than her scales, just like her wing membranes and the frills on the end of tail. Her silver eyes were locked on him as she padded towards him with a smile.
"Cyrvanyx..." Her voice was filled with nothing but happiness as she rubbed her neck against his and hugged him with a foreleg. "Oh if only you know how much I missed you." She gave him two affectionate licks on his neck. "I'm so glad that you still live. But I should have known that my son would never get himself killed by some petty humans."
He returned her licks then retreated his neck to look into her eyes. "I missed you too. But the humans that attacked the order were not as petty as the usual. If that was the case then the order would still stand."
She just smiled at him. "Anyway, I'm glad you are here." Another lick followed her words, on his forehead this time. "I see you still take daily baths. You look very handsome, Cyr. You've grown very strong while serving the order."
"Well of course." He proudly said, holding a paw to his chest. "What else would you expect from me?" He smirked at her in a smug way, but she just frowned at him and retreated her head, her neck curling into an S shape. The smirk on his muzzle vanished. "That eh... doesn't suit me does it?"
She shook her head, giggling. "No, not at all you Cyr. Looked more like a poor imitation of your father."
Cyrvanyx burst out laughing at her comment, his wings shaking as he did. "Ahaha, yes, pretty accurate I would say." He sat down on his haunches and his smile began to fade slightly. "He's not here... is he?"
"No he is not..." She said, taking a few steps back while looking at him with a weird smirk. "But someone else is."
And who would that be? Before he could even put his thoughts into words someone jumped him, another dragon. Without any chance of fighting back he was wrestled on his back. He only barely managed to unfold his wings so they would not be crushed under his weight. He sucked in a breath as he felt a paw pushing him down and another grasp his balls. He locked eyes with the attacker to see that it was his elder brother, Akirunax. Aki's color scheme was the same as his own, only that Aki's eyes were silver instead of golden.
"Well hello there brother." Aki chuckled and tilted his head. "Long time no see. How are you?"
"Right now, I'm pinned to the ground by my stupid brother who-" His tongue stopped forming words the moment he felt his brother's grip tighten, sending a shiver down his back.
"If I were you I'd be careful what you say, little brother." He teased with a smirk on his snout. "Don't forget who won our brawls back in the days. That of course being-"
"Not always you." Cyr blurted out before his brother could even start to tell him how much of a great warrior he was. "And you shouldn't forget why I, even though you were stronger, won some of them as well." While he was talking he slowly slid his tail in between his brothers hind legs. When he ended his talk he curled his tail around Aki's balls and pulled, causing him to yelp in surprise.
Once he was off balance all he had to do was push him to the side with one of his forepaws, which he did with his ease. Then suddenly his brother was on his back, his wings unfolded, and Cyrvanyx was on top of him, getting a hold of both his forepaws. With one of his hind paws he stomped onto his brothers balls, tucking in his own tail in between his legs so that Aki could not do the same thing he just did.
"You are way too over confident and arrogant, makes you sloppy. You always told me to tuck my tail between my legs when I pinned down another dragon in a brawl, be that friendly or hostile. And yet that is the exact thing you didn't do." A smirk of pure smugness spread across Cyr's face. "That was why I called you my stupid brother."
Aki glared at him in frustration while tensing up from the pain coming from his groin. He hated losing more than anything, and Cyr knew that. As he started to struggle all he had to do was put more pressure on his balls and hold him down. There was no way for him out of this. And yet he still struggled, even as Cyr added more and more pressure.
His brother squirmed and shut his eyes as he visible was holding back to moan or groan. It went on for almost a minute of him struggling before a groan finally escaped his throat. "Arrghh... Just-just stop, I yield!"
And just like that Cyrvanyx immediately let him go and stepped off him. Akirunax let out a sigh of relief and rolled back on his belly, standing on wobbly legs as he was trying to hide his pain. "You just... got-uhhhh... lucky." He said in between groans of pain.
"Uhu, lucky... of course." Cyr smirked at his older brother, stretching out his chest in the fashion of his glorious victory.
Meanwhile their mother was standing next to them, shaking her head. "You both know that there are ways to brawl without endangering your fertility, right?"
"Ah yes we do." Aki responded, already fully recovered from the brawl. "But it wouldn't be so much fun without that particular weak spot to aim for."
"Oh? So you think it's fun to have get your balls beaten?" Cyr teased his brother again, cocking his head to the side.
"Pah, no. I think it is fun to do that to someone else and see them squirm." He smirked viciously. "Especially you."
Cyrvanyx glared at his brother with narrowed eyes. "You can always try again. I wouldn't mind pinning you down again." As the two of them were trying to provoke the other to their mother walked by, towards the exit.
"You two do whatever you want, I'll go on a hunt."
Cyr was too focused on his brother that he did not hear her say that. Only when he heard wing beats outside did he remember that he wanted to ask her a question. "Ehm... wait! Mother!" He turned towards the exit, but she was already gone. He sighed, but did not bother to follow her.
"What is the problem now?" Aki asked in a strangely concerned way as he sat down on his haunches.
"It's nothing." He too sat down, his full attention turning towards his brother again. "I just wanted to ask her about something."
"Alright then." He smiled at him. Both of them gazed around the cave for a bit. None said a word, filling the cave in utter silence. An awkward silence was about to consume them, but then Aki spoke up. "So, how's life?"
Blandly he just stared at his brother for a while. Neither of them were the type for these kind of conversations, so it surprised him that Aki suddenly asked him such a weirdly normal question. "Err... as good as it can be in our current situation." He sighed. A few painful images rushed through his mind. "You know... the war and everything."
"Why are you still bothering about the human wars? You are here now. You are home. These things shouldn't bother you."
"Oh yes I should be bothered. Everyone here should. I was..." He trailed off and finished his sentence with a sigh. "I'll wait with this kind of talk when I meet the highclaws. Can we talk about something more pleasurable?"
"Sure!" He took a sudden change in his tone, going from serious to cheerful in seconds. "Let's talk about females and mating then!"
Oh no... that was what Cyrvanyx feared he would say. His ears lowered as he sighed once again, in annoyance this time. His eyes wandered towards the cave exit, so that they would look anywhere except his brother.
"Oh? Are you still uncomfortable about this topic, little brother? Come one, how old are you?" His question was accompanied by a brief chuckle and a tilt of his head.
He turned his gaze at Aki, frowning at him almost angrily. "It's not like that!"
"Well then explain to me why this is uncomfortable for you? I already assumed that you did not get to mate with anyone in the time you were away. So if that is the problem then I can help you with that." He said the last words with pride, holding a paw to his chest.
"I do not need your help with anything that is related to mating, Aki. Besides I have more important things to do and also lived a happy live without that pleasure until now."
"More important things? Like waiting for a meeting with the clan leaders and talking to your older brother about mating." He chuckled. "You might have lived a happy live without it so far, but you will live an even happier one with it." A smirk ran across his muzzle. "I promise you that."
All Cyr did was roll his eyes. "It's not like I don´t want to ever do it! I just... I don't think you can help me with my problem."
"And what would that be then? What is there I do not know about females and mating, huh? Is it about a certain female? Do you... favor someone?" Just by the slight change in Cyr´s facial expression and by the fact that he his cheeks began taking on a bit of a red hue he knew that the answer was yes. "Oh... so that is it then. I think I already know who..." He leaned forward a bit, whispering her name. "Arylaryl."
Hearing him say her name like that made him shiver all over his body, his cheeks turning even more red than before. "Ha, I'd say that is a yes. I can already smell your desire for her." Cyr lowered his head in embarrassment. "Oh, come on, Cyr. You as a male dragon shouldn't be ashamed for being attracted to such a beautiful female." He leaned in to whisper again. "Just imagine her laying in front of you, exposing her rear to you. Imagine how it would feel to be inside her. Imagine her warm, tight and wet-"
"Just stop already!" He finally raised his head, telling his brother to stop tormenting him in such a way.
"Hehehe, right, sorry... we wouldn't want to get you hard right now, would we?"
"Ah, get mounted!"
Aki just laughed at Cyr's reactions and responds. But Cyrvanyx was not having fun anymore. His brother might be fun, but he rarely knows when the fun stops and it starts getting serious. This was one of those moments.
He lifted a forepaw and put it on his brother's shoulder. "Aki, stop, I mean it." The tone of his voice and the death stare he was giving him finally told him that it was enough.
"Oh ehm... sorry, brother... I just got-"
"Carried away. Yes, I know. It is not the first time that happened. But..." He stopped, thinking how to best form his next sentence in order for Aki to take him seriously. "I could maybe use some... actual advice from you. I know you have a mate so..."
"Advice you how to win a females favor? With pleasure brother!" He cleared his throat. "If you just want to get under her tail it will be very easy for you, I mean, look at you! You are strong and handsome. Maybe a bit shy at times but overall very confident. So I'd say all you have to do is offer yourself and she will accept."
Cyr rolled his eyes. Wow what useful advice, he thought. "It doesn't work that easy-"
"Oh but it does! Your mind is still stuck in the human world. We don't need to have a ceremony to be mates. You two don't even have to be mates in order to share pleasure. Have you forgotten that mating is just another way of showing affection? Is your head still stuck inside that castle?"
"I know of our traditions Aki, but you don't know her like I do." Cyr gulped, thinking if he was actually allowed to him. "She has had bad... experiences with males in the past. Her former mate constantly forced himself upon her even if she didn't want to or if she was hurt by the things he did."
"Mhmm... this makes things more complicated then..." He glanced away as he was busy thinking. "She sees you not as a potential mate, but rather as a friend, maybe even as a brother figure. And well if that is the case... then... ehm... it's over."
"What?" His eyes widened "What do you mean?"
"If you are really like a brother to her than the chance for you to get under her tail is very, very small. Unless of course mating with her brother is her thing..." He grinned at Cyrvanyx, but he did not even chuckle, not to mention smile. "Right...sorry... ehm, well you can honestly only hope that you are not like that for her."
"Yes, yes, this destroying my hopes is all very helpful, but tell me something actually useful! What am I to do? How do I show her that I... love... her, in a subtle way?" Strange thing how hard it was to say that he loved her out aloud...
"Mhm, in a subtle way you say?" Aki looked at the ceiling, taping his jaw with an unsheathed claw. "How about... you have some private time with her? You remember the hot springs?"
"Of course I do!"
"Well then ask her if you two could make a trip there. And when only the two of you are there you can talk, cuddle and... oh well it doesn't have to get that far. I mean, it would be more fun for sure. The first time me and my first mate had some time for ourselves..." He trailed off, looking at him in confusion. "What was I talking about?"
For once, Cyrvanyx started laughing at his brother's attempt of being funny. "You are terrible... but thank you, brother."
Aki bowed his head deep with a smug smirk painted across his muzzle. "Akirunax the terrible, always at your service, brother."
Cyr's gaze wandered towards the exit as he carefully thought about his brother's advice. He knew that his brother might not be the brightest star in the sky, but females was a topic he knew much more about than he himself did. The more he thought about his brother's idea, the more he was starting to like it. "Well I'll get going then, for now."
"Huh? don't you want to wait for mother to return? I thought you wanted to ask her something."
He already turned around and eagerly began to trot towards the exit. "I will ask her another time." He glanced back at him with a smile. "For now I have to follow an advice someone gave me on the way."
Akirunax smirked at him and nodded. By then Cyr was already outside. His brother's words have suddenly filled him with so much confidence and determination that he could not wait to ask her out. "And remember! You are a dragon Cyrvanyx! Be a dragon!"
With his wings already spread he glanced back one more time before he took off. A big smile ran all the way from one side of his muzzle to the other. Those last few words filled him with even more confidence than before.
Those were the exact last words Henry said to him before the battle. It could have been just a coincidence, but he took it as a sign. He knew that Henry was watching over him, telling him to finally win her over.
And with that knowledge in the back of his mind he was more determined than ever to do just that.
