This story takes place in an alternate world called inhabited by anthropomorphic animal species.

"I'll give you three more seconds." She spoke calmly but sternly as she held up a katana against the bear's throat, piercing the skin slightly as blood trickled down the blade.

"Three...

Two..."

"Fuck you, you foxy bitch." The bear grunted, looking exhausted and hopeless.

One swift motion and her blade flung across, causing a fountain of blood to gush upwards as the bear could be heard coughing and gargling heavily before eventually falling backwards in a crimson pool.

The vixen looked down on the corpse, her eyes showing a burning anger, her mouth and nose covered in a black half face balaclava.

"Does anyone else want to test my patience?"

The hostages quivered and cried, huddled together on the cold ground.

One shaky lemur decided to speak up.

"W-we're nobody important, t-they would never b-b-bring that thing anywhere near us."

The fox spun her head to face the teary victim. She began to walk towards him slowly, dragging her sword behind her, scraping it against the cobblestone beneath them. Her leather outfit completely jet black. The lemur sobbed as he looked up at her in terror. She paused, and then raised her blade to threaten him, like a cruel mother about to beat her child. He let out a cry and fell back in fear, scrambling desperately to try and gain his balance again. But his arms were numb and so he just kept on collapsing.

The fox let out a sigh and rolled her eyes, unamused at his weakness. She turned back around before beginning to walk in the other direction.

A hunched, silhouette of a large vulpine-like creature snuck up behind her shoulder, the only visible white being two menacing eyes and a devilishly wide grin.

She paused.

"What is it?"

The creature lurked from out of the shadows, his appearance however remaining the same - only followed by a large tail, oozing some sort of black slime onto the stone.

"Ma'am, we've captured the fortress." Its mouth didn't move an inch when it spoke, and its voice sounded croaky, deep, and it echoed around the area, sounding as if it came from its stomach rather than its throat.

"And the gem, it's with their leader."

"Finally, some good news." The fox pointed her nose up and looked back at the figure.

"Tell Colton I'll be there shortly."

The creature nodded before vanishing back into the shadows.

The cool night air was filled with ashes. Spread out across the fortress were glowing embers, and flames creating thick clouds of smoke. Structures destroyed, stone and dead bodies littered across the area. The land had been sieged. The crane's men had fought gallantly, but ultimately, they were no contest for The Shadow Foxes, as they were known by.

The weary crane foundered to the ground, only to be picked back up again and clouted in the stomach by these ghastly creatures which now roamed the ruins. Leading the attack was Colton, a scarred fox - also wearing a balaclava and dark leather. He stood before his defeated opponent, holding out his arm and observing a mysterious deep blue gem which glistened in the light of the fire.

"You fought so hard, to protect this?" He shook his head saying, looking almost sarcastically unimpressed.

The crane kept his eyes facing downwards as he panted.

"Do not...do not underestimate it."

Colton laughed carelessly. "Oh please, I'm not interested in any of this cliché, holy stuff." He gestured towards one of the shadow fox grunts who then punched the crane once again in the stomach.

The crane shook on the ground, coughing up dark and unusually thick blood. He lay there groaning, gazing upwards. He knew that there was no use pleading, he wasn't going to get any mercy. The grunt recklessly dragged him back onto his feet again, feeling him shiver in his firm grip. Colton stepped over and with a quick motion drew his sword. He pointed the tip of his blade against the beaten crane's chest and let it rest there for a few seconds.

"No..." He muttered as he casually slid his sword back. The crane looked up confused, and for a second, hopeful. However, his sense of hope was crushed when the fox threw a heavy jab into his tummy. He followed it with a flurry of punches, hearing the flesh and bone crack beneath his knuckles and topping it off with a roundhouse kick to the face. The bruised crane was sent flying to the side, slamming into a wall which caused his ribs to snap like twigs. Now choking on his bitter tasting liquid, the crane received a cardiac arrest. He struggled, unable to breathe as his heart continued to thrash around inside him. The helpless crane was in utter pain. More red started to seep from his eye sockets, so much that it had hidden the eyeballs themselves. He crawled around panicking, reaching out his feathered wing only to have it wrenched to the ground by the fox. The two exchanged looks one last time before the fox turned his back and began walking away with his grunts behind him, leaving the crane in an excruciating effort to battle with the last few seconds of his life.

"Where is Acacia?" Colton asked sounding irritated.

"She said she would be here shortly sir." The shadow fox assured.

Colton inhaled before huffing out an annoyed sigh.

"Well tell her to get here now, we have to get moving! If we don't make it in time those fucking mi-"

"I'm right here."

The vixen emerged from the foggy distance as she interrupted.

Colton stopped and turn to face her, giving her a look of disappointment before pacing off again.

The two of them pulled their masks down to their neck.

"Aren't you going to ask me how it went?" Acacia questioned sarcastically as she gave him a teasing look. Colton shook his head, unamused.

"Maybe on the way back." They continued their walk, with their gang of shadow foxes following behind. "Let's hope that this little gift will be enough." Colton handed her the sapphire gemstone, which she fiddled with - her eyes widening.

"This is very pretty. It will sell for a good amount."

The pair exchanged looks again, Colton looking more nervous than annoyed this time.

"What? You don't think this will be enough?" Acacia frowned. "Whoever these mice are, are asking for too much and if they've got a problem with it they can deal with us."
