Tina's Story Chapter 68 The Long and Winding Road- A Gray Muzzle Story
The long and winding road
That leads to your door
Will never disappear
I've seen that road before
It always leads me here
Lead me to your door
The wild and windy night
That the rain washed away
Has left a pool of tears
Crying for the day
Why leave me standing here?
Let me know the way.....
Many times I've been alone
And many times I've cried
Anyway, you've always known
The many ways I've tried
And still, they lead me back
To the long, winding road
You left me standing here
A long, long time ago
Don't leave me standing here
Lead me to your door.
I sat on the edge of the chaise for a long time. Everything I knew, every assumption I had about myself, about the future had been shaken. After a while, I grabbed my shorts and the phone and walked inside, where I sat down at the computer. I Googled the number in my caller ID. A pay phone. Geeze! Do they even have those anymore? I guess so. Where? The Department of Motor Vehicles, in Trenton, New Jersey. I'm trying to go back.....Where did she say she was from? Damn! I'm just not sure. Back east. Up north. Could be New Jersey. Now, what was her name? Cook, Cronin, Charles....Campbell! Nina Campbell! So, I Google Nina Campbell. There are about a million Nina Campells out there. New search. "Nina Campbell"+"New Jersey" That cuts it down a bit. How about I add "+Trenton" ? I sit there, hit "search" and wait.....
There it was. Nina Campbell Granatelli. A Facebook page. I click the link. It was her. That face. It could only be her. For more than an hour, I poured over the pictures. Then, among all the other photos, there's a picture of her with a tiny child. A perfect little Husky toddler with huge ears. Fennec ears. I searched and searched, but there was only the one picture. I stared at it for hours. Dare I think it? Could it be my son?
It was very late when I final threw myself into bed, but sleep eluded me. I lay there, staring at the ceiling, mind racing. Hours later, the Lynx poured herself in.
"Howz the cutest widdle Fennec in the whowle wide word?!"
She stooped to give me a boozey kiss. Standing beside the bed, she wiggled out od a short, tight white dress. Her chest was bare, her nipples erect. I could see that her little pink panties were soaked, as she peeled them off, and tossed them aside.
"Give mamma some love'n!" she declared, dropping her cunt atop my member.
The truth is, sex was the last thing on my mind. Sadly my body and my heart are sometimes at odds with one another. This was one of them. My heart said no, but my stubborn Fennec dick said "Hell, yes!" My dick quickly found a hiding place in her furry folds. It slid easily into place. She was very wet. With another man's cum.
I honestly don't remember much about the sex. It wasn't bad or good; I was just distracted. Afterwards, she lay on my chest, murring and kneading.
"Babe, I gotta take a trip"
"Uh huh. How long?"
I paused.
"I don't know."
"uh huh."
And she fell asleep.
She was still asleep when I threw my worldly possession in a bag. Not that there was much. A few clothes, my art supplies. An Imac Pro, an Ipod, and an Iphone. Alright, I'll admit it; I'm a Mac freak. Most artsy types are. Not so much, really, for a guy on the dark side of middle age. Ernesto was up when I went to leave.
"Leaving Sir?" he inquired
"Yeah."
"When will you return?"
"I don't know."
Our eyes met. In an instant, Ernesto knew I wouldn't be back. I felt like I needed to say something. Ernesto, you see, was more like a wife than the Linx was. I owed him ...something.
"Ernesto? ...thanks."
He smiled.
"Thank you, Sir."
He handed me a bag.
"For your trip. "
I turned toward the door, afraid Ernesto would see me cry. As I opened the back door, I slapped my thigh.
"Emily! Paul!"
My two Border Collies rushed the door. I grabbed my things, and threw them in the back of my Jeep, followed by the two Collies.
By the time I hit the expressway toward the mainland, the Sun was just rising; a giant orange ball on an empty horizon. Paul and Emily had culed up around each other in the back seat, or what passes for one. For someone who has as many miles on them as I do, I'm not exactly domestic. Take the Jeep. Utterly impractical, except for cruising Key West. Punishing ride, noisey as Hell. And almost impossible to hear a thing when the wind catches the soft top. The dogs are kind of an exception. I've had them for a few years now. The Lynx hated them. I suspect they hated her, too. Dogs are such judges of character!. Still, they kept me grounded. It was a way to know love, in a loveless world. I look over my shoulder. Paul had stretched the width of the small seat. Emily was curled up inside his length, her head resting on his shoulder. Every now and then, Paul looked up, as if to see that all was well. He's snuggle back against Emily, and go back to sleep.
Emily had the right idea. There may be many ways to describe the drive from Key West, but unless you're a tourist, the term 'boring' will be part of it. I drove all day long in the noise and rising heat. It was late in the day when I hit Miami. Any sane person would have pulled in, gotten some rest, stretched a bit. Instead, I gave the dogs a quick run, gassed the Jeep, and got a bag of fast food. Forgetting to provision for my friends, Emily and Paul were forced to survive on burgers and bottled water; a sacrifice they gladly made. I continued driving north.
Now, if the Keys highway is boring, US1 is boring, but without the view. Not that it mattered. By the start of the second day, I was on autopilot. Too tired to go on, too wired to stop. So, I forged ahead. The laws of nature overtook me just inside the Georgia state line. I was beginning to see little furry things dance in the road, and worse, they began to talk. Reluctantly, I pulled into a Day's Inn. Stopped at the desk, flashed the Linx' credit card, got a key. Never mentioned my two companions. Pulled out back, and opened up the door. I immediately took the dogs to relieve themselves, which they did, gratefully. I put out some water, and gave them some real dog food, which they accepted more reluctantly. While I undressed, and cleaned up a bit, I saw Paul approach Emily, and try to mate her. He got a swift bite on the neck for his trouble. Guess the trip gets to everyone after a while. He slinked off to a corner, while Emily stayed by the bed. Just before sleep overtook me, I saw Emily rise, and walk over to Paul. She nuzzled his crotch, before she lay down with him, licking his penis from it's sheath. I smiled. A peace offering. In no time, sleep overtook us all.
In the morning, the world was a better place. I showered, shaved, walked the dogs, and hit the lobby. They had one of those breakfast buffet deals, and I gorged; so I could keep driving. I even managed to sneak some bacon and sausage out for my two friends. Within the hour, I was back on the highway. Heading north on I-95, I fired up a joint, pulled up some 'Journey' on the IPod, and put the pedal down. If anything, Paul and Emily seemed happier than before. It almost seemed as if they were smiling. They lay side by side, muzzle to muzzle. Perhaps they were happy to be away, too.
I'd go over the entire trip, but, to be honest, you wouldn't be interested. A flat in Virginia. Traffic in D.C. Gas. Burgers. Tedium. It seemed like forever, but in the morning of the third day, I made Trenton. Reaching over to the Garmin, I punched in 'DMV', and as if by magic, it started giving me orders. Straight ten miles. Merge. Right exit 400 yards.....And there it was. Suddenly, I was terrified. What the Hell had I done? I'd just pissed away everything in my life based on some Goddamn anonymous phone call, that's what. Dropping the Jeep in 'visitor parking', I entered the building to the realization that I had no idea where I might find Nina....or if I'd find her at all. I came up with a plan.
Entering the building, I asked for personel. I figure that this at least it gets me in the place. Once at personel, I ask for Nina Campbell-Granatelli, then I wait to be arrested as a stalker or something. To my surprise, I'm directed to suspensions and restorations, fourth floor. Using the stairs, I'm suddenly gripped by raw fear. What if she just sends me away? What if she calls the cops? Guess it's too late for that now. I'm on the fourth floor.
I find the Suspensions Unit, and walk inside. Walking to the counter, a cute Cocker hybrid offers to help. As I look across the sea of desks, I see her, and I realize that she has seen me. I ask for Nina. Before the Cocker can walk over, Nina rises, as if in a trance. She walks over to me at the counter, where we stand opposite each other, yet neither of us is able to speak.
Tina is at work at her desk, when Felicia approaches.
"Yes, Felicia...."
Tina is absorbed in her work.
"Can i...ask a favor, Mrs. Goldstein?"
Remembering last time, Tina now pays attention.
"What is it, dear?"
Felicia shuffles her cat feet....
"Can Nina have some time? It's really important..."
"Why doesn't she ask me? I'll listen."
"No! Please....I need YOU to tell her. It would ruin everything! PLEASE tell her...."
Seeing the urgency on Felicia's face, Tina walks to the counter, where Nina stands.
'Nina, I was thinking it might be nice to give you an afternoon off. Is this a friend?'
Tina smiles, and turns towards the visitor.
"I'm Gray, Ma'am." He offers, politely
"Tina, Gray. I feel like we've met. "
"Odd; I feel the same way."
"Now, why don't you two, just get along..."
Nina looks up with terror.
"Thank you....but, Mrs. Goldstein, I CAN'T take time off! I need the money....."
"You let Tina take care of that! Now, run along!"
Tina watches as the two walk down the hall. She wonders what this is all about. She notices that Felicia is watching, too.
