#4 of Starfall

Sorry this took so long to get out. I had come across some writers block when I started chapter 4 and never seemed to be able to get back into it. I then moved and have been settling in back in the states now. I made some awesome new friends and we do everything together. So again, I apologize for the extreme delay. Without further ado, here is chapter 4 of Starfall. What'll happen to Remus and Tyler this time? Another 5000 words down now brings the total to 20059 words! I will be posting updates once a month, or if youd like to get the new chapter a few weeks in advance, you can find it on my patreon -> https://www.patreon.com/Novachallenge?alert=2

Tyler-

After the last few weeks of traveling, setting up camp became second nature. As the days grew short, the cold grew stronger. At this point, it felt like my paws were close to freezing off from the cold wind that constantly blew through the forest.

"Hey Ty, can you help me pitch the tent? My fingers are numb and it's hard to work with the wind."

I glance back at Remus. He was stretched out trying to hold the stakes in the ground while the wind worked to blow the tent itself away. I chuckled a bit as I set down the pack of food. I walk over and grab a stake and shove it in the ground positioned so the wind couldn't pull it out. I move to the next and do the same then waited for Remus to do his side.

"Thanks babe, I don't think I could have done that myself." His blue eyes sparkled from the shine of the snow. He walked over to me and stood nearly an inch away from me, "Now let me get the fire going. You want to prep some food for us?" He pecked me on the cheek and went to some nearby trees to search for some dry wood. I watched as he walked around, bending down to grab a piece of wood just to examine it and throw it back probably because it's too wet to use. He ventures farther and farther, every piece he finds he throws back, but I can't help but watch him. His tail swishing so smoothly behind him as he walks, his hips swaying subtly with every step. I felt that familiar tingle in my crotch.

"Ray!" As I shout his name I clamp my paw around my muzzle, but I wasn't successful. Remus glanced over his shoulder and smiled, jogging over to me.

"You okay Ty? Something wrong?" He stared into my eyes with a concerned look, placing a paw on my shoulder. By this time my cheeks felt like they were on fire.

"N-No... nothing's... wrong..." My eyes were darting all over the place and I dropped my muzzle to look at the ground, but Ray cupped my chin in his paw, forcing me to look at him. His eyes closed as he drew in for a kiss. His lips met mine in an explosion and everything around us withered away as all my focus was on that kiss, that tender passionate kiss. His paw on my shoulder slid down my back, resting on my butt. His tongue slipped into my muzzle with skill and ease. I welcomed it with pleasure when a lusty moan escaped my throat.

As quickly as it came, it was gone. Ray had pulled away, bringing his paw up to my cheek to stroke it lightly. "Is that what you wanted?"

I said nothing, instead, shoving my face into his chest, closing my eyes and just letting my senses take control.

Ray's soft chuckle disturbed my trance, causing me to look up at him again. "You... need to take a break. Let's rest here for a few days instead of leaving in the morning, how's that sound?"

I moaned softly, my mind still swimming with ideas of fucking the shit out of Ray right now. "Ray... I don't want to delay our trip. If we can get there faster then let's do it. I wanna get there ASAP." But I also want to have some serious... No! Not right now!

Ray suddenly leans down, whispering oh so gently in my ear, "How about... depending on how good a job you can do... I'll let you go for a little ride tonight before bed?" But before I could utter a single word, he had turned and ran off into the woods. I watched him disappear behind a thicket before I finally exhaled the breath I hadn't realized I was holding. I stood there, my mouth agape as I stared at the thicket Remus disappeared behind.

I finally regained my cognizant mind, shaking my head a few times to clear it of all the very illicit images I saw of myself and Remus humping. I turned around, suddenly eager to get my chores done quickly, but very thorough, but I realized I couldn't do much of my chores being I still had no fire, so I had no choice but to sit and wait for my black furry Prince to return with the firewood.

Several dreadful minutes slowly ticked by. I was beginning to worry about Remus when I heard a soft crunch. My ears perked and my paw was suddenly ready to draw the bow I didn't have. Realizing my mistake, I crouched as low as I could, my white fur keeping me mostly blended into the snow.

Another crunch. My mind was racing with different scenarios. Each one slightly worse than the previous. I was so caught up in my mind games, I didn't realize the crunching had stopped. Suddenly, Remus' voice resonated through the camp, "Tyler?"

I jumped from my crouched position, leaping over the bag I had ducked behind. "Remus! Don't scare me like that! I thought you were another ruffian coming to attack us! I was about to jump you!"

His laugh rang through the stillness, "Ty... first off... why would you worry about jumping me at all? Why wouldn't you just form and ice spear and throw it from afar, and second... who would be out here? We are DAYS away from any civilization... I don't think someone would have followed us this far. This journey is very dangerous and perilous this time of year. I'll be surprised if WE make it."

My ears went flat and my eyes wide before narrowing, "You mean to tell me... there's an almost certainty of us DYING out here?" My finger was shoved into his chest and he was inched back. "Why are we on this route if we will more than likely die here?"

Remus replied flatly, "Because it's the safest place away from all Amani and Humans. The village that is separated from the rest of the continent is neutral in all aspects of life. They love everyone and hate no one... regardless of their race, species, or sexual preference."

"Ray! We should be fighting the Amani Council. We need to petition to have meeting with Astron Veil. He will hear us out!" My paws were balled into fists, my passion forcing my muzzle into a snarl.

Remus closed his eyes, taking a deep breath before placing his paws on my shoulders, drawing me into a kiss. I instantly melted away, my whole body visibly relaxing and my thoughts now a jumbled mess. A quick second later Remus had parted his lips from mine. "Ty, you get so cute when you get worked up. I understand your passion and I know what you're talking about. I've kept you in the dark this journey because I didn't want you... freaking out. I don't plan on staying in Sallowsdale for long. As soon as I was stocked for as long of a journey as I could, I was going to set out alone for the capital. I have a meeting scheduled with Astron in five weeks time. He wants to speak to me about... the problem he had."

With that said, my anger flared up again, "You were going to leave me there alone?! What kind of partner would do that?! I don't know those people. What if the rumors are false and as soon as you leave they jump me? Or worse, what if they jump you as you go to leave town? I'm not letting you go on a two month journey alone!" My ears were again flat, my fists balled, and my heart betrayed.

His paws never left my shoulders, "Ty, I have to go alone. I can't hold enough supply for myself for a whole month. I'm going to have to stop into towns to restock and it would be less suspicious if I were alone. I'm less recognizable than you. There are only two white furred foxes in the entire world, but there are hundreds if not thousands of black wolves. You'll stick out like a sore thumb and I may not be able to protect you from all the danger."

My head spinning, I suddenly become faint. My legs shook and I can hardly see straight. Remus pulled me close to him, hugging me hard enough to choke me. Everything suddenly seemed to get a bit clearer and my legs stopped shaking. I blinked a few times to get the fogginess out of my eyes when I realized I was no longer standing on snow, but a thin sheet of ice. I broke away from Remus and looked around, finding a huge tree made of nothing but ice some thirty feet behind me. The tree was easily twice as large as any other tree near us, a thin sheet of ice stretching from the base out for about forty five feet.

I heard Ray's shaky voice behind me, "Please never do that again! I thought you had somehow killed yourself!" Then suddenly his grip on me became tighter. "Please refrain from using that ice magic shit! If it does what it just did to you... I never want that to happen again!"

I was thoroughly confused, I placed my paws on Ray's sides, hugging him back. "What are you talking about exactly? All I know, you were saying something, then suddenly you grabbed me and hugged me... then I noticed this huge ice tree. You're saying I made that?"

Ray's voice was still shaky, but his grip on me had loosened, "Yes, I finished my explanation, then suddenly you began talking in some weird language. That ice tree behind you started growing. It went through all the phases a tree normally would have... a sprout into a bud into a sapling into a full tree. Then your eyes began to glow a ghostly blue color and the tree doubled in size. After that you stood there, breathing like you'd just ran a marathon."

I glanced into Remus' eyes, tears streaming down his cheeks. "I-I don't know... what happened..?" I could feel my muzzle fall into a sharp frown as I tired to recollect what happened. Nothing came to mind when I suddenly felt weak again. I fell to my knees and instantly Remus was on his knees next to me, leaning forward with one paw wrapped around my neck, another on my back pinning my arm to my side, and his muzzle buried in my neck, soft sobs coming from him every now and again. We sat like this for what seemed like hours, but the sun hadn't moved in the sky. The ice seemed to evaporate, leaving us kneeling in fresh white powder.

I shuffled around the campsite, grabbing a few items before attempting to make a fire. I tried a few times, but every time I saw a light, the wind would blow, extinguishing the fire. "Gah! Why couldn't I be some sort of fire mage?!" I slowed down, taking the lighter and shifting around for a different angle, hoping to block as much wind as possible.

I struck the lighter several times, a small piece of kindling finally catching fire. I softly blew on the infant flame to spread it and feed it. I heard a sudden rustle of leaves from trees behind me alerting me that wind was coming. From the sounds of the leaves, this gust was going to be strong.

I closed my eyes, trying to remember what I had done before to make the ice tree which was now a large pile of snow. It seemed that anything I made slowly turned to snow as if it were slowly being ground into the fine powder it was.

I heard the leaves shaking closer by and knew that if I were gonna make a wall around this fire I would need to do it now. My focus sharpened and I felt a cold puff in front of me. I opened my eyes to see a simple sheet of ice around the small fire. I had failed and just as my shoulders drooped, I felt this cold wind rush past me, whipping around me and into the fire immediately extinguishing the now mediocre sized flames. I let out a small sigh when Remus knelt beside me. "Having troubles?"

I glanced into his eyes before responding "Yeah. The wind keeps blowing it out. I wanted to make an ice wall around it to help prevent that, but I guess my power varies with my mood."

Remus scratched his chin, a faint look of worry in his eyes. "I-I'd wager you get stronger when your scared or angry. Like what happened with adrenaline. Your muscles get crazy strong because you turn off your limiter in your brain." His voice seemed to waver slightly. A clear sign that he wasn't happy I was trying to use my ice magic.

"What? You seem... displeased..?" I asked warily. I didn't want to stir any unwanted emotions given our current situation, but I needed to make sure he wasn't scared of me.

Remus raised his paws in front of him defensively, "N-No! No, no! I'm just... scared.. is all. We don't truly know how your powers work yet and that whole tree thing... really scared me. What if you space out like that again, worse yet if we are surrounded by enemies. And you just... start growing an ice tree? They'll kill you!"

The look of fear was deep in his eyes. I could see the glaze over his crystal blue causing them to become almost white. There was a light shake to his body and I knew nothing I said would make him feel better about it.

"I... I hate that mutt and he's the one that made all this a thing. If it weren't for him intruding-"

"I would still be injured right now." I'm not sure where it came from, but I felt compelled to defend my abilities. "Ray, if he hadn't told me I had healing powers, I would still be cut up and not able to move near as much."

"Yeah, but-" he tried interrupting, but I just continued talking.

"We wouldn't be anywhere near where we are now if I wasn't healed. He helped us move faster. I'm not saying he's a good guy, but he gave me a way to help us. And if I can get this magic figured out, I can help us get to Astron and tell him what we know. I'll keep my powers hidden, but we might need them. For instance, I may be able to make us shelter."

I could see Remus relaxing ever so slightly. I knew he understood, but he still didn't like it. "Fine. See what you can do to build up your strength. I'll judge where you are by the time we get to Sallowsdale. If I think you will make the journey easier and more manageable, then you can come. If not, I want you to promise me you will stay there."

"That's like two weeks! How am I supposed to-" I was cut off by a black furred finger pressed against my lips.

"Figure out your ice put for the fire, then maybe an igloo or something. If you can do that and solidly provide weapons, that's all I need."

I frowned at him. "Hastam Glacies." I spoke the words just as I had before, holding out my paw for the ice spear to sting into it, but nothing came. Remus had a temporary fearful expression on his face, but once he realized nothing happened, he frowned back.

"Looks more like a step backwards than a point proven." He said matter-of-factly. "Look, I love you and I will always be here for you. I just don't like this one bit. I'm scared for you."

I fought back a snarky comment, deciding to instead go back to silently trying to make my ice pit around the fire. I heard a soft sigh and the snow crunching as Remus walked away almost silently. Only after he was gone, did I feel the true cold of loneliness. I bit my lower lip fighting the biting cold wind, a small fire expanding in my chest as my anger boiled.

I cursed silently and my paws began to freeze. A thin layer of ice encased my paws as my anger quickly died, replaced by sudden fear as my dream flashed back into my mind. I let out a curt scream as I rolled back, knocking my head against a tree a few feet behind me. I glanced up, instinctively sitting up, the ice inching slowly up my arms. I heard a voice yell my name a short distance away. I knew it was Remus and I couldn't let him see that he was right. I cursed again and slammed my paws against the tree trunk causing the ice to shatter, not knowing if it would just start growing back. To my relief, it didn't. I sighed and fell to my bottom at the base of the tree just as Remus got to me. A panicked look on his face.

"What's wrong?! What happened?!" Remus had rounded the corner, his short sword in paw and was now staring at me with a bewildered look.

"I thought I heard something." I mentally kicked myself as I lied. "Just... scared me was all. Probably just the wind whistling."

Remus didn't seem to buy my lie. He stood, staring at me with a cold glare. "I'm not buying it. What happened?" he said sternly.

I flinched slightly at the force of his voice before taking a deep breath and continuing. "I... okay fine. I didn't hear anything. I went back to trying to make my little fire pit thing when I sort of cursed at myself. Ice started covering my paws and I was scared I was gonna freeze... like in my dream." I immediately froze in place, staring at Remus.

His expression turned to shock, then quickly to rage. "What dream? What do you mean frozen?!" His paws were balled into fists as his muzzle frowned and his eyes narrowed.

I gulped loudly as I watched him seethe with anger. It wasn't his fault though. I had never told him about my dream because I didn't want to scare him. I wanted to handle it all on my own, but now the truth was loose and hung in the air, now so thick you could almost cut it with a knife. We told each other everything. Every bad dream we had, we shared and we both looked for ways to make things better, but I kept a secret from him. I wanted to protect him for worry.

"I-I... had a dre... nightmare more appropriately. When I passed out after getting wounded. I dreamed I was falling through darkness when I was caught by you. You hugged me, but your arms lost all their fur and your paws became Human hands and the hands started choking me. I died and looking over my body, it started being encased in ice... and when it enveloped me, my body shattered with the ice."

The following silence was deafening, the only thing audible was my heartbeat in my ear. "Look, I'm sorry Ray! I'm sorry I never told you and I should have! But I was so scared and... I wanted to protect you! And the baby!"

"WHAT ABOUT THE DAMNED BABY?!" Remus yelled, his voice slightly cracking. Tears flowed down his cheeks again, this time with rage. "You're telling me... that you are BLAMING me for you not telling me? I thought we never hid things Tyler! I thought we could trust each other!" His words bit the air, through my ears, and directly into my heart where each syllable felt like a mini bomb prepared to detonate.

"I..." I began, my voice cracking with tears. "I just..." I broke down, tears flowing down my cheeks as I sat in the snow sobbing. I didn't dare open my eyes and incur Remus' wrath once again. My heart couldn't take another disappointed scowl. "I JUST WANTED TO PROTECT YOU!" I sobbed as I buried my face into my paws, I didn't feel like sitting up anymore, so I shifted my weight to lay on my side in the snow when warm arms scooped me from the fall. I suddenly felt warm as Remus' arm encircled me.

I sobbed until I had no tears left. I glanced up with watery eyes to see Remus' blue eyes filling me with warmth. "You okay now Ty?" he said, his voice soft.

I wiped a tear from my eye, "You're-You're not mad at me?" I blinked, my red eyes slowly producing warm tears again.

Remus' face scrunched into a soft frown. "I won't lie and say I'm not upset... and I was mad, but I can't be mad at why you did it. I didn't think about it from your point until you started crying. You bared this yourself to protect me. And I'm supposed to be the one protecting you. I promised I would and I won't break that promise. Not for the world." Remus' lips locked with mine, a soft sob flowing into the kiss as I embraced him back.

"I'm sorry," I said. "I don't know what's gotten into me recently. I've been kind of... weak, both mentally and physically, since the accident. I feel like I let you down and that I need to make it up to you somehow."

"You don't need to make anything up to me Ty. You did what you did for me and I would have done the same for you. I overreacted and I was kind of hypocritical. I need you to trust me, because I haven't lost trust in you." His paw softly caressed my cheek as I cooed softly, tired enough to pass out on the spot, but I couldn't.

I flicked my eyes open and sat up. "A good crying session out of the way and now I can focus on this." I said as I hoisted myself up and walked back over to the fire. "I need to ensure you will let me come with you, so I need to master this as fast as I can."

I heard a soft sigh as Remus stood himself, kissing my on the head before calmly walking back over to wherever he was before.

I thought I heard something?! I thought as I returned to my ice pit. Why not just tell him a unicorn strode by. I mentally cursed myself and glanced off to my right when I felt another cold gust hit my paws again. I glanced down fully expecting the same results, but to my surprise, I found a neat wall encircling the bundle of wood. I checked my paws and didn't find a hint of ice anywhere on them.

Again, I had managed to make something out of ice without meaning to, but this time I at least made something I wanted.

A few days passed. Remus had kept himself busy in the tent doing something. He wouldn't tell me what, nor would he let me in. And when I was finally able to go in, it was just him and the sleeping bags in the tent. He often pretended he wasn't doing anything dodged all of my questions when I had asked what he was up to. I resulted to sitting outside and focusing on how I felt when I made the spear the first time.

I breathed the cold air into my lungs, the frigid temperature burning my nostrils and throat as it passed, warming by my body heat on the way down. I breathed again, my eyes closed and my mind only focusing on my breathing. I suddenly thrust my eyes open as strange words flooded my mind. I couldn't quite read them, but I kind of just understood what they meant. I rolled over the words Hastam Glacies again, picturing them in my mind. The words seemed familiar, but I somehow knew that they meant "Ice Spear." I glanced around before closing my eyes again, returning on focusing on my breathing when the words appeared again. Murum Glacies. I instantly knew the second word mean "Ice," but I somehow understood that this new word meant "Wall" I opened my eyes slowly, keeping those words in mind.

"Murum Glacies!" I had shouted without meaning to. I heard a rustle come from the tent behind me when a very thin wall of ice propelled from a spot twenty feet in front of me about five feet long.

"Holy hell!" I heard from behind me, instantly knowing it was Remus. "You've... learned how to do it?"

I glanced over my shoulder at him, a soft but disappointed look on my face, but keeping my eyes on the ground. "Yeah, I figured out how to use it, but two things. Apparently I have to say what I want in Latin or it backfires on me. Also, I'm not very strong. I can only tell because I have this feeling that the wall is supposed to be at least quadruple in length, and loads thicker."

I shifted my eyes from the snow to him and saw a look of surprise, but also excitement. Almost like he was glad I learned how to use it. "But you made this! You just need to practice it a bit!"

I sighed heavily, "It also took me about thirty minutes to get here. I had to focus on what I wanted for so long that the word just finally popped into my head. I couldn't read it, but I could somehow understand it. As if reading the letters made the English sounding name."

Remus beamed at me, rushing forward to embrace me again. I noticed his face change to a slightly pained expression just before he got to me. "Like I said before, just promise me you will be careful." I stroked the back of his head from behind me and shifted my gaze back to the ice wall. I already noticed the top of the wall falling away into powdery snow piling at its base. I let out a small sigh before turning in Remus' hold to embrace him.

"Like I had said myself, I promise. Also, can I come back in the tent now? I'm freezing and I want to warm up a bit. What are you even doing in there?" I noticed only too late that his shirt was missing and all of his armor was off. "And where's your shirt? And your leather armor?"

He broke the embrace, moving back to look at me. "I... left it in the tent. It's gotten kinda dirty, and I wanted to get out of it. I felt really gross." He scratched the back of his neck absently as I knew he did when he lied. He gave me a sheepish grin and turn on his heel and returned to the tent, only to stick his head back out and say, "Oh... and no, you... can't yet... YET! Not much longer!" and dipped his head back inside.

I huffed to myself and returned to my breathing. I felt a twinge in my crotch again as I closed my eyes, the first image popping up being of Remus shirtless. His sheen fur glistening in the sun as he gave me a cocky smirk, a paw firmly glued to his own crotch showing off his impressive bulge.

My tongue lolled out of the side of my muzzle just seeing this. His black fur vibrated with the wind and suddenly his pants were gone, his paw was no longer clutching his crotch, and his smirk had also faded, leaving behind a soft smile. He was now standing starker naked in front of me just softly smiling at me, both paws by his sides and a firm posture. I felt my pant become taut as I drank this image in, my imagination becoming so vivid I couldn't tell this wasn't the real Remus.

I blinked, the image coming back just as clear. I blinked again, this time, Remus now wore a puzzled expression. "Is everything okay?" The naked Remus asked seeming to take a step forward, "You look... weird." He took another step forward, but I took a step back.

"Who... what is going on? Are..?" I glanced around, the campsite seemed to be exactly as it was. I glanced back at the naked Remus walking towards me. I began to back up when my back hit the now powder wall I had created moments ago. Remus picked up his pace and made it to me, my heart beating faster and faster as his paw touched me, his skin and fur ice cold.

"Shhh," Remus cooed as he softly blew on my face. "Shhh and let me take care of you." My vision began to fade as I saw his mouth crinkle with a sinister sneer, his black fur changing to red with striped of a glowing sickly green.

My eyes fell shut and I could see nothing but black. I couldn't open my eyes, but I was still very much conscious. Remus' voice echoed in my ear again. "How'd you like that foxy? Not the only one with a bit of magic are you?" He huffed a sick chuckle before continuing. "Now that I have what I need. You are gonna die. And don't bother trying to escape, you can't move a muscle in your cold body."

Remus blew on him again, his icy breath spreading over his whole body, enveloping him in a whirl of cold. He couldn't feel anything.
