Part XIII: Homecoming
When I thought about bringing Serana home, I didn't imagine an abandoned boat on the shoreline. It was pretty close to what was now a Thalmor keep, but they didn't pay us much mind.
Turned out there was a castle not far from the coast. I didn't even see it until we were right up on the shore. The place was guarded by some powerful magick. I wanted to leave Khash behind but she wouldn't hear it.
It didn't help Serana started talking like we might never see each other again. Oddly enough I kinda missed her already. She was a vampire, but she was a pretty cool person. And she was in trouble; I could tell. When we got off the boat, I knew this place was bad news. It was old, very old. I had never heard of this place or a group of vampires camped right on top Skyrim. Granted I also wasn't a local, but no rumor, no threats, no signs, nothing.
I had never been inside a vampire home before. It wasn't the kind of place I wanted to visit again. It was a house of nightmares. Dismembered bodies placed on plates, goblets filled with what I knew wasn't wine, and vampires everywhere.
The one in charge though, Harkon, Serana's father, he was a real piece of work. Separated from what I assumed was his only child for a time that would broken any parent and he wasn't even happy to see her. I saw it, Serana saw it, and even the damn hellhounds licking their cold lips for argonian meat saw it.
I don't remember my family by I like to believe they weren't this fucked up.
She barely held back her rage at her father's lack of compassion, out of fear, or just to save face I couldn't tell. I hated that this was what I was leaving her to. But I was surrounded by vampires and Khash was waiting outside. I couldn't die here and leave her to those bastards.
Harkon offered me his blood in return for bringing Serana back to him. I would become a vampire, but just any vampire. I would surpass the garden variety and possess power that no one had ever seen. It was tempting to take it. All that power. I wouldn't have anything to fear. I could do what I want, go where I want. No one would stand against me.
The thought of taking power from this vile creature. This...thing that dared to call itself a father. I wouldn't accept a glass of water if I was on fire from him.
I undstood why Isran hated vampires now.
I said, "Shove your gift up your ass and spin on it. I don't anything from you."
I almost expected a fight to break out but Harkon simply banished me from his castle. Khash wondered where Serana was, but I brushed her off. I just wanted to get as far away from the castle as possible.
We needed to get back to Isran, now. This wasn't my fight but I wasn't abandoning Serana to them.
