Pokemon - To Catch Them All
#1 of Pokemon - To Catch Them All
Leo a new trainer from Viridian City heads out on his journey to catch every Pokemon and complete his Pokedex, will he achieve his dream?
My name is Leo, I was born and raised in Kanto, in Viridian City, I had only just turned 10 and was at the age to begin my journey around the world.
Even though I was supposed to be getting a starter Pokemon from Professor Oak in Pallet Town and I was in no rush. However, my mother was not going to let me sleep all day. She marched up the stairs and opened my door, seeing my laying in bed as the sun had long since risen and the Pidgey's chirped outside in the trees.
"Leo, if you don't get up you'll miss your chance to get your starter Pokemon!" She shouted, trying her best to wake me up. I groaned in annoyance at my sleep being interrupted, not realising that today was the day I could go on a journey. I covered my eyes with the blanket and tried my best to ignore the sun and noise. My mum sighed before smiling to herself.
"Okay, then I'll just get our friend to wake you up and you know their not as patient as me..." I gulped knowing exactly who she was talking about and before I could even jump out of bed I heard her release her Pokemon to wake me up. "Come out Pikachu!" At that I felt a lump land on my bed and felt the Thunderbolt through my body, immediately shooting out of bed.
Pikachu jumped with joy at seeing me finally out of bed as my mum grabbed my clothes and a small backpack of everything I needed for my journey. "Thanks Pikachu" mum said petting Pikachu who jumped into her arms, enjoying the attention he was being given for attacking his own trainers son. Trying to remove the sleep from my eyes, I headed to the bathroom to quickly brush my teeth and look presentable.
Exiting the bathroom no less than two minutes later, I hurried to eat the pancakes mum had prepared as she fed Pikachu who gulped his food down just as quick. "So have you decided on what Pokemon you'll choose as your partner?" Mum asked me curious, which made me pause in thought.
In all honesty, I had tried thinking but just couldn't decide, Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle. All would make a great starter Pokemon, but which would I want I just didn't know.
I sighed, looking down, "I just can't decide, they're all wonderful, but, I just don't know... Is that bad?" I asked concerned, however, my mother laughed at the question. "Of course not, Leo, sometimes you yourself form a connection just from seeing them in person, one just might connect with you, just like Pikachu here!" Mum smiled as Pikachu leaped on the table, cheeks sparking with electricity.
I smiled hoping that would be the case. "Anyway since between Pallet Town and Viridian City, there are some wild Pokemon, as such, it would be safer if you take Pikachu with you until you get your starter Pokemon." I agreed even though Route 1 may be small, you could never be too sure if there were dangerous Pokemon or people out there.
"Oh and do you have your smartphone, that way you can stay in touch with me and any friends you might meet along your journey." My mum asked, to which I rushed back upstairs grabbing my red smartphone. I quickly showed my mum my smartphone and placed it comfortably in my pockets before grabbing my bag and placing it over my back. Pikachu hopped on my shoulder comfortably, before I turned to face my mum.
I could tell she was trying to avoid looking sad but I tried to calm her down, "don't worry mum, I'll be safe and Pikachu will help me out. Right Pikachu?" Pikachu placed his hand in the air, gesturing he would protect me reassuring my mother. "I know, just call regularly, I'd also like to meet your Pokemon every now and then." I smiled and agreed before leaving the home. Turning around I waved to my mum and headed through the large and bustling city.
I knew quite a few people since living here for many years, most people there knew I was heading out on my journey and so they all wished me luck on my journey. I smiled and waved before reaching Route 1.
The route was diverse with life, I could see in the trees above me Pidgey and Rattata were skulking around the trees as well, none approached me seeing that Pikachu was keeping an eye them. As I walked I couldn't help but think about the starter Pokemon once again. 'Charmander is a Fire type, but evolves into a Charizard and gains a Flying type. Bulbasaur was a Grass and Poison Type and evolved into Venusaur. Meanwhile there was the Water type Squirtle, which evolved into Blastoise. Each one of them would make a great partner.'
Soon enough we reached Pallet Town and I could straight away see the laboratory looming above the small town and rushed forward quickly marching up the steps to the laboratory before opening the door, calling out to see if anybody was here." Excuse me, Professor Oak, I'm here for my Pokemon!" I announced but nobody came forward.
I assumed he was outside and caring for the Pokemon and so walked inside, looking around at the advanced laboratory, eventually someone came forward, he introduced himself as Tracey, "I'm the Professor's assistant, I help the Professor look after the multitude of Pokemon which trainers catch and send here when they're travelling around the regions. It also happens that I'm a Pokemon watcher!" I obviously looked confused, "a Pokemon watcher?" I asked curiously.
"Yes, a Pokemon watcher observes Pokemon in their natural habitat but also I observe the bond between Pokemon and trainer and offer advice to them when they need it." I slightly understood what that meant and spoke, "I see and that must be why your the Professor's assistant right?" Tracey nodded his head and gestured for me to follow him.
We headed outside and I saw how vast the laboratory was, "this here is where all the trainers who head out on their journey keep their Pokemon." I looked around seeing a large amount of Pokemon doing their things. Not only that I saw that they're were different habitats as well, from an open plains, to forests, in the background I could even see what looked like a mountainous area, with a large lake or river passing through.
"As I'm sure your aware, the laboratory has many different habitats for many different Pokemon, after all we want every single Pokemon to live in comfort while they stay here." I nodded my head understanding everything he was saying. While Tracey was explaining more about the laboratory, a Bulbasaur approached us, "Ah, this is Ash's Bulbasaur, he's a trainer busy exploring the world on his own journey, perhaps you might meet him one day!" Tracey explained before kneeling down to Bulbasaur.
"Bulbasaur this here is the new trainer we were telling you about." Bulbasaur nodded his head an extended a vine towards me, almost as if he was expecting a handshake. "Nice to meet you Bulbasaur, my name is Leo" at that I gently grabbed Bulbasaur's vine in a sort of handshake. While that introduction was taking place, Professor Oak had appeared and jogged over to us rushing in apparent exhaustion. "Professor is something the matter?" Tracey asked concerned at the Professor's condition however, the Professor shook his concerns off.
"No nothing is wrong, I'm just glad you found the new trainer" Professor Oak turned to face me, "apologies for not being here when you arrived, as I'm sure your aware, with all the Pokemon here, there's lots to do." I smiled, "I understand Professor, there's no need for any apologies." Professor Oak seemed mildly impressed with my patience for such a young age and gestured for me to enter the laboratory once again.
"Well, I think you've waited long enough, how about we go and see what Pokemon will be your partner then?" I smiled and agreed before following Professor Oak inside. He led me upstairs where I could see three Pokeballs, just waiting to be opened. "As I'm sure your already aware, these three are the starter Pokemon a trainer can choose from in the Kanto region, of course they're different in other regions as well." At that he grabbed the three Pokeballs and introduced me to the Pokemon.
"Firstly, we have Bulbasaur" as he released the Bulbasaur, who cheered in excitement, "Bulbasaur is a Grass and Poison Type Pokemon. "Next we have" as he released Charmander, "Charmander a Fire Type Pokemon." Charmander burst forth running around excitedly. "Finally, we have Squirtle," when Squirtle was released, he seemed quite shy in comparison to the starters I had already seen.
"Before you choose your starter Pokemon, do you have a smartphone?" Professor Oak asked me and I nodded grabbing mine from my pocket. "Excellent, I have a Rotom here, who can enter your smartphone and help you on your journey. Rotom also acts as a Pokedex as well for you, why not give it a try?" At that the Rotom grinned and entered my smart phone and I gestured towards Bulbasaur, "Bulbasaur a Grass and Poison Type, known as the Seed Pokemon. There is a plant seed that grows on this Pokemon's back from the moment this Pokemon is born."
At that I aimed at Charmander, "Charmander a Fire Type, known as the Lizard Pokemon, It has a preference for hot things. When it rains steam is said to pour out from it's tail." Finally there was Squirtle, "Squirtle, a Water Type, the Tiny Turtle Pokemon, when it retracts it's long neck into it's shell, it squirts out water with vigorous force."
"Wow, this Rotom Phone will definitely come in handy, thank you Professor and you as well Rotom." At that the Professor spoke once again, "so have you decided on which Pokemon you'll be choosing as your starter?" I smiled after observing them, I felt a kinship with one of them, "yes I've chosen Squirtle!" Squirtle seemed surprised at that before nervously shuffling over to me, with a slight smile on his face. At that the Professor gave me Squirtle's Pokeball and some extra Pokeballs for my journey.
Automatically the Pokedex was updated with one new Pokemon being registered, "Squirtle has been registered to the Pokedex" I was surprised when I saw the new phone screen showing Squirtle and many other blank Pokeballs and asked Professor Oak what this all meant. "Squirtle was just registered to your Pokedex that shows your caught Pokedex, but you can use this to see other Pokemon you've seen."
Thanking the Professor, just as I was about to leave the Professor had a question for me, "Leo, what is your dream?" He asked me with a smile and I answered, "at the moment I'm not too sure, but I know I'd like to catch some Pokemon that's for sure!" Professor Oak smiled and wished me luck. As I left I carried Squirtle in my hands as we walked out of Pallet Town and down Route 1 once again.
"So, Squirtle, I hope we'll make the best of friends!" Squirtle was still quite shy, but seemed to agree with some enthusiasm. "Oh and Squirtle I'd like you to meet Pikachu, he's not actually my Pokemon, he belongs to my mum." At that the two Pokemon began speaking to one another getting to know each other.
Before returning to Viridian City I wanted to see what Pokemon were around to catch. Heading through the grass and looking everywhere I soon spotted my first wild Pokemon, it was a Pidgey, preening itself in the tree above us, Squritle immediately jumped down and prepared for battle, while I asked Rotom, "Rotom what moves does Squirtle know?" Rotom quickly answered, "Squirtle knows the moves, Tackle, Withdraw and Water Gun" I was pretty impressed with those moves and began my first battle.
"Squirtle use Water Gun!" Squirtle quickly fired a Water gun which scored a direct hit on Pidgey, who shook it's feathers and looked rather perturbed at being struck. The Pidgey flew down and began dragging it's wings into the ground spraying sand into Squirtle. "Into your shell Squirtle" Since Squirtle retreated into his shell, the sand seemed to have no effect. Quick Squirtle now use Tackle!" At that Squirtle sprang out of his shell and bashed into Pidgey who wasn't expecting it and landed on the ground. Quickly, I grabbed a Pokeball and threw it at Pidgey.
One, shake, two, three and the Pidgey was caught. Automatically Rotom updated me on the new catch, "Pidgey has been registered to your Pokedex, Pidgey the Tiny Bird Pokemon a Normal and Flying type, very docile. If attacked, it will often kick up sand to defend itself rather than attack." I cheered with Squirtle who jumped into my hands happily, we cheered and danced before I grabbed Pidgey's Pokeball and released it, "it's nice to meet you Pidgey, my name is Leo, this is Pikachu and my starter Squirtle, I hope we become good friends. Pidgey flapped his wings happily and joined the other Pokemon on his new perch stand which was my unoccupied shoulder.
I grabbed my Rotom Phone, "Rotom what Pokemon live here?" At that Rotom displayed a list of Pokemon that inhabited the area, Pidgey was one of them, but I'd already caught that Pokemon, Rattata, was the next one I decided to try and catch. I looked around carefully, but struggled to find one, but my new capture Pidgey decided he would help out, he flew around the route and searched for a Rattata. Eventually he returned to me and guided me to a group of Rattata that were skulking around.
"Alright Squirtle ready for another battle," Squirtle nodded and jumped down alerting the Rattata many of whom scattered, but one remained, "looks like we'll catch that one then." Squirtle agreed and Rattata immediately darted toward Squirtle using Tackle, "use Water Gun" I announced and Rattata was pushed back by Water Gun before shaking the excess water off and using Tackle once again. " You use Tackle as well." The two clashed and backed off, but the damage seemed to have been done, as Rattata already seemed exhausted, I threw a Pokeball which hit the Rattata.
One shake, two, three and Rattata was caught. Once again Rotom alerted me to the new entry, "Rattata was registered to your Pokedex, Rattata the Mouse Pokemon, a Normal Type, will chew on anything with it's fangs, if you see one, you can be certain that 40 more live in the area."
I cheered grabbing Rattata's Pokeball and opened it, introducing myself, happily, "that makes 3 registered Pokemon I've caught, this is so exciting." All my Pokemon seemed to agree cheering as well, as Rattata scampered around beneath me, he didn't seem upset that he wasn't able to join the others up on me. As I checked the Rotom phone I saw that there were really only two more Pokemon which I could find around here, that being Bellsprout and Oddish, both being Grass Types.
For the next couple of minutes, I searched high and low around the grass and trees, Pidgey searched from the sky as well, he was definitely a great catch, for helping me find Pokemon from the sky. Eventually Pidgey called out to me, and flew in circles indicating he had found something of interest and as such me and my Pokemon all rushed to the location. I wasn't disappointed seeing that Pidgey had managed to find an Oddish.
Squirtle at first wanted to battle, but I remembered that Grass Types were strong against Water Types, but Flying Types were good against Grass Types. "I know you'd like to battle Squirtle, but Pidgey would be safer for you." Squirtle seemed disappointed but understood my reasoning. "Rotom what moves does Pidgey know, "Pidgey knows, Sand Attack. Gust and Tackle." I thanked Rotom and nodded a Pidgey who returned the nod to me.
Oddish had already noticed the Flying Type and prepared itself, Oddish started by absorbing sunlight and seemed to increase in size, using the move Growth, which was bad for me, "quick Pidgey, before it can attack, use Gust!" Pidgey blew a Gust towards Oddish who tried to withstand the wind, but was unable to an collapsed to the ground, since Flying was super effective against Grass, I guess that made all the difference.
I grabbed a Pokeball and threw it, one shake, two and suddenly, Oddish broke out, startling Pidgey, "it's alright Pidgey, we just need to weaken it a little more." At that Pidgey nodded and prepared itself, "use Tackle!" As Pidgey headed towards Oddish, he immediately darted out off the Oddish whish suddenly used Acid, a unexpected move. Thankfully Pidgey still hit Oddish and this time when I threw a Pokeball the Oddish was captured. "Oddish was registered to your Pokedex, the weed Pokemon, a Grass and Poison Type. If exposed to moonlight, it starts to move. It roams far and wide at night to scatter its seeds."
"Perfect another capture, I had decided for the moment, that I'd return Rattata and Oddish to the Pokeballs and keep Squirtle and Pidgey out, for Pidgey's flight. I began searching again for a Bellsprout and found one almost dancing through the grass, once again I knew the safe method would be battling with Pidgey as type advantages would be safer for Pidgey.
Upon noticing the Pidgey in the sky above it, Bellsprout used Vine Whip and attempted to knock the Pidgey down to the ground, "Pidgey dodge and use Gust!" At that Pidgey swerved round the Vine Whip and blew Bellsprout away. "Now use Tackle," while Bellsprout was recovering from the Gust, Pidgey quickly scored a direct hit against Bellsprout and knocked it down to the ground. Seeing the opportunity, I threw a Pokeball and after a couple of shakes caught the Bellsprout." Rotom updated the Pokedex automatically, "Bellsprout has been registered to your Pokedex, Bellsprout the Flower Pokemon, a Grass and Poison Type. Bellsprout prefers hot and humid places. It ensnares tiny bugs with its vines and devours them."
After catching Bellsprout I looked at my caught Pokedex and showed Squirtle and Pidgey how many Pokemon we had caught, we've already got 5 Pokemon registered. Pidgey and Squirtle cheered and I decided to head back to Viridian City, to show my mum the Pokemon I had caught but first to heal all my Pokemon as well.
Entering the Pokemon centre, I approached Nurse Joy, "Nurse Joy, could you please heal my Pokemon?" I returned my Pokemon to their Pokeballs and handed them over to Nurse Joy who quickly healed them and returned them to me good as new.
I released Squirtle and headed back home, excited to show my mum the Pokemon I had caught, upon opening the door, Pikachu jumped inside and ran towards my mum who was in the living room. "Your back Leo and look at that Squirtle is your starter Pokemon, doesn't he look adorable!" Squirtle ducked in his shell slightly embarrassed as I explained his personality, "Squirtle's quite shy, it's why I chose him." I smiled as he came out and greeted my mother. "Well the two of you look like you'll make a great team.
"That's not all, I'd like you to meet the Pokemon I caught" at that I released Pidgey, Rattata, Oddish and Bellsprout, who greeted my mother with enthusiasm. "Wow, you've only been gone a few hours and you've already caught so many Pokemon. They look rather happy with you as well." The Pokemon agreed before all of them pounced on me happily trying to give me as much attention as they could, while my mum smiled happy that her son had made so many new Pokemon friends. She knew she wouldn't be worried for her son's safety anymore.
At that I stayed home for the remainder of the day and bonded with the new catches Oddish and Bellsprout given all the Pokemon some Pokemon food and decided to head to bed and would continue my journey tomorrow morning.
