Sisu Lays and Egg - Chapter 5
#5 of Sisu Lays and Egg
The peace meeting was over, but Jagan couldn't get over his frustration with Pengu for making him support Raya in preparing for the Meeting while Pengu got to mingle with the crowd.
"It's your job to be all diplomatic and all that," Jagan fumed, "So why'd I get stuck with Namaari doing all your preparations while you got to chill with the guests?"
"I was being diplomatic," Pengu informed him, "while you were helping out Namaari, I was getting familiar with the people from the other lands. What could be more diplomatic than that?"
"You just wanted to hang out at the snack table," Jagan grumbled.
"That klepon was pretty good," Pengu reflected contentedly.
Jagan was about to give an angry reply when Sisu suddenly limped by with a baby sling strapped to herself, two bulges inside.
"Sisu, you okay?" Pengu asked.
"I am sore, I am very sore." Sisu said.
"You look like you've been stuck doing the splits for a few hours," Jagan observed.
"Yeah, I've been doing splits, lets go with that- Ooh!" Sisu sudden;y gasped pulling in her leg to her body. "If only it was just my legs that hurt." She noticed her brothers watching her. Awkward. She kinda didn't want them to know what other than her legs could possibly hurt. That wasn't something one wanted to share around one's brothers, Ugh!
Pengu noticed the sling Sisu was carrying. "Where are you going?" He asked curiously.
"I'm off to see Namaari," Sisu announced, "Sounds cool right? Me and Namaari go way back."
"Namaari?" Jagan mumbled, "Why'd you go see her? She's all angry and serious, and no fun to be around.
"Well, she's probably on her way back to Fang," Pengu informed her, "You might be able to catch her if you hurry."
"Fang, got it," Sisu answered, ready to leave the room before any more uncomfortable questions could be asked.
But just as Sisu was about to exit the door, Pranee came in. Sisu instinctively grabbed her sling protectively, holding it close to her body so Pranee wouldn't bump it. No sooner did she do this, then Pranee noticed the load strung over her shoulder.
"What's that?" She asked.
Then Amba entered.
"Is that your... Egg?"
And once again they were squealing.
"Not just one egg, but two!" Pranee declared, "It's got to be your personal record!"
"And look at the size of that thing!" Amba threw in her enthusiasm, "That must have taken a lot of effort."
Her brothers also looked at her, just as proud. Their understanding of all the details involved in laying an egg were obviously quite superficial. Though her sisters weren't acting like their understanding of it was much deeper.
"Ha, ha, yes, a lot of effort" said Sisu, trying to pass off the subject. Apparently all attempts at keeping the egg situation quiet were futile with her siblings. "Now, I'm going to see Namaari."
With that, Sisu dodged past her siblings and leapt out the door on a platform of rain.
Of course her brothers knew more about it all then they were letting on. But they really didn't want to think of their sister that way, ugh! That's what crushes were for. (_Bet Pengu enjoyed his time with that dragon chick at the snack table,_Jagan thought bitterly.) Obviously neither really truly understood the pure "ouch" that went into laying an egg, how could they, it was just beyond any experience they'd ever know. For them, it was just a neat activity lady dragons did.
As Sisu rose into the wet sky, she held the eggs close to make sure the jostling of her body wouldn't cause them harm. They really were beautiful and precious eggs.
Where did that come from? At least her siblings hadn't heard that, they'd never give her the end of it.
Sisu looked back with a huff, noticing Jagan and giving Pengu another hard glare. Apparently, he wasn't about to give up his frustration at his older brother so easily.
But hey, Sisu thought, _at least you all were doing something better than I was doing._Hardly seemed a fair accusation given that she'd gotten to save the world while they were all stone, but whatever destiny the Universe had had for her in the past, destiny was sure determined to make her the Universe's laughingstock now. Maybe the Universe found it so amusing because of her epic past. Maybe this was the Universe's way of saying "Thought you were so cool, did you?" If only her epic past-self had known... Sure made her pity her poor epic past self, so naïve to how embarrassing a future she was in for. She'd never be able to read the scrolls of the legend of Raya and the Last Dragon the same way again, knowing what that character Sisu was in for after the last words had ended.
But Sisu supposed nobody wanted to end a scroll with "And then Sisu went on to lay a bunch of eggs, and it hurt a lot and it was totally embarrassing." Must be much easier to put "And they lived happily ever after", and hope nobody realizes that that happily ever after inevitably gets interrupted by embarrassing and painful egg laying every once in a while.
Perhaps Namaari would be able to help her make sense of it all. They were Best Friends Forever after all.
As Sisu made her way toward Fang, she couldn't help but feel the admiration for the eggs in her pouch rising. She'd laid them, they were her babies, her beautiful babies.
Stop it, Sisu told herself, they're just eggs, nothing more, they mean nothing.
But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't stop herself from feeling that motherly pride toward her eggs, like they were special, that they meant something beautiful.
