Pokemon - To Catch Them All - Petalburg City
#35 of Pokemon - To Catch Them All
Leo explores Petalburg Woods and catches some new Pokemon
Upon reaching Petalburg City I had my Pokemon healed up and brought some Pokeballs for the future but it the time I had I had been learning about my Pokemon's personalities and their likes and dislikes too. First was Mudkip and currently he was a very shy and nervous Pokemon all because of what his former trainer had done. Slowly but surely his confidence was increasing and he was growing much stronger day by day. Poochyena was a energetic and curious Pokemon, rather playful as well. He was quite strong and capable from the get go. Zigzagoon was much the same way, his energetic personality was sometimes difficult for me to keep up with. Silcoon and Cascoon were patient and quiet Pokemon, as the Pokedex had stated they were mostly waiting on evolving for the most part. Lotad had shown himself to be a rather kind hearted Pokemon and had been helping Mudkip grow more confident, something he was successful in doing.
Seedot was more or less a counter part to Lotad but still he was much the same personality wise, patient and silent but he seemed to enjoy my company and was happy exploring the region with me. Wingull was a pleasant Pokemon, he was more relaxed around battling and took everything in his stride. The Ralts brothers were the same Pokemon but had many differences which made them unique. The older brother was more confident and protective of his younger brother, which made sense. The younger brother was shy and reserved but didn't shy away from battles much like his older brother too. They were a fierce team together and I'm sure as a Gardevoir and Gallade they would make a terrific team.
Surskit was much the same as Seedot, very patient, but also very fast to get into battles, he also preferred battling along the surface of water in comparison to battling on land. However, Surskit did adapt and learned to battle on land as well. At that I had a brief look around Petalburg and was surprised at the cities atmosphere most of the locals spoke of the gym leaders family that being Norman, his wife and his children. One of whom was apparently a talented coordinator who was quite famous apparently. Though I'd never heard of her before.
I knew that I wasn't properly prepared to face Norman as he was supposedly quite a powerful gym leader as such I decided to continue heading West and would eventually be able to reach the first gym that I could challenge that being the Rustboro gym. I still had a ways to go before I would reach that city and there would be many more Pokemon to catch before I even reached the city too so it would be a fun journey there too. At that I headed west and reached Route 104, which was also split in half by the Petalburg Woods.
I would be a great opportunity to train the Pokemon I have caught there too and form even stronger bonds between me and them too. Before that however, I began exploring the grass around Route 104 and came across the new Pokemon I had wanted to catch, that being a Taillow. "Come out Mudkip!" Mudkip appeared glancing around at its surroundings curiously before realising he was battling a Taillow and became focused on what he needed to do. "Mudkip Water Gun!" Mudkip blasted forward using Water Gun but Taillow managed to dodge by flying into the air.
Taillow descended with surprising speed trying to land a Tackle against Mudkip. Mudkip wasn't about to let that happen and countered by dodging at the last minute and then firing a second Water Gun at the shocked and stunned Taillow scoring a direct hit. "Pokeball go!" I threw the Pokeball and watched as the ball shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Taillow has been registered to your Pokedex. Taillow the TinySwallow Pokemon a Normal and Flying Type. It has a gutsy spirit that makes it bravely take on tough foes. It flies in search of warm climates."
I released Taillow and healed him up and Taillow seemed to adjust to his capture relatively quickly, though I guess I wasn't surprised, other Flying Types I had caught in other regions adjusted rather quickly too. At that I was then challenged by a Youngster who sent out a Seedot and I sent out my Taillow for his first battle and had him use Peck defeating Seedot. The second Pokemon sent out was a Taillow and my Taillow was eager to show he was stronger and showed that by winning with a second Peck as well.
Continuing on just short of entering Petalburg Woods I was challenged by a Rich kid who sent out a Zigzagoon and I sent out my Surskit having him use Bubble repeatedly defeating Zigzagoon while dodging Quick Attacks with surprising speed. At that I entered Petalburg Woods and was stunned at how beautiful the forest appeared. If I so desired, I could stay here forever and enjoy the pleasant scenery. However, there were Pokemon that I needed to catch to accomplish my dream. At that I began researching the new Pokemon that I could find here.
Thanks to Rotom I learned there were many Pokemon that could be found in the Petalburg Woods, which made this a great place for me. At that I began trudging through the forest trying to find some new Pokemon to catch. I did come across some wild Beautifly and Dustox but I already had a Silcoon and Cascoon so I didn't need them.
The first Pokemon I came across was a Shroomish and so I sent out my Wingull for a battle, "Wingull use Wing Attack!" Shroomish tried to retaliate by using Poison Powder, but Wingull used his imitative and dodged the attack before landing a super effective Wing Attack finishing the battle. I threw a Pokeball and watched as it shook once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Shroomish has been registered to your Pokedex. Shroomish the Mushroom Pokemon a Grass Type. It spouts poison spores from the top of its head. These spores cause pain all over the body if inhaled."
I released Shroomish and healed him up glad to have a new member of the team already. Shroomish was a quiet Pokemon, very reserved. However, Shroomish did enjoy to ride on my shoulder to get around whenever he desired. Not that I minded, he was quite the character. I continued around before feeling like I was being watched, I didn't feel in danger, just that someone seemed to be observing me.
My Pokemon seemed to sense my concern and a few of them looked around wondering what was causing my concern. It didn't take long for the culprit to reveal themselves, a Treecko jumped down from a nearby branch, startling me unexpectedly. Upon seeing this Treecko grinned with amusement, before returning to a more focused and controlled stance.
Seemed as though Treecko wanted to battle and as such, my newest capture Shroomish jumped down to challenge the interloper himself. "Shroomish use Headbutt!" Shroomish dashed forward bashing right into Treecko's chest. Treecko knelt down, surprised at the force and power before standing up and glaring Shroomish down. Shroomish returned the glare waiting on his next command.
"Use one more Headbutt Shroomish!" Shroomish nodded before charging forward again. This time Treecko dodged showing incredible agility, but I shouldn't have been surprised. Treecko are incredibly nimble and fast, not easy to catch, that's for sure. "Shroomish use Poison Powder instead." Shroomish released spores that floated around but Treecko managed to dodge expertly.
He avoided the spores before descending down and striking Shroomish with a surprise Pound. Shroomish shook the attack off before glaring with renewed vigour at his opponent. "Headbutt once more!" Shroomish clashed with Treecko once more, both Pokemon colliding with Headbutt and Pound respectively. I watched carefully to see what would happen and eventually it seemed as though, Shroomish managed to overpower Treecko.
Treecko slumped downwards, trying to stand back up but struggled to do so. I took an opportunity and threw a Pokeball at the weakened Treecko and watched as it shook, once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Treecko has been registered to your Pokedex. Treecko the Wood Gecko Pokemon a Grass Type. The soles of its feet are covered by countless tiny hooks, enabling it to walk on walls and ceilings."
I released Treecko and was shocked that Treecko could walk on walls and ceilings, I'd never seen that before but judging on his agility in our battle, it wasn't that surprising. Treecko then decided to prove his ability to cling to any surface even people's clothing. Treecko clambered all over me before finding a perch he deemed suitable and rested on my shoulder watching the forest.
I had just one remaining Pokemon I needed to catch and that was a Slakoth a Normal Type that was considered to be quite lazy. I had heard that they inhabited branches and slept pretty much all the time. Only ever waking up whenever they were hungry or had exhausted their nearby food supply. In that respect they sounded extremely similar to Snorlax. Treecko spotted a Slakoth that seemed to observe me as such Treecko shot off into the branches and attacked using Pound.
Slakoth couldn't effectively counter and as such was weakened enough for me to throw a Pokeball. I watched as the ball shook, once, twice, three times before the capture was confirmed. "Slakoth has been registered to your Pokedex. Slakoth the Slacker Pokemon a Normal Type. It spends nearly all its time in a day sprawled out. Just seeing it makes one drowsy."
I didn't really feel sleepy when I had observed that specific Slakoth myself, but I guess it depended on your own mood as well. Still now that I had caught every Pokemon that inhabited Petalburg Woods I could continue onwards and challenge the remaining trainers and make my way to Rustboro City. Still before I left I also wanted to train the newer members of the team and ensure they were at a good level.
Before anything there was a Bug Catcher who desired a battle against me and he sent out three Wurmple. Each seemed to possess the same strength as the other so I sent out my Taillow having him use Peck repeatedly against each three winning the battle.
First up was Treecko one of the starter Pokemon that new trainers could choose from. Treecko showed me he was a very adventurous and curious Pokemon. In battle however, he was focused and diligent, he observed his opponents moves carefully and followed my commands without any doubt. Mudkip was also growing stronger not only with physical strength but with his confidence thanks to his previous trainer. Since we had been training together and spending lots of time together, I was happily surprised when Mudkip began glowing signalling his evolution something he wasn't expecting either.
"Marshtomp has been registered to your Pokedex. Marshtomp the Mud Fish Pokemon a Water and Ground Type. Marshtomp is much faster when traveling through mud than it is swimming. This Pokemon's hindquarters exhibit obvious development, giving it the ability to walk on just its hind legs." After Marshtomp had observed his new body curiously he jumped upwards and embraced me in a hug. I congratulated Marshtomp on successfully evolving after so much time.
Poochyena was up next and he was rather playful puppy Pokemon when outside of battle. However, the second Poochyena was in a battle he changed personalities and became a powerful aggressive wolf. He hungered for battles and desired showing his strength to his trainer. Zigzagoon was much the same as Poochyena except he didn't become aggressive when in battles, he maintained a calm disposition in battles.
Silcoon and Cascoon were advancing exceedingly quickly but that was too be expected as much like with Metapod and Kakuna back in Kanto they evolved relatively quickly in comparison to other Pokemon I had caught. As such I wasn't surprised when both Silcoon and Cascoon began evolving. "Beautifly has been registered to your Pokedex. Beautifly the Butterfly Pokemon a Bug and Flying Type. It has an aggressive nature. it stabs prey with its long narrow mouth to drain the preys fluids."
Beautifly happily flew over to me and settled on my head before my Rotom Phone updated Dustox's entry. "Dustox has been registered to your Pokedex. Dustox the Poison Moth Pokemon a Bug and Poison Type. Dustox are nocturnal Pokemon. Drawn by streetlights, they messily eat the leaves of trees lining boulevards." Dustox happily joined Beautifly hovering around my head as they expressed their thanks at reaching their evolution.
Lotad was growing more than I had expected too, he was more confident than his species usually were. He was more outgoing then expected. He had been happy when he learned that Mudkip had evolved and in turn had become far more confident in itself. Lotad however himself had been growing far more powerful. Therefore it was no surprise when Lotad had reached his evolution. "Lombre has been registered to your Pokedex. Lombre the Jolly Pokemon a Water and Grass Type. It has a mischievous spirit. If it spots an angler, it will tug on the line to interfere."
Lombre happily danced around me happy at achieving his evolution. Seedot was next and was conveniently very similar to Lotad, he was quite shy and kept to himself. However, when in battle, Seedot showed that he was quite courageous and confident in his own abilities. After training vigorously through the forest I was happy to see that Seedot was already evolving. "Nuzleaf has been registered to your Pokedex. Nuzleaf the Wily Pokemon a Grass and Dark Type. The sound of its grass flute makes its listeners uneasy. It lives deep in the forest."
Not only was Nuzleaf happy at reaching his evolution and thanked his trainer extensively for the time he spent in training Nuzleaf so diligently. But, like the Pokedex entry stated, Nuzleaf were commonly found living deep in the forest and Petalburg Woods were a perfect habitat for them to thrive in. Nuzleaf therefore enjoyed his surroundings and battled to his best ability using the terrain to his advantage.
Taillow was having the time of his life in Petalburg Woods as they were filled with Grass and Bug Type Pokemon and as such Taillow was getting stronger after every battle. When not battling, Taillow perched on his trainers shoulder of head and watched the surroundings carefully making sure that no Pokemon could sneak up on his beloved trainer. Wingull too was much like Taillow in being confident in his abilities against the multitude of Bug and Grass Types however, he much preferred being around water and the woods kind of made him feel cramped. I reassured Wingull that eventually we would be out of the woods and in open area where Wingull should feel much better.
The two brotherly Ralts were doing well, the older brother engaged more with battles compared to his younger brother however, that didn't mean that the younger Ralts was weaker. More than likely the younger Ralts just needed more time and training and that was my job. Surskit was in a similar position to Wingull, Surskit preferred to be on or around open water, like lakes where he felt at home. I reassured him much like I did with Wingull that we would be leaving soon much to Surskit's happiness.
Shroomish loved the woods they were the perfect habitat for a Grass Type like him, yet he understood that not all Pokemon would feel the same way. Still, with me, Shroomish was gaining confidence around me, understanding my battle strategies and working around them to be a stronger Pokemon. Shroomish also got along well not too my surprise, with Lombre and Nuzleaf, his fellow Grass Types. Slakoth was similar to my Snorlax he preferred to lounge around but was a powerhouse when needed. At the moment Slakoth hadn't reached those insane levels of strength but slowly and with patience from me, he was steadily improving.
After the training, I was about to finish up and leave the Petalburg Woods when I was challenged by a Bug Catcher who sent out a Nincada a unique Bug and Ground Type. It was unique because when it evolves you get a extra Pokemon something very unique to only Nincada. I sent out my Beautifly and had him overwhelm Nincada with Gust finishing the battle.
At that I left Petalburg Woods and reached north of Route 104 where I would continue my journey to catch every Pokemon I could.
