Chapter 2 - Asylum Madness
#2 of The Haunted Asylum
Here's the next chapter. I want to apologize in advance for the horrendous formatting. This website does some weird shenanigans to the text. Every time I altered the formatting at one point in the text another would be modified.
The lupine-morph stared up at Amanda both confused and horrified.
"How are you an Indagator? You've got to have the largest, most ridiculous endowments on this entire planet." He stopped in horror. "You're going to kill us aren't you?"
"Depends. Have you killed anyone?"
"N-No."
"Then there's nothing to worry about."
"Daddy, what's an Indagator?" The little wolf-girl asked.
"Ruthless, heartless, murderers." His gaze, formerly filled with confusion, hardened. "I've seen what you're organization has done. Sending countless innocent people to their deaths."
"When?"
"Anytime there's a monster that needs to be dealt with."
"Then, are you sure the people my organization was condemning to their deaths, were innocent after all?" She icily stated.
"I saw the look in their eyes! They were innocent! All of them!"
She crouched down. The wolfman's eyes expressed a look of shock and disbelief.
"Are you sure what you saw was their true nature?"
"I-" The wolf peered away, his eyes clouded with doubt.
"Well, I don't care what she is, I think she's friendly." The wolf-girl boldly stated as she hugged her leg. Her hand grazed upon something tight, and large. She could hear a distinct gurgling. She frowned.
"What's that?"
She gripped a firm, furry object.
"Now, now, dear let's not find that out."
The wolf quickly picked up his daughter and put her back down beside him.
"Why have you lead her here?"
"Well, I found her in the lobby putting something on her sword. I was curious, as most people just bring a camera."
The father sighed. He looked up at Amanda, her arms crossed.
"I'm guessing you're here because people have reported a haunting right?"
No response.
"If you're wondering how I know, I was a journalist when I was alive. Covering your professions work frequently."
A nod. "What can you tell me about this place?"
The wolf now felt relieved, and no longer horrified. "In its former life it was an Asylum, but now rots away."
"Why have you and several other spirits, chosen to stay here?"
"We didn't. At least I didn't. I remember dying of old age in my bed beside my wife."
He peered over at the wolf-anthro with an empty look in her eyes. "I don't know how she ended up like this." Tears welled up in his eyes "As I found myself as a spirit I wandered these halls trying to figure out where I was until I stumbled across her. Something was wrong with her. I don't know what it was but she could hardly speak. A doctor approached us, and said he could fix her."
"Who was this doctor? Was he also a ghost?"
"Yes. He said he'd need to take her to the surgery room to fix her and said I couldn't be with her as he was performing surgery."
A slow nod.
"When I got her back she seemed fine, like herself, but a little stiff. We both decided we'd want to move on to the next life. So we began to find out ways to do that. But as we did, the doctor stopped us warning it would be detrimental to my wife's spiritual health."
"You continued searching didn't you?"
The wolf spirit nodded.
"As we did my wife's health as a spirit gradually failed, and now she's like this. I don't know what that doctor did, but whatever it was didn't help my wife."
Amanda carefully approached the spirit on the collapsed stretcher and crouched down beside her. The spirit's gaze was empty, yet clinging on to something.
"Help. Me." Her voice was weak.
The horse-anthro sighed and stood back up to her impressive height.
"What do you know of this doctor?" Her voice was cold and angered.
"Nothing much. He only appears here and there."
"Do you know where specifically?"
He shrugged.
"Last I saw him he was in the break room."
Amanda nodded and stepped outside.
"Are you going to find him?" The wolf-anthro followed after.
A nod. The door slammed shut beside her seemingly on its own accord, knocking the ghost back. The horse-woman gripped her sword prepared for combat.
"Will she now?" A deep, sinister voice echoed throughout the building. "A stray horse wanders into my Asylum and claims she's going to find me." A deep rolling laugh. "How cute. What if I don't want to be found? What if I just want her to leave?" A strong wind blew through the hall ruffling her cloak. It somehow still managed to obscure her body from view. "You're spirit tells me your body is that of a lady's but equipped with both lady's and a man's private parts. How fascinating! Oh! There's an additional cow appendage hanging just below your stomach as well!"
"Who are you?" Amanda yelled through gritted teeth.
"I'm just a humble doctor practicing medicine." A harsh, bone-chilling, cackle. "Your friends here have told you a bit more than I'm comfortable with."
"What are you hiding!"
"Oh! Nothing! Darling, just my life's research. I'll show you what I've learned."
"Help! Help!" Amanda heard the spirits banging on the door beside her. With a slosh from her body, she leaned back and kicked the door open only to find the mother and father, staring at her with an empty gaze. Anger welled up inside her.
"You're an absolute piece of shit! I'm going to find you and cut your fucking throat open you hear!"
"Whoa now, that's not appropriate language for a lady."
The wolf-anthro's began slowly marching their way toward Amanda.
"Mummy! Daddy! What are you doing?!" The little wolf-girl yelled in dismay.
"Oh? The girl survived. How interesting, perhaps I need to conduct more research. I best be off then! Have fun!" An evil cackle slowly faded away.
The husband leaped at Amanda. She sidestepped his blow with a slosh only to get gouged across her muzzle.
"Please don't kill them!" The wolf-girl called out.
"I'm sorry girl but that might not be possible!"
The Indagator knocked the wife away, parried the husband, leaving a deep cut down his back. The ghost howled in pain as smoke came out of the wound.
"PLEASE! STOP!" The girl desperately called out. "MUMMY! DADDY!"
The attacking anthros halted for a brief moment. While Amanda's face, was filled with cold determination, she rummaged through her mind to find a method to fulfill the girl's request. She recalled a move, one of her friends, another mutated Indagator was taught. The purifying palm. It was a magical ability taught to Indagators specializing in fighting unarmed and unarmored. Her friend had informed it would remove any impurities within anyone. It was difficult to channel and she had no idea if it would work. But the horse-woman failed to see any alternative way. She took a deep breath and braced herself.
"Come at me you undead freaks!" She yelled out. Immediately snapping the spirits out of their stupor. The wife launched herself at the woman, she blocked with her sword and placed her palm on the wife's chest, sending all she could into her palm. It began to glow faintly at first until it tripled in intensity. The wife's spirit hit the floor with a thud. Amanda felt winded, the husband leaped at her throat with his clawed hands. He was unable to push her back, as her mass was simply too great. Before he could bite into her neck, she placed her palm atop the husband's muzzle and channeled all she had left into her palm. It glowed a bright yellow as she shoved the wolf away. He collapsed on the ground.
The horse-woman felt dizzy, her head spun as she felt utterly spent. Stumbling backward, she fell backward through the crumbling wall collapsing on her back as the rain soaking her cloak. Her eyes fluttered closed as she forgot about the present.
