The Hive of the Blazing Queen

The air was still that summer night, and Blaze enjoyed the lingering warmth that hung around the city park. The purple-furred cat walked the concrete paths of the public place, a dressing gown draped over her shoulders and occasionally flowing behind her if there was a momentary breeze to move the air for a second or two. It was rare, however, and most of the time the half-transparent garment fell like a simple waterfall over her shoulders.
She shook her head as she walked through the darkened park, the soft grasses gentle underfoot when she left the path and the trees comforting. There was something about the emptiness of these places that helped still the fires inside, something about the quiet that helped her center herself when the world was so out of control.
It was her nightly ritual to do this so that she could start the next day calm and collected, something that people preferred considering her powers. Her fires flickered at the edges of her fingertips, a reminder of what she could do, and a reminder of what she had to control. She clenched her hand into a fist to stop it, and kept walking.
She had made a full loop of the park and was considering a second when a low hum caught her ear. It was not dissimilar to the sound of a certain evil genius's portals, and she turned slowly to the source of it. The sound faded in short order, but there was something new on the air. It wasn't so still anymore, and...
And things were moving.
The purple cat stopped, turning to face it as the fire built between her fingers. Eyes narrowed and ears flicking all about, she waited. Something had come through, something that didn't belong here.
At first, the park was quiet, empty, and there was no sign of anything, but Blaze waited. The air stilled again, and the breeze died off, but still she waited.
And her patience was rewarded as a shape darted between the trees some fifty feet away. The cat whipped her hand up, and from her glove sprouted tongues of flame. They lunged for the shape, the black silhouette bursting into flame and shrieking with sounds completely unearthly. She pulled the fires back as it collapsed, knowing that it had been consumed already, and steam rose from the corpse.
"That was a warning," she said. "If anyone else lingers in the woods, then step forward. Let me see you."
She expected them to hide. What she did not expect was an attack.
Three more of the shapes threw themselves from the dark cover of the trees, rising and falling like things hopping along the ground. She stepped back, thrusting her other hand forward. Tongues of flame turned to a fireball, one that burst and consumed two of them at once, leaving them shrieking just as the first had.
As she turned her attention to the final one, she saw details. Two purple strips along the core of the body illuminated six tentacles that streaked out from the center of the strange creature, and the core itself was no bigger than the main part of a functional breathing mask. It lunged forward by thrusting its tentacles against the ground, leaving behind streaks of black ooze on the ground, and -
And it was coming right for her face.
Blaze leaned back, feeling like the world was slowing down in the process. The creature streaked the air with black as it leaped one more time, dripping like mad as if it was shedding some of its substance for a hint of speed, and she could already tell that she couldn't bring her hand up fast enough to deflect it or conjure flames fast enough to set it aside. All she could do was try and dodge.
She whipped her head back, but it was too late. The creature made contact, and its ooze, so slippery-looking at a distance, immediately sealed it to her face. One of its tendrils slammed down her throat, pinning her tongue in place, while the others wrapped around her cheeks, running down and around her throat, and others over the top of her head so that she couldn't pull it away.
"MMPH!"
The most sound she could make was so muffled that she could barely hear it herself. Her fingers twitched, her gloves feeling tight as she tried to bring her hands up to burn it off her face, her beauty be damned, but her body only...trembled. It was as if something was taking her control of herself away.
The Hive is here.
The - Blaze almost stumbled backward as she heard the voice in her head. It had to come from the creature. And it talked of some -
The Hive starts here.
"Nngh...mmmph..."
Her body was already trembling from head to toe. The only thing keeping her from falling flat on her face was the raw willpower she pulled from her flames. She clung to it, panting even as the thing in her mouth pushed further down her throat, dripping away. The tendrils on either side of her face and along her head were dripping, too, oozing over her, running further along her forehead and...
And...
Sinking into her, she realized. Her skin was melting under the touch of the goo, and the black ooze was finally starting to flow into her skin. Past her fur, past her flesh, right down to the tissue beneath. Her eyes widened and she finally managed a shocked step back, slumping against the tree behind her.
You are Hive.
"Nnnngh..."
She shook her head, and for the first time, felt something back. Shock. Shock, awe, and instant respect from the mask on her face.
You...are more than Hive...you...You are...royalty.
Blaze stiffened, and as she did, so did the tendrils running over her head and down her throat. They clenched, the one inside her spewing something down into her core that was warm and thick, even as the voice whispered to her further.
You are Royalty. A Queen. You may serve the Hive as a ruler.
"Nnngh...mmmph."
No, she was not a ruler any longer. She'd come here to get away from that. She'd fled that life. She had lost it. There was nothing -
Strong, powerful, standing above the others.
Her mind flooded with images of others looking up at her, admiring her. They saw her, looked her over, and their eyes flashed, both with awe and with -
Lust.
Blaze tried to hold onto herself, trying to hold onto her modesty and her sense of purpose, but the fires that burned inside of her were being twisted, turned to some other direction. She could feel the flames rising, coursing through her and roaring in the inferno that was no longer under her control.
Once more, she reached for her face, and this time, her hand obeyed. Her gloves were slowly running off her fingers, turning black rather than white and running along her arms in stripes. She managed to curl her fingers against the mask, but as she reached for the seams where it was supposed to press against her face, she couldn't find a gap. Whatever it was, it had completely sealed to her face.
"Nnngh...mmph..."
You are Royalty. You are the Queen. Be our Queen.
The word was loaded with so much power and more, with baggage that she had tried to escape, and yet, even as she tried to remember the reasons that she had fled from being a princess in another world, she couldn't hold onto it. All she could do was think of what it was here, what it would offer her.
People.
Power.
Prestige.
Pleasure.
She was panting, she realized, and every time she breathed in, more of the goo - and something else - went down her throat, filling her stomach and her lungs at the same time. Her body felt hot and wet, and it was hard for her to keep her head on straight. Everything was swimming, the world feeling like it was going...fluid, almost, around her.
No, no, that wasn't the world. That was her.
She reached up and pressed at her eyes, feeling her face melting slightly. She was able to push it back to normal, but it was an effort, and the rest of her body was molding, morphing, shifting. She panted hard as she reached down to her chest, feeling the latex that her skin had become melting and rolling away. Her dressing gown had long since rolled off her shoulders, all but puddling at her feet, and her shoes had been sucked in, somehow, rolling around inside her half-liquid body.
Queen of the Hive.
"Queen...of the Hive..."
Her voice came through the mask, muffled but still hers. But were the thoughts hers? That was the million-dollar question, and she didn't have a clear answer. All she knew was that she was...
She wasn't bothered. Not anymore. The mask offered her ideals. It offered her a purpose that she hadn't had for too long. And it offered her power. Her fires burned and bubbled at the ends of her limbs, a different power suffusing her than she'd had before, and one that she was willing to accept as her new strength.
In the distance, she was aware of more of the mask-creatures, knowing that they were leaping around to find more hosts. She would need to see to them, sooner or later, just to make sure that they were getting someone, or something, useful. But for now, she was...
She was the Queen.
Queen of the Hive.
Queen Blaze.
And she would rule.
