Falling Out and Falling In
Part 2

As much as he expected slit-sex with the aquatic Deathclaw to be messy, the reality was even slimier than he expected. Helmrick could hear every squelch, every wet 'pop' of his cock sliding in and out of that opening between Gruth's legs as he humped away, grunting as he buried his dick deep inside of that slippery thing, feeling it grinding against the ovipositor further in and not caring in the slightest. So long as it was open and willing - and both the collar and their mutual situation demanded that it was - a hole was a hole for the griffon.
"Mmmph...that's it...ah..."
He groaned under his breath as he savored the feeling of fucking away. It was partially to sell the illusion of breaking the beast in for the cameras, but if he was completely honest with himself, there was something purely satisfying about having that collar on someone and using it. He wasn't going to lie to himself; if he had more collars that could control others, he wasn't sure that he could be trusted to allow them their own liberty. Simply turning them on and making use of them would be far too tempting.
In, out, in, out. That slit just accepted him, and the slimy Deathclaw under him let out its bestial moans every time that he bottomed out. He doubted that it felt as good as one of its own species, but he was still enjoying himself, and the sounds made it better.
Today's the day, thought the plotting part of his brain that was quite separate from the majority of his thoughts enjoying the pleasure of the beast below him. Today's the day...we get the hell out of here.
That part of his mind was hard at work going through the plan he'd come up with over the past few days. He had the perfect excuse for Stephano to assign him to the surface team, and he had a custom Eye-Bot ready to send the coordinates and timing to Axel. Everything was in place.
All he had to do was execute.
In, out, in, out, the sloshing fluids constantly leaking from the forced-soft ovipositor soaking his cock and balls as he rammed in and out. The inner walls clenched around his cock, milking it like some eager slut, and he leaned forward, all but laying on the Deathclaw's stomach as he looked him in the eyes.
"Heh...I guess your handler...did this to you...pretty often, huh?"
Gruth didn't answer. He just stared at the ceiling, even though his face did show some similarity to some bottoms that he had enjoyed before. A little twist at the side of the mouth, a low coo of pleasure from being filled to the brim and the like. In reality, he didn't know if the capybara was the top or the Deathclaw, but it was more fun to tease the big brute about being someone under a smaller species.
He picked up the pace as he felt his orgasm coming closer, grunting as he buried his cock faster, his balls grinding against the great lizard's taint. In, out, in, out, feeling those gushing fluids running down and over his sac, grunting as he rammed his dick in up to the hilt every time. Those huge paws were up in the air, no longer restrained, because they didn't need to be. The collar offered him all the control that he would ever need.
The griffon grunted under his breath, huffing through his beak as he grabbed hold of the lizard's thighs. He dragged himself forward, all but grinding as he reached his peak. Not in-out, but up-down, grinding away at that slit, feeling every gripping feeling of that little hole, clenching down on him, milking him -
And then he was over the edge.
"Nnngh...mmmph..."
He hissed to himself as he felt the pleasure hit, the familiar orgasmic bliss that always came when he had his way with the subjects that were...more amenable to it. The pulsing pleasure rising through his cock, the spitting sensation of it loosing his seed within the other creature, everything so familiar...and just a little bit more pleasurable than usual. He groaned, looking down at the aquatic Deathclaw with a more concerned eye.
"...Either that...that was a..."
A psychological release as much as a physical one, he wanted to say, or there were some chemicals in the Deathclaw's body that were able to work as a sort of 'venom' that affected others. Perhaps that was a way to keep other Deathclaws interested once the mating started; they'd never examined their captive Matriarch for that, and it was entirely possible that it was a thing that the whole species had. Then again, considering the mutations that Gruth had, it might also be a thing that only the aquatics truly made use of. After all, if they were mating in the water, they'd probably need something more intense to attract a partner than the scents above-ground creatures used.
It was an interesting scientific inquiry, but this time, they didn't have time to get into it. He pulled out, making a mental note as he wiped his dick clean, and stepped away from the exam table.
As he pulled his pants back on, he glanced at the nearest time piece. They had approximately twenty minutes before the next patrol team was sent out, and that meant that they needed to get a move on. He glanced back at Gruth, well aware that he was putting his fate in the hands of a creature that could barely talk and a mercenary that he barely knew, but there was little choice in the matter. If he didn't do something today, if he didn't take the chance to get out while the getting was good, he didn't know how long he'd have to live.
After all, the Enclave had just brought someone back to Raven Rock. He'd not heard much about it, only that this one was a Vault Dweller, and that he had been responsible for a great deal of setbacks that the Enclave had been suffering of late. And now, he was in the depths of the Enclave's fortress.
Helmrick was not a paranoid man, but he'd seen the reports. If this prisoner was the one that he thought it was, then they were better off leaving that son of a bitch in the Wasteland. Bringing him here was just giving him free access to a previously inaccessible facility, and if he ever got loose...
The griffon shook his head. Better not to be here. Better to be far, far, far away from here.
"Get up," he commanded.
The Deathclaw rose to his feet. He'd fitted the collar with a secondary control mechanism, one that allowed vocal commands in addition to the constant stream of them from the control device he carried. It was subtle, and not entirely fine-tuned just yet, but it was better than nothing, and it was something that Stephano didn't know about. All he could hope was that it would continue working in the field.
"Come with me. I'll call an escort now."
#
"You want me to what?"
Well, at least the squirrel was calm about the idea; that was a good start. The last time that someone had asked Stephano a favor, the director had gone ballistic and had almost ordered the scientist in question shot. The only thing that had saved the poor pigeon had been the fact that Eden was interested in the scientist's project and kept him alive. Hadn't stopped Stephano from making the man's life a living hell until that was done, though.
Helmrick repeated himself.
"I want to take the new one on the patrol," he said.
"Merely for combat data? That would be possible with any number of other handlers that are owed surface time," the squirrel said, one eyebrow raised.
"That's true, but most of them aren't familiar with the new collar. I don't want to lose this sample; the specimen's been particularly productive, and there's enough to his anatomy that I think we might be able to adapt to a new Deathclaw generation. Something useful for subduing others rather than just killing them."
"...Is that so?" The squirrel's eyebrow came back down. "I would have thought that you'd have filed some paperwork on the subject by now if that was the case. Where are these reports, then?"
"In the process of being filled out," he said, dancing around the subject. "I need more data to be sure, and the only way to test this is to see this specimen in action. And I'm the only one that knows how this collar works."
"And you want to be out on the surface. Rather than using some of the men on punishment duty."
"They're too susceptible to mutation."
It was an off-the-cuff answer, but a workable one. All the soldiers that they kept in Raven Rock and the other buried Enclave facilities throughout the Capital Wasteland were as 'pure' as the president could find. They weren't affected by the radiation and other mutations on the surface yet, and that meant that they didn't have the same resistances to rad-effects that the rest of the Wasteland did. A field test was the only way to see if something that worked well in the lab would work out well on other, future targets.
Stephano tapped his chin, the long-tailed squirrel glancing at the tentacled Deathclaw standing just behind the griffon. Helmrick held his breath.
"...Tell me what capabilities you think he can pass on, then."
"I'm working off the theory that his tentacles and mucus have an effect on those that touch them. A sort of venom, though not a lethal one."
"Paralytic?"
"Nervous, and hyper-sensory."
"...Pleasure, then. Again."
"We all have our fields of focus, Doctor Stephano. You prefer to focus on pain; I prefer to focus on the opposite."
And one more reason that he needed to get out before someone started taking things further. He had already been on the chopping block for some of his experiments before. The budget of the Enclave didn't stretch endlessly, and when it came to their research, the top brass always preferred the idea of putting plasma through someone or armor that would protect them from lasers and bullets over something more...sensual.
So far, he had been able to adapt sex to the battlefield better than anyone had expected, but there was a limitation to how many different perversions that he could adapt to combat. This was probably the last one that he could bullshit his way through.
"If he can be tested, and tested effectively against those on the surface, then it can be used as a public-image thing. We are giving pleasure to the enemy as they die, rather than tormenting them."
"Fear subdues the enemy better."
"Unless they have deviants on their side. You know how they are."
"...You are playing me...and playing me quite effectively," Stephano said, that familiar not-quite-real smirk flicking up on the side of his muzzle. "Very well. I'll grant you permission to go with the surface team. But if your experiment does not work out, then you will be on the chopping block for funding when you return. You understand me, I hope."
Better than the squirrel probably thought he did. If it failed, better to stay on the surface rather than come back...and to take the plasma shot to the back for desertion than to be rendered redundant in one of Stephano's departments. The squirrel was always quick to use those that were judged useless for his own experiments, and unlike what the griffon did, they didn't tend to end pleasantly for the subjects involved.
"Understood, sir."
"Get prepped. The Verti-Bird will be landing here to take you out in thirty minutes."
He nodded, sidling away from the squirrel. That should be sufficient time to get an Eye-Bot sent out with the proper instructions and route for Axel. He just hoped that the capybara was where he'd last met him, otherwise the Eye-Bot might not find him in time.
And he really, really didn't want to be stuck under the squirrel's experiments.
#
They'd reached the area just north of the Mall, and the ruined museums in the distance loomed large with smoke coming off them. The laser-pulses and rat-ta-tat sounds of Super Mutant gunfire were loud as ever, though the outpost that the Brotherhood kept around the Washington Monument was no longer so active. They might have abandoned it, he supposed, or were in the process of diverting some of their manpower elsewhere in the ruins of the capital. Whatever the reason for the silence around the big stone phallus, he didn't care; it was all the better for him.
Thankfully, the sounds of combat had come to a halt in their immediate area. Three other Deathclaws - more standard versions than Gruth, dumb and controlled by the electro-collars and helmets that the science divisions had created - were wandering around the bodies of things that had been torn apart to such a degree that it was no longer possible to determine that they had been. Ghouls? Mutants? Hard to tell when your body parts were not just pulled apart but shredded by limbs that were stronger than anything on a more humanoid frame.
He fought the urge to throw up as he sat at the edge of one of the trenches, taking a few deep breaths. Gruth wandered with the other Deathclaws, either communing with them in their own bestial way or just pretending to be like them, while the eight-man squad of power-armor soldiers poked the bodies and took samples. They were as competent as anyone in the Enclave, and they did their job well.
It should have made him feel safe. Instead, it made him feel worried that Axel wouldn't be able to handle them.
And there was still no sign of the capybara, either, which had him far more concerned than he wanted to admit. He surreptitiously looked from side to side, scanning the other trenches, looking past the monument, even glancing towards the various buildings on either side of the vast, empty space.
Nothing.
No-one.
Did he miss the Eye-Bot? Give up? Where is he?
There was no clear answer. All he had for a possibility was the thing that the other man had said when they'd last met. Gruth needed to be present...and the Deathclaw needed to be leading the patrol.
So far, that hadn't happened. So far, the other Deathclaws had been leading the way, cutting down anything in their path. Was that the reason why Axel hadn't made a move yet? If so...Maybe he could fix that.
Fighting the little shudders that kept trying to sneak their way up his spine - mostly from the fact that he was getting to see the blood and battle properly, for the first time in his life - Helmrick cleared his throat. The nearest Enclave soldier looked back at him, eyebrow raised.
" What is it?"
"When we set out again, I want my Deathclaw at the front."
" Why the hell do you want that?"
"Part of why I'm here is to figure out what his capabilities are. By the time that you deploy your Deathclaws and your plasma weapons, there's nothing left to test him on."
" That's not our problem."
"I'll make it your problem. Give me one hour with him in the lead, and we'll switch back."
" Are you pulling rank, Doctor?"
"If I have to."
He really hoped he didn't have to.
The soldiers glanced back and forth between each other, glowing eye-lenses flickering with light. He imagined that they'd switched to internal comms to talk to each other without giving him a clue what they were saying. Annoying feature, though tactically useful. It was something that the Brotherhood didn't have in their armor just yet, and it had saved several Enclave soldiers in some of their ambushes. Being able to coordinate when the enemy couldn't hear what you were saying was a useful ability.
Finally, the soldier turned back to him. He sighed.
" Fine. You can take point. One hour."
"Thank you."
" Reorganize and move out; the Monument's quiet enough to go around it for now."
This would be the best chance that he was likely to get. He just hoped that Axel would be paying attention, because he doubted that they'd get a second chance to rearrange the patrol this way. And around the Monument would be perfect for an ambush, all things considered. The Brotherhood would be blamed, and there'd be less chance of someone chasing after them. If his death could be properly faked, all the better, but so long as the Brotherhood was blamed...
They set off. This time, he walked near the front, just behind the aquatic Deathclaw, with the other Deathclaws behind him and huffing and grunting at all times. He tried his best to ignore those sounds, telling himself that the rest of the squad had no reason to turn on him that they knew of. They weren't going to suddenly release the big lizards on him and leave him dead or dying. No, no, that wouldn't happen.
It couldn't happen.
But as they approached the monument, other thoughts started popping into his head. He was on the verge of leaving behind the only home that he'd ever known, and he was setting it aside for something that he didn't know or understand. He was giving up the safety of the Enclave bases for a world that was ready to put him down the moment that he let his guard down. He could die, mutate, or face far worse fates every single day, all because he no longer wanted to live among the Enclave.
Was that worth it?
Was the risk of those horrors worth a life that was out from under the Enclave's thumb?
He hoped so. He didn't think that he could turn back now.
As he rounded the sheet-metal fence that had been erected around the great white monument, Helmrick saw a flash of movement. He hesitated, not sure if it was Axel or a mutant, only for a grenade to come arcing up and out from over the wall.
" Eyes up!"
The soldier's shout came too late. The grenade rolled between Helmrick and the Deathclaws, and he saw the soft metal construction and the wires that came out of either end. He instantly recognized it as an EMP device, and he knew that he was in perhaps the most dangerous position that he possibly could be.
BOOM!
The shockwave of the grenade knocked him off his feet, sending him falling to the ground, and all around him, the Deathclaws screamed. The Enclave soldiers weren't quiet, either, but they were still, their armor stiffening as the systems supporting them went offline. They'd be booting back up for thirty seconds, at least, and thirty seconds with multiple angry Deathclaws in the area was not a short amount of time.
As he fell over, his body not wanting to obey his commands due to the currents of electricity running up and down his spine, Helmrick focused most of his attention on just keeping himself from pissing himself. The fact that he was paralyzed was terrifying, but he could put that down for the moment. Hold the fear at bay. The Deathclaws weren't attacking him; instead, they had whirled around, throwing themselves at the metal-sheathed soldiers in a fury that he had never seen in wild animals before.
That said, most wild animals that had faced the mental torment and physical torture that those Deathclaws had endured would have been long-since cowed into full and total obedience. Fear would have dominated them. Not these creatures. Not here.
As metal was rent and sheared apart, as the Deathclaws laid into their tormentors, a new shadow fell over Helmrick. He barely managed to turn his head to look up at Gruth, the tentacled Deathclaw looking down at him. The tendrils twitched, and his hands clenched...
And he slowly reached out for the griffon...claws extended.
"W-wait...wait...no...we...we had..."
He couldn't even speak without spitting up and drooling all over himself. His entire body failed him, unable to focus through the spasms of electricity that were still running through him from head to toe. His white robe was already stained in the dust and dirt and blood, and now -
"Ulk!"
Gruth had him by the throat, picking him up. He could barely breathe through the grip around his throat, and he was held high enough that he could see over the mutant Deathclaw's shoulder. He watched as the others ripped through the Enclave forces, already having killed off four of the eight soldiers that had accompanied the mission. The others had booted their armor up and engaged the beasts, shooting plasma bolts over their bodies.
Won't...last...long...
The analytical part of his brain had already taken notice of the fact that the Deathclaws were already in their death throes. They were weakened, damaged badly by the various shocks that they had taken over the years. They were ferocious, ignoring the pain that they were suffering, but that didn't mean that they were immortal. One went down, and he knew that the others would fall shortly after.
There...there will be...witnesses...
Gruth squeezed around his throat, the Deathclaw's fingers near the top of his neck as they pushed in. His beak popped open from the pressure, and one of the tentacles on Gruth's back swung forward, pushing down his throat. As the aquatic Deathclaw roared, the wriggling thing went deep, and...
And it oozed something...
And then the world went dark.
#
Helmrick tried to move his fingers when awareness came, and he realized he could. Toes next, then tension-tests along his calves, thighs, forearms, upper arms. Simple little things, testing his mobility and - well, to be fair, testing whether he was still alive or whether this was just his brain sending random signals in the last moments of his life.
It seemed to be real. He was surprised.
"Gonna open your eyes?"
Axel. It seemed that things hadn't gone completely out of control, after all. Slowly, the griffon forced his eyelids open, and he found himself staring up at blue-sky. No clouds, just empty sky, with no sign of smoke, smog, or anything else around him.
"What happened?" That seemed like a reasonable first question. "I thought we were going to escape?"
"We did," Axel said, just out of view. "I just wanted to make sure that the one injured asshole in their group got away with a good story to tell. Flash. Lone scientist killed by his own experiment. Failure to tame the aquatic Deathclaw. Do not attempt again."
The capybara's soft chuckle was vaguely infectious, and despite himself, he smiled. It was an odd feeling to do with a beak, but it was one that he had grown used to over time.
"An interesting solution. I wish that I'd had some warning about that."
"Sorry, but that probably would have spoiled it."
"Possibly." He groaned, rubbing his throat. "I did not expect to be throat-fucked. A sedative in the tentacles."
"I guess; never had the chance to get it properly analyzed, but it's potent, whatever it is. Sends you right to dreamland." Axel chuckled. "I've used that a few times when there've been a lot of bad dreams. It's really good at keeping those from bothering you, if you have an issue with them."
Helmrick nodded. The smell of slime and blood was still around, which meant that they probably hadn't gone far enough to make changing clothes an option. He shook his head slowly, feeling the rock 'pillow' that he'd been leaning on grinding against the back of his head. He tested his arms, found them willing to move, and slowly pushed himself upright.
They were well away from the city, he realized. The Capital Wasteland was still around them, and he recognized the coastline to an extent to their east, but they were well away from the Jefferson Monument and the core of the capital. Whatever Axel and Gruth had done while he was unconscious, they had certainly moved quickly to get them out of the area.
"So."
He turned. Axel sat on a burnt-out stump, one leg up, the other down. He had an assault rifle against the side of the stump, and he had a knife in hand that he was polishing slowly. Gruth squatted behind him, but even that left the Deathclaw taller than the squat, solid mercenary.
"What now?"
"Now?"
Helmrick shook his head as he stretched his legs. Having sensation again was nice; not fighting his bladder as his nervous system went into a hard reboot was nicer. Even so, he wobbled as he got his legs under him, and he knew that he'd be a little off-balance for a day or two.
"Now, we go south."
"South, huh? Carolinas?" Axel asked.
"They are the only other alternative, other than going further north and looking for the Commonwealth. I don't think that would be a good option for either of us, considering the stories coming out of the North."
"I don't know. Some of the stories coming out of the south aren't much better."
"But they have some good ones as well as bad ones. That's something. And more importantly, 'intelligent creatures' aren't necessarily shot on sight."
"Least, that's what the stories say," Axel said, looking over his shoulder at Gruth. "Just like the stories said that the Capital had some Brotherhood of Steel folks that weren't terrible, and a couple of cities that'd take people like us. Heh. No cities up here worth the name, eh?"
"Mmmph."
It was the first grunt that sounded more like conversation to come from Gruth, but it was not the time to admire that. Helmrick was still thinking.
Their options weren't precisely good. For all that they had a relatively clean break from the Enclave, they were still out in the open, and if things heated up between the Enclave and the Brotherhood - which, considering what he'd heard about Project Purity and the fact that both sides wanted it, could happen at any moment - the Capital Wasteland was going to go from hot to on fire in seconds. Both sides had massive amounts of tech at their command, and while he'd still put the edge on the Enclave, it was a slender edge, at best.
They needed to get out, but the Carolinas were only one option, and a far-off one at that. They'd need to cross all of Virginia first to get there, and after that, they'd need to actually find one of the storied places where people were rebuilding.
And that was if the stories were true.
"So, Mr. Scientist -"
"Helmrick," the griffon corrected.
"Helmrick. Sorry. Where are we going?"
"...For now, I think it'd be best for us to lie low. Wait to see what happens. If the Enclave comes running for me, we start making distractions and get the hell out. Until then, let's wait...and maybe someone will come up from the south. Maybe there's something that'll give us the little nugget of information we need to make a final decision."
It wasn't the most 'active' decision that he could have made, and even as he said it, he felt a little concerned about the actual possibilities. It was nothing more than a 'wait and see' action, something that only had a scant possibility of paying off...
But at the same time, he didn't feel right about pushing to go further than that. They didn't have any real information. From everything that he'd heard from Gruth and Axel, the furthest south that they'd been had been midway down Virginia, and even that wasn't so well-explored. They didn't know anything, he didn't know anything, and it meant that they were all taking a risk trying the southern road.
He realized, at that moment, that this was the first time in his life that he was actually taking a step into the unknown. He had never had such a gaping abyss in his understanding of what lay out there. Everything in the Wasteland had always been filtered through the vast database that was the Enclave's personal computers and research departments, giving him context and data to work with as he ran his experiments and made countless personal decisions. Now? Now, he only had what he had in his brain, and while he had a lot of personal knowledge and kept a lot of personal experience from all his experiments in there, he knew almost nothing of this surface world.
It was going to be a hell of a learning experience, he supposed. But that was something that he was good at; he'd pick it up, soon enough.
"Alright. So, hiding it is," Axel said. "I know a place on the highway going south. Might be the best place to hang out until one of the traders comes up from the south; might give us a chance to spot 'em before they go so far north that we miss 'em."
"That sounds good to me. What kind of structure?"
"Old motel. Lots of rooms. Couple of neighbors sometimes, but usually stays pretty empty. Fence, too; it'll keep the ghouls out while we're resting."
"Better and better. What's the downside?"
"No water purifier."
"...Oh."
"Yeah. Gonna have to get used to Wasteland rules, Helmrick. Speaking as someone that did it once already, you have my sympathies."
That was going to be difficult. Going out to meet Axel the first time had cost him a great deal of medical supplies, and he was still sure that some of the radiation had slipped in regardless of his best attempts. He did not have much of that to his name, though his coat would keep some of the worst of the rad effects from his body. He would just have to hope that the minor radiation that did slip through didn't cause him too much pain...and that he would be able to find the parts to make a purifier of some sort.
Life out here is going to be far more complicated than I thought...
"Shall we?" Axel asked.
"Yes...yes, lead on."
He fell in step behind the more experienced mercenary. When they reached the hotel, he'd have to find some way to work out who was actually in charge between them. So far, Axel was deferring things to him, but that could end at any time, and he needed to keep both the capybara and Gruth on his side. The pair of them were far more knowledgeable about the surface world than he was at this point. Whatever information he had wasn't backed up by experience, while they were used to this.
He would take advice, he would make sure to listen to whatever they had to say, but he needed them to be on his side. One way or another, he'd have to convince them to let him be the one in charge. Whatever they knew about the world, he knew about the Enclave, and he needed to stay one step ahead of them until they left the Capital Wasteland far at their backs and had new allies.
He just had to figure out how to get that to work...
The End
