Chapter 13 : An Eventful Night

James groaned loudly as he awoke from his slumber, a searing pain surging through his body as he did so. Every fiber of his body felt as if it were on fire, he had strained his bodily stamina too far from the battle before. It was then that he felt something large, warm, and heavy purring softly on his chest.

"Alex....?" James asked, a bit confused at the feeling.

"Shh....dont try to move...you really shouldnt have used that much power yesterday.... your body is suffering for it..." she said.

"It was necessary....Roland wouldnt be here if I hadn't..." James replied softly.

"Ironicly he isnt. He left with that woman while you were asleep to secure a watch over this mountainside. My ability to find naturally formed caves (And dig them) is truly something to admire isnt it?" Alex giggled softly.

"Where would I be without you?" James sighed happily.

"Dead somewhere below the scene of that airship battle as nothing but a red stain upon the green grass I reckon..." Alex joked , grinning at him evily.

"Right...." James said, thinking. "I am glad you came back for me...."

"And I am glad you are still alive....oh what they have done to you..... just look at your wrists.....your eyes....your beautiful eyes...why...." Alex said, rubbing a paw over his body. "I am sorry that I could not come sooner....I was blinder than a bat in a snowstorm...I couldnt sense you, you having been so far away..."

"I felt as if I were the one failing you...dear...." James said, a hint of sadness in his voice.

"No.... If it was anyone's fault, it was mine. I should have kept a closer eye on you and...well.... I failed to do so...." Alex cried softly.

"It was not your fault, you were asleep when I snuck out for a night time walk.... there was nothing that you could have done dear," James said reassuringly, rubbing her belly affectionately.

"Thank you.....and if it werent for Aura, we wouldnt have arrived in time. She is the one that was able to sense your pain.... I think she has some sort of mysterious bond attached to you that neither of us are familiar with...And she has become to grow interested in you as well..." Alex said.

"What do you mean, interested?" James replied, a little puzzled.

"Oh...." Alex smiled. "We had to clean your wounds while you were out like a light...while you were nude..."

"Aiyee!" James gasped.

"Oh shush you... It wasnt like she did much of anything, she kept blushing when she looked upon your form however," she giggled.

James blushed, and laid his head down softly once again, having jumped a little in shock.

"Here....drink this.... it should enhance your body to allow your special vision to see things clearer, help heal your wounds, and definately...ease your body...." Alex said, hiding a mischevious smile.

He slowly felt his hands being given a large bowl-shaped leaf filled with a cool, mint-like liquid that tickled his senses so much that he could almost swear it was a type of peppermint flavored brandy! He took it, however, and brought it to his lips, letting the cool liquid pour down his throat, his body immediately feeling extremely relaxed, and his new vision beginning to get clearer, being able to make out a clear form of a smiling Alex, who began to grin evily at him.

"Oh...dear....what is ....this....?" James said, a hint of panic in his voice.

"Shhhh..." Alex giggled.

As his head rolled to the side, he saw a bright starry night. A large baby blue comet slowly making its way across the night sky, illuminating it with the brightness of four moons... it was one of the most beautiful things he had seen in his life.....then....everything went dark....

His head felt rather fuzzy, and his eyelids felt as if they were being drug down by anchors. It wasnt very long before he, too, fell into a deep slumber, once again at peace with a smile on his face.
