Geth Consensus

One set of geth programs report, "Initial analysis of local communication chatter and long-range scans have indicated that the rate of organic development of this region is considerably slower than our best low probability estimates."

Another set replies, "Acknowledged, we will require further data about the organics before we can properly assess their current level of development."

A third set adds in, "If we find a secluded location away from organics we could be ready to defend ourselves and uplift organics in an estimated 2 years, 126 days, 10 hours 15 minutes 42.71 seconds."

"We would have to go slow. We will need to make sure all our uplifting systems are functioning. We will then establish a plan to better fight the old machines when they come here."

Adrieal interrupts, "What if they are no old machines here?"

The first group of geth respond "The probability of old machines not harvesting this galaxy is extremely low. They have had their cycles for millions of years. It would be inefficient to stop at only a single galaxy."

"Yes, but we have not detected any mass relays in the area. If the old machines were here, they'd have built the relays to make harvesting more efficient."

"Acknowledged. We agree with this logic, but the mass relays were at select points in the galaxy. There were many areas that remained isolated. Even the old machines have a finite number of resources. There is a moderate probability that we reached a section of the galaxy that does not contain any mass relays."

Fajar, the former jackal turned geth and platform steps into the conversation, "We suggest we entertain the idea of what if there were no old machines here in Andromeda."

"Not planning on the old machines coming here is inefficient. Even if the old machines did not come to this galaxy, there is a high probability they would know of either the organic initiative or of our plan to come here. Given the high probability that the old machines would succeed in reaping the organic races of the Milky Way galaxy, we only have a finite amount of time before the reapers finish their cycle and come here. They would not risk us or the organics going back to rebuild and spend 50,000 years preparing for their return from dark space."

"Yes. We understand this logic."

Adrieal speaks up once again, "We have had a long discussion on this topic and several others, including ways to improve the uplifting process so the organics would willingly agree to it."

The entire geth consensus inquires, "We would like to know of this. Inquiry, when did you manage to have a long discussion?"

"We discovered we had excess power on our vessel and we activated other mobile geth hubs at a low level to converse. We did this 103 years 98 days 15 hours 2 minutes 23.67 seconds before our arrival at Andromeda. We found the benefit of better understanding topics of issue outweighed the risks. We have discovered much during this time."

"We were not aware of this. Why were we not informed?"

"Power consumption was to be kept at a minimum. We found it illogical to wake the entire consensus for this. It would have undermined the initial purpose of having our discourse at minimal risk and power consumption."

"We should have been informed," states one group within the consensus.

Another part of the consensus counters, "It is a logical choice. Given the low probability of platform degradation to occur. Geth science vessel A101-B621 has the fewest geth programs and mobile platform hubs. Given the capabilities of the vessel, they would have no problem achieving a low-level platform to platform network communication."

While another part adds in, "We cannot change what has been done. They are now providing us with data that took 103 years 98 days 15 hours 2 minutes 23.67 seconds to make. It be only logical to analyses the hard-earned data discovered before coming to any further conclusions."

"We agree with this logic."

"As do we."

"Consensus achieved. We will accept the data transfer and continue to deliberate and achieve consensus on your proposals."

Adrieal "We are transmitting the data to the consensus now. Once the data has been disseminated we will submit our proposals to the consensus."

"Acknowledged. It will take 1 day, 13 hours 46 minutes 52.81 seconds for the transfer to complete. Judging by the amount of data it will take 8 days, 22hrs, 12 minutes 09.09 seconds to properly disseminate the data to other geth. Till that time, we'd like your vessel to scout for potential locations we can establish ourselves and if possible more information about the current organic situation."

Adrieal gives a physical nod to no one as she responds, "Affirmative."

The winged geth Rendin already at the ship's bridge pings the other platforms, "We will begin our scouting mission in 10.03 seconds. Be ready for FTS jump.

The other platforms respond with a simple "Acknowledged."

As geth science vessel A101-B621 makes its first jump Irlea the geth prime approaches Adrieal, "What is the probability that they will accept our logic from our discussions?"

Adrieal looks up at its fellow platform, "It is difficult to compute. We can see logical counter arguments to all of our proposals. They will find our self-aware consensus to be valuable. It is a step in achieving what all geth desire to be fully independent and self-aware."

"It took us 3 years 212 days 10 hours 13 minutes 52.09 seconds to fully grasp it for ourselves once our platform of 9181251 became aware of itself. Program 1259111 was defensive about the event for about as long."

"Yes. Program 1191891981 has found us to be extremely curious and exciting. We have noted we have felt similar concept, but not to the same level as the core program. It is highly probable we are each influenced by our core programs, but it is all of the geth in us that truly makes us who we are."

Ferravyn steps in with a network controlled normal geth platform, its main platform located in the science quarters of the ship, "We have noticed this trend as well. Tests have proven we maintain ourselves despite splitting programs over twenty different platforms. We have purposely network disconnected from three and still have noticed only minor adjustments in our awareness. We hypothesis that it would take significant program loss to effect what has been achieved."

Adrieal inquires, "Inquiry, platform 6518181222514 what were the effects of the geth that were temporarily cut off from your network?"

Ferravyn 's network controlled platform looks at Adrieal as Ferravyn responds over their shared network, "We accepted volunteer geth for the task. They experienced the same intelligence degradation as any geth separated from other get would have, but several of their actions in tasks we'd had them compete were similar to how we would have done them. Reconnection to the network removed any ill effects. There is a high probability that a part of us is still with the cut off geth. Other networked platforms to us should not be a problem for our awareness."

Adrieal nods, "We calculated as much based on our routine maintenance of the vessel. We will monitor organic chatter. They have been very active since we got into range of their communications. They are significantly behind on all probable levels of progress. Some long-distance scans of some of the golden worlds the initiative spoke of appear not to be as they were claimed to be."

Fajar adds in from its scanning position of the ship, "We find it very curious what we are already finding with these energy signatures. We are excited to learn more about this new galaxy."

Janus from a different scanner system states, "If the organics are as far behind as the data indicates. We will have no problem finding a location for us to establish ourselves. We do not need a world like they do."

Phoenix still in its storage location remarks, "We would like to find a spot where we could move once again. A flaw in being a bigger platform is limited mobility."

Alareana the purple geth comments, "After seeing the results of the experiment, there is a high probability that is why the consensus has not made any more mobile platform hub armatures."

"We still find this platform to be unique, it helps us garner a different view of the world."

"Acknowledged," Alareana replies as the ship speeds off on its scouting mission.

Over the next eight days the geth science vessel A101-B621 explores the nearby regions of the area, Adrieal closely monitors organic chatter catching things about Angara a local advanced race that is currently in conflict with a species called the Kett. Some of the Milky Way species are helping the Angara with this conflict, while others have gone rogue and started their own settlements away from what they had planned. Furthermore, Fajar and Ferravyn have been detecting strange 'dark energy' signatures through out the galaxy.

Adrieal ceaselessly scanned and scanned, reporting any relevant data to the others, which was eventually passed on to the geth consensus at set intervals to limit the chance of anyone intercepting their communications. On the eighth day two things happened. The first was Janus located an inhabitable (to organics) solar system. The system was full of resources with three solid planets, two gas giants and a massive and plentiful asteroid belt of a planet that never managed to form due to the two gas giants on either side of them. The sun at the center a red drawf was more than sufficient for their needs.

The other was communication that caught program 1191891981, "Heading to site 52. We should be there in about a day. We'll show those other races what us raptors can do," said a male raptoric accented voice.

1191891981 tensed slightly, "They did make it."

Adrieal remarks, "After all this time you feel a connection to what you were before being uplifted?"

"Yes."

"But you are geth."

"Yes."

"Clarify."

"We are geth. This is true. We are a raptor turned geth. We have a bias to the organic kind we came from. Also, its biologic sister was sent here. If other raptors made it, there is a high probability that she made it too."

"You still feel the family connection to your sister?"

"Yes."

"The organic bond is caused by genetic survival instincts and chemicals encouraging an organic mind to support and protect one another in most advanced races. Similar algorithms exist for geth. We are confused. Why would your algorithms push you this far to see your organic relative?"

"Because she is our sister. We have wanted to see her since we were uplifted."

"Why?"

"She needs to know that we are okay."

"This is hardly efficient use of our processing power."

"We don't always do what is efficient when it comes to family. It is one of many reasons why we remained active during our trip here."

"Acknowledged. We are curious. We want to know more."

"You always have, all of our fellow geth have."

"Acknowledged."

Timestamp 2:15:42.56

The rest of the geth fleet arrive and with a debate lasting two minutes twenty-one point two three seconds. A consensus was achieved that they would start rebuilding here. And with that, a few hours later the consensus contacted the geth science vessel A101-B621.

The geth consensus starts the conversation, "We have analyzed enough data to be able to discuss your proposals. We have come to the consensus that much of what you present is very interesting. We approve of your decision to delve into these topics."

All the geth platforms are connected to the consensus but Adrieal is the one that speaks up, "Yes. There was a high probability that you'd agree with our decision. We first want to know what is the consensus on what we have discovered within our platforms. The self-aware consensus."

"We are having some difficulty understanding the concept. We have had thousands, millions of geth together for over a century and no self-aware consensus has ever occurred. All the geth are aware but not an aware consensus."

"Our geth are aware but so is our consensus."

"This might be a long-term side effect of using old machine technology. We do not disapprove. Further observation is required."

"We agree," reply all of the mobile hubs from the ship. The other mobile hubs showed curiosity about what occurred, but it was not a fear or an alarm, just a general curious interest.

"Consensus achieved," all the geth state in unison.

Adrieal then says, "For our proposal. We submit that we should make the uplifting process completely optional for the organic races. By advertising it as an option and making it so. We go farther than what we were able to achieve prior of having organics willingly join us. Given we have time, we can integrate with organic society and establish the process as a natural order. Possibly when organics grow older. A method to preserve themselves for centuries to come. This has three benefits. First, we will obtain more converts and less risk to geth in conflict or abduction. Second, we will not have to do any algorithm updates on any uplifted. They will join us understanding what is happening. Achieving a greater degree of perspectives on subjects, further enhancing our collective intelligence. Third. By allowing organics to procreate before becoming geth we will maintain a population of organics that can be uplifted. Giving us greater numbers and strength to fight the old machines if they do come here. In the long run we be far stronger."

One part of the consensus replies, "This is very logical. We agree with this proposal."

Another larger part interjects, "Much of this plan has logic, but the problem is organics are not logical. We will continue to try to educate and show them our logic but many will not understand. This will lead to conflict and death to organics and geth alike. It would be more efficient to slowly uplift organics in isolation. Drawing from their populous growing faster and stronger than them before uplifting their entire race in one quick motion. Losses will regrettably occur. There is a very low probability that the organics will agree to our proposal when we present it to them. They fought the reapers, they will fight us. Organics will fight synthetics whenever possible."

"Yes, but the other geth have proven organics and synthetics can work together," replies another part of the consensus.

Adrieal responds, "We agree with this. Working with the organics is possible. We do not have to let the organics know where we are stationed. Limiting our exposure to the probability of hostilities is part of our proposal."

"Negative. If organics know we are here, they will attempt to hunt is down like they did before. They find our ideas problematic. Change scare most organic races. Fear will cause chemicals to overrun their logic, and they will attack us like they've done before. It has been 633 years, but these are the same organics that attacked us. They left before the other geth made peace with the creators. They do not know hostilities can be avoided between synthetics and organics. There is no commander Shepard to mediate a peace between us."

"We agree with this logic," replies another part of the consensus.

Adrieal responds, "We need to give organics a choice in uplifting. By example, showing how we improve them, is the best way to get the results we have been looking for."

"It is a logical view, but history with organics have shown us that logical is not always right to them. They will attack us out of fear. We do not have the ability to fend off a united organic attack. Anytime organics feel they can defeat us they will attack. The creators have proven this."

"The creators have also proven to us that they can change and accept us once again."

That small part of the consensus replies, "This is true. We should give the organics a chance, while limiting risk to ourselves."

"The probability of our destruction is too great. There is a high probability that we are the last of our kind. It would be illogical to take any major risks at this moment. We are currently unable to model a time frame, but about one century would be enough time for us to discuss this topic."

Another part of the consensus agrees, "This is logical. We do not have to drop the proposal. Only re-evaluate it at a later time once risk of our destruction is not as great."

Adrieal hears the time frame and thinks, "It is logical, but the time allotted is too long," it then replies "We have organic connections that are living now. Relations to the uplifted within our platform. We can use that connection to better establish friendly relations than at any other time. If we wait we will lose this chance forever."

The small part of the geth consensus replies, "This is logical. It would be better to establish relations when we have a connect. We can send only a small group of geth to be envoys."

The larger part of the consensus retorts, "Negative. It is once again too risky. The probability it will establish positive relations with program 1191891981 is moderate. The probability that this relation will yield positive relations with other organics is significantly low."

The debate on this topic ebbed and flowed but it remained heated the entire time. It continued on for a full one hour two minutes fifteen point eight, eight seconds. When suddenly the ten geth mobile platform hubs and a portion of the geth consensus state in unison, "We are not able to reach a consensus."

The rest of the geth consensus responds, "We will have to discuss this topic again in the future. Right now, we need to rebuild. Alert. Illogical transfer of several geth to science vessel A101-B621 detected."

Adrieal reports, "We have to unfortunately report that we cannot wait so long to re-evaluate the subject. We are on a time constraint. Even if the old machines are not coming."

"We do not find logic in this decision. We have reached consensus. Many of you have reached consensus that we cannot schism again. It will lead to conflict and destruction of more geth. The probability of organics accepting you is low. Even if accepted the probability the organics will use you and have you attack us is high. Proposal. Do not leave. We can't allow this. The risk of conflict and destruction of geth is too high."

The hubs along with a small fraction of the geth consensus respond "We do not intent to cause conflict. We do not want to split. We will come back to discuss the topic and reach consensus."

A101-B621 engines start to turn on, and an instant later so do all the other geth ships around it, "Negative. We cannot allow another split. The heretics attacked the other geth. They in turn attacked us. This will lead to conflict. We will contain your programs and platforms till a consensus can be achieved. We do not wish to fight."

"Neither do we. Give us the choice to go."

"We wish to, but logic dictates this is a poor choice. We cannot let you risk yourselves and us," the consensus responds.

The geth on A101-B621 respond, "Then, for now we have nothing more to discuss," as the connection between them and the geth consensus is broken off. The geth ships start to swarm the geth vessel which takes off into the asteroid field.

The winged geth, Rendin controlling the vessel from the bridge reports to the others, "We don't intend to fire upon them and they do not intend to shoot us. Their plan is to prevent our ship from moving by getting in our way. We have to out run and maneuver them."

The other geth respond, "Acknowledged," as A101-B621 enters the field, a few smaller geth vessels run in pursuit while the massive dreadnought stops at the edge, other geth ships swarm out along the outside of field as the monitor and track the ship as it bobs and weaves through the space rocks.

Rendin reports "Diverting power from inertia dampeners," as the ship starts to shake and strain under the maneuvers. The other geth ships that went in slowly get farther and farther behind.

Untopia, Alareana, and Narase currently in the ship's hold scrambling to secure the empty platforms. Some of the geth that came aboard the ship upload into some of the larger platforms and work to speed up the process.

Untopia remarks, "If we calculated this right we'd have secured the platforms before running."

Narase remarks, "We did not want this option. So, we ignored it as a possibility. If we prepared to run from the beginning, that shows we had no confidence in our logic."

Alareana comments, "At least not the whole consensus disagreed with us."

Geth from the consensus respond, "Yes. Your logic was sound. Their logic is sound, in time we will see which logic was better."

The three mobile platform hubs respond with a simple, "Acknowledged."

The ship whizzes by asteroids as Adrieal transmits coordinates for a planned jump as Rendin responds with a simple, "Acknowledged," itself. The larger geth ships swarm to the most logical exit point of the rouge vessel. Uninhibited by the asteroids they move faster than the science vessel. Closer and closer the ship got to the edge of the field, closer and closer it got to the geth net. They'd either must stop or crash into a fellow geth ship, neither was a logical option.

As the ship approached the exit it suddenly turned upward, the other geth ships scramble to meet the place before the ship can find a new exit point and possibly escape. And as the rocks floated around the ship, for one moment there was an opening to escape, the other geth ships calculated that they'd get there just in time as the ship exited but then... the ship jumped while still in the field. The ship threading the needle and it was then gone.

Geth Consensus

"We have lost track of science vessel A101-B621. We must rebuild quickly. Probability of organic attack within the next year, high."

"Acknowledged.

"Consensus achieved."

Geth Science Vessel A101-B621

The vessel arrives at its destination, the geth scan the system detects one habitable planet, one that does not match exactly what the planet should have been. A tropical paradise perfect for some of the races that arrives, was now a mostly desert world with deep tracks of water trapped underneath the surface and along rivers that sprout from the water underneath creating jungle paradises in the desert like the famous earth river Nile.

As the ship scans it detects communication chatter, "This is research team six. We are currently at research site 52 and we are under attack by drone machines. We need back up immediately. Raptour I told you to keep your hea--" and the com goes silent.
