New Life, New Problems: Chapter 2
#2 of New Life, New Problems
A new Life
Skye, Alex and Spencer stepped out of their Limo, looking at the huge police station in front of them.
"What are we going to say to our parents when we walk through those doors?" Alex asked, looking at the building in front of them.
"I don't know, but that's why we all agreed to meet here instead of at our individual houses, so we can do it together." Skye replied.
Spencer spoke up, "Well the other group is going to meet their parents at city hall, they want to keep it public incase things go down hill."
"Yeah I know, were going to have to be careful now with using our morphs and elements." Alex reminded, "Cause we don't want to expose ourselves too soon."
"I know, but let's get this over with." Spencer gestured to the front doors, "Our parents should all be standing together."
Skye, Alex and Spencer walked up to the doors of the police HQ, "Ready?" Alex asked.
"Yeah, let's go." Skye replied opening the door.
As they walked in, several officers looked at them, some looking amazed and others stunned that these three boys were still alive.
As they looked around, Skye noticed posters on the walls, showing the three of them and the rest of the group on a local kid find page, each one with their personal information posted and their descriptions.
Just as they were approaching the main desk they were swept aside into another room, where they were confronted by their parents and several officers.
"Skye!" "Skye!" "It is you!" a woman yelled, running up to him and hugging him.
The same happened when the others in the crowd turned and ran up to Spencer and Alex.
About half an hour later...
"It's really great to see you all but I have a few questions for you." One of the officers interrupted.
"Can't this wait?" their parents asked, "We only just got them back."
"It's ok mom." The three of them confessed.
The officer led them into another room, one by one.
A few minutes passed with each one before they were released.
They all emerged and walked back to their parents.
"What'd they ask you?" Spencer's mom asked.
"Not much a few questions, I..." Spencer was cut off by a beeping noise coming from his pocket.
Spencer and the others pulled out a small PDA, which was glowing red and flashing trouble.
"What are those?" Their parents asked, "When did you get them?"
"Skye, go ahead."
A few seconds passed before he tapped his com on his ear, "We have to go."
"We've gotta go, ready?"
"Yeah, let's do it." Spencer and Alex agreed.
Skye opened the com again, "We're on our way."
They turned to leave, "Where do you think you're going guys?" Their parents joined.
"We have to go, we'll be back after." Spencer replied before opening the door.
They walked outside and down the main stairwell, their parents chasing them as they went.
Outside the traffic had been stopped as a helicopter had landed in the parking lot in front of them.
"What'd that doing here?" Their parents asked a police officer.
"We don't know but there's nothing we can do they wont respond to us." He replied.
Skye and the others walked towards the copter as they turned back to their parents before making a brief nod and stepping up to the open door.
Alex looked at Skye and Spencer before turning away from the copter and facing the crowd.
All three of them thrust their hands outwards across the screens of the PDA's which caused a bright white light to erupt from them. Their parents could only watch as a metallic alloy ran up both arms and down their bodies. The alloy then touched the ground and immediately disappeared; leaving the three of them standing in a spandex like armor which was covering every aspect of them and a helmet on their heads hid them from view.
"What the hell just happened?" Skye's mom yelled.
The police suddenly charged at them, shooting their side arms.
"What the hell are you doing, those are our kids!!" their parents yelled as the bullets raced at them.
The bullets bounced harmlessly off the shining silver amour. Skye and the others turned made a brief salute to someone inside the copter and boarded. Seconds later the helicopter's blades began spinning faster and they took off.
- Promotions and team building
"Thanks for picking us up Sgt." Alex nodded to the tall man in front of them.
"I'm going to guess by that display of bullets that the police won't take your morph forms any better.
"Well it's only our first day actually back in the city; even we were surprised that we had already gotten involved in the military." Skye glanced back.
"Well we had to rush a few things, it was a little more urgent that we get you back with the rest of your division, there's been an accident." Sgt. Blake spoke up.
"What kind?" Spencer inquired.
"We will have to wait for the briefing; I was just instructed to bring you guys in." Blake motioned to the monitor on the wall which switched from an emblem to a face.
"General. Williams," Skye Alex and Spencer snapped a quick salute.
"At ease guys," the man replied.
"What's the emergency?" Spencer asked.
"We can't tell you here, it will be held in room 25A." General Williams, face disappeared and the emblem re appeared.
"So, briefing room 25A, got it guys?" Skye looked to his fellow soldiers.
"Got it." They replied.
"Wow, you guys didn't take that long to switch into your new military chain of commands and such." Sgt. Blake replied.
"No sir, we just had to pay attention." Skye replied.
"That's true; you guys did listen well at the quick immersion program." Blake replied.
Their com signals cracked, "Sir approaching destination, ETA 1 minute." The pilot informed.
The helicopter landed on the designated landing pad, Skye Alex and Spencer hopped out and walked into the base.
They ran straight into Simon, Steven and Troy who were on the way to the briefing room.
"Hey guys," Simon snapped quickly before he returned to his pace and walked towards room 25A.
The doors to 25A were huge, wide enough and tall enough to fit a large plane, with room to spare.
"They really have been busy getting this room ready for us." Steven grinned.
They all stepped up to the wall, as six finger print scanners emerged from it, along a small opening for the left hand to go in. Once inside it pricked the palm of the hand and compared the blood drawn to the sample on file.
After each member had put in their password and had been scanned the doors started to slide open.
They were greeted by the bases AI, "Welcome Black and Red teams."
"Thanks Becka," Skye and Troy replied as they lead their teams in.
Once inside they sat down at a massive military styled table and faced the second table where the brass would soon be sitting.
A few minutes later the entire brass walked into the room via a smaller door then what Skye and the others had entered through on the opposite wall.
Alex and the others immediately snapped to attention, until the brass had taken a seat.
"At ease." They responded.
Spencer and the rest sat as one.
One particularly tall man stood up in front of them all, "First off, I'd like to welcome you to your first briefing and meeting with all of the brass; he gestured to the rest of the military leaders.
"I personally am amazed since we met you while you were flying into Toronto that you all have picked up the proper military etiquette that for many took years in a short week." The man spoke up.
"Now, our first order of business is to fully invest you all into the air force, the highest 'cadet' division that we can publicly disclose." The man concluded, before the rest of the brass stood up.
Skye and the others all immediately snapped to attention as saluted them, "Sir."
"At ease men," the brass' voices echoed across the room.
Troy and the others dropped their hand behind their backs and separated their legs slightly.
"Initiate Skye and Troy, front and center." The woman next to the last man spoke.
Becka appeared on the holo-pad beside them, her slim body perfectly proportional to her smooth calm face, and blonde hair with green eyes.
"It is my pleasure, the lady continued, to promote you two to the rank of Lieutenant Cornel." She spoke.
The colour party in the room approached them, adding the correct applets and badges to their uniforms and handing them a separate dress uniform with the Canadian flag imbued upon the collar.
"You may be seated." She replied, as the man beside her stood up.
"Alex and initiate Simon, front and center," he bellowed.
They got up and followed the same procedure as Skye and Troy had.
"I am pleased to promote you two to the rank of Major." He smiled.
Once again the colour party came up and changed their uniforms etc.
"You may be seated." The man replied.
Next the middle man stood up, "Initiate Steven and Spencer forward." He shouted.
They approached, "It is with my pleasure that I promote you both to the rank of major as well." He grinned, as the colour party once again did their job.
Steven and Spencer smiled as they sat down at the table with the others.
Finally the last man stood up, General Williams.
"It is time to split your group up into teams, I will be deciding them now." He addressed sternly.
"Lieutenant Cornel Skye and Troy forwards." He shouted.
Skye and Troy got up and faced him.
"Turn around to your fellow crew." Williams instructed.
They followed, facing Steven, Simon, Alex and Spencer.
"The following decisions are final and will not be available for re-appeal until such a time I deem it necessary." General Williams explained.
"When your name is called, please step up to your new team leader and salute him." Williams instructed.
"To be in Lieutenant Cornel Skye's squadron, Majors Alex, and Simon." Williams started, "And Major Steven and Spencer in Lieutenant Cornel Troy's."
Skye's heart sank along with Alex's they had lost Spencer to Troy's squad, "not that he will be miss-treated but he would be missed." they thought.
The four stepped up to their team leaders and snapped a crisp salute before they returned to the at ease stance.
"Lieutenant Cornel Skye," Williams addressed.
"Yes sir." He replied,
"Your team is going to be called Black team, from now on." Williams concluded.
"Lieutenant Cornel Troy." Williams addressed.
"Yes sir." Troy replied.
"Your team from now on is Red team, understood?"
"Sir, yes sir!" Troy replied.
"Very well then, you all are free to go, we will meet again at 15:00 hours sharp for the mission briefing." General Williams closed the meeting and showed Skye and the others out.
15:00 hours...
Skye and the rest of his team walk into the briefing room several hours later.
"I wonder what our mission is?" Simon asked.
"I don't know, but it has to be big for such a wait." Alex replied.
Once inside the room once more, General Williams is standing in front of them.
"Welcome back Black team, once red gets here we will begin." Williams greeted,
A few minutes later red team walked through the doors, and took a seat beside black team.
"You're late!" Williams snapped.
"Sorry about that boss." Troy replied.
"That's insubordination cornel!" Williams shouted, "And I won't have it."
"You and your team will go run the drill course after your mission, and you've just given up your dinner." Williams snapped.
Skye looked at Spencer, who looked utterly shocked; he'd have never gotten in trouble like this if he had been in Skye's team.
"Now to get you on the mission." Williams began, "At approximately 03:00 hours this morning, we received word that our own military's program for the morph study had a break out." "It seems that someone who was willingly a member of the test group went insane during testing and escaped, he is a threat to not only this security of this facility but it is also one to the general public." Williams continued.
"This means that your mission is to bring these two rogue morphs back to us." "Black team will take one and red the other." Williams pointed to a holo-pad where Becka appeared, "As many of you know, this is Becka, she is Black team's AI and this," Williams gestured to another pad where a ninja appeared is, Shade, he is Red teams AI."
"They will accompany you on this mission, we have set up a procedure for them to merge with their team leaders' minds, this procedure will be conducted immediately and you will go after these two problems we have." Williams finished.
"Sir," They all snapped a crisp salute before departing for the armory.
Troy and Skye re-appeared several minutes later a small scar in their temples.
"Black team," Skye called.
"Sir?" they replied.
"Grab our pre-readied gear, we're moving out." Skye commanded.
"Sir, yes sir." They were ready to leave in 5 minutes.
Black team boarded the helicopter and was off.
"Red team," Troy commanded,
This was all that Skye could hear before they were out of earshot.
"So boss man, what is our target?" Alex joked.
"We have to takeout a man named, Rako." Skye replied, "Here are the data pads."
Skye passed the data pads around.
"So this guy's main ability is, morphing into a phoenix bird, and he can control the weather." Simon briefed.
"All right that means that we'll need to equip our battle armor with electrical resistance." Alex said, making the adjustments, to their suites.
"Ok we have his position here, we just need to land." Alex remarked.
The com signal cracked, "Sir, we are going to have to make a hot drop, the weather's getting worse and there has been several attacks on us already." The com dropped as the helicopter shock, briefly before exploding.
Skye and Alex quickly grabbed their gear with Simon, as they began to fall from the sky amongst the wreckage 1000ft in the air.
Two balls of fire suddenly blossomed from Skye and Alex as they morphed. The two dragons emerging and flapping their wings; they looked for their pilot but he was no where to be seen
Skye grabbed Simon, and Alex grabbed the gear as they began to fly towards the ground, setting Simon down before looking around for Rako.
Simon quickly morphed into his unicorn form and started to summon molten metal around him.
Skye and Alex were flying circles around Simon as he prepped, when Alex noticed it.
A man was running towards Simon, holding a gun in his hand.
"Simon look out, 5 o'clock." Alex shouted.
Simon turned just in time to receive a dart in his chest, he suddenly felt, weak.
As Alex began to dive towards the unicorn Simon de-morphed back to human form.
Rako was surprisingly quicker at running then Alex's dive was, as he grabbed Simon's limp body and began running away.
"Simon!" Skye yelled, as he shot a ball of fire at Rako, who merely thrust his hand out and shot the ball back at Skye.
Suddenly Rako began to glow, as red rings burst from his hands and feet, and began to slide across him.
"He's morphing!" Alex shouted, "I thought our info sad he has already done it once."
"It does!" Skye shouted as he began to dive at the morphing man.
The rings suddenly reached Simon's body, his fire mixing with Rako's.
"Simons going to gain Rako's morph." Alex warned.
"I know, and that's not what I'm worried about!" Skye roared, "It's him gaining Simon's."
The rings rushed across the two bodies as their morph essences crossed, before Simon fell limp to the ground and Rako emerged as a non-anthro phoenix.
Alex dove as well at Rako while Skye grabbed Simon's lifeless body.
"Simon, wake up!" Skye yelled, "This isn't the time to sleep."
Simon groaned as he awoke, his body beginning to glow red.
"What's going on?" Simon asked.
"You're cross morphing, like how Alex and I can morph into each others forms." Skye explained as he let go of Simon, allowing him to free fall towards the ground.
A second later a small sun blossomed above the ground where Simon had been.
In his place was now an anthro grey/silver phoenix, it had three long tails which were adorned by a single blue feather each.
Simon's eyes were now a piercing blue which matched his wings which were silver across the rimming and deep blue for the rest of the feathers.
Simon arced his back and let loose a fierce cry before he rushed at Rako; shooting a massive ball of molten metal and fire at him.
Alex and Skye followed suite shooting white and black streaks of fire at him.
Rako turned around just in time to meet all three attacks face on. Through the mixing flames, Skye and Alex noticed that a good half of the attacks phased right through him.
Simon however was already behind Rako and shot a blob of molten rock and metal at him from pointblank range.
The mixture stuck to the phoenix and roars and screams of pain could be heard. Seconds later the rock and metal cooled, and the smoldering feathers of Rako became visible, the morph panting and trying to hold back the pain.
The phoenix dove towards the ground, followed quickly by Simon, he flew towards an oil refinery.
"Simon be careful in there!" Alex shouted, noticing Rako's plan.
The morph flew directly into the heart of the factories outside portion standing next to
several large propane, oil and gas fume containers.
"Give up Rako, we have you now!" Simon shouted.
"Yeah right, you have me alright, but see if you actually live to tell anyone about it!" Rako shot a superheated burst of flames at the containers, which erupted in a massive explosion.
From Skye and Alex's location, a second sun bloomed on the horizon as the superheated fumes and flames ballooned into the sky.
"Simon!" they yelled flying at the explosion.
They were hit by a sonic boom; the explosion had caused which knocked them off course temporarily.
"Wow that was bad to have actually created a sonic boom!" Alex commented.
"I know, let's hurry up we have to see what's happened." Skye replied.
Skye and Alex landed; the heat from the refinery's causing even their dragon's scales to warm to an uncomfortable heat.
"There he is!" Skye yelled flying over to him, Alex to Rako.
Simon was lying on the ground, his morph form glowed blue for a second before he reverted to his human form, the heat immediately beginning to burn him.
"Simon, hold on, I've got you!" Skye yelled using his morph form to block the heat as he carried Simon out of the inferno.
"I've got Rako," Alex commented as they landed several hundred feet away, the heat of the fire still reaching them.
Skye set Simon down, only then to realize he had a massive shard of glass protruding from his chest.
"Simon, hold on help is coming!" Skye shouted as Alex looked at the wounds as well.
Skye and Alex both concentrated, using their morphs strength to heal some of the surrounding wounds; however, they efforts were un-effective against the chest wound.
Alex keyed his com again, "This is black team, requesting immediate extraction, multiple casualties!"
"This is extraction team black hawk, we're coming for you Black team, our ETA is 1 minute." The com cracked.
The helicopter landed beside the morphs, Skye and Alex morphed back to their human forms, the injuries they sustained from the heat evident on their bodies.
"Just hold on guys, we'll be back at base in 10 minutes." The pilot reassured, and base knows of our situation.
Minutes later they landed at the base, several medical teams standing by; they lowered Simon to the ground and attempted to get Skye and Alex on a stretcher as well.
"We're fine, help Simon!" Skye and Alex reassured.
"We..." Skye started, however, as they took a step forwards both Skye and Alex collapsed.
The horizon and the sky around them seemed to fade from their vision as several First Responders rushed to their side.
