Chapter 17: How It Started

By: Mirron Tenshi

Soon after an injured Roy and a bewildered Moline had retreated away from the group, the plane to Miami was boarding. Everyone around was still startled at what had taken place, and were still curious about the details and circumstances, but had decided to just keep looking towards their own direction for the sake of decency.

When their flight was called, Bill, Scott, Mark, and Jason got up and went in line to board the plane. When they have entered the plane, Bill and Scott found their seats, and Mark and Jason were seated behind them. Jason took the window seat while his fox sat in the next seat. Before long, everyone had gotten to their seats.

Jason glanced, and noticed that he and Mark were getting a few weird and possibly unwanted looks. His paw trembled a little, deciding whether or not to take his paw away from Mark. His father and mother's hatred was still resonating inside his mind. He wasn't sure if Mark was feeling the same thing; despite that his living condition has worked out for the better, his prohibited side was still regretting his secret from ever being discovered - sure, he was taken in by his boyfriend's home, but it took his heart to be beaten half to death by his own parents to happen. Mark's case was different - he's always lived in a gay-friendly house. The secret that Jason used to work so hard to cover up was now open for all to see; there's no turning back now, nor were there ever was, all that time ago . . .

"Over here! I'm open!" A brown and white husky in a sports tank and shorts was waving his arms for his buddies to throw the basketball to him. The coyote bounded the orange ball as he ran, whirling around a zebra, and shooting the ball to the husky. During lunch, Jason, David, Kyle, and Carlos was playing a 2-on-2 game of hoops after having their meals at lunch.

While the group played their game, a slim, light orange fox was following his eyes on the husky. He was sitting at a lunch table, resting his head on his paw. The active canine looked so . . . Heck, he didn't know how to describe it.

The way the loose-fitting jersey fit his torso . . . The muscles flexing on his arms and legs as he makes a dash with the ball . . . The beads of sweat making him just seem more . . . Manlier.

Mark just . . . He liked him. Maybe he was just falling for looks, but the fox has seen him around; mostly quiet, sometimes something of a loner, like he just prefers being by himself. A lot of times, Mark wanted go up to him and hang out with Jason. But he was too shy, he would just chicken out to even approach him. The guy just made him blush.

The fox already knew he was into guys, and he has been open about it, and he had eyes for Jason. Sure, there were other guys that looked hunky, but Mark was more partial to particularly Jason. He just wanted to come up to him and just say he liked him. But how would he go about doing that . . . ?

"?" Carlos looked and gave a smirk, "Hey, Jase," The zebra said as he tapped the husky's arm. "Dat fag fox checkin' you out, man." Jason looked and confirmed that the vulpine was looking over at him. "Whuddya say we trip him up, eh?"

"Nah, I'm not into that," The sweaty husky panted. He's seen that fox around, and didn't really think much on the matter, though this is the first he's heard of him being ogled. He looked and sure enough, the fox glanced to something else.

"Yo, he wants you, man." The husky smirked as the cougar swerved and took the ball.

"C'mon Kyle!" Jason said before he went onto the offense.

Mark was blushing - he was caught looking at Jason. He knew that zebra wasn't a fan of gay guys, that much he knew. What about Jason though? How does he feel about homos? Mark was starting wonder if he might even be able to turn him . . .

"Hiya Marky!" Mark jumped when one of his friends came up next to him. It was Stacey, a cocker spaniel who had pink dye streaks in her head fur.

"H-Hi Stacey."

"You look all distracty, Mark. What's up?" The fox partially liked Stacey, but also held something on her. She was nice, awesome, liked by a lot of furs, but there was a problem: she was Jason's girlfriend. Knowing that, however, didn't stop Mark from trying to figure a way to have him.

"Well . . . There's this guy . . ."

"Awww! You got a boyfriend?! What's he like? What is he?! Have I met him?!"

"Wait, wait, wait!" Mark said. "No, I don't have a boyfriend. It's just someone that I really like . . ." The fox trailed off, him blushing a little more. "I just don't know how to approach him."

"Why don't you just go up to him and ask him?" The spaniel suggested.

"That won't work."

"Why not? If he's into guys, he'll say yes, and if he's not, he's just not interested."

"And if he's a hater, he'll punch me."

"Owh, now, you're not thinking, posi-tive-ly." She said in a business tone, "Now, you just go up to him, and just ask him out." Mark just stared at her.

"Um . . . Then what?"

"How should I know? You're the one who's coming up to him." The fox scoffed at her.

"You're the one who put me in front of him!"

"Ugh, fiiiiiine. Then here's what you do: Kiss him."

"Stacey . . . What?" He looked at her with a weird look.

"Hey, you asked." Mark chuckled as he shook his head.

"So I guess that's what YOU did, eh?"

"Mm, not really." Stacey said

"Pft! Jeez, girl, you crazy!"

"Hey! I got a boyfriend here. Who's the crazy one now, fox?" The vulpine sighed as he contemplated what he should do. Jason was already taken - what point is there in pursuing him? Mark didn't know why, but he felt like, Jason just HAD to be the one. But if he's straight, then there's no way. Could he be bi? That's a bleak possibility, but even if he is bisexual, he's still going out with Stacey. Right now, his only option of action is to take the risk of letting Jason know that he likes him.

"Um, helllooo? You still in there, Marky?" The fox blinked before he nodded.

"Y-Yeah . . . I'm still here." She smirked.

"You sure 'bout that?" Mark sighed as he got up and picked his backpack up. "Wait, Mark, I'm sorry." Stacey said quickly, thinking that she might've offended him. Mark gave her a smile.

"It's fine, Stacey. I just need some time to think about it." The spaniel's ears lowered a little, hoping that she didn't make him mad; she knew Mark was distracted with this, and honestly, she hardly knows what kind of advice to give in a situation such as Mark's . . .

Later in the week, few hours after school had just ended for the week, Jason was just getting out of football tryouts. He was confident that he made the cut; his father's been really cranking on his training before applying for the team. The football coach was impressed by how consistent the husky's coordination is with his quick movements, able to make split decisions in play.

After changing into his casual clothing, the husky slung his pack and was making his way down the sidewalk.

As the husky was approaching, Mark's heart was going insane. After a few days to think, Mark couldn't think of any other way to let Jason know how he felt other than to just come on out and tell him.

He was so focused on this he nearly forgot his goal. Mark gasped quietly when he realized that the canine had already passed him. He cleared his throat and called, "H-He-Hey! Jason?" The husky's left ear rotated, and he turned around.

"Huh? Oh hey." He then came to the vulpine. "Um . . . Mark, right?" The fox felt himself trembling head to foot, his stomach full of all species of butterflies, looking up at the taller canine. ". . . Was there something you needed?"

"Wha-What now?"

"What do you want?"

"I . . . Um, I need to uh . . . Talk to you for a minute . . . O-Over there . . ." The fox said as he turned and started walking. Curious, the brown husky just shrugged and followed him. He was hardly noticing that the fox was shaking - Mark was shaking so bad he could hardly walk.

The fox lead the other male to somewhere where he knew they'd have a little privacy. Mark then turned back, and faced him. Jason was just in a grey tank top, wearing his gym shorts, and a few beads of drying sweat matted in his fur.

"So . . . What do you need?" The fox gulped and looked up.

"Ja-Jason . . . I was uh . . . I'm . . . I kinda was . . ." Jason tilted his head as the fox stammered. After several minutes of the fox trying to talk, the husky decided he needed to get home.

"Look, can we talk later? My dad has me on a strict curfew." When the husky turned, the fox grabbed his arm.

"Wait!" Jason huffed impatiently before he turned back.

"What is it?" Mark suddenly acted on sheer impulse. With just a glance of a thought, he moved his muzzled up, and pressed his lips onto the Jason's. The fox tensed his body in order to brace himself for a sudden attack. However, nothing like a punch happened after 10 seconds of the kiss.

Jason's eyes were wide open. He stood there in shock as the other male's lips kissed his own. His body felt numb as the moment seemed to drag on for ages.

Despite the husky's misperception of time, the kiss had parted almost as soon as it had started. The vulpine looked the other straight in the eye. He opened his mouth and spoke. "I . . . I like you, Jason . . . I've always have ever since I first saw you . . . And I know you have a girlfriend . . . I just-"

"No . . ." The husky muttered. A look of utmost fear appeared on his face. "This . . ." He took a step back, "I can't . . ." Jason took another step back.

"Wait . . . Jason . . . I'm-" Before Mark could do anything, Jason backed off.

"No!" The husky turned on his heel and ran. The canine sprinted as fast as he could, leaving the fox right there, where it happened.
