Part three: Randel's Problem
"Subject One, if you don't come out then I'm going to come in and drag you out myself!" Jason screamed at the door, no reply. He chambered a round in his Beretta and mentally counted to three before giving the door a solid kick. Jason was glad he didn't have to be silent, he hated it. George spinned a story about a possible rabid animal in the park and now there where cops blocking the streets all round the park.
With a loud snap the door broke off it's old hinges, hitting the floor with an equally loud crash, the lights where off and Frost fished a flashlight out of his tactical vest while stepping into the shack. With a click the bright light illuminated old shelves, rusted equipment and a nasty-looking bed with it's pillow and sheet strewn across the floor but the subject didn't seem to be in the room. It was only when Jason noticed the open window did he become angry and fish the Tracker from his back pocket and pushed the "ON" button.
Jason starred at the device as the screen flickered to life and the red dot that showed his target pinged on the screen. Subject One was on the move and moving fast too. Something must of been wrong with the Tracker because it showed the Subject moving Fourty-Five miles per hour and already to far to run after. Cursing inwordly Jason slammed his clenched fist against the side of the shack, making a small dent and went out to report that he lost the Subject.
Randel thought he was a goner, Jason was pounding on the door, the sounds of the gunshots that killed his dad were echoing in his brain. He wanted to hide under the covers but Lin opened a window in the back and had grabbed his paw,
"Come on! We gotta go!" She said, in a whispered voice, Randel only had time to grab his backpack when she yanked him up and out the window. He was sure he was running before his feet even hit the ground with Lin right by his side, still holding his paw, there was a muffled shouting from whoever was pounding on the door and then a loud crashing sound as the door was kicked open. By that time, they had made it over the park fence and into an alley that let them slip past the police cars blocking the road. His chest hurt, his feet where killing him but everytime he started to slow down Lin would yank him further forward.
Randel was sure that soon he won't be able to run anymore and he worried about what Lin might do if he couldn't go on. He didn't wanna be left alone, she was the first person that he met outside the lab and he didn't wanna lose her. He silently wished to stop running as his heart beat hard against his chest. Someone must of heard his mental wish because as soon as they exited the alley and into the street a van pulled in front of them and the side door opened up.
"Come on!" yelled a man in khakis and a sleeveless shirt, he hurridly waved them into the van and when they were each in a seat, he slammed the door and it took off.
"Who are you people?" Randel asked, catching his breath as the fire in his chest started to die down.
"We're friends of your father" Came the reply from the driver- an elderly woman with gray-ing hair.
"Dad?" Randel said, leaning back in his chair.
Lin was exhausted, both mentally and physically. She was still somewhat getting use to the fact that something like Randel existed and now she's running from some unknown companies attack dogs. She buckled herself up as Randel asked who their rescuers were. She heard Randel mention something about his dad but didn't pay attention to it.
She was just starting to think about how big of a mess she has gotten herself into when Randel started to thrash around in his seat, clutching his chest and screaming through clenched teeth.
"What's going on!?" Lin shouted, as the man jumped from his seat opposite Randel and tried to hold him to his seat to prevent him from hurting himself.
"he's having an episode!" Shouted the driver "Get a syringe from out of his backpack!" Lin didn't know what they were talking about but did as she was told. Randel had thrown the backpack behind his seat and when Lin reached out to get it one of his paws hit her cheek, scratching it with one of his claws. She ignored the dull pain and unzipped the backpack.
Inside where seven syringes each contained a liquid but there was no plunger on the end. She grabbed one, sitting back in her seat next to Randel,
"There's no plunger!" She told the driver.
"It's automatic, just stick it in his arm!" The driver screamed back, swerving the van to miss a kid on a bike. Quickly, Lin did as she was told and when the needle was in Randels arm she heard the syringe make a loud click and watched the liquid empty from the syringe.
Almost instantly Randel seemed to calm down, after awhile the man let go of Randel and Lin could see that Randel had fallen asleep. She rubbed at the scratch on her cheek with her hand and looked, no blood.
"You okay?" the man sat down in the seat opposite to her, he pointed to her cheek.
"yeah, I'm alright, thanks.... is that gonna happen often?" She nodded towards the sleeping cub.
"Honestly, I don't know, I read that Subj- that Randel has something wrong with his cells that cause him to have a... sort of like a heart attack. I read it occurs randomly. His next attack could be tomorrow, could be next week. Could even be a year it just depends" The man ran his left hand through his short black hair. "I'm Tyler by the way" he nodded towards the driver, "That's Becca, she was friends with Dr. Redcliff- Randel's dad - for awhile"
Lin nodded, leaning back in her chair,
"How did you find us?" this time Becca spoke,
"The same way the company found you but will have to deal with that when we get you two back to the safe house... It's gonna be awhile, you might wanna get some rest" Lin nodded and got comfortable in her chair, she didn't get much sleep when she was with Randel and she needed some shut eye.
