A new partner
Detective Reno sat at his desk looking at the note that was
sent to him. It was like the others, designed to scare him by
letting him know he was going to be killed if he continued his
investigation.
"RENO!" The otter cringed as the bellowing sound of the
Captain's voice filled the room. His eyes shifted about only to
see his fellow detectives glancing his way. The old wooden chair
squeaked as it slowly spun around, and creaked as he rose. The
otter looked up towards the Captain's office to see the rather
large grizzly bear standing in the doorway.
Reno chuckled to himself as he remembered a scene from an
old movie he had just watched. He thought, 'In every enforcer
movie, the Captain always stands in the door of his office as he
calls over an older detective. Then he introduces him to his new
partner.' But since Reno didn't see any other furs in the
Captain's office he felt pretty safe.
When he was about fifteen feet away from the steps that lead
to the Captain's office, Reno felt a bit playful. He put his arms
out to his sides and in a jokingly, yet defensive tone he spoke
up.
"It wasn't me Captain, honest. I was out of town visiting my
sick Grandmother. Whatever that perp' said was a lie. I swear I
shot him less then six times in the leg, and it wasn't my fault
that the other prisoner tried to run away and fell down right in
the path of that truck that was backing up." The Bears eyes
narrowed and a low growl escaped his clenched teeth. "I swear I
did nothing wrong, and how did you find out about it?"
The burly bear growled, "In my office, sit down and shut
up." The bear then moved back behind his desk and picked up a
plastic bag. He held it out and said. "Here Reno, another love
letter for you."
"So we've gone to just opening up all my mail, have we?"
Reno replied as he reached over and took the bag.
"Calm down. Security picked up traces of an explosive, so
your letter was pulled out of the system. Whoever sent you this
one has also been handling some powerful explosives. And now that
you have received your fourth death threat, you get to have some
company for the next few days."
Reno protested, "Oh no way Cap! I don't need a safety
officer shadowing me."
"You know the rules, and you also know I may have
reconsidered assigning you someone, but that letter proved to me
that some fur out there might just be serious enough to carry out
his threat against you. So you get a shadow, end of subject."
The bear waved his hand and from the adjoining room entered
a younger, well-dressed otter. He walked over and rubbed palms
with the Captain, he then extended his hand out toward Reno and
began to introduce himself.
"Good morning Detective Reno. My name is Eric Murphy. I'll
be observing you for a bit. We'll work on reducing your risk for
attack."
Reno leaned forward towards the large bear. "Captain, if I'm
in such danger, why should we expose this young pup to it as
well?"
The Captain looked at Murphy and began to nod his head; he
then looked at Reno, smiled and shook his head. "No sale Reno..
Get used to having him around," The bear replied. "You're a risk
to yourself, and Special Operations Officer Murphy will be with
you like bees on honey."
Reno stood up and placed his hands on the Captain's desk.
"Sir, I have underwear older then he is! Just how is this young
pup going to teach me how to be safe?"
The bear leaned forward and smiled. 'I guess he'll tell you
that as you take him with you. Now the both of you get out of my
office and get to work." Just as Reno was about to walk out, the
grizzly spoke up again. "Oh and Reno, don't be so cheap about
getting new underwear."
Reno turned around and headed out mumbling to himself, "This
is a bad movie."
At his desk he picked up a couple of disks and his laptop.
He then glared at Eric for a second before heading out of the
squad room, with the younger otter right on his tail.
Eric spent the next three hours watching Reno follow up on
some leads involving a case he was working on, all the while just
remaining quiet and taking notes.
Eric was starting to get hungry, but didn't want to disturb
Reno as he worked. He just figured the older otter would pull
over for food at some point, so he'd just tough it out. It was at
that point that his stomach growled.
"If you're that hungry, why didn't you say something?" Reno
asked.
Embarrassed Eric spoke softly, "I didn't want you to change
the way you do things. I need you to act as if I am not even
here."
"But you are here. Now where do you want to eat?"
"Where ever you like. I am just here to observe."
Even with Eric's reinsurance, it was making Reno a bit
nervous as he ate his lunch. He had never eaten a meal before
with anyone who did not try and carry on a conversation. And he
kept wondering just what Eric was writing down in his logbook.
Hoping to find out, and to learn a bit about Eric, Reno
said, "Look pup, I appreciate the fact that you have been keeping
to yourself all this time, but I know that not talking must be
tearing you up inside. So when I'm not busy, you can talk to me
if you like."
Eric put down the taco he was munching on, then meticulously
cleaned his hands before opening his notebook. As he wrote, he
mumbled. "Interesting, craves audio support. An obvious cry for
companionship." He then closed his notebook and looked up.
"Detective, I am here merely to observe. I only need to ask
questions of you when I need some further information about your
habits. If I was going to be your partner, then I think it would
be more appropriate that we get to know each other. But I'm not
your partner."
Reno quickly put down his burrito and without the
pleasantries of cleaning up he growled. "Damn straight! No fur
could replace---" Cutting himself off, Reno realized his reaction
was a bit aggressive, so he changed his tone of voice. "Ah.. I
mean, I don't need a partner."
Eric quickly discovered that touching on the idea of Reno
getting a new partner was a bad one. "Sorry.. I didn't mean
anything by mentioning the word partner. I know you had a partner
once, and I know that you two were a force to be reckoned with."
Eric's enthusiasm could be heard in his voice. "Between you
and Detective Cain, you two hold the record for bringing down
more bad furs then any other team. You may not know that several
of your cases are used in the Enforcer training course."
"So what does that mean? Henry and I are like some kind of
folklore at the academy?" Reno asked.
Eric sat up straighter and leaned forward just a bit, and
with a smile on his face he said, "More like hero's." He then
realized his enthusiasm had gotten the better of him, so he
slowly lowered his head and went back to eating.
At the end of the day, Reno updated his files and logged
out. He was about thirty feet from his transport when he stopped
walking.
Then without turning around he calmly said, "Just where do
you think you're going pup?"
Eric paused for a second, then nervously answered. "Uh.. I'm
kinda still on duty."
Reno gave out a sigh as he slowly turned around to look at
the younger otter. "You have to be kidding. You don't think I'm
taking you home with me?"
"Sorry Sir, but I have to make a complete report and that
includes any dangers at your home as well."
"Look Officer Murphy. It isn't going to happen. Shadowing me
at work is one thing, but my private life stays private. You can
just put that comment in your report."
Reno got in his transport and proceeded to drive out of the
parking lot. As he did he looked into his rearview mirror and
watched as the image of Eric, still standing in the middle of the
drive, became smaller and smaller.
That night Reno's dream was a bit more unsettling then
usual. It was about his ex-partner, the same dream that haunted
him almost every night. It started out the same. He found himself
kicking open the door on the old warehouse, trying to get outside
to stop his friend from starting the cruiser. He managed to get
closer to his partner than in any other dream. The difference was
when his partner turned to look at him; Reno saw Eric's face,
just before the cruiser exploded.
A gasp of air was the only sound that filled his room, as
Reno sat up in bed, his fur damp with sweat, his heart pounding
so hard in his chest he could hear the blood flow as it coursed
through his veins. He laid back down and tried, unsuccessfully,
to stop the tears that filled his eyes.
After a minute, he rolled over and turned on a small light.
He opened the drawer on the nightstand and removed two pictures.
He looked closely at the first one, which was a head and shoulder
shot of his deceased partner. He ran a finger across the glass
outlining his friend's face. He then set the photo down on the
pillow next to him. The next one was a shot of the two of them on
vacation, and a very rare shot of them holding each other in
public. He laid that photo down on his chest and drifted off to
sleep.
The next thing he knew his phone was ringing off the hook.
Still slightly dazed, all he managed to do was grunt as he held
the receiver to his head. A second later his eyes widened.
"There's a body on my doorstep?.. Ah, no.. If I need any
backup I'll call it in.. Thank you."
Reno grabbed his robe and gun. Once in the living room he
peeked out through the curtains, and sure enough he saw part of a
body curled up by the door. He pulled the door open, and a still
sleepy and surprised, Eric came falling into the house.
"Just what in the hell are you doing?" Reno asked in a stiff
tone.
Shivering, Eric's jaw shook and he stuttered a bit as he
tried to speak. "I told you.. I'm st... still on duty.. I.. I
needed to check out the safety conditions of you.. your home."
Reno helped the half-frozen otter into his house. He sat him
down on a kitchen chair. He then grabbed a blanket and wrapped it
around Eric's shoulders.
"I don't drink coffee, so the best I can offer you is some
warm milk."
The younger otter whispered, "You wouldn't happen to have
some chocolate I could add to the milk?"
Reno hid his smile as he pulled out some chocolate mix and
set it down next to Eric. As the milk warmed, Reno noticed Eric
was still shivering. He walked around and started rubbing his
shoulders through the blanket trying to help warm him up.
Reno's thoughts drifted off to a time when he and Henry were
vacationing up in the mountains and Henry almost froze himself,
trying to stay out in the snow longer then him. When reality
returned, Reno let go of Eric and he went to get his glass of
milk.
He sat down at the table and asked. "So, what did you find
out about my place?"
Still with a slight shiver Eric spoke up. "There are two
windows that you need to cover better, and it gets very cold
around here at night."
After shaking his head, Reno got up and made a phone call
into work. "Yeah, hello Captain. Ah, Officer Murphy and I will be
in a bit late.. He has to make a security check of my place. He
already did his nighttime check, now he has to look around in the
daytime." Reno paused for a moment and pulled the phone away from
his head as the Captain yelled out a few things. "Hold on there
Captain.. It was your decision to assign me a safety officer. Now
if you don't want him to do his job, then I suggest you send him
back, and explain to him that you don't like the way he does his
job."
All Eric heard after that was a loud growl from the phone,
and the sound of the receiver being slammed down.
Reno smiled and calmly said, "The Captain said it's OK to
come in a bit late, and for you to continue your work." Reno saw
the disapproving look on Eric's face. "What now!"
"That's not what he said, and you lied to him. That is not a
good thing to do."
"What? You prefer I had told tell him the truth. That you
came all the way over to my place just to tell me to fix my
drapes on two windows, and then you camped out on my front porch
and almost froze your tail off. Is that what you wanted me to
say?"
Eric looked down at his almost empty glass of chocolate.
"Well when you say it that way."
"No duh!" Reno chuckled.
Eric started to laugh, and Reno joined him. It was just then
that the older otter realized that this was the first time in
almost two years that he enjoyed sharing a laugh.
"Come on numb nuts, lets get going before the Captain puts
both of our tails in a sling."
Eric stood and gave his body a little shake. "Well actually
they have warmed up some. So they're not really numb any longer."
Reno slowly turned around and straight faced he said, "I
really wasn't commenting on any of your body parts."
Eric's ears warmed up from embarrassment as he realized he
had made that statement out loud.
Once at the station, Eric headed for the locker room and
Reno headed for his desk. After a couple of minutes, Reno made
his way down to the archives. Just as he was ready to sit down,
he gave out a moan as he realized he had left his laptop in the
squad room. He turned around and headed back to retrieve it.
To avoid seeing the same old things as he made his way back,
Reno took a different route walking through the locker room. He
heard the shower running, and as he passed by he glanced over.
His eyes widened as he spotted Eric cleaning up. The water that
was cascading down his body gave him a slick shiny look, and his
fur laid so flat, every detail of his slim, but muscular form
could be seen. Reno gave out a soft sigh and continued on his
way.
Once he grabbed his laptop, he looked at the two main doors
in the room. One led to the hallway, while the other would put
him back into the locker room.
It took him only a few seconds to figure out the right thing
to do. Once back in the locker room he started walking towards
the showers, but this time there was no sound of running water.
He turned and made his way to the center of the lockers. As he
walked down the middle aisle he spotted a towel being pulled up.
When he reached the section of the lockers where the towel
was he found Eric wrapping it around his waist. Eric quickly
looked up, and once he saw Reno he gave out a small sigh of
relief as he smiled.
"Oh, it's only you." Eric sighed.
"Thanks, you really know how to make a fur feel special."
"Sorry, it's just that in High School and College I used to
get picked on a lot, so locker rooms don't hold any pleasant
memories for me." Eric confessed.
Not knowing just how to respond, Reno decided to change the
subject. "Well I am heading for the records room. Once you're
dressed you can come join me."
Eric smiled and nodded his head. Just as Reno started to
walk away, Eric pulled the edge of the towel releasing it. He
raised it to dry his face and as he did Reno's eyes shifted down,
catching a glimpse of Eric's crotch.
Moments later, Eric pulled up a chair and sat down next to
Reno. He watched, as the older otter would pause every now and
then to take notes after looking over some old reports and crime
scene photos. As Reno kept entering information into his laptop,
it looked as if he were drawing a map. Each bit of information
kept leading to another and they all seemed to be coming to back
to an unknown source.
As he worked Reno would, every now and then whisper, "Now
lets see where this takes us."
Eric noticed that Reno seemed very apathetic as he collected
his information, that is until a photo of what looked like pieces
of old rusted metal piled up, came up on the screen. Eric watched
as Reno shifted his body, and clenched his hands. Reno then
slapped the power button on the monitor, shutting it off.
Reno growled, "Let's go." as he stood and walked out.
When Reno sat down at his desk Eric spoke up. "While you
finish working here, I'm going to go give my report to the
Captain. I'll be back in a few minutes."
Reno replied, not really paying much attention to the
younger otter. "What? Oh yeah. Hey it was nice pup. Good luck in
your career."
"Okay, so how much trouble is he in?" The Captain asked as
soon as Eric walked into his office.
"Well it will take a bit to re-train him." Eric looked back
over his shoulder towards Reno. "Didn't you tell him I was going
to be with him for the next month?"
The large bear leaned back in his chair, hooking his hands
behind his head. He then chuckled. "If I would have told him
that, you wouldn't have even spent one day with him. And if
you're smart you won't tell him either. Just take it one day at a
time until he gets used to you."
"Just one last question Captain. How long did the
headquarters psychologist talk to Reno about the death of his
partner?"
The pleasurable look on the bear's face turned quickly. He
leaned forward and looked Eric right in the eyes. "For your
safety don't even bring up his last partner. And just so you
know, the psychologist who talked to him asked for a transfer
after they finished talking. So all you need to know is the
subject of Detective Cain is off limits. Now give this to him.
You two have a burglary job to cover."
When the two arrived at the burglary location, Reno started
chuckling. Eric said nothing as he walked into the small
pawnshop, though he was dying to know why Reno thought this
situation was so funny.
Reno waved Eric over. "Officer Murphy, you see that poor
Raccoon standing behind the counter? His name is Rocky. Rocky
here, believe it or not is one of the biggest crooks in the
city."
In a gruff tone the Raccoon snapped back. "Allegedly,
Officer Ream-mo."
"Yeah right.. Anyway, Rocky here runs twelve pawnshops,
which allegedly, receive more stolen goods then any place else."
Reno looked Rocky square in the eyes, "So Rocky, how does it feel
to be on the receiving end of it this time?"
"Up yours Reno.. Now why don't you just do your job, which
by the way my tax credits pay for." The Raccoon then started
chuckling, "How ironic, because of that it seems that right now
you work for me."
Reno spent the next hour collecting information and samples
from the crime sense. Eric carefully watched and even assisted
Reno when he needed that third paw. Eric enjoyed watching Reno
work, and he witnessed procedures that made more since to him now
that he had actually observed them in a real life situation.
Outside, Reno started taking pictures of everything around
the back of the shop. Once he finished, he took a closer look at
the door frame. He took some pictures of what seemed to be just a
few scrapings on the edge of the jam.
"Well, well, well, look at what we have here pup." Eric took
a closer look at what Reno was pointing at. "This is the symbol
of the Kith gang. The dummy that helped pulled off this job was
nice enough to sign in."
Eric asked, "How do you know this mark wasn't put here a
long time ago?"
"Look at the other scrapes and scratches on the frame. After
the wood has been exposed for some time, it darkens."
Reno pulled out a pocketknife and made a small cut on the
wood showing Eric that the color of the wood was the same.
Sounding as if the case was solved Eric said. "Well that
makes our job easy. All we have to do is go and get the fur who
left this mark."
"That would be nice, but he didn't do anything but watch out
for any enforcers. Lucky for us he was bored enough to scratch
out his sign."
"Not too smart of him." Eric chuckled.
"We're talking about gang members. The word smart to
describe them never comes up."
Reno spotted Rocky coming their way. He handed Eric the
camera and told him to take a few more pictures of the area.
Rocky handed a sheet of paper to Reno. "Here is a list of
all the things that were stolen from me. Now go and get my stuff
back."
Reno looked at the list, then back to the Raccoon. "I'm sure
the original owners of these items said the same thing." He
turned to Eric and said, "Come on, we have what we need. Let's
get out of here."
Reno had the pictures developed while the two of them
lunched. Reno then drove to a part of town that no fur in his or
her right mind would go on purpose. He pulled up in front of an
old run down bar. Though Eric was not too pleased, he stayed
right behind Reno as he walked into what seemed to be quite a
dangerous situation.
The two only made it half way to the back of the bar before
they were surrounded. Then each gang member pulled out some kind
of weapon and pointed it at them.
Quite calmly Reno spoke up. "By your response I know cheese
lover is here. Tell him I have something for him."
Eric moved in as close as he could to Reno. Then whispering
nervously he said, "Did you know we were going to be in trouble,
before or after we walked in here?"
"Trouble? What trouble? When I give you the word, you take
out all the furs on the right, and I'll keep the ones on the left
busy until you can come over and help me."
Just then an ominous laugh could be heard coming from behind
a few of the furs. Eric poked his head out from behind Reno and
watched as the furs in front stepped to the side leaving room for
a large rat to step forward.
"Reno, it's nice to see you haven't lost your sense of
humor, and speaking of humor, how's your partner?" Reno's eyes
narrowed as the rat chuckled for a few seconds. "Oh that's right.
He's dead, because you were too slow. Or maybe you purposely
stayed in that building a bit longer then you needed to." Eric
was close enough he could hear Reno give a little growl. The rat
turned his attention to the younger otter. "Now what do we have
here, another partner? Now wouldn't it be a shame to see him die
as well?"
To get the rat's mind off of Eric, Reno spoke up. "Listen up
cheddar breath," he snarled, "A couple of your boys are going to
drag you into a little gang war. Which is fine by me. I would
much rather see you clowns kill yourselves off." The rat looked
at him with a slightly confused look.
"A couple of Kith's members pulled off a heist in a CC
controlled hood, and to top it off, it was Rocky's place. So as
far as Rocky knows, you gave the OK."
"That's a load of crap piled higher then you Reno!" The rat
growled. "Rocky knows I would never give the okay to hit one of
his places."
Reno pulled out a couple of pictures of the burglary scene.
He pointed to the little marking on the door frame and he watched
in enjoyment as the rat's expression slowly changed. He then
handed him a copy of the missing items.
Reno smiled, turned around and started heading for the exit,
pushing Eric along. They were almost at the door when the rat
called out Reno's name. He glanced back towards the rat.
"One might get the impression you're trying to help. Now we
both know that you would never do something like that. So I just
have to know. What are you up too?"
Reno told Eric to wait for him outside, and it was only
after the angry look he received from the larger otter that Eric
carried out the request. But just to be safe he held the door
slightly ajar so Reno could make a quick exit.
Reno turned around and calmly said, "Look Rizzo, if you piss
Rocky off, you might end up dead, and I don't want him to have
the gratification of killing you. That bit of pleasure I want
reserved for myself." He then walked out and drove off.
It was half way back to the station before Eric could get
his thoughts together. "What in the hell was that all about!?! If
you keep pulling crap like that, there will be no way I could
ever keep you safe, let alone myself. So just how do you expect
me to write this up?"
"I don't." Reno replied.
Stunned at Reno's remark Eric said. "You don't! And why is
that?"
"Because if you do, they'll see that you are incapable of
doing your job. So how long do you think it will take them to
transfer you to traffic control, unless that is what you want?"
At the end of the shift, Reno headed for the parking garage,
again shadowed by Eric. About twenty feet from his transport
Reno, without turning asked, "Are you planning to sleep on my
porch again?"
"If I must." Eric's reply.
Reno gave out a sigh, "Get in."
When they arrived at Reno's house, there was a truck parked
in his driveway. "Don and Quinn Construction" was painted on the
side of it. A large Mountain Lion was just coming out of Reno's
house as they walked up.
The Lion smiled and said, "Hi Reno"
"Hello Quinn, so how's it going?"
"Great. The job's done, you'll find Don inside cleaning up."
Reno walked into his bedroom and sure enough found Don in
the Master bathroom cleaning off the sink.
"Looks good Don."
The Husky turned around and smiled. "Thanks."
Don stepped out of the way letting Reno get a good look
around. He nodded his head and softly said. "Henry would have
loved this."
Don walked up and asked. "Not that it's any of my business,
but why after all this time did you decide to fix the bathroom
the way Henry wanted it?"
As Reno ran his hand along the new counter top, he answered
the Husky. "I promised him that we would do this. And I always
keep my promises. The only thing was, he put the blueprints in
one of his files. And it was only recently as I was cleaning out
the last of his things that I came across them."
As Don was leaving, Eric stopped him. "I couldn't help but
overhear your conversation with Reno. Could you fill me in on
what's going on?"
Don looked back towards the Master bedroom. "If you need to
know, I think it's best if you asked Reno yourself. Just remember
you will be touching on a very delicate subject."
Later that evening, Reno watched in amazement as Eric ate
two slices of pizza before he had a chance to even finish one. He
then thought, 'So this is why the pup had me order the extra
large pizza.' The last slice in the box was Reno's, but he knew
he wouldn't be able to eat it. He watched as Eric's gaze shifted
from that last slice to him and back again. Just to play around
he slowly reached for it.
Then at the last second, he spun the box around and said.
"You can have it if you like. Otherwise it goes into the
disposal."
As Eric snatched it up he said, "Well it's not good to let
food go to waste."
After dinner, Reno turned on the monitor so Eric could watch
it as he went to go clean up in his new bathroom. When he came
out, he handed his houseguest a robe.
"Here, you can wear this. I'm sure it will be more
comfortable then that suit you have on. And if you want to clean
up, the bathroom is the second door on the right."
As Reno made himself a cup of hot chocolate, he heard the
monitor go off. When he walked out he put in a CD and started
listening to some classical music.
As he sat there listening, he could also hear the sound of
the shower in the background. He closed his eyes and smiled as he
found himself beginning to enjoy the sound of another fur in the
house. Just about the time Reno finished drinking his beverage,
he heard Eric's footsteps. Reno turned around and for a split
second his eyes grew, as Eric stood there in the robe, looking
like his old flame.
Once Eric sat down in one of the overstuffed chairs, Reno
glanced and watched as the young otter made himself comfortable.
Eric shifted his body once more and uncrossed his legs. When he
did, the robe opened and from Reno's spot on the floor, he had a
clear view of Eric's package. Though he tried to keep his eyes
wandering, he was unsuccessful and kept looking at him.
To avoid any embarrassment he reluctantly stood and headed
for the kitchen. As he passed him, Reno asked, "Would you care
for something to drink?"
"Whatever you're having is fine." Eric answered as he
wiggled in the chair, making himself a bit more comfortable.
After handing Eric a cup of chocolate, Reno took a seat and
tried to concentrate on the music. This worked for only about a
minute, he then found himself glancing at Eric's crotch once
again. The warmth of the drink, and his view, began to cause Reno
to warm up. He also felt his maleness starting to grow, so before
embarrassing himself, he decided to get up and take a seat on the
couch.
Eric put down his drink and leaned over to pick up his
notebook. This act wound up moving the robe covering him up. Reno
felt a bit relieved, but at the same time now missed his little
view.
Reno jokingly said, "You know pup, you sure do a lot of
writing. Maybe I can talk you into writing my reports."
Eric never picked up his head, but only shifted his eyes.
"You couldn't afford me. I may be easy, but I'm not cheap." He
chuckled. "And as for writing so much, well I like to account for
every minute of the day."
"So just what are you going to write about this afternoon?"
asked Reno.
Eric replied. "That even though you placed yourself in a
situation that may have caused you some physical harm, you took
all the appropriate precautions to reduce the risk to an
escapable amount."
"Now I know I want you to write my reports for me. You lie
better then I do." Reno chuckled. "Well pup it's late, I'm
heading for bed. The guest bedroom is the first door on the left.
Goodnight."
"Night Reno. I'm just going to finish this report, then I'll
head to bed."
It was one in the morning when Reno woke up and noticed a
bit of light filtering down the hall. He dragged himself out of
bed thinking. 'That must be one long report the pup's writing.'
When he peeked around the corner, he saw that the light was
coming from the table lamp next to the recliner, which contained
a now sleeping Eric.
Reno walked over with the intent of waking the young otter
up, but when he reached him, he froze. The chair was fully
reclined with Eric lying almost flat. The robe that he was
wearing was now completely open, revealing his slender form. His
right hand was resting high upon his thigh. His left arm was on
the armrest. As Reno walked around he saw Eric's report book on
the floor, as if it had fallen out of his hand.
As he picked up the book, he glanced over and noticed Eric
had some similar markings as his old flame Henry. Besides the
light brown fur which covered most of his body, and the cream
colored fur that accentuated his chest and hips, Eric also had
brown pubic fur, and a brown six inch strip which ran down the
center of his chest, just like Henry.
As Eric stirred, a glimmer of light reflected off his body.
Reno bent over and noticed a bit of his clean fur was matted down
and damp. A smile cut across his muzzle as he realized that Eric
had just finished pawing off, and as he relaxed in the after
glow, he had fallen asleep. Reno wondered what the young otter
was thinking of as he pleasured himself.
Reno's attention then shifted to the book he was holding. He
opened it and sure enough the first twelve pages were an
accounting of the events that had occurred. He then found the
pages after that point empty, thinking, 'That's odd, the pup's
been writing in this thing almost nonstop, and this is all he
has. There has to be more.' So he thumbed through the rest of the
book. He found the last ten pages were nothing but drawings, but
what surprised him most was the fact that they were drawings of
him.
He was impressed at how much detail there was in each
drawing. The first drawing was of when the three of them were in
the Captain's office, the rest of the drawings dealt with their
first couple of days together. Him at his desk, him driving,
lunch, the burglary, and their meeting with the rat. The next
drawing was unfinished, but Reno knew it was one that showed Don
and Quinn working on the house.
He began to feel quite honored being the subject of the
pup's talent, that was until he reached the last couple of pages.
Then he felt a bit embarrassed, as he looked at a couple of
drawings of him completely naked. He was surprised at how much
detail there was in the drawing, even to the point that Eric had
guessed quite well how he looked undressed, especially dealing
with the most private details of his body. Just before closing
the book, he spotted a partial drawing on the last page. It was
one of him lying in bed with an erection. He saw the size of his
erect maleness in the drawing and smiled as he thought, 'I wish.'
Eric started to stir again so Reno set the book back down
and made his way back to his bedroom. As he laid down, the image
of Eric lying naked in the chair and the fact that he just
finished pawing off kept playing over in his mind. He soon found
his right hand stroking his own member. It seemed to only take a
minute before his muscles began to tighten, and his toes to curl.
Normally he would have slowed down his rhythm but tonight was
different. His feelings had already peaked, thanks to his
thoughts about Eric, so now all he wanted was some release for
his body.
When he felt every nerve in his body tingling he gave into
one of life's basic urges, and his otter seed shot out in a
volcanic eruption, sending the white liquid high up onto his
stomach. Load after load of his seed came forth with each pull of
his hand. When his body finally settled down, after being rocked
by his orgasm, he was surprised at just how wonderful he felt and
how strong his climax was. He knew the last time he had that
strong of a reaction was back when his partner was still with
him. He smiled as he felt a warm bliss settle over him, and he
drifted off to sleep.
The next day Reno was sent to investigate a report of a
found body. When he arrived, he talked to the enforcer who was
first on the scene. Eric kept glancing over to the bright yellow
tarp that covered the body. His mouth kept going dry as his pulse
raced. Though he had seen a dead fur before, it was in the
coroner's office and the body had been cleaned up for viewing.
Eric watched as Reno walked over to the body. He stopped
short, and began walking around it obviously looking for clues.
With each pass Reno moved in a bit closer. Eric wished that he
would just finish his investigation, because he felt as if his
breakfast was getting ready to make a brief appearance again.
When Reno finally reached the body, he gestured Eric to come
join him. Eric was careful not to knock over any of the little
markers that Reno had placed around, marking possible clues. He
watched as the older otter pulled the tarp off, exposing the dead
fur. Eric had to swallow hard to keep his food down, as he turned
his head away for a second.
Reno handed Eric the camera and told him to get some
pictures. Then Eric heard Reno say, "Lets roll him over and see
who our guest is."
Once the body was rolled over, Eric stood up and turned
away, knowing that if he looked down now, his breakfast would
come right up.
"Come on pup, I need you to hold his hand."
The thought of what Reno just said made him cringe, but he
knew this was part of the job. He just didn't know exactly which
part.
Sucking in a breath of air he turned around and squatted
down next to the body. Even wearing his latex gloves he still
didn't care much for touching the dead fur. He tried to take his
mind off the body by asking Reno a question.
"Do you have any idea who would have done this to him?"
"Do what?"
Still trying to avoid looking down, Eric swallowed hard and
said. "Who would shave his chest and stomach and cut him up like
that?"
"You should know. Just look at the rest of the clues."
'Oh great!' Eric thought, 'Now I have to look down.'
Eric kept swallowing trying to control his stomach's urge to
empty itself. Then nervously he said, "Clues? There's clues? You
want me to find clues?"
"Would you feel better if I had you secure the perimeter and
have that enforcer come over and help me?"
Eric felt like saying yes, but he didn't want to disappoint
Reno. "No, I.. I can do this."
"Fine, then I'll get you started by giving you your first
clue. You're holding it."
Eric took a closer look at the furs hand. "Oh my God. His
fingertips are missing. Some sick fur cutoff his fingertips." He
looked up at Reno, who nodded his head. Reno then held up his
hand and slowly lowered one finger.
Eric looked back at the body. The sick feeling he had inside
started to subside a bit, as curiosity began to take over. He
looked a bit closer at the fur's face. He then gently lifted one
of the fur's eyelids. His stomach churned and his muscles
tightened, feeling like he had just been punched in the stomach.
With a sour look on his face Eric said, "His eyes are
missing."
He looked at Reno who lowered another finger. He then knew
that Reno was counting down the clues he had already found. As
Eric stared at Reno's remaining three fingers, he prayed he would
find the remaining clues quickly.
He again looked at the body. This time he turned the head
slightly and noticed a thick black string right at the edge of
the fur's mouth. He carefully opened the mouth and found what
looked like a wiring harness. He went to pull it out but Reno
reached over and took his hand.
"Let the coroner do that. We'll need to know if it was put
in there before or after he died."
Eric went back to examining the body. He scanned the fur
from his head down to his feet. He then gave out a sigh, not
seeing anything else out of place. He then thought, 'At least
from this angle.' So he stood up and moved to the other side.
As he did, he noticed something about the cuts on the fur's
chest. He pointed down and said, "Hey those cuts spell out
something."
Reno smiled and said, "One last clue pup, what is it?"
Eric smacked the side of his head, when he realized what
he thought was just part of the brutality inflicted on the fur
was actually a brand.
"He has a brand.. And it looks like the same marking left on
the door from.." Eric's eyes widened. "Oh my.. I'll bet he was
one of the furs that broke into Rocky's place, and this was done
to him in revenge."
"Very close pup, but if you can read what has been carved on
this slob, that will give you your final answer."
Eric shifted his head from side to side as he slowly spoke.
"I.. we.. no wait, that's will.. not.. thin for my.." Eric
stopped talking and looked a bit closer. "I will not think for
myself." Eric paused for a second, "Now what is that suppose to
mean?" He looked at Reno and his eyes grew. "The rat. This is the
fur that robbed Rocky's place, and the rat had him killed because
he doesn't want any trouble with the Raccoon. So this is some
kind of peace offering."
Reno nodded his head as he said, "Very good pup, you just
might make a real enforcer yet. Now lets get going, it's lunch
time and I am starving."
Eric looked down and thought, 'Lunch.. I don't think I'll
ever eat again.'
That evening in the parking lot, Reno looked at Eric. "Let
me guess. You are still on duty, right?" Eric nodded his head.
Reno gave out a sigh and pointed to his transport. Eric wasted no
time in climbing in "Okay pup, where do you live?" Eric gave Reno
a surprised look. "Don't worry. We have to get you some new
clothes. You wear that suit again and the other officers are
going to start talking about you."
Eric chuckled then gave him directions to where he was
living.
As they approached the house, Eric whispered, "We have to be
quiet. I don't like to disturb the fur that lives upstairs."
The two entered through the side door, which took them right
into the basement. As Eric hastefully packed some clothes into a
nylon bag, Reno looked around the small room admiring the
sketches that lined the walls.
"These are really good." Reno remarked, "You have a lot of
talent, so why didn't you become an art teacher or something?"
"Two things, maybe if I was talented as my art teacher Mr.
Wookie, cause if you think I'm good, you should see his work. His
drawings are so detailed they look like photographs. And two, I
have always wanted to be an enforcer. Drawing for me is more of a
hobby."
Reno cocked his head slightly. "You better hurry up pup, or
you'll have to introduce me to your mother."
Eric was shocked that Reno knew that this was his mom's
house, and no sooner did Reno finish his sentence, than they
heard the upstairs door open and a female voice call out. "Eric
baby is that you?"
Eric cringed as Reno looked at him and smiled. Knowing he
could not hide the fact that he was there, he spoke up. "Yes
ma'am, I'm just picking up some clothes."
The sound of foot steps making their way down the stairs,
instantly gave Eric a sick feeling in his stomach. He knew as
soon as his mother saw Reno, she would start to share all of the
most embarrassing moments of his life. He quickly crammed the
rest of his clothes into his overnight bag, hoping to make a
quick exit.
"Oh you have company," The older female otter said as she
walked over to Reno. "Hello there, I'm Connie, Eric's mother."
Reno extended his hand to rub palms as he said, "A pleasure
to meet you Mrs. Murphy."
Eric stepped over. "Mom this is Detective Reno. Him and I
are..."
"Partners for the next few days." Reno speaking up covering
Eric's reluctance to tell his mother the real reason they were
together. "Eric's helping me with some confidential matters
concerning a case I'm working on."
"Oh my, nothing dangerous I hope."
"Mom!!" Eric replied in a plaintiff tone.
She turned around and looked at him. "So are you and your
little friend going to stay for dinner?"
Eric panicked for a moment, not knowing just what to say. "I
don't know.. Detective Reno has a lot of work and like he said,
he needs me to help him. Right Detective Reno?"
Reno glanced at Eric's mother. "Your son is right, we do
have a large case load." Eric gave out a sigh of relief. Then
Reno looked at Eric. "But we do have to eat sometime." Turning
back around he finished by saying. "So if it isn't an imposition,
we would love to stay for dinner." Eric's mother and Reno looked
towards Eric after hearing a depressed moan and the sound of his
luggage hitting the floor.
During dinner, Eric felt as if he were shrinking right there
in his chair, as his mother regaled Reno with the most
embarrassing moments of his young life. After dinner, Reno even
took some time to glance over some photo albums that Eric's mom
brought out. Eric was embarrassed yet again, as it seemed these
albums only contained pictures of the most awkward moments of his
life.
Eric gave out a sigh of relief as the evening finally came
to an end. He then discreetly kissed his mom on the cheek and
headed for Reno's transport. The two were almost to Reno's house
before Reno spoke up. "Are you going to say anything?" Eric's
only response was to shift his body and to look out the passenger
window. "I'll take that as a no. So you can now just sit there
and listen to me. Number one rule. Use whatever means at your
disposal to learn whatever you can about every fur that you may
want or might need help from. Example, I know things about two
small time dealers, and because they know that I know, they are
willing to give me good information on other bad furs. So tonight
you might just say I did the same thing. It's just you I got the
info on."
In a tone that could have lowered the temperature in the
transport, Eric gruffly said, "You had no right to do that.
Personal stuff like that should only be shared with ones
partner."
"So if we were partners, you wouldn't care?" Reno asked.
"Well you heard some things tonight that I would not even
share with my partner. And let's not forget, you knew I wanted to
leave, and you just took advantage of the situation."
Though they rarely argued, Eric sounded just like Henry,
Reno's old partner. The tone of Eric's voice brought back
memories of Henry and those thoughts gave Reno an uneasy feeling.
Once at Reno's place, he moved Eric into the spare bedroom.
As the young otter unpacked, Reno headed for his bedroom. He
picked up a silver picture frame and gazed at the photo it held.
It was a picture of him and Henry working on a transport. Though
it was not much to look at, it was the fastest street-legal ride
at the track. He then opened up the frame revealing a hidden
picture of the two of them standing by the pool. It was a shot of
Reno with his arm around Henry's waist as he leaned in giving him
a kiss on the cheek.
