Lives Intertwined
I started wrote this short story to cheer a friend up, but I suspect it might evolve into a mini-series. Less sexual themes here than in my other series, but I still put it up with an Adult tag.
Enjoy.
Lives Intertwined
"I really don't understand why you dragged me here." I shouted to Mike. My Husky eyes darted around the night club. People. People here, people there, some more over there. Smells of sweat and other fluids which I don't wish to describe. Loud thudding music, lights that would give epileptic seizures to whoever wandered in by accident. No white lights - even the bar was illuminated by a flat-screen TV that shined with animated flames. Lasers.
Who the hell came up with the idea of lasers shining around a room full of people?
"I can't sit by and watch you waste the day away in that study of yours! I mean, even Samantha said you look lonely!"
Mike, a befriended wolf fur, had always been looking out for me. Since the day we moved into the same dorm room. Asked if I wanted a hot drink while he was making one for himself, asked if I wanted something to eat. One night I was walking back home from an Aviation class, and this group of hoodlums stopped me right outside the dorm. They didn't want any money, just to beat me up.
And then Mike appeared, baring his dangerous Lupine teeth at them. The group of cat furs scattered.
Samantha was his girlfriend - an Otter fur studying to be a Veterinarian. Very beautiful and as friendly as it gets without physical contact. Dark hair, perfect cups. Green eyes.
It makes me ashamed to say so, but more than once did I imagine her late at night while relieving stress.
"I'm not lonely! You're there to talk to!" I retorted. Mike weaved through a crowd of fur dancers, pulling me along.
"I mean someone of the opposite sex!"
A girlfriend. How did I fall for the idea that he was taking me to a Sundae bar? I tried not to get mad at him, seeing as he was only doing this for my benefit.
"Don't you think it'd be easier to look in a more peaceful place!?"
"Yeah, that's right here!"
We came to a white door, which Mike opened without hesitation. Once he pulled me inside, it clicked shut, stopping any noise from getting through. Didn't stop my sensitive ears from ringing, though.
"Look, I appreciate your concern, but I don't need a girlfriend."
Mike turned to me, his intelligent eyes shining. "And you say that after jerking off to the image of Sam?"
My mouth dropped open.
"Oh, yeah. You don't hide a hard-on very well. And she knows how you've been looking at her; jealousy. Keep in mind that women know when you've got the hots for them."
"Mike, I'm sorry-"
His strong paws grabbed me by the shoulders and shoved me through a door he'd opened. I stumbled, tripped over my own two feet and went sprawling on the ground.
"Whoa, you alright, eh?"
A moose fur offered his hand. I took it, taking the express route of getting back to my feet.
"Anything broken, eh?"
"Just my pride." I muttered, dusting myself off. A look around the medium sized room revealed a refreshment area in one corner, several couches and chairs in another and bare-looking turquoise walls.
"I'm Joshua, eh. Friends call me Josh." Josh offered his hand again, this time in a different circumstance. I shook it for the sake of courtesy.
I think I should mention that I'm not a very social fur. I hate social gatherings, night clubs, bars and any place which houses a lot of other people. I'm not claustrophobic, I just prefer to be alone. I've never really liked being touched by strangers (In the way of rubbing shoulders and having to squeeze past others in narrow hallways), since I find it to be an unpleasant experience. Which is a problem, because a lot of girls I know by name just love petting my fur.
"James. Friends call me Ven."
Somewhere in the room, a girl gasped. "The Husky's mine!"
Joshua chuckled and backed off the give the girl room. Before I could make an exit, a blonde teen approached. I had about a head of height on her, but then again I'm not very short. I noticed the high-heels she had on, along with the leather jacket. The 80s came to mind. What got my attention and stopped me from leaving immediately were her eyes - deep emerald green, a little twinkle shining in them.
"Hi." She said, looking at me very intently.
"Uh... Hey..." I swallowed, unsure of what to do.
"You look a little sick. Come and sit down, I'll get you a glass of water."
I accepted the offer, soon finding myself on a red couch with a glass in my paw and a teenager next to me, emerald eyes staring.
"So..." I coughed. "You have a thing for Huskies?"
"Oh yeah. I love everything about them - their fur, their eyes, their personality."
"Aha." I chuckled nervously.
"Don't worry, I won't bite!" She giggled.
"Uhm... I'm James. You can call me Ven if you like."
I noticed she was holding back on something, but decided to ignore it.
"I'm Abigail. It's really nice to meet you."
"Uh, you too."
"You are adorable!" Abby couldn't control herself and threw her arms around me. Predictably, I stiffened up, but slowly relaxed. Physical contact wasn't that bad, I found. Could even get used to it. "So cute."
"Nobody's ever told me that."
"Really? You're this cute and nobody ever mentioned it?"
"I don't socialise much. Too shy, I guess."
"And that makes you cute! Such a handsome Husky, but so shy."
I would have blushed if my fur didn't block my cheeks.
"Uh... Thank you. Nobody's ever told me that either."
"Has anyone ever done this?" She leaned over and kissed my cheek. My eyes widened with surprise. First kiss from a pretty girl. And to think I wanted to get mad at Mike for tricking me.
I put down my glass and picked Abby up, placing her down in my lap to make hugging her easier. She squealed with delight, hugging back tight enough to push the air out of my lungs.
"You. Are. Irresistible!" She told me. "I want to take you home and keep you forever!"
"I won't object." I wheezed. A good move and a mistake. It made her even happier, but made her hug me even more. "Could I... Breathe... Please?"
Abby let go, blushing. "I'm so sorry. I didn't realise I was strangling you."
"It's fine... All in good fun, right?" I braced myself to be smothered. "And here's something for you." And kissed her on the cheek.
Another big hug, and, I suspect, the start of a new friendship.
