A night to remember pt1
#1 of A night to remember
Note: Genevieve is shortened to Jeni as a nickname.
Yes, more RP. I find I use up all my good story ideas in this format now, and it is helped along by the talented Cerine.
Once more in the Flexible Survival world.
"Come on Aaron, we need to find somewhere to sleep, this place is way too freaky at night." Genevieve said to her friend, pointing to the houses nearby, "One of these should be good, pick one and lets board up a room to spend the night in."
"Ngh, alright that second one on the left looks okay, I've got those trace elements we were looking for too" he says, grunting a bit as he moves some debris out of the way, or more into the way of any would-be pursuers.
Tilting her head a bit to her friend, Jeni nods and lifts her shotgun, making her way to the front door. Trying the door handle, finding it unlocked, she grins and opens the door, taking a cautious step in, "You take right, I take left. I don't want one of those freaks waking up and finding us sleeping in here.
"On it" he says, stepping in cautiously and bringing his pistol to bear while reaching for a flash light on his belt to take a look in the first room he finds. "What are the odds the bedroom's out of bounds?" he jokes as he goes on ahead.
"Ugh, Aaron, I told you, keep it in your pants and we live through this. Have you seen what happens to things around here that have sex lately?" the girl replies, shaking her head a little, but with a smile on her face. Truth be told, she was finding a lot about the guy she likes, of late. Funny how the end of the world can bring out the good side of anyone. "Okay, clear on this floor." she calls, eyeing the stairs, "How you doing? Ready to go upstairs?"
"Hey I didn't mean it like that! I meant the odds are if there's anything living here it's using the room already" he chuckles, torch in one hand and gun in the other as he makes his way to the stairs. "We look to be clear down here so I'm good to head on up"
"You got it? I can check the kitchen for any food if you want?" Jeni replies, a wider grin now on her face, happy to have caught him in a double entendre.
"That'd be great, I'm not sure what I've got left for supplies" he calls down from the upper floor, holding his gun ready as he opens the first door to find... a linen closet.
Leaving the little torch on her shotgun lit, Jeni looks around the kitchen. The place doesn't look to have been disturbed since the nanites got free. Leveling a knowing look at the fridge she murmurs, "Nothing in there, will all be rotten by now." and makes her way to the cupboards. Opening the a few reveals cookware until, at last, "Jackpot." she says with a grin, reaching out one gloved hand to hold up a can of instant spaghetti, "Got a ton of spag and beans cans!" she calls, wondering out Aaron is getting on upstairs.
"Unless bedsheets are dangerous I think we're clear!" he calls back giving the bedrooms a sweep and looking quite satisfied with it before going in to start checking through the wardrobes and drawers just in case, but so far there's no real signs of anything here.
Setting her pack down on a chair, Jeni pulls a small 'camp' stove out of it, setting the little burner on the tiled floor before opening the first can, beans, and setting that on top of it to heat, "Got some grub on, if you are all clear get your arse down here and we can eat." she calls to Aaron.
His stomach getting the better of him, he's quickly back downstairs and checking the windows and front door to make sure they're somewhat barricaded. "Never thought I'd miss tinned beans"
"Ails what cures you." Jeni replies, wrapping the first tin in a towel and handing it to Aaron with a spoon pilfered from a draw, "Why do we need to carry around all these damn vials of stuff anyway? You think they will be useful?" she asks, each of their packs quite full of the well packed scientific glass.
"Thanks Jeni" he says, nodding gratefully as he takes the tin and spoon, blowing on it before taking a bite. "They said the vials were supposed to be helpful with some kind of research anyway, Something about understanding it and possibly being able to reverse it. To be honest I was still trying to wrap my mind around half of this stuff"
Taking her own tin, instant spaghetti, Jeni nods, "Yeah, I don't understand it at all. Some of them said it was a virus, some said it was tiny machines?" she ponders, taking a spoon full of the 'wonderful meal.' "Mmmfffm, I think they just wanted to see how long we would carry a few gallons of colored water." she replies, around her mouthful, "This is good stuff..." she adds, noting that the tins aren't 'cheap' brands.
"Better than I thought it'd be at least. And if this is all some kind of crazy exercise i've got no intention of losing it" he chuckles, patting his backpack. "That said it still sounds like some kind of crazy sci-fi horror book come to life"
"But we wont make the first mistake." Jeni replies, grinning, "'Never split up!' always keep together, I can't believe how corny those things are. It's always the loner who wanders off alone that gets picked off, then the people split up..." she adds, wolfing down the food. One thing the end of the world teaches you, eat when you can.
Aaron looks pretty content with his tin of beans, occasionally taking a swig from his canteen of water as well. "Well it all seems corny but these things are supposed to hunt in packs, so if you're by yourself and you get jumped it's bad news. Anyway the upstairs bedrooms looked pretty safe to me, there's a pair of single beds in what looks like it was the spare room and I can drag a mattress from that in and use the frame to try and barricade the door so we'll be fine for the night"
"Windows?" Jeni asks, using her spoon to scrape all the left over juice out of the tin, "Remember last time? Waking up to see something crouching over me was not fun." she replies, it was lucky at the time that she spoons her shotgun, if she had have needed to reach for it, well, she would be another feral bat by now.
"That's what the other mattress was for, I know it's not much but I think we can make do with what's up there. Besides I don't intend on making the same mistake twice" he says, having finished his tin and looking around for another before deciding to stash that into his backpack.
"We can load up on those in the morning." Jeni comments, seeing Aaron pilfer a can, "Lets go secure that room and try and get some sleep. Any idea what happened here? Any trace of mutants?" she asks, packing back up the little stove after tossing the still burning heating brick in the kitchen sink.
"No signs of anything this place seems completely deserted, but that's a good thing in this case" he says as he picks the backpack up and starts to head upstairs.
"Yeah, hey, if it stays that way, maybe we could spend a day here, check out some other buildings around, see if anyone else is surviving out here." Jeni replies, packing her gear up, the shotgun never more than half a foot from her hand at all times, "Hell, there could be whole families of people still alive... still normal, living in their basements." she adds, walking along behind Aaron, pack over one shoulder, making her way for the stairs.
"Yeah, I think it'd be a good idea to check these places out tomorrow, I don't want to risk being out at night, not after that time I nearly tripped over that sleeping gryphon while on patrol, I had to run like mad before it woke up properly" he chuckles, remembering the incident and some of the joking that came of it.
"Aww, the way I remember it, you were too busy gawking at it's breasts and I had to drag your sorry arse out of there." Jeni banters back, stepping past Aaron into the the room, giving him a playful swat on the rear to show she doesn't mean anything nasty by the jibe, "I get the comfortable bed." she says, matter of factly, putting her pack down and slinging the shotgun around to her back as she moves to help Aaron with the mattresses.
"Well... I ran after you started dragging me... and I saw what was between its legs" he chuckles, holstering his pistol and clipping the torch to his belt before starting to move things around the room. "We could lock the windows and draw the curtains and hope they don't think anyone's here but I'd rather get something in front of the windows just in case" he grunts, trying to move form a crude barricade while forgetting they'll need to dismantle some of the stuff to get out later on.
"Yeah, some more warning would be enough. Put something heavy and loud in front of it. Hey, that old television over there, that will smash and make all sorts of noise when it falls." the girl adds, pondering some way to barricade the door well, giving up and just heaving a dresser over in front of it.
Aaron lifts the old TV up, grunting a bit as he manages to lift it up into place. "Gah, I swear these things get heavier when you're not looking, anyway the small mattress is mine I don't want to roll into your shotgun"
"Aww, you could make a girl sad with talk like that." Jeni replies, having done her task while Aaron was lifting the old set, turning, her shotgun held between her legs, "Oh, Aaron, I am a sexy gryphon..." she says in a bad 'man pretending to be a woman' accent.
That nets Jeni a pillow sailing from across the room as Aaron sees to his bedding. "Oh ha ha ha, damnit you know how hard I had to try to stop the guys from calling me 'feather-duster'?"
She laughs and tries to dodge the pillow, failing and taking it in the shoulder, "Aww, no problems, but don't go looking at those big boys too much, you hear, you know what males typically do to other males around here." she says, half serious as she rummages around in the closet, pulling out some blankets and making her way to one of the beds.
"It's more like what everything does to everything else anyway" he chuckles, setting down his pack and going back to working on his bedding, but not before taking 'his' pillow back, though the cover on it looks like he nabbed it from one of the kid's rooms as he gets a blanket for himself.
"Well, we should be able to hear anything that tries to break into this room. Only us in here, and our guns. Settle down, lets get some rest." Jeni replies, disdaining a pillow, settling for one arm under her head, the other wrapped around the shotgun held against her chest and belly, curled up under a blanket.
"Yeah, you're right, let's just try and get some sleep" he says, kicking off his boots and setting his pistol within easy reach as he curls up beneath his blanket, on his side facing the windows just in case.
Reasonably secure in her sleep, Genevieve slides into a deep rest. Her dreams flowing from happier times, ending up a little unsettling as she watches all her friends get turned into things. Her mind pushes out at it, throwing that dream aside in favor of something better. Aaron. She hadn't really had much to do with him, before all this happened, but now... well, someone reliable was much more appealing these days than someone cute. All too soon she imagines him, her, alone and naked, she runs her tongue down his chest, down his belly and looks at his glowing green cock with lust. Wait, glowing green?
Green definitely doesn't seem right, but then again what dreams are? Green cock or not he reaches out to hold her, his own tongue returning the gesture as it circles around a breast, leaving a glistening trail.
Aaron's own mind is taking odd... what the hell, no, he is a guy, he is very much thinking of Jeni and what he and she would get up to. Just as the dream is getting good, though, Jeni leans around behind him, nibbling at his shoulder before pressing her shaft into his rear, not feeling bad, just... different.
